As someone who comes to the gym before work at 5am, everyone expects the gym to be open. At least 3 days a week the employee is at least 20 minutes late. You never get an apology, many cars turn away, and out workouts are shortened.

Ratamus is the worse employee there at Elite. He is very rude and condescending. Elite fitness should evaluate the way in which he interacts with their guests. I was going to join but after he spoke with my daughter calling her cheap only because she wanted to downgrade is bizarre to me. If I could give no stars I would. He's the worse!!!

The gym is cozy, small, and convenient. The training equipment is sufficient and new. The staff is polite and friendly. We enjoyed going to this gym.

However, our experience took a turn for the worse when we tried to cancel our membership for a gym with a pool and family plan. We were told that we couldn’t cancel just yet and had to pay the next month, even though the month hadn't started yet. They refused to cancel it again and charged us for the next month. After disputing, they finally let us go without charging for the third month, but they took the year’s deposit, which they had charged us twice (once every year), I believe. So, we ended up paying 3 or 4 months’ worth of fees just to get rid of them. This completely spoiled our impression of the gym.

Now, they’re sending me promotional texts asking me to come back. I don’t believe I will.

Faulty machines and management is not aware or doesn’t care. I have been complaining about faulty treadmills for over a year yet machines are not repaired. Spoke to manager and it seems he heard about faulty treadmills first time. I hope owners are aware of the issue.
Management is refused to shutdown these unsafe machines. Doesn’t care members.

Came to this gym with high expectations. They have good classes. The room for classes is dirty and has hairs all over the floor. Some attitudes are real as well. When you complain about anything the answer you get is and I quote “ you have to deal with it”. The membership you pay should at least give you a clean environment. Unfortunately can’t leave and get stuck with a monthly membership.

So 1 month ago complained about a spin bike that is broken. The monitor to see you rpm progress not visible. One month later still not fixed.

My husband gave me a 3 months membership and asked if there is a way to not auto charge him after because we will be away for the summer. They said yes, pay extra $5 per month and we wont auto charge you after the 3 month. Guess what they did after 3 month! They auto charged him AND charged him for the anual membership, even tho we are going for oly 3 months, not a year. We called to dispute it but the guy said we can't credit you back the money :(.
Also, when I initially joined, I asked for an orientation appointment so I can be familiarized with the equipments. I have a shoulder injury and ot has been a long time since I went to a gym, so was feeling anxious. The manager/trainer set up an appointment with me for a free orientation and when the time came I went but the trainer didn't show up. The girl at the front desk felt bad because she saw the appointment scheduled on the screen so she spend time showing me around.
This is not how you build a comunity or run an honest business.

There is much room for improvement in this gym. Class fitness room is not the cleanest with dirt and hair all over the floor on a Saturday morning with no prior classes that day. Recently visited on a Sunday and the equipment was in disarray while the front desk attendant sat on their phone. Multiple machines broken and haven’t been fixed.

I recently tried out the 7-day pass and overall the experience was okay—until today. After my workout, I went to grab a smoothie and was disappointed to hear that the matcha smoothie (which was by far the best one) has been discontinued.

I tried to choose another option, but was told they were out of almond milk, coconut water, and bananas—which are staples for most of the smoothies. To make things worse, the staff member helping us seemed frustrated and dismissive from the start. She ignored us initially and had an attitude throughout the interaction, almost as if it was our fault that so many ingredients were unavailable.

Today was the last day of my trial, and I had been planning to sign up for a full membership—but not with that kind of treatment. Ms. Attitude made it an easy decision to walk away. Honestly, if you’re out of nearly everything, just let people know up front that smoothies aren’t available. It saves everyone time and frustration. A little transparency and better customer service go a long way.

Very upsetting experience. My friend and I, both minors, were just trying to find the nearest way to get to a pizza place. We were walking and talking and deciding which way to go — my friend suggested taking the parking lot route, while I preferred the road with a proper sidewalk. While we were figuring it out, the owner suddenly came out, started yelling and cussing at us, and even accused us of “acting like drunk people,” which was completely false and unnecessary. He also threatened to call the police on us, even though we weren’t doing anything wrong or causing any trouble. It was aggressive, intimidating, and completely uncalled for. No one — especially kids — deserves to be treated like that.

I was tired of the local gyms and decided to give Elite Fitness a try , best decision ever. The equipment is super up to date, and the gym is always clean. My favorite spot is the cardio area, but I also love the spin and group classes, the energy and instructors are unmatched. The shake bar is so good, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend if you want a gym that truly has it all!

