This gym is okay but its like Hotel California!!! You can never leave. What a hassle to cancel and then you get hit over the head for an extra month and dont forget the annual fee??? Spare me the cheesy response to this review from management. Zero reason to charge and extra month to cancel etc except a money grab! Pool is great but the gym is not for me. Limited equiptment etc. Unless you want to be a lifetime member head for the door!!!

The guy who answered the phone is grossly rude & unprofessional. The gym is ok but they make it extremely hard to cancel. My son went twice to cancel as he has a gym in his college & was basically made so uncomfortable he left without canceling. I called today as a heads up that he’s coming in as they make you go in person and will be cancelling as it’s my credit card & he isn’t authorized to user. They let high school students sign up and then make it impossible to cancel if they move out of state for college.

Left freehold athletic club for this place. Machines are older, but well maintained and solid. Ample cardio space, a sauna that actually works along with a steam room, showers, pools, and hot tubs.

Paying the same price I was at FAC and get 10x more amenities. Zero complaints so far.

I started coming to Cebtrastate at the suggestion of my hair dresser, back in January, as it was my New Year's resolution. I am so so happy and grateful for her recommendation!! It is truly THE BEST THING AIVE ever done for myself, (after I g retiring!!!) I love the classes, instructors, and the members! Everyone is so nice, helpful and enthusiastic! This review is more trainer-specific. My daughter was initially enrolled at another swim school in Monmouth County. She regressed significantly due to their lack of teaching ability and rotating door of instructors. She was reluctant to get in anyone’s pool for over a year and I didn’t know what to do. Luckily I was a member at Centrastate and they offer “family swim” once a weekend. My daughter begrudgingly agreed to tag along to one of these events. We then met Anna and my daughter immediately felt at ease with her. Anna has helped transform my girl’s confidence in the pool and she’s almost able to swim fully independent. I’m confident we’re only a few lessons away from calling her a swimmer. I am so thankful for Anna’s patience and teaching ability, I would 100% recommend her to others!

The pool area absolutely stinks in this Freehold location for parents bringing their kids for private/group lessons. There is no proper seating near the pool lanes. Parents have to sit on the window ledges if they want to watch their kids swim in the lanes. I bring my 11 year old daughter for private and a group lesson. One specific Manager named Linda is terrible- she walks in like she owns the place and makes parents move when her group class has to use one lane of the pool. There are only about 6 big window ledges in one corner of the pool lanes where an adult human body can fit. I have to sit in one of those ledges to watch my child. Linda, whenever she is there, makes it a point to not let me sit in any of ledges b/c her group class uses one lane….it is unreal!! There is absolutely no consideration for me being a customer who has paid for a private lessons and who has every right to see her daughter swim. Also, 6 big window ledges are just taken over by her b/c she is teaching a group in one lane. It also doesn’t help that there is always a subtle attitude- like I am here so move!!! She should not be allowed to even use any lanes near the only location where parents can sit. Customers/parents should be given higher priority and better treatment- some managerial staff is definitely ruining the customer base in this location. Terrible experiences!! Can’t wait to take my daughter out of this location- only staying for now b/c of her excellent swim instructor who I have known for many years from the time he taught my other kids swimming at another RWJ location.

The reason I joined vs the reason I left...
I went to this gym for over a year because I was new to the area and it was one of the only gyms in the area with childcare. It was a lot more pricier but thought the childcare perk was worth it. The childcare was super useful and the childcare staff was super kind and warm.

The gym area was fine. I'm a runner so I was happy there were always enough treadmills.

