Feels more like a fitness spa than a gym!

I came in on a three-day trial and was blown away by how great Crunch Fitness Hoboken is. The gym is spotless, the vibe is upbeat, and there are tons of machines for every body part, especially an amazing selection for leg workouts.

The bathrooms have a beautiful stone wall design that makes them feel like a spa, and the relax & recover area is the highlight. After the zero gravity massage chair, followed by the steam room and sauna, you honestly feel like you’re at a resort, not a gym.

They even provide towels, body soap, shampoo, and conditioner in the showers, which makes everything super convenient.

Huge thanks to Tom and Colin for taking such good care of me during my trial, their professionalism and friendliness really stand out. Crunch Hoboken truly delivers!

The men’s locker room has tons of unlocked lockers that have stuff in them that the staff never take out. So annoying finding lockers without stuff in them.

I want to give a special shoutout to Fran at the front desk at Crunch Hoboken. She’s such a great asset to your location — always kind, pleasant, and welcoming. Every time I walk in, she greets members with genuine enthusiasm and professionalism. It’s clear she takes pride in providing excellent customer service and creating a positive experience for everyone. Visited this gym on a work trip with a couple of my co-workers who were also crunch members. We were helped at the front desk by Brian. He was extremely kind and informative. I’ve worked as a Manager in multiple corporate gyms and I can honestly say this one was of the best customer service experiences that I have had in any gym. Will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town.

Extremely Disappointed with Customer Service (Update Review at the end)

I’m very disappointed with the lack of professionalism and poor customer service at Crunch Fitness Hoboken. I’ve been trying to resolve an issue involving my gym membership through a third-party provider (offered as a benefit through my employer), and my experience has been frustrating from start to finish.

Two months ago, I was told by the third-party provider that Crunch needed to finalize paperwork to reactivate my membership. I reached out to the club multiple times—via messages and emails—and it took 13 days to get a response from the gym manager. That’s completely unacceptable for a basic membership issue and reflects a lack of care for customer support.

This week, I reached out again to the same manager via email to confirm if my membership was reactivated before driving to the gym. After waiting two days with no response, I decided to call the gym directly. The person who answered the phone was incredibly rude and dismissive. They kept pushing me to deal with the third-party provider and made no effort to help on Crunch’s end, even when I explained that the third party had previously told me the gym needed to finish the reactivation process.

When I calmly asked if there was anyone else at Crunch—besides the unresponsive manager—who works with these providers so I could copy everyone on an email and resolve this more efficiently, the staff member became increasingly impatient. He even told me I should “just get a membership directly through Crunch” to avoid these issues. When I explained that my job provides this benefit for free, he still responded with attitude and implied it was my problem to deal with because I wasn’t paying Crunch directly.

After that call, I emailed both my third-party provider and the manager, Tom. Less than 15 minutes later, Tom finally responded, saying that if I re-enroll, my account should be active within a day or two—and that I was free to come in and use the gym in the meantime. He also told me to set a monthly alarm so I don’t forget to check in with the third-party provider to avoid cancellation again, and emphasized that this is a FitOn policy, not Crunch’s.

While I appreciated the gesture of allowing me to use the gym before reactivation, I honestly found the email passive-aggressive in tone. I responded politely, letting him know I would wait to hear back from FitOn customer service as well since it had been more than two days since I re-enrolled, and that I had, in fact, already set monthly reminders—but missed one last month due to the chaos of my wedding and honeymoon trip. As anyone can imagine, weddings are hectic.

At the end of the day, I just don’t understand how a company whose branding centers around being “judgment free” can be so dismissive and condescending toward members who use a third-party service. Whether we pay directly or through a provider, we are still paying customers. We deserve the same level of respect and support as anyone else walking into that gym.

Crunch needs to seriously rethink how it treats people who use alternative membership options—and start practicing the inclusivity and respect they preach.

(next day review) Updated Review – Positive Progress

I wanted to provide an update on my experience with Crunch. After some ongoing issues regarding the activation of my membership, I reached out to FitOn, who responded and clarified that the problem was due to a processing error on Crunch’s end.

Following that, Tom from Crunch got in touch via email and explained that he has contacted corporate, as the issue couldn’t be resolved at the club level. He also took the extra step of noting my account so that I wouldn’t face any trouble accessing the gym in the meantime.

