Loyal member at the Derry location for four years. Had a second kid and decided I’d build a home gym. On the day my monthly membership renewed I went in to cancel, explaining the situation. They told me that not only would I be charged for this month but also the next month. $90 is obviously an irrelevant amount of money but more so the principal. Ripping a long time customer off who’s given you thousands over the years. So unnecessarily slimy lol.

Went in there had a good workout then the next day I had one person with a tripod set up and it sucks because you don’t wanna be in the video The girl was nice but didn’t really move it for the life of me. There’s not one person in the world that wants to work out and be on someone’s camera so I’ll just have to go back to planet fitness it’s too bad but you say something nowadays you get vilified I wish they would’ve done something because it’s getting out of hand. No one wants to be on someone else’s video while they’re working out I speak for the majority. EVERYONES A WANNABE INFLUENCER

The gym is filthy. Even the treadmills where you put your waters is full of dirt and what not: the employees seem to just banter behind the counter… at the price $$$ and outdated machinery, the new updated planet fitnesses deem a better option.

Good Morning, I am a long time member of this Club going back to the early 2000’s and through 2 owners prior to the owner now. The only reason I still attend is because of the convenience to home and the people that attend during the same times as me. The vibe is amazing in spite of the way members are treated. They underpay good managers/help causing them to leave. Similar to other staff to include the full time maintenance guy who really cares. The workers rarely get the freedom to fix things at their level and a couple employees really care and keep this place up and running. If this place was any worse from a hygiene perspective I would not go and am close to leaving now. Additionally, I recently had a billing issue with my current insurance and a tech issue with the app for the Zoo that has been going on off and on for 2 years. I was told to use the app by a previous manager and it did not work causing billing issues for the gym on their end. I was paying 2 memberships 1 for me and 1 for a family member. Since the gym could not figure out the issue with my scanner I started using the other family card to go in knowing I was paying for both. One day I left a note for a call back on an issue with the vending machines, that keeps taking money and goes unfixed, the call back was not what I expected. First off, the manager called my family member and not me first to clarify and threatening legal action for misuse and contract breakage……. They then called me and accused me of the same. I had to go in to the facility after speaking to the manager and my insurance to clear up an issue on their end. When I walked in to discuss I felt like I was still the problem. In order to rectify the situation I had to take time off work, come in at lunch and call and speak with the insurance, who confirmed it was the gym’s issue (at least partially). The response by the gym was nothing. No, we apologize for accusing of things and generally treating you like dirt for some reason even though you are paying for 2 memberships and are a large part of an overall community in this facility. I am a veteran, community member and I do not expect to be treated like this in a local community business. I really hope the guy starts caring about his customers and hiring and paying better people to make decisions. The equipment, just like any gym gets wear and tear. Items such as speed bags and other equipment keep coming up missing and or broken and is reported only to sit unanswered. A part of this issue is on the members, stop being scumbags and stealing our own stuff and treating equipment like a carnival toy they won. The scanner at the front door is breaking all the time. This now negates the 24 hour aspect of the gym and it goes out the window, side note, it is frustrating Sunday morning at 5 AM when you can’t get in to a known issue that seemingly also can’t get rectified. Start respecting people and running it like a people business instead of like a gym where you collect money and treat people like less than what they should be to you. If not sell it and bring your style of business to another community. My name is on here feel free to look up my member ship and give me a shout.

I lost rigidity and gained my life back! For almost two years I have utilized the Redwood services from the zoo gym in Derry to bring me back to life after having my second child. Frank P, one of the amazing trainers, helped transformed me from an immobile depressed individual to a strong and confident one! 40 Ibs down just by working out, and counting. 10/10 recommend! I purchase a week pass at this location each year I visit family in NH. Never again. I’m appalled by the treatment I received during my visit. I specifically chose this location because it was advertised online as having a kids club. I arrived with my 7-year-old daughter, only to be told—without apology that the kids club wasn’t open. When I suggested she could quietly sit on the couch and play on my phone, I was dismissed with, “It’s a liability.”
The woman I spoke with, a red-haired staff member, was shockingly rude and condescending throughout the entire interaction. There was no effort to be understanding, helpful, or even civil. It’s unacceptable to treat guests—especially parents with children—this way.
If you’re going to deny services you advertise, the very least you can do is show some respect and empathy. This experience was not only frustrating but downright insulting. I would give zero stars if that were an option. Do better.
If you care at all about customer service please address your level of service and don’t just cop out buy saying that is your kids club hours (which aren’t posted online). Life isn’t black and white. People can and do go out of their way to help people. Your club clearly doesn’t believe in being courteous and going out of your way to help out.

