East West Karate is a wonderful environment for students of all ages. Classes are taught with a delicate balance of hard work and fun. Sensei and the family of blackbelts have provided my sons an excellent set of skills including self-discipline, focus and confidence, not to mention self-defense.

I've been training at East West Karate with Sensei Klinger for almost 27 years. The discipline, respect, work ethic and confidence that I've gained over those years have undoubtedly helped shape the strong, professional, successful woman that I am today. The instructors genuinely care about every student, development and growth (both physically and mentally) are of the utmost importance, and hard work is rewarded. There is no doubt in my mind that I would highly recommend this dojo to students of all ages!

East West Karate Academy is a breed apart nationwide in the traditional martial arts space, and recognized worldwide by the past and current living pioneer practitioners for its continued traditional and practical Okinawan instruction since 1989. At EWK, respect is taught, everyday, 24/7/365, inside and outside the dojo ages 5 to senior citizens. There is no day off when it’s comes to instilling respect in the minds of our students.

I am one of those EWK senior citizens for 20 years and our Dojo comes with my highest recommendation.

This is what I was looking for in a Dojo. East West teaches a form of traditional Okinawan Karate, heavy on respect, hard work, practice. They also add a good dose of fun to every class, which makes it easy to come back.

Excellent for developing strong resilient children. Many families study together.

Instructors are all home-grown. They are talented and well-rounded, and really seem to care about the students. EW has a huge family of black belts to learn from.

Not the place to come to earn a black belt in a year - but the time you spend will be well worth it.

Top quality Martial Arts school, where children through adults train. Great learning environment and a source of Lifelong friendships. Both my Daughter and I have been active members of this dojo for 10+ years and the benefits are well beyond the Art. Sensei Klinger’s depth of knowledge provides for an ever changing class experience. Worth my time in a busy world, where time is precious.

I will always recommend East West Karate and Sensei Klinger. I started training with him when I was just 9 years old. Sensei is a great role model, coach, and teacher. He and his black belts truly instill a work ethic, and more, you just can’t get anywhere else. The instruction is quality, expectations high, and outcomes even better! As a student, you will get in great shape, learn to defend yourself, and carry these lessons with you through life. I am an adult now and teach out in NC...and am 100% certain that my quality experiences at East West, with top notch instructors, helped forge many paths in life I wouldn’t have otherwise. Go East West!

Went to inquire about karate for my 4 year old, who is excelling at gymnastics and ballet. Manager laughed at my question, and said he is not a baby sitter and I should just go to "Chuckie Cheeses". Loss for words. He told me I can come back next year and he'll think about it. Very disrespectful and glad I saw his true colors up front.

My husband and I cannot say enough positive things about East West Karate Academy. Our son, Mike, has been a student since 2011. Sensei Scott Klinger and all of the instructors are absolutely phenomenal. Mike has developed self confidence, and our family values of respect, hard work, dedication, discipline, and sense of community have all been further solidified. We also love watching his skills improve and seeing the sense of pride that he feels in belonging to this wonderful community.

My wife enrolled our son Frank at East West Karate Academy when he was 3 years old back in 1999. After almost 16 years with Sensei Klinger, our son is now a 2nd degree black belt. It took many days and nights in the dojo to achieve this rank, but our son has truly loved Isshinryu karate and has remained dedicated to this dojo over time. It has helped him become a better student, a better athlete, and most importantly a better person. In the past, I have heard some parents complain about the level of commitment needed to succeed. Sensei Klinger has always been transparent and stated, "This is not a belt factory. Quitters never win, winners never quit. Hard work, practice, and long term commitment are the requirements for success".
Through karate our son has gotten the opportunity to travel and compete at the regional, state, and national level where he has won various medals. We traveled with him in 2008 to Okinawa, Japan, the birthplace of karate. In 2014, he was selected to be a member of the US National team that traveled to the World Championships in Munich. And in July 2014, Frank was selected by the Isshinryu Hall of Fame as the young karate ka competitor of the year.
My wife and I are extremely grateful to Sensei Klinger, Sempai Brian Eckinrode, and all the black belts that have played such an important role in our son's life.
My advice to any parent is to encourage your son or daughter to visit East West, participate in a class, and you will quickly see what an outstanding environment this is.

Sincerely,
Nick Cutrone (parent of Frank Cutrone, Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt).

East West Karate Academy has proven to be an ideal learning environment for both my daughter and myself. With a combined 8 years of training in this school we have been exposed to a nationally recognized mentor in Sensei Klinger and top skilled Isshinryu Black Belt instructors. This is a traditional school which emphasizes practical true application of form and Martial Arts discipline. Those who want a connection to the origins of Okinawan Karate will find it here. While new students will immediately find the school and instructors welcoming and attentive, they will discover that this it is not a casual program, it is specifically for those that wish to learn the skills of the Masters; it is not a school for those that simply want to get to their next belt. Advancement is earned through hard work and dedication. It offers excellent instruction for Youth and Adults alike!

East West Karate Academy is a great place to challenge yourself to be your best. Excellent experience for all ages. Great atmosphere with friendly staff. Top notch instructors, fun and learning at the same time. Excellent school builds confidence and discipline. Come and see for yourself but don't expect to be handed your belt without working for it. East West Karate Academy is like a family to me. I can't thank Sensei Scott Klinger enough for all the training he and his instructors have given our grand daughter Emily. Its amazing how far she has come.

When I started my karate training at East West Karate Academy, my daughter had already been a student for a few years. I had noticed she was more focused and determined in other areas of her life including school and other sports. I knew starting karate as an adult was going to be difficult but Sensei Klinger and all of the instructors made me feel welcome from the first day. With a wide variety of karate students from the young to the young at heart, my training at the dojo has been amazing. Stop by East West Karate in Sparta and try a class or two. The journey has been great so far and I look forward to the future.