I genuinely appreciate how Tom is now going above and beyond to help resolve this situation. His proactive communication and effort to make sure I can use the facilities without further inconvenience have made a big difference. Thank you, Tom, for stepping up and taking ownership of the issue!

I genuinely wish I could leave zero stars for this experience—it was that uncomfortable. A mentor of mine is helping me get back into a healthy fitness routine, and we stopped by Crunch for a simple consultation. What we got instead was a textbook example of poor customer service, courtesy of an employee named Tom.

At first, Tom seemed friendly enough. He greeted us and had us sign a waiver to check out the gym—totally standard. But as soon as we started asking basic questions about the membership, his tone noticeably shifted. He became visibly irritated, glancing around as if trying to pass us off to someone else, only to tell us he was short-staffed.

When we asked about available classes, Tom dismissed the idea entirely, telling us classes "shouldn't be your focus" if we’re just getting back into working out. Instead, he aggressively pushed personal training sessions, which of course came at an additional cost. When we asked if training was included in the membership, he literally scoffed and said, “No gym offers free training.” (That’s not even true—Planet Fitness, for example, does. So, lie number one.)

From there, the experience just tanked. Tom treated us like we were trying to game the system or get a free ride. When we asked about membership fees—again, a completely reasonable question—he condescendingly replied, “Well are you looking to pay like five bucks to be here? Because if you are, this isn’t the place.”

Excuse me?

We were trying to understand what services were included in the price—something any potential customer should feel comfortable asking. His final response? “The fee gets you in the door if that’s what you're asking.” At that point, it was clear we were wasting our time.

I could have gotten more useful information (and a lot more respect) just by visiting the website. Tom’s unprofessional attitude was disheartening, especially for someone like me who's taking steps to improve their well-being. I truly hope management reads this—and that Tom does too. If you're the first point of contact for prospective members, a little basic hospitality goes a long way.

I decided to try this Crunch because the one in Union was bleh and this one was also a 40-minute walk from my hotel during my stay.

So, at first glance, this is a nice looking Crunch - much nicer looking than most. Very clean, and spacious locker rooms. I did get a free pass but the guy told me it was like $30 a day after that - I would have come back for a few more days (and paid) if it wasn’t that expensive. $30 a day? That is like a months membership to some places. But I guess they got to do what they got to do.

Just like other Crunch Fitnesses, lots of variety and lots of equipment. That is a given but this one is lacking some kind of common equipment. The layout is unique, but complicated for some stuff like if you are using some equipment it’s literally in the way of one of two paths to get to the other side of the gym. And it has a ramp randomly that you have to go out of your way to take - so it looks like most people go the other direction but that direction has a cable machine and supported t-bar row; so if you are at either of those, prepare to move for people coming through or have them walk by.

This gym doesn’t police members for not putting weights and plates up, so that is annoying. The dumbbells and benches are very crammed into a corner but there is plenty of space to spread them out. And there are not a lot of benches compared to most other Crunch Fitness gyms.

It is a good gym, not a great gym. It gets the job done but I can get the job done for cheaper elsewhere. So, if you are in town on a visit, use the day pass then go somewhere else, this one is too expensive to pay daily.

Listen, if I could give this more than 5 stars I would! If you’re thinking about joining a gym, definitely join Crunch Hoboken and ask for Colin, he’ll get you set up and make sure you have everything you need! Crunch has been the best decision I’ve made for a gym in Hoboken. I have tried other gyms here but seriously no gym has made me this happy and comfortable. It’s affordable compared to places like Equinox, but still has everything: super clean, top-quality equipment, and it’s never too crowded, so you can actually get your workout done.

Being a commuter for work, it’s sooo perfect. They have full stations with mirrors, blow dryers, straighteners, curling irons, and showers, towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, space so you can get ready for work without any extra hassle. The vibe is laid-back, the music isn’t too loud, and everyone who works there is really friendly. Nothing makes me happier than walking into a gym with a friendly greeting!