Poor cleaning. They don’t clean the showers or wash the mirrors in the bathroom. Toilets stay clean for the most part but should also be cleaned daily. Whether it’s dirty or not. I’m impressed and thankful for the child care and the friendly staff at the desk. The equipment could be cleaned better too. Lots of dust under equipment something that should be a monthly deep clean. I’ve mentioned spots to the front desk many times and nothing has changed int the 2 years I’ve been going.
I will change my review if I notice a difference in daily cleanliness.

Wish I could give 0 stars for this gym. My husband went in to inquire about a short term membership, as we would be moving out of the area. The kid who helped him “gave him the best membership for the situation” aka conned him into signing up for a year membership. Word of advice-read over every contract given, as we will be moving forward. When he attempted to contact the manager to help rectify the issue she said she would speak to the associate and call him back-never did. Poor customer service and will never return.

I’ve been a member of the zoo for close to 10 years. The derry location is one of my least favorite locations of the zoo. The equipment is not well kept. I attended the gym today and there was 3 broken treadmills and every time I come at least one has been broken. You can also tell the lifting equipment is older and is not maintained well. I have been disappointed in this location over the last couple of years.

If you’re looking for a great place to work out, then the zoo is the place! Very friendly staff and the personal trainers are great, especially Frank. I have a complicated health history that has limited me and Frank designed a plan for me that works! I’m actually excited to go work out for the first time in my life!

I appreciate how he provides full body work out, showing me how to use different aspects of the gym while helping me achieve my goals. He is thoughtful, personable and funny. Updated: I've been training with Frank P several months now and he's great! He's created programs for me to follow on my own time, but each session he challenges me with new/different exercises, which helps keep things fresh. If you're looking to switch-up your routine, definitely go see Frank!

I would like to give a shout out to Michelle McKenna.
I just returned to her body pump class yesterday for the first time in a while because of an arm injury. It was sooo nice to be back! Michelle is one of the sweetest people I've ever met ! 🥰
I had also sustained foot injuries outside of the gym quite a while ago and Michelle is always so kind and caring with recommending different options for certain things I am unable to do.
I've always loved her classes and I am sooo glad to be back.
I love her energy and how she encourages and motivates people.

I’ve been on a weight loss journey and joining the zoo was my first time being at a gym that isn’t planet fitness. This is a great place for those who are even just starting. Trainers here are awesome, in particular Frank who has been working with me from day one. He has been fantastic about listening to what I need in regards to my needs and job and also listening to my concerns. I’m very worried about hurting myself accidentally and he puts a big focus on form and doing things the right way rather than just cranking an exercise out to get it done. Highly recommend both the Zoo and Frank!

Great place the stars are for the young lady that signed me up originally she was great no pressure just gave me the benefits.
The lack of stats are for there rude trainers whom called me on two occasions. The first guy called and was rude about me not wanting to take advantage of the free hour training. Just seemed so pissed about it.
The next young man was just way to pushy and couldn’t let me off the phone telling me he was only there for a month and he was a top 10 trainer from Mass . I told him I would sit and talk about it? he said “ he was busy” but he would texts me but that never came either.
This isn’t the way to run your training team.
And, I was and am recovering from heart surgery so listening to him talk about how great he was exhausting.

I've been coming here for years, but recently had a personal training consultation with Redwood personal training. I trained with Sam, who really knows his stuff and takes a client centered approach. He is incredibly kind, and listened to me whine about my concerns and goals before designing two perfect workouts to fit my needs and fitness level. Each exercise felt tailored to what I need in order to correct the imbalances/postural needs of my body.

I have been going to the zoo for about a month now and got a free training session with Sam. It was a great workout. He was a great trainer and really made sure I took my time and did my form proper and he coached very well. He took time to critique my form which significantly helped. He just took the time and truly cared. I recommend Sam if you want someone who is going to tell you what you need and show you how to do it properly so you can get the most results in the least amount of time.