This place hands-down is the worst gym ever!. It’s always over 75°. It’s unbearable to work out. It’s filthy and it smells. The management is awful. The owner of the gym is Nate and he’s not even in the state of New Jersey. He is running his place in Connecticut. I have spoken to him numerous times. He’s always claiming he’s fixing something but nothing ever gets done. Besides all the treadmills being out of order, none of the machines are calibrated properly. The weight is completely off on all of them. The front staff is useless.
Save yourself the aggravation and your money and go elsewhere. And all those five star reviews that are here are not real.

Elite Fitness Tried to Silence Me – Proof Inside!
After months of overcharges and no resolution, the gym manager told me that my account was canceled. However, they also said they expected me to update my review in exchange. When I didn’t do it, they kept charging me!
I have email proof of this unethical behavior. If you care about honest businesses, stay away from this place!

Had to update this to say, out of 16 treadmills, about 10 have a out of order sign for about 2 weeks.. 10! That is ridiculous for a gym- how can anyone walk? Members should get their maintenance fee returned if equipment is not being maintained.

I was very hopeful and excited when I first signed up but right away there's been issues. First off, someone stole my personal belongings directly on the gym floor which I reported right away and management never got back to me. The front desk just claims they have no accesses to the cameras so the cameras are useless. Second off, the majority of the treadmills are broken. It took months for them to take it seriously and to at least add a sign. It's very dangerous. Now the signs are there for more than the week and still no update. 3rd off, they don't know how to use the TV. We have no choice but to share the same TVs as there isn't any on the cardio machines. Yes I need something to watch as I try to run after having a baby. Some of the workers don't know how to put the captions on even one guy at the desk turned it off while I was on running and several ppl were annoyed and told him. He couldn't put it back. Another time, a supervisor once told me there's no captions on live TV which isn't true because I was able to fix it and she snapped at me to just use my phone. Well there's no place to put the phone on a cheap treadmill. I tried this once and it literally fell below my feet while I was running. Anyways, what's the point of having gym TVs if we can't use them? I feel trapped now because I'm locked in with a year contract but if these issues keep continuing, I'm just going to have a chat with my bank.

Terrible Experience with Overcharges and Poor Customer Service

I have had a terrible experience with Elite Fitness due to repeated overcharges and poor customer service.
On October 2, I was overcharged $41.65
On December 20, I was charged $111.02
On January, I was overcharged another $40.51

In January, I went to the gym in person to address the issue. Instead of canceling my membership, I froze it while trying to resolve these billing problems. The manager asked me to send a photo of the $111.02 charge to his personal phone, but he never resolved the issue.

Now, I am extremely frustrated because I just found out that they have continued charging me for three more months! This is completely unacceptable.

If you are considering joining this gym, be very careful with their billing practices. They do not seem to care about their customers, and resolving issues with them is a nightmare. I do not recommend Elite Fitness at all!

DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! Hundreds of dollars down the drain!! It took me 7 months to cancel my membership during which I was still getting charged monthly!! The excuse was that it was an issue from the billing company. When they were eventually able to cancel my membership they weren’t able to refund me because “I didn’t fill out a document” no one told me I had to fill out before. I was calling them monthly about this issue and it only resolved after the third management turnover. I’m out hundred of dollars and am utterly frustrated that nothing can be done. Cleanliness is very important to me and they really are up to par with the cleaning. I really like the different selections of group classes that they offer. The pros: clean, decent amount of basic machines for each muscle group, staff is nice
It’s a good gym if you don’t need a personal trainer, don’t care for updated equipment or have patience to wait for machines to free up. It’s similar to planet fitness except the color theme isn’t purple and it’s smaller.

The cons:
-machines are too close to each other you literally have to squeeze yourself in.
-Two sections of facility dedicated to cardio machines which can be condensed to one section and the other section can be used for more weight training machines.
-Group classes are below average- and weight training classes barely have any standard equipment that you’ll find at other gyms
-When the fitness studio has a class you don’t have anywhere to stretch or do your own workouts with dumbbells
- No straight barbells they just have one where you add plates to it

Also DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING HERE especially with the GM you will get scammed and YOU WILL NOT GET A REFUND if you’re not happy with the service.