The reason I left was due to their lack of morals and inability to stick to their own rules/policies. As I stated above, I went to this gym over a year and 90% of the time I was accompanied with my friend - we went daily after work. Every time we went - we scanned our badges at the scanner and went into the fitness center without any issues. We also brought another friend of ours AND my boyfriend once or twice - they just had to fill out a waiver and provide their ID which was never an issue. However, the last time I brought my boyfriend as my guest - the front desk advised they needed a blood pressure from him to ensure he was healthy enough to workout at their facility and this policy had been in place for a while. We thought this was odd bc this protocol was never followed any of our prior visits and were now being told it "should have been done all along for guests". His BP was slightly higher than Centra State's threshold and he could not workout that day bc it was not medically safe. My issue is that Centra State never took any guests' BP in the past year, they don't even take members' BP upon check in (do they not care about our health and well being?), & if my boyfriend was a paying member - they wouldn't care and he'd get in no questions asked. If you have a policy, you should enforce it to all members and guests so your facility is safe for everyone going to workout. As of now, it's a pay to get in kind of deal going on. I ended my membership that day and never turned back. Our family and friends now go to the Freehold YMCA - they have an amazing childcare!!

RESPONSE TO CENTRA STATE REPLY: Thanks for the snarky reply. Your “protocol was not followed on multiple visits actually. Also, “Exercising with an uncontrolled elevated blood pressure greatly increases your risk of experiencing a cardiac event or a stroke.” Why do you not check members and guests at every visit then? Mine was checked a year ago when I signed up but it doesn’t matter what it is a year later? As a healthcare worker myself, I suggest you check all guests and members every 3-6 months to make sure all people using the facility are healthy and able.

I was interested in getting information regarding membership. While my husband was getting aqua therapy I went to the General Manager sitting in the office and asked for membership pricing. She rudely said what are you doing in here. Can you leave this area? This was very rude. I will never use this fitness center if this is how the General manager treats potential clients.

Your response indicated that you requested I sign in to get assistance, however, this did not occur. The person I interacted with was more concerned about how I was in the gym without membership even though I explained my husband was in aqua therapy . This was completely rude and determined my decision not to pursue joining your facility. There are too many other gyms in the area to give my dollars to a gym that shows me who they are.

HAPPY UPDATE: Thank you for fixing the sauna! 🤩💯

Anecdotal and arbitrary feedback from individuals put on the spot about whether they are "comfortable" and/or unfamiliar with the purpose of the sauna does not address the sauna being at an insufficient temperature to be effective medically--which is what I expect as a member of this facility.

Furthermore, CentraState Fitness may have missed the photos I posted from several different days in the sauna over the past few weeks.Coming to CentraState Fitness is a waste of my time and money because of the negligence toward keeping the women's sauna between 190-205.

The temperature should NEVER be below 190-195 per peer-reviewed medical research.

(Today, for example, the sauna is barely hot and below the minimum temperature at 10:30am on a Tuesday, 5 hours after open.)

The only reason I joined this gym is for the women's sauna--and it is CONSISTENTLY NOT in the medical range for a therapeutic temperature.

The unpredictable nature of the sauna temperature is infuriating for those of us that use the sauna for medical purposes and who travel to get to the gym only to find the sauna is not hot again.

Many of us have tried to talk to (several) levels of staff in the gym, maintenance, heels, and suits--with no action taken.

Fees continue to rise ($12/yr for the past 3 years) yet the cleanliness of the facility continues to deteriorate. The evening cleaning crew does not exist, so early morning users of the facility are greeted by filthy floors, bathrooms that have not been cleaned, empty antibacterial wipes, lockers that are never wiped down, a new anti-slip floor that, while safer, has all the crevices filled with dirt…and so on. We’ve only continued our membership because the trainers are excellent there’s a wide variety of equipment, and it is closest to our residence. The front desk staff is very nice and helpful. But if clean is what you’re looking for, look elsewhere.

Do not recommend. Gym membership price has skyrocketed over the years with no tangible benefit. Gym is less clean than it used to be and is very crowded at times. They make you jump through hurdles to try and cancel your membership (must be done in person or by certified letter and then they also require 30 days notice so they can squeeze another month out of you.)

I have been a member of your gym for the last 4 years a trainer Tony stands out as an amazing, well knowledgeable and caring trainer. Over this time I have been shown many points that have made my entire lifting program better and increased my weight max in all body parts. I had a pain that was slowing me down and Tony should me a simple trick that has made the pain disappear. I have also seen Tony working with others and seeing that he truthfully enjoys what he does.
Throughout my daily workouts I see all your other trainers enjoying what they do as well.
Your front desk workers are all so helpful and caring.