I never would think a year ago I could participate in the Thunder Run. But on September 7th, 2024 I finished the thunder run doing 95% of the obstacles and walking at a brisk pace in 1 hour and 45 minutes. Why is this complication so important for me and my family?
I’ve had back to back pregnancies from fall 2021-late summer 2023. A lot of weight gain, mobility issues and mental health struggles. On top of this I already had Lyme disease, Hashimoto disease and weak patellas. By the time I had my 2nd child, the stairs felt impossible to me, lifting my kids felt like a chore and even having the energy to play was a struggle.
So in November of 2023 I signed up for a gym membership at the zoo health club along with redwood for training. My trainer, Frank Paolini, worked with my ailments and helped me strengthen them. We focused on mobility and strength training using a combination of new and old methods. The zoo gym has really friendly people who all aspire to be their best selves with many different equipment to choose from. Their Kids zone is also a plus watching my kids and keeping them entertained while I work on myself.
In 10 months I didn’t have to work out with a knee brace anymore, lost 40 Ibs, eating better, able to do everyday tasks with ease, went down two clothing sizes(in the new picture my pants are too big), mentally better and plus some. I can carry both my kids up and down the stairs no problem (total 55Ibs).
A big thanks to my trainer working with me weekly, keeping me in line, seeing me during my bad days and pushing me to be my best self! Onto the next challenge

Worst club ever got yelled at for cleaning . Machines broken take for ever to fix it . Use to clean all the time got yelled at . They expect you to do there cleaning . And they don't payed you . You pay them . 40 bucks a month no pool what hell . If I were you would stay clear . Changed rating from 5 to one . Original member been there since they opened 16 years . Guess nothing last for ever. Think they need management. You think this bad . Read yelp other web sites . Mine is mild . 19.99 gym all day . You pay more than that . They are Laughing all the way to the bank .Why doesn't this place belong to the better business bureau. Think about it.

My daughter regretted signing a contract with this gym within mere days. She was stood up by trainers there on at least 3 different occasions and due to friends of hers who decided after she signed up that they didn’t want to get involved in a contract, (they were gonna join together), but ultimately decided to join another gym where they didn’t have to sign one. Anyway, I have been going back and forth with the manager, Amanda, trying to get out of this contract. Her higher up, Julian, is in FL., she says, preoccupied with other things. She was supposed to get back to me a week ago. When I called her today, she acted like she had totally forgotten about it. So she went through emails and saw that Julian never got back to her. Why would he? We are stuck in a contract and he’s getting our $42 every single month and sometimes more than that because of their maintenance fee and we’ve been charged $35 also this month in bank fees because we were charged a fee I wasn’t anticipating and thought there was fraud on my account so I cancelled the card and that backfired on me. I tried explaining that to her, and telling her that I had been told by another employee that we should not have been charged those fees ~ that the gym usually absorbs them. She said there was nothing they could do. Again. This has been my experience with that “health club”. If anything, they have been bad for our “health”, giving us headaches and hypertension since that contract was signed. I realize a contract is a contract, but I also know that the trainers who work inside the gym stood her up on at least three occasions. So we have been paying for all of these gym fees plus the $35.00 they won’t reimburse us, since October 19 of last year. All the while she’s been trying to get out of it since well before Halloween. SIGNER BEWARE: The management/owners of this gym are heartless and if I were you, would NEVER EVER sign a contract with them. I will say that Amanda says she understands my frustration, which I appreciate. Katrina was wonderful to talk with and was very compassionate and empathetic. I will give credit where it is due.

This is the first time I’ve ever ventured outside of my house to find a gym instead of our home gym and I can confidently say I’m so grateful I did. I needed to switch up my routine and wanted to grow more in a gym with more equipment. Not only is the child care incredible but everyone is so kind and pleasant when you show up. I'm giving 5 stars for the Derry Manager, Amanda! Not only does she exude a friendly, professional personality but when she tells you she's going to do something and get back to you...she does! Had a billing issue after I canceled my membership 7 months ago and was still being billed. I really need to keep a closer eye on my checking account!!! However, Amanda handled the situation like a pro and I'm very thankful for her. The Zoo is lucky to have her because customer service is rarely good but great customer service is even more rare. Thank you Amanda, you're definitely the best manager I've dealt with and I appreciate all you did in this situation!!!