Really, really hate to leave a negative review, but my husband Bryan and I are at a loss for where to turn. We joined this gym in July and signed up for 1 month of personal training with the GM, Lee. He signed us up for ONE month of training with 4 sessions/month. He canceled 1 of those first 4 sessions and our credit card was continuously charged for 2 more months worth of sessions, nearly 700$ worth of personal training that we never received nor signed up for. We’ve disputed this charge multiple times and they keep charging our card again. After speaking with the GM, Lee, multiple times over a period of FIVE MONTHS- with refunds promised over and over… and over again. We’re at a loss of over 700 dollars for services that were never received. It sucks because we thought very highly of Lee when we met him.

Whatever you do, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR PERSONAL TRAINING. You won’t receive what is promised and you’ll keep getting charged even after canceling and you’ll be promised refunds that you’ll never get back.

We also have canceled our membership and joined another gym down the road the moment these issues began… It sucks because it’s a nice gym with kind staff and very well kept with great fitness classes.

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with Lee. I was told I would have my money reimbursed for training sessions that I did not want, but two months later after trying to contact him multiple times and getting told he was too busy to answer every single time I was not reimbursed. I’m really disappointed mainly because I thought he was being honest each time he said he was on the phone with billing. There is no one there to hold Lee accountable for his actions. I’ve been coming to this Rutherford gym now since it reopened about a year ago. This Elite Fitness location is my favorite of all the gyms in our local area. **Terrible Experience – Unethical Billing Practices**
I’ve never been one to leave Google reviews, but my experience with this gym was so frustrating that I had to share it. From the start, no policies were clearly explained when I joined. I made it *very clear* that I did not want to be auto-charged and asked to be informed before any future charges were made. Despite this, they went ahead and charged me without a single notice.

When I reached out, instead of offering any partial refund or taking responsibility, they just gave me the “it’s our policy” excuse. To make things worse, they even charged me more than I expected claiming the extra fees were for cancellation. Absolutely no transparency, no accountability, and zero care for customer satisfaction.

If you're considering joining, be very careful about their billing practices – they’ll charge you without a second thought and offer no help afterward. Truly the worst experience I’ve had with a gym.

Been coming here for a little over a year now, and I think it’s a solid affordable Gym with a made to order protein shake bar, spin classes, separate yoga, stretching, Zumba and aerobics classes area. Highest level of membership is ~$40 a month. Includes half off special seasonal shakes and guest visits free of charge. Tanning area and water massage bed too (haven’t used those though)

My issues are size as the typical times it can be very crowded. However that’s not something that can be helped (yet👀). There aren’t any weight/plate “trees” to put weights back because of the size of the gym area. Meaning you might have search another machine for a particular weight. Nothing too crazy though. And after very heavy rains there are leaks that make 1 or 2 areas out of order for half a day.

Friendly staff and alert managing. For example, there was an incident where another patron was very disrespectful to my girlfriend when she was there minding her own business waiting for a shake while I was at work. I came to the gym several hours later to follow up a report, and the report was already filed and that patron was banned deservedly so.

Great gym, smallish, but it's got anything you'll need and never too crowded where you're waiting in line for a machine.

I've been Training with Lee for the last few months to prepare for a wedding and I'm happy with the results. He gives you great advice and works with your goals to point you in the right direction. Highly recommend the gym and training sessions.

I’ve been coming to this gym for a while. I love the atmosphere, it’s a comfortable workout environment, the staff is very friendly, which honestly makes it a lot more fun to go to the gym. General Manager Lee definitely checks on his members and makes sure they are always having a great experience. I think the best part about the gym is that it’s never overly crowded where you have to wait for machines. Highly suggest!

I had been to Elite Fitness in Rutherford, NJ, a bunch of times as a guest and even on their 7day pass. I finally pulled the trigger on getting my own membership this year. One of the main reasons I decided to join was the incredible impact that the new management, especially Lee, has had on the gym.

Lee has transformed Elite Fitness into a welcoming and supportive environment that stands out from other gyms. His dedication to maintaining the culture at Elite as super friendly and respectful, makes every visit enjoyable. The cleanliness of the facility is evident, with spotless equipment, plenty of sanitizing stations available, and prestine locker rooms.

One of the standout aspects of Elite Fitness is the private training sessions with Lee. As a semi-pro athlete and soccer coach, my fitness needs are unique and demanding. Lee has been instrumental in keeping me on top of my training regimen, from ensuring I'm working smart at the gym or the field, getting enough rest, taking care of my muscles, or revisiting my nutrition for peak performance.