Very rude & discriminatory location. Avoid this Crunch, or any for that matter. My boyfriend & I decided to try out this location with free guest passes due to I having negative experiences at the North Bergen location. Brian, the receptionist at front, immediately denied my boyfriend access for not being a "local" and when he replied that he essentially lives with me, Brian had a "say what" attitude about it. After confirming with another employee that it should be fine, Brian seemed to not like that and became passive aggressive & adamant in the fact that now my boyfriend could not access the gym due to "security reasons" because his last name was filled out incorrectly in the day pass, even though my boyfriend had given him his state issued driver's license with full name and photo ID. He then instructed my boyfriend to fill out the day pass on a kiosk and turned to me to say, "If it doesn't work, you guys are not going to work out here," in a condescending tone, almost as if he knew it was not going to work and was using it as an excuse. While we were understanding and cooperative with these rules and regulations, it was completely out of our knowledge, not listed anywhere at the time of filling out day passes, and overall Brian's attitude felt discriminatory the second he read my boyfriend's ID said he resided in Paterson. Don't waste your time here or at any Crunch.

I have been a member of Crunch Hoboken since February,24 and regularly take the group classes. This gym is fantastic, and I want to specifically call out one of the trainers out of many over there – Satya Resnick. He does Yoga sessions and is fantastic. Technically, he is very sound on the postures and has a great choice of asanas for the 1-hour class. Additionally, his choice of music for the class is very refreshing. Overall, the whole experience that he creates in that 1 hour is very relaxing and fulfilling. Crunch owners take note of his ability and the good job that he does.

Freddy Sanchez is the epitome of what a coach should be. He has very strong lifting fundamentals, is fastidious and precise in communication especially when dealing with complex compound movements. A great way for beginner and veteran lifters alike to start, continue or get back into training goals. Personally, I have trained with Freddy for a year and am thoroughly enjoying the competitive spirit he stokes, much needed in a 6 am session. He is equal part patient when dealing with lifts that require time. Recent example is allowing me time to build up to a 3 plate squat by incrementally pushing up 5-10 lbs per week. His defining factor is his wisdom to know when I need reprieve/ deload, rest and when to push to PR.

He is very supportive of maintaining an active lifestyle outside of training sessions. Under his supervision, I have run over 500+ miles YTD and finished my first ever marathon. He checks in frequently outside of class to make sure my runs and other sports haven’t hindered my recovery, if it did, he adjusts the session workout accordingly. A frequent anecdote is I tend to overuse my hip flexors when running, to assuage the overcompensation we would include nordic curls to balance out the muscle activation.

I think a lot of folks exercising here are/ were athletes at one point and want to bring back/ maintain that propulsive spirit, which is admirable. Personally I want the same. The truth is most of us work stationary jobs and over the years we may have retained the muscle memory but not the muscles to execute on them. I think Freddy fully understands this eagerness to excel but helps to temper and hone your adrenaline into a measurable linear progression instead of a sporadic pump that inevitably leads to injury (or worse, giving up). This measured but firm guidance takes thousands of hours of coaching to develop and I feel fortunate to be a beneficiary of it.

The classes provided at Crunch Gym are incredibly well balanced, not only do they help you achieve your goals, but they also provide a fantastic opportunity to connect with others who share similar goals. After attending classes for three months, I decided to hire one of the instructors as a personal trainer, Dillard, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Dillard’s expertise and guidance have been invaluable. Not only does he tailor exercises to my physique, but his emphasis on correct form has significantly improved my progress. I’m amazed by how much I’ve achieved in just six months under his guidance.

There rules for guest passes don’t align with their promotions. Since my friend has been a guest here before, they wouldn’t honor a 3 day guest pass even though the promotion on the pass doesn’t say anything about being a guest multiple times. I understand the idea behind this but don’t pass out free guest passes if it means they can’t be used.

This gym is packed with people all the time. And all the equipment is stacked together like cordwood. So you can pretty much guarantee that whatever you are doing, there will be three people panting in your face. If you are using free weights a mat, or the "grass" area, you will have to interrupt your exercise every few seconds to let someone get by you. The locker room is the same but even more cramped: difficult to change because someone is always jostling you or trying to get by.

? Not a member. I wouldn't recommend this place anyways. Never ever put cardio against a window and why gyms do this is a huge error. Why? Cardio should always be facing weight area. Reason is its supposed to inspire cardio freaks into lifting weights. Why people believe that steady cardio at same intervals is good training is highly incorrect. One needs to do blasts of fast w slowdown. And not to stay on for more than a few min then switch up and get back on it.