I’m local to the area but active military and have used this gym 4 times now when I am back on leave. Every single time I’ve come here for about month-long periods over 4-5 years this place never disappoints me. There is plenty of equipment, it’s a 24 hour gym, and I’ve rarely ever noticed broken equipment, and if so, it’s not more than 1-2 days. I’m usually here in the 10pm-2am range so there’s barely anyone at the gym either. I would recommend this gym to anyone that’s just starting out and regulars. Dumbbells go up to 150 and there’s plenty of plates to go around.
Most importantly, I want to point out that the gentleman that comes around midnight to clean the place does an impeccable job - the place is spotless.

Terrible... Signed up for a “free week” promotion deal. I told them I’d like to cancel before the week was done. They said I was all set, but continued to charge me $30 for the months I did not go. So I called and asked, can you please cancel my membership once again, they said yes sorry about that… But they continued to charge me again $30 each month for 6 months until I had to take matters into my own hands and cancel my credit card on them so that they could no longer charge me… Definitely scamming many people. After this I asked to get refund and printed proof of the phone call, but no refund was given, lol don’t sign up here guys.

SCAMMERS. My girlfriend signed up some months back and had a personal trainer but he left the zoo out of no where and they gave her another one who she didn’t enjoy so she canceled her membership like they told her she could at anytime. (also had the problem everyone else has with the zoo they never answered her calls she was basically ignored every single time she tried to contact anyone from the zoo) then months later out of no where she’s getting calls from a “dept collector” claiming she owes thousands to the zoo for not showing up and canceling? Just trying to get her to pay him almost any amount to cancel the dept.. Either they are trying to scam her or they are giving away information to scammers…

I signed up about 2-3 months ago, and immediately started training with Redwood. Coach Cory is very knowledgeable regarding all things fitness, and is very passionate about seeing training clients progress. I have trained with Morgan, she was great. Now I am training with Zarah, who has also been great to work with. Cory makes sure that my progress has been monitored, in just over 2 months I've lost 9 inches in my measurements!
The gym itself has lots of weight lifting equipment, and plenty of cardio machines. Unlike some gyms I've been to in the past the equipment seems to be well maintained and there aren't usually any out of order.
They also have a protein shake bar, and lots of other drinks and protein snacks.

I started the Zoo membership and redwood personal training in March it was good for maybe a month until I stopped hearing from my trainer and was unable to book sessions. I reached out to the manager to find out my trainer quit and was going to be with a new trainer 2 weeks later. My second trainer only wanted me to book one session a week even though I pay for 2 sessions a week. After only 2 sessions with him he stopped responding and I was unable to book. I reached out to the manager coach Corey and he told me he’s been meaning to call me(this is after 2 weeks again) to tell me that the other trainer quit. They put me with another trainer I booked my sessions with him showed up and he was with someone else and told me he forgot to book the sessions and was unable to train me that day. After that I tried to cancel but coach Corey asked me to give the trainer another chance. I went on and had 2 weeks with the new trainer until again he stopped responding and I was unable to book any sessions this month. After my 7th time reaching out I contacted the VP Marc to cancel. He told me to cancel I would have to give a 30 days notice and pay a cancellation fee. The total would be around 1000 for me to quit when the only reason I am canceling is because I have been unable to book sessions. I did not receive anything I was promised. The fact I was ignored and had to wait 2 weeks to find out my trainers quit I find ridiculous. When I first signed up I recommended them to my family and clients. 3 of them who signed up also had similar Issues and are told they are stuck in a contract and there’s nothing that can be done

I've been a member of the Zoo for about 4 years now and I have loved every moment. I've gone through multiple transformations just through the equipment they offer. The other day I finally decided that I wanted to take the next step. I wanted to see how far I could go. I only have limited knowledge and understanding around weight lifting and running. I struggled to put muscle mass on while maintaining consistent cardio. So to have effective cross training to succeed and perform as a hybrid athlete I met with Coach Cory who is a manager for Redwood Personal Training. Our intro session was absolutely fantastic and redwood definitely has the resources and knowledge to understand the sciences behind fitness and performance. Naturally I figured why not try something new and I signed the contract. Looking forward to seeing where this all goes.