Was going there for 4 months. Me and my girlfriend. Beginning it was great. Trainers were great . Very good gym. My girlfriend loved it. Then toward the end i joined 2 different classes in the aqua pool for Cardio for my Heart. I am a Senior who had Heart Failure on one of the days Fran was the Instructor. There were 17 elderly women i was the only man in the class.. They shut down 2 of the laps for the class and one heavy set man was all upset and he started getting in the face of the eldely woman. I seen what was happening and i went over and confronted the guy. He then tried bullying me. Called me a retard. So i started cursing at him. I went over because nobody was helping the woman. Not Fran the Instructor. Not the Life Guards. And not the head trainer. I was told by Fran i should mind my own business. Then when i was leaving i was confronted by Gail the General Manager of the Gym. Again i was told to mind my own business. That i shouldnt have gotten involved. Thats what the staff was there for. But the staff did nothing. And i feel they dont care for the members safety. I then decided to quit. I havent been back. Very poor run gym by management. Trainers are very caring. But management and some of the members are entitled. Beware if you join. I have now joined Planet Fitness in Freehold. Better run Gym.

As a new member to Centrastate Fitness I find the club to be well equipped albeit a little pricier than most. The only beef I have is that I all of a sudden received an additional $40 charge to my account in addition to my membership fee that I was not aware of. I called the billing department and was told this fee is charged at your first 6 months and then annually after that for "cleaning and towels." Interesting that we would have to pay ADDITIONAL monies just to make sure the facility is clean. And btw, there NO TOWELS at the FREEHOLD location. So, should I get a discount for bringing my own?

I have been a member of the center for almost two years now. I originally signed up because of the daycare amenity, which many of the fitness centers in the area do not have. I could not be happier with the center as a whole, but most importantly the child care center. My children have been attending here regularly for the last two years and the staff has become like a family to us. Alison, the manager has a true passion for what she does and really cares for each child and their experience at the center. There is plenty for the children to do..arts and crafts, movies, games, theme days, many toys and educational items for all ages. The staff is absolutely wonderful and my children have taken to them so well. Alison, Nikki, Michelle, Gianna, Catherine, Laura, Christina—they are all truly wonderful people who really care for the children and love their jobs. It really shows through the atmosphere and attention they give to each and every child. I could not be happier. If you are looking for a great place to bring your child while you utilize the facility, you can put your trust in the childcare center 100%!

I’ve been bringing my daughter to the daycare since she was 9 months old (first born too so it wasn’t easy picking one) and usually stick with the morning time. Nikki, Diane, Michelle, Gianna and everyone else that works there are absolutely amazing! The care and love they have for the kids and their job is far and few to come by. I’ve moved recently and now my drive to the gym is about 40 minutes. Just from the amazing staff I’ve chosen to stay with this gym and drive. I feel so comfortable and safe with them watching over my daughter that I can really take the time to focus on working out. I’ve had zero issues since joining and my daughter will be turning 2 in May! I’m so happy that I was able to find such a reliable, safe and friendly daycare! I cannot say enough nice things about it!! I’d give 100 stars if I could :)

We’ve tried several workout places & studios in the Freehold/Manalapan area: Planet Fitness, Orange Theory Fitness, and others. This is by far the best one, hands down. There’s something here for everyone: classes, weight machines, cardio machines, personal training & swimming. However, the main reason for the 5-star review is the friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staff and the value for our money. The locker rooms are immaculate, the complimentary amenities are plentiful; the steam & sauna are the finishing touch after a great workout. Cannot say enough about this place. Shout out to Allie, the membership rep who signed us up: the consummate professional - informative & friendly, never pushy. And last, but not least: our thanks to Delilah: our fitness levels wouldn’t be where they are without your training & guidance.