Nice gym overall, but maintenance lacks often. Equipment is generally fine. But:
- men's Showers: most are stuck between hot and scorching. Can't cool down in them.
- men's showers: have seen things like band aids or hair on shower floor and not cleaned for 2-3 days (not even remotely acceptable. Should be cleaned thoroughly at least daily)
- towels: during busy hour, there can be none left
- soaps etc: some have broken pumps and don't work
- steam room: doesn't work 1/4 of the time

Not being nit-picky but if you're going to be a premium gym and have people pay a premium price, the small details for especially those of us that get ready for work after gym etc. (Aka use the amenities) should work and have a premium feel.

I'm extremely upset about the management here. I came by the facility yesterday, June 20th and spoke with the manager about potentially joining. I informed him that I came by the facility before, as a guest, and was interested in potentially becoming a member. I informed him that I work in Hoboken.
He told me that there was an option of joining via "Gym Pass" through my health insurance and that there were multiple facilities and gyms that I can use on said pass. I then took his option into consideration. Today, I discovered that crunch offers a 3 day temporary guest pass. As I walked in today, the same manager approached me at the entrance counter and asked if I was ready to join today. I informed him that I'm still thinking it over and that I had a 3 day guess pass voucher in my email. He then told me that I'm unable to use the pass. He told me that I'll be able to use the facility for today only, but I can't use the 3 day pass voucher that was emailed to me. He was extremely rude and condescending about it! I don't understand how he can simply deny my 3 day guess pass. Is he on commission and strong arming me into buying a membership? Am I being targeted as a black man? This is unacceptable! I feel discriminated against!

People come here because there isn't a better option in town.

First of all, people absolutely do not wipe down machines after use. I have watched 4 people use the same treadmill within 45 minutes with not a single person wiping it down. People also don't wipe down the machines or benches they use. It's disgusting.

Secondly, when this gym gets crowded (7 am - 9 am, 5 pm - 8 pm), it becomes impossible to get a solid workout in. People will block off huge areas with all their belongings and you'll have to actively stand and wait for a machine to open. It's gym gridlock.

Crunch has a lot of Hoist machines, which are often awkward to use. They should get rid of a few of these and replace them with machines people will actually want to use. For example, the Hoist glute master is awkward and rarely used. A regular kickback machine would take up less space.

Additionally, the steam room and sauna really aren't that great. The sauna takes a very, very long time to heat up - probably a good 20 minutes. I often see people sitting in there with the sauna completely off. As for the steam room, it smells like mildew in there.

The gym is great but the fitness classes not so much. The equipment in the cycling class is so old!

Solid gym with a great view for outdoor running. The staff is very friendly and the facility is always clean and organized. Just gets more crowded than your typical crunch during busy hours.

Just joined Crunch fitness and did personal training sessions with Brian Johnson. Highly recommend Brian- he is very knowledgeable in the personal training space, attentive and put me on a path to achieve my goals in the gym. Brian is the first personal trainer I’ve ever worked with and he set the bar high. He is very personable and fun to work with!

really nice gym but you literally can’t move in the gym from 5pm-8pm, way too crowded and not worth the price

Edit, after visiting a few other gyms, seems like crunch gives you the best bank for your buck. They have the newest equipment and it also super clean

The Crunch in Hoboken is a beautiful facility! They have a lot of space and different sections inside the gym so you don’t feel like you are working out on top of somebody else. They also have designated stretching areas and a classroom you can use if it’s not occupied. The locker rooms are super clean and well cared for. They offer fantastic discounts for military and law enforcement so if you qualify I suggest taking advantage!

Overall I’ve been a member for a long time and pleased with the experience however my current experience and situation has made me less than enthusiastic about how Crunch operates as a company in trying to solve simple membership issues!

I recently underwent shoulder surgery and currently in recovery. I requested a simple medical freeze on my account during my period of recovery, and something that other club chains had a representative at the front desk be able to do, has for Crunch someone one being sent through a Byzantine corporate ladder to get resolved.

If you send the requested emails there’s no acknowledgment of receipt or status. If you call the “billing department” they’re even less helpful, a misnomer no doubt. If you physically stop into the club with proof and documentation they defer and state “we have to wait on approval from corporate.” Ridiculous runaround!