I think it’s safe to say I’ve found my home gym and trainer. I have been coming to the zoo for a little over a month now and decided to try out some personal training with Redwood. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to train with Marc. WOW. After the workout he took me through… HOLY MUSCLE BURN! But, at the same time, I didn’t want it to end! Since you have deleted my boyfriends post. Here it is folks. There was a special going on at the zoo gym in Epping NH. Me and my boyfriend signed up since it was no money down, no contract, month to month. Well the young gentleman at the counter said ok your all set, we give him our license after repeatedly saying this is month to month, no contract.. correct. Yes he said. He turned the computer around for us to sign, Well little did we know after not going in, we decided to cancel, and now have creditors saying that we owe $447.00 we were in complete shock. After contacting the zoo multiple times and them saying sorry you signed an agreement. We told them we didn’t not and explained the situation and still are demanding the money. Is this how you run a business? You try to steal peoples money. Never will i ever step foot in that place or any other zoo gyms. Horrible way to do business and i will be telling others to stay away and report you to better business bureau. Train your staff correctly so this wont happen ever again to others.

I used to be a member at the local planet fitness, but when I began to progress I instantly became the target of the manager as she repeatedly set off the link alarm on me. After speaking with the management at the zoo and experiencing it first hand with the free pass they gave me I instantly felt at home. So much more to the gym as far as equipment and classes, not to mention the solid people who are helpful in giving tools and lifting advice! Best switch I’ve made

I've been coming to the ZOO (mainly in Derry, concord a few times as well) for about 2 years now. Being open 24/7 is extremely convenient, and It has everything I need to get in a great workout in. The staff is always friendly & helpful. The facility is always clean, and organized. The environment is great as well, from Students-young professionals-seniors.

I was a member of the Zoo in Derry for over a few years and was a regular in their functional training class (it’s now called Blitz 45, but was XGT and then ZGT when I was going). Prior to joining this gym I would not at all have considered my gym-goer, I was very uncomfortable and didn’t really know what the hell I was doing, but once I joined their functional training I quickly realized that I WAS a gym-goer! Their facilities are very clean, and they have tons of equipment and several squat racks. Unfortunately my whole life routine was changed up due to the pandemic and I was forced to find a new gym routine that fit better with my new life, so I had to cancel my membership with the Zoo. I will say though, unfortunate canceling aside, it was a very pleasant cancelling experience and it was not at all weird. The Zoo really helped me to become comfortable in a gym setting and helped me discover the badass weight lifter within. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking to make some positive life changes!

I joined the zoo a year ago because I was specifically looking for Les Mills Body Pump classes. I visited the Zoo in Derry, and appreciated the friendly staff, and the wide array of fitness classes that are included in the cost of membership and also are offered at times when people with 9-5 jobs can attend (I've been to other gyms where classes are mostly during the day, which is a bummer).
I paid close attention to the equipment, too, and noticed that everything was in great condition, clean, and well maintained. In fact, I could describe the entire gym that way. The staff made it easy for me to sign up for classes and have even just rolled out a brand new app to make sign ups ever easier. They really do listen to their members and continuously work to improve.
The general manager, Ernesto, finds creative ways to communicate with members. He doesn't just rely on Facebook posts or emails, but instead will post live videos and also make a point to come to our fitness classes in person to make announcements. It's a great personal touch. I am writing this review today because I am moving out of the area and so have had to cancel my membership - and that's the only reason I'm cancelling. It pained me to reach out to Ernesto to let him know I needed to quit the gym, but even then, he couldn't have been more professional or helpful.
There are great extras, too, like a smoothie bar and extra workshops for nutrition, posture, and more. Oh, and if you have Anthem insurance, you can actually get your membership for close to free throughout their fitness reimbursement program (go to the gym X number of times (I think it's 35) every six months, fill out some paperwork, and boom - you get a reimbursement check for up to $200. So if you're worried you can't afford a gym membership, check with your insurance carrier.

If I could give a lower rating than one star, they would be getting it. Was told that my account would be frozen while away at school and I would not be charged. Come to find out, they have been charging me since March. None of the employees had any idea what I was talking about so now I’ve lost over $100 because they can’t get their act together. I have been a member with them for over 5 years now and have never caused any issues with payments, etc. They took money from me that I was not aware of and are not at all willing to work with me to figure out a solution. Do not trust these people.