His expertise and personalized approach have helped me realize that as a coach, my fitness should be superior to that of the players and teams I work with. Lee’s guidance has been invaluable, pushing me to new levels of understanding with my physical performance, mental conditioning, nutritional awareness, recovery, and overall athletic goals.

The gym is equipped with state-of-the-art machines and free weights, catering to all types of workouts. The variety of classes, from yoga to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), adds significant value to the membership.

As a coach in town, I also send my high school players to Elite Fitness to supplement their practices. Whether they’re recovering from an injury, trying to get ahead of their peers, staying fit, or staying active in the off-season, this gym is perfect for them too. The improvements from strength training and conditioning at the gym have been remarkable and great for the off season.

The gym’s extended hours are perfect for when I was getting up super early for morning sessions before work, with starbucks right there to get my coffee on the way out. Even being open late for night workouts, makes it easy to fit exercise into my busy schedule. Sometimes, I even go to the gym before and after my games or team practices to take care of my muscles, hit the hydro massage table, and enjoy a delicious shake. (There’s even a tanning booth!) These amenities really enhance the overall experience. Just hitting the hydro massage table is worth stopping in when you have a membership.

Overall, Elite Fitness is more than just a gym for me; it’s become a sanctuary and a second home, largely thanks to Lee’s leadership and commitment to creating a positive culture. The changes under his management have made a noticeable difference, enhancing the overall experience. If you’re looking for a top-notch gym in Rutherford, NJ, I highly recommend Elite Fitness. Making a "Game Plan" with Lee, in particular, has been the missing piece for when my fitness and professional goals frustratingly plateaued. Trust me, you won’t regret joining!

Great gym, my only issue is the women bathroom. The women's bathroom stink, there is no air freshener.

Update*** Manager called me about this and listened to my issues. He told me they are fixing the issues and helped me feel better about the bathrooms. I appreciate his efforts. I changed this to account for the excellent customer service.

Visited Elite Fitness Rutherford the other day, to check it out, heard great things.
Word of mouth couldn’t have been better.
State of the art equipment, very clean. Amazing, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Trainers were very nice. The GM, Lee even came up to welcome me.
If you’re looking for a facility that has a homely vibe, clean, and welcoming, I highly recommend.
Got a great workout in, if I lived in that area, I’d definitely join.

I am currently a member at Elite fitness. The gym is very clean and the staff is professional and friendly. For the past four months I have been training with Greg Wetterau’s, who also manages the gym. He created a game plan for me and under Greg’s direction I have made tremendous gains in my strength, body composition, and overall health. I joined to get back in shape. You’ll notice all the machines are new, clean, and always available and in great condition. But what I discovered was Greg, and he helped me rediscover my inner strength. While some personal trainers go through the motions, Greg asks you to challenge yourself and will make you believe in your own strength again. I’ve seen him with members of all ages, body builds, and fitness, and he crafts their own plan meticulously. Come for the equipment, but stay for Greg, it’s a journey worth its weight in gold.

I joined Elite Fitness in the spring of 2023 and loved it from day one. In the fall of 2023, I signed on to personal training with Greg Wetterau which was a great decision! I have learned so much from Greg’s training! The gym is very clean, very well-maintained and the staff is so friendly. Bad management 👎👎👎. I need it help with solving my issue and i was being kindly explained my situation to the manager and instead of solving my problem I end up cancelling my membership because of the manager which who charge me while my account has been freeze and forget about trying to help he did not care. Clean, organized gym. Encourages wiping down of equipment before and after use... but today one of the paper towel dispensers was empty so I walked over to the counter where a large roll was sitting and was approached by a staffemeber and told that 'she was using it'... as if I was going to take the roll home with me. Really??? Maybe keep the dispensers full instead of chatting and patrons won't have to wander around looking for supplies. Everyone thus far has been polite or at the least neutral but this young lady needs to learn how to speak to patrons and maybe focus on doing her own job. Takes 30mins to win a customer and 5 seconds to loose one.

Gym is really nice and great location and selection of machines, employees are super friendly
3 stars bc the tvs are rarely on and working, wifi doesn't work most of the time, several machines out of order for a long time, never really see anyone cleaning.. most of the patrons don't clean up after themselves and the employees spend more time on their phones. Seen dirty towels, used bandaid in the same spots for days. Easy fixes to make! Hope they do before they start charging more for membership