I have to start my review with the daycare. The daycare is my number one draw to this gym and the caregivers are exceptional at caring for the kids. This isn’t a regular “babysit” situation they take the time to know your kids and you. They play games, read books, and make sooo many cute crafts! My kids love the caregivers and even ask to go see them daily! The hours are reasonable and can accommodate anyone’s schedule. The gym itself is extremely clean. You will easily see maintenance during your workout cleaning the bathrooms and the main gym floor. The equipment is up to date and any issues with equipment gets resolved swiftly. There are so many options for your workout and you can enjoy your time while also knowing your kids are being taken care of!!

Centre State is a unique atmosphere. Their gym location is right next to a rehab center, their pools/showers are always extremely clean. Plenty of equipment. First Time visiting here. Used the Pool. 75 Ft, 7 Ft Deep. Friendly Members and Staff. I have Medical Issues. And do mostly Snorkeling. They didn't have a problem with. Unlike the Hamilton RWJ. Reason for 4 Stars? Pool Area is really Tight. Lap Pool, Hot Tub, Therapy Pool in a Little space. Mens Locker Room could use Better Cleaning. Hair Dryers are Loaded with Lint. Potential Fire Hazard. This feels more like a spa than a gym. It’s peaceful and after my workout I love to sit in the steam room then finish off in the salt water hot tub. Yeah, it’s $74 a month but I pay the same for message envy and I get WAY more out of CentraState than I do for a message. If your serious about getting in shape, your mental health, or just need to unwind, this place is the one for you.

Great variety of equipment right up to hand cycles. However, I know of a disabled employee who was fired because you insisted she close at night, in conflict with bus schedule. Woulda been stranded! This is similar to the issue over which Walmart was successfully defeated in litigation over a 16 yr down syndrome employee. Consider yourselves lucky!

amenities are nice. the classes are good but the way they ran the billing during a pandemic is not right. I called to cancel my membership and they talked me into freezing my membership and they still charged me a month before freezing. then when the 3 months were over and I called to say I do not feel safe going as I have health concerns and need to cancel my memebership. they will not refund my membership fee for the month saying they have to have 1 month notice. I did not get one month notice when they unfroze my account and deemed it safe for me to return. The virus is still a concern to those with health issues and this is a facility at a hospital!

I had an excellent Physical Therapy experience, first in the Hydroworx pool and then on Land, Rehab. The Therapists and Assistants are incredible. In a short time, I was taught how to strengthen core muscles to alleviate lower back pain and to manage on a daily basis.

I'm sure the facility isn't that big. When I said I didn't have 30 minutes they wanted to make an appointment...to look at a gym? Had horrible experience today. My husband is a member of this gym. He brought me and our son 12 years old for family swimming. I was first time there , got guest pass. I am a member of NYSC. I was thinking to see how is going at this gym , may be it's gonna be more convenient to go there . Me and my son were already in the pool about 10 min, when they (staff) figure out that he come like 40 min yearly than it should be. Family time from 3-5 , but we came yearlier , pool wasn't busy at all. Was 2:20 pm . We just decided to swim. But the manager basically kicked us out. He told to lifeguard that we have to leave the pool and we can come back in 40 min. But we already swimming, it's not gonna make any difference for manager and for gym , BUT it's gonna make big difference for us , we have to take a shower , dry up .... And then come back . But manager was so demanded saying it's RULES in the gym. Something you better to think about patient/ customer satisfaction then about your RULES. So unprofessional kick out you customers from pool. Hospital/wellness center need to show the community that they are interested in quality care, and they need to find ways to improve in order to remain competitive. Patients/customers, and as customers, we have the right to choose where to go for our medical care /gym. Patients/customers are easier to serve if they feel their needs are being met. This results in happier staff and patients/customers. Unfortunately we didn't have not even good experience at this gym. So shame for this place for kicking out a kid from the pool!!!👎👎👎👎👎

Apparently to Centrastate Fitness & Wellness Center "selective membership" means an abundance of OLD, OVERWEIGHT, and RETARDED people.

There are days you cant even get near a machine because there are just too many mentally handicapped people there.

It's expensive and I would shy away from joining, unless you're old or have downs syndrome.