My 10 year old son, Kierran has been a student at East West Karate now for 5 and a half years. I cannot say enough about this school, the instructors, the other students and the other families. My son is the quiet, sensitive type and I wanted him to gain courage, confidence and self-esteem. I found that he has gained SO much more than that! The progress he has shown in his confidence and attitude are remarkable. I continue to be impressed by the all of the kids from this school as they grow up and become young adults. Their positivity, utmost respect and encouragement they display are simply admirable . I am extremely proud that my son is a part of this academy or rather family. The lifelong skills and lessons he learns here cannot be matched. I will forever be thankful and grateful for all that my son is learning here. It's not just the physical aspect of the art of karate, but the other disciplines and lessons as well, that he will carry with him forever.

I highly recommend East West Karate Academy. My son has been attending for the past two years and we anticipate many, many more years of training there. The instructors are incredible, the facility is beautiful and the tuition can't be beat. Before finding East West my son attended a couple of other schools in the area and there is no comparison.

In 2003 I enrolled my child,Ciera Ray,into East West Karate Academy.
Ciera was 3 years old at the time.
Being that Ciera is an only child, she was a bit shy.
Brian Eckenrode,Sempai, would patiently work with Ciera building her confidence and self esteem.
Ciera began advancing to the point where Sempai Eckenrode would ask Ciera to help lead the class!
Ciera was absolutely thrilled!!!
Sempai means "Big Brother".
Sempai Eckenrode's leadership is endearing to Ciera.
He will always be her Sempai (big brother) for the rest of her life.
A fitting name for an outstanding instructor!
The "entire" East West Karate Academy is considered a family.
From parents to grandparents,
from friends to distant relatives,
East West Karate Academy is based on one big support system.
Sensei Scott Klinger is the owner and head instructor of East West Karate Academy.
I'am proud to say,Sensei Scott Klinger is currently an 8th degree black belt-Hachi Dan.
Hanchi Dan is the formal samurai title of Kyoshi.
Sensei Scott Klinger trains hard and is striving towards his 9th degree - Ku Dan.
Ku Dan is the formal samurai title of Hanshi.
Sensei Scott Klinger is one of the younger Sensei's to hold such a "High Title".
Sensei Scott Klinger was also inducted into the Isshinryu Hall Of Fame 2012.
Another "Impressive Title" which Sensei Scott Klinger represents so proudly.
Sensei Scott Klinger competed throughout his entire career earning numerous medals, trophy's and awards.
Sensei Scott Klinger and East West Karate Academy Competitors have traveled all throughout the country competing on a National Level.
Sensei Scott Klinger and East West karate Academy is "Highly Recognized" by the AAU Organization.
East West Karate Academy has produced the top competetiors who hold State,National and even "World titles!"
The reason I mention all of Sensei Scott Klinger's achievements is because "This" Sensei trains hard.
Sensei Klinger is committed and personally dedicated to training all his students the same way he would train himself.
Sensei Klinger strives to bring all his students to the best of their ability.
Talking from experience,I'am very proud to say,my daughter Ciera Ray is currently going on her 5th year as a National Title Holder!
Ciera Ray has made many new friends from all over the country through the AAU experience.
Ciera has become so much closer to her current friends,we now consider family, through our AAU and Competition travel experience.
This is what East West Karate Academy has contributed to my child's life.
Ciera Ray is an Honor Roll student who strives for all A's.
Ciera pushes herself to achieve more than an average score.
This positive attitude Ciera adopted is applied to in all she does.
Ciera Ray is a well mannered, intelligent human being.
I attribute all of her successes to East West Karate Academy.
All the caring, support and discipline from Sensei Klinger,as well as the instructors,
who provide a positive, reinforcing atmosphere for all students and anyone who enters there.
I am so very proud to be a student and assistant of East West Karate Academy!

East West Karate has really helped my kids to increase their self-esteem. The Group at East West Karate take a real interest in your child's development. My children have learned a great deal including that to be successful you have to put forth the effort and that nothing is given to you and that you have to earn everything that you achieve. East West is definitely not a "pay money, get belt" place and that is what I like about it. My kids are learning life lessons and karate is the vehicle.

As a parent of a student that has been attending East West Karate Academy for the last 7 years I can't say enough about this dojo. From the instructors to the other students, it really is a family. I've seen my child go from a tiny white belt to their current status of brown belt and when the day comes that they get their black belt, I will know it wasn't bought but earned.

So many other martial arts schools "hand out belts" because the parents have paid x amount or the student has put in x amount of time. At East West, you earn your belt and in return will be better prepared to defend yourself if the need arises and not to mention the self confidence the dojo instills in each student. Each belt is truly something to be proud of because of the fact it was earned and not bought.

For anyone considering enrolling their child in martial arts, I highly recommend you give East West a good hard look. The instructors are great and care for each and every students development. As a parent, I can't think of having my child enrolled in any other Dojo.

Our five Daughters have been taking classes at East West Karate for over a year now. We absolutely love Sensei Klinger and the other instructors at his Dojo! They are all learning excellent skills that I believe will carry them forward in life in ways that other sports cannot accomplish. As a mother of five girls I want them to be able to take care of themselves in various social situations. My husband Brian loves the values they are learning and the quiet sense of confidence that is displayed from the black belts. All of the teenagers at the Dojo at various belt levels seem to have a very positive sense of themselves from what they are learning from Sensei Klinger and we want the same for our girls who range in age now from 6-12. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND East West Karate and if you are looking for a great place for your children to instill proper values and also learn the art of Karate - you should absolutely enroll them! Brian and I wish we had the time to take classes as we believe it is also a great environment for adults as well!