I’ll be posting this experience elsewhere so be forewarned! Good facilities for the most part but if you have membership issues be careful ready for a long road to fix it!

This gym is definitely worth it! It’s clean, everything is well-maintained, the classes are great, and there are plenty of machines. The manager, Craig, is also super helpful (all the employees are, I’ve just talked to Craig the most) and friendly.

Put my membership on hold due to COVID. They unilaterally terminated the hold, according to a new poliacy. They will not cancel my membership without payment of the month they billed when they canceled my membership hold. Totally unreasonable billing. I did not have a contract with them but they act as though i am obligated to be a member so long as they want my money and I don't have any say in the matter

Been a member for the past month, and I’m never one to leave reviews, but this place is top-tier. Christian gave me a killer tour, and he helped me get set up with my personal trainer Zach. If you’re looking for a personal trainer, someone to help you get into a fitness routine, Zach is the man! I haven’t felt this good in so long — he’s patient, helpful, very knowledgeable and personable, and an all around awesome human. 10/10 would recommend, and I actually look forward to going to the gym so totally look into it especially if you’re a newbie like me!

I tried out the gym for one month in september and then I decided to cancel my membership to do jiujitsu instead, so I sent them an email in october asking to stop my membership. I knew I would have to pay for november as well as per the contract but it was ok for me. Comes december and they charge me ! So I go to the gym and ask for them to stop. The guy tells me they already know I rescinded, so I leave. In January I block my card to stop them and their payment fails and then they send me an email asking for me to pay my "membership" ! Thankfully they cancelled my membership and refunded me after I called them. I,m giving 3 stars because they eventually solved my problem on the phone.

Was a decent gym before Covid but now they constantly harass me for unpaid dues even though I canceled months ago! I would highly recommend joining Equinox instead even though it's more expensive, their customer service is top notch and if you need to cancel or pause your membership, they'll be professional and attentive to your needs.

Got burned by Crunch after being with them for 3+ years… Went to make changes to my membership and it was so difficult to get any customer service. Finally got someone to cancel my membership and was told I wouldn’t be charged any further. …I was charged further and they will not respond to fix the error. They’re always there when they’re trying to sell you on a new membership and services, but are nowhere to be found when the mistake is in their favor. Recommend shopping a better gym.

Nice gym with good equipment, but there are only 2 squat racks and there needs to be 2-3 more at least. They are almost always occupied by someone. The mornings are a little better, but at night there are often multiple people in line for a single squat rack.

Management, if you are listening, please try to get a few more squat racks. There are several redundant cardio contraptions and weight machines that could be removed to make space.

Did trial workout yesterday (9/3/20) If you can afford a few more $ than nysc (my current gym)...rn there's a promo making it $70/ mo it's worth it. Layout of the gym maximizes workouts and potential for supersets. more comp bathroom stuff (when it fully opens). Sauna and steam room(closed for now). newer machines. Really nice trx/kettlebell area. way more variety of things to do...if you feel comfortable going there was barely anyone in the gym. All mbers wearing masks and wiping everything down after they were done. nice view of the water too.

The nicest gym in the area, hands down. Very clean and the equipment is always well-maintained. View of the city skyline from the windows in the front. Great free weight selection and functional training area including a heavy bag, trigger point rollers, kettlebells, and TRX.

Well maintained sauna and steam room. The gym is full of fitness enthusiasts - everyone from beginners to meatheads to yogis. The lighting in this gym is always flattering too. I imagine that's intentional, because anytime I go with a friend or guest they mention it.

This is the most well appointed gym in Hoboken with highly certified personal trainers to match. I joined the gym in February 2019 and registered for personal training services from Michael "Mike" Lanza, and I am extremely satisfied with the decision.

Mike was extremely knowledgable, professional, and flexible to arrange for personal training services whenever they were needed. Additionally, Mike tailored workouts to meet my personal goals. Mike dedicated the first few months to correcting my form on basic movements and building foundational strength before we began more complex exercises, and I have never felt better after a workout with increasing weights than when working with Mike.

Overall, I highly recommend Crunch Hoboken for its amenities and surplus of equipment, some of which you will be hard pressed to find at other gyms in the area; however, the real selling point is the personal trainers they employ like Mike Lanza.