I'm searching for a Gym and during my search I came across The Zoo Health Club...I wanted to get some more information and tried calling MULTIPLE times and have yet to get someone to answer the phone. Thought I'd take a look at the reviews and I came to find that reaching someone is always an issue. Haven't even signed up and getting in contact with someone is a problem? After reading how the staff isn't very friendly especially during cancellation, I've decided to look elsewhere.

The gym itself is awesome. All updated equipment and lots of cardio options. The only issue I had was with staff not answering phones or emails. I was disappointed that it took so long to get any response, as I had left several messages. However, I did finally receive a phone call back from Ernesto, who answered all my questions regarding my membership and contract and was very apologetic about me not getting any response sooner. My issues were fully resolved and I have changed my review from 2 to 4 stars based on this much appreciated correspondence.

Extremely unhappy.
I am a long time workout club member and thought about switching to Zoo. Did a 1 week trial but wasn’t even able to try out the gym. I was told when signing up for the 1 week trial that if I wanted to cancel, I had to do so before day 8. Okay, made sense. So I never got a chance to use my free trial and called on day 6 to cancel and make sure I wouldn’t be charged. Apparently that didn’t matter because they said I was still going to be charged. I just got charged AGAIN. Mind you I called to cancel ahead of time and even have email confirmation, which I had to ask for because I wanted it Incase this happened... which it did.
Also on a side note, no one ever answers he phone. I’m call during business hours and no one ever answers.

After moving I have repeatedly tried to cancel my account and have records of my calls. Several phone calls ended in the representative agreeing to cancel my account, however subsequent phone calls show no record of this in their notes. After several attempts and quite a few months I have had to cancel my card instead of trust the Zoo to actually cancel my account.

although, i didn't use the membership as much as i had thought i would. but when i did use it, i felt like everyone stared, with judging eyes; i wasn't very comfortable. when canceling my membership a year later, it was not a wonderful experience. i have never been thrown into the guilty bus like this in my life. i didn't exactly get the "we are sad to see you leave but hope to see you again in the future" kind of treatment. it was more like "no other gym offers what we offer at our price, do you have any idea what you are giving up? clearly not". he was very rude and cocky as can be. he also made me out to seem like an idiot, but the story is too long to explain here, ugh. and i was nothing but nice to him, i totally regret being the bigger person, sort of. anyways, the closure i experienced with them doesn't ever make me want to go back there again. oh, and they require a 1 month notice if your going to cancel. careful when signing up here, read the small print!

The owner is an incredibly sensitive piece of work. Needed to cancel my membership because my toddler broke her leg and the owner insisted I had to adhere to the contract that I signed and pay the $200 fee. He then offered me as a "courtesy" a 3mth freeze on my membership. I told him I could not commit right now due to the uncertainty of healing time for my kiddo and he told me other gym members had personal problems as well and still adhered to their contracts. After I said I'd go public with his insensitive remarks he went irate going on about how he was being threatened, blackmailed, and having words put in his mouth. I had originally intended on coming back to this gym after my kiddo's long road to recovery, but I will never give them my business again. Such a horrible person.

I like this gym for many reasons. If cardio is your thing, there's tons of equipment to suit your needs. If heavy weight are your thing, then enjoy the dumbells that go up to 150lb. There's always a good amount of people exercising here which is nice to keep you motivated but due to the huge size of the facility, you never feel cramped. Bang for the buck, there's no other place out there that compares to the Zoo.

I really DID enjoy this gym when I first started to go over a year ago. The staff was friendly and the gym was always clean. However, in the past months the faculty has become unprofessional and rude and the amenities offered (steam room, sauna, showers) are either dirty or broken most of the time. Professional development is a much needed tool for the productivity of this establishment. And management, you really shouldn't train your employees to talk to paying customers like idiots or completely ignore them because they would rather talk to their friends.

credit card fraud, they won't let you cancel, after their contract states only one year. After which they keep charging you. Then when you go to cancel to get a refund they tell you it takes 30 days and you will be charged again, after that period. this is an illegal act, when it accumulates to over 500$ worth of fraud it is then a federal crime.
