When I first checked out Equinox, I honestly wasn’t sure about joining. My first interaction with an associate wasn’t very clear, so I left feeling a little unsure. On my second visit though, Elle helped me out—she was super kind and really convinced me to go for it.

At first, scheduling personal training was a bit rocky since my original trainer (I think Joseph Marcantonio) canceled last minute. But then I got paired with Emily, and honestly she’s the sweetest and most amazing trainer. She made me feel comfortable right away and helped me build my routine from scratch.

Even with a couple of bumps at the beginning, I’m really glad I joined. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and overall the experience has been worth it.

I’ve never been one to work out but I wanted to start so I researched a couple of gyms and found this was the best and closest. I’m so happy I joined! Everyone is super friendly, the trainers (Ryan, Pam, Eddie) are fabulous and knowledgeable. The classes are tough and fun! I’ve been consistent over the last 9months and so happy to have joined.

Trainer was training some kid doing squat sit downs. His bottom was touching the bench where we put our heads on top of. Then proceeded to leave and not wipe down the bench. Pretty disgusting and disappointing. I wiped it down for the next person

My personal trainer, Pamela Horizonte, is amazing! She listens carefully to my goals and adjusts the workout plan based on my needs and progress. Every session feels personalized, effective, and motivating. She also provides practical nutrition advice, which has helped me make better choices outside the gym. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a trainer who truly cares about your results!

I've been a member of this equinox location for about a year. It's very clean and I really appreciate the amount of natural light you get inside the main areas of the gym. I've also been working with Pamela as a personal trainer for the past six months and it's been great. First the first time in my life, I'm able to do push-ups and pull-ups (unassisted!!!!) .This is mind blowing to me because i've worked with other trainers at other gyms in the past, none of them paid as much attention to my goals as Pamela has. She is great to work with and would highly recommend her if you're looking for someone to continually challenge you and take your goals seriously while still being fun to work with! The rest of the staff at the gym are friendly and it's really nice to show up at the gym and feel comfortable and have met some great people. From my experience observing interactions among other members people are courteous and often times motivate one another.

Terrible experience. I wanted to use the gym for the first time and sign up for a membership immediately after. I was told over the phone that the manager was informed and it wouldn't be a problem. When I arrived, I was refused entry. I ended up purchasing a $75 day pass, which I did not have a problem purchasing, but it was never offered to me as an option, I had to ask for it. I understand their policies, but the approach and delivery could have been better. Refusing entry made me feel like I was just a random person trying to take advantage in order to use the gym for free, which was not the case. I had previously connected with an associate and toured the facility, I just never got the chance to use the gym. I think it makes sense to want to try the gym at least once before signing up, since the memberships are for 1 full year, without the possibility to cancel. I think the situation could have been handled better and in a more polite matter. This situation left a bad impression of this facility. After this experience, I will not be signing up, which is very regretful since I really liked this gym :(

Beautiful gym, but they make it impossible to cancel. Wouldn’t help me out by refunding my money the day after they billed me (it’s not like we’d used the facility for the month yet) even after I explained that my husband lost his job and we need to cut expenses and won’t be using the membership for the rest of the month. Heartless. Terrible customer service. We won’t be back after the last month we paid for runs out, even when he gets a new job. We’ll find a different gym.

Very poor, disappointing, and unprofessional service across all levels, including the general manager of the site. I was promised to receive two FREE personal training sessions and a $100 gift card if i commit to a 1-year membership. However, not only did i NOT receive the gift card 2 months later but also I ended up with a $180 charge after my second personal training session (that was supposed to be free). It took multiple emails/calls back and forth to finally reverse their fraudulent $180 charge from my credit card and receive the $100 gift card I was originally promised. They were trying to avoid by all means giving me what I was simply promised before i signed the contract.
I would highly recommend not believing anything they promise to give you with a membership, they want to lock you in with the contract and then will treat you very poorly. Check the contract thoroughly before you sign and try to explore all other gyms in the area before you commit to a 1-year of poor service with Equinox.

They keep messaging and calling to make you join the facility and when you do join and fell into the year contract, you cannot cancel it.
Person named Julio kept calling, texting me to join. They gave me a month trial which I joined but didn't got a chance to go. They cut the first month charge, which was still fine. I told them to cancel it but then came forward the 1 year contract that I signed mysteriously hidden, when I signed for the facility. Who thinks before joining the gym, that It will be a year contract and you cannot cancel it?
I already live 21 miles away from the gym.
Now they demanding a written note from doc. that I cannot go to gym or a document saying I relocated to 25miles away. We don't have time to deal with such matters when it comes to gyms.
PLEASE AVOID EQUINOX AS A GENERAL, BECAUSE IF YOU SIGN UP FOR IT AND BY CHANCE YOU HAVE TO CANCEL, YOU WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH ALL THIS TROUBLE. PLENTY OF OTHER FACILITIES TO GO TO.

Equinox Short Hills is the most superior gym in all of New Jersey, The facilities are world class and full of everything basic gyms haven’t got right. Yes I need my phone sanitized upon entry, eucalyptus towels, Keihls products, let’s not forget machines that work, pins pared with machines, oh and beautiful souls committed to providing motivation to a healthy lifestyle. That’s what you’re going to get here and I have tasted and seen the goodness, they have path water 😎. If you had an issue with this center it may just be you prefer lypo honestly…. And that’s okay….. but I will be here five times a week showing what equinox do! 😍❤️💕

I love coming here on the weekends, it's not too busy, and it's nice and clean. The turn into the parking lot is a little hard to find, so go slow when you're coming up to it.
The one thing to note is that the lockers require you to bring your own lock. I didn't know this on my first trip, and the front desk loaned me one (A+ service!).
My 2nd visit, I decided I wanted to swim laps, but realized when I arrived I had no goggles... and conveniently the store sells them (another example of A+ service, in my book).

I have been going to this EQX for almost a year now and it more than meets my expectations. The gym is small, but it is located in a small town so I wasn't expecting something super grand. Otherwise, the staff works tirelessly to keep the place clean and it shows. The machines are well taken care of and the locker rooms are tidy. There are fresh towels in and out of the locker rooms at all times.

With the exception of Saturday morning Pilates the classes always have availability, which is a plus. And the trainers walk around and will answer any questions you may have. They have even helped me out with my workout on numerous occasions.

Overall, the staff is friendly and the gym is clean.

The gym is immaculate , always clean, the friendliest of staff but it has its down falls. The men’s steam has been broken since December of 22’ . They will fix (patch work) and it Will run for a couple of days to a week or two then it stops working . This is becoming more and more Frequent and I would think that with the amount of money we pay month it would be completely fixed by now. Also they dont provide a credit and the only other equinox is in paramus which is about a 45 minute drive. I love this gym but if this continues I will have to go back to lifetime .

Mainly chose this gym for its location. To be honest, this Equinox feels long overdue for a major refresh. Many machines I’ve never seen any member use once. Truthfully feels like there should at least be a second floor. This gym has gotten by since there’s nowhere comparable to workout (in non-class settings) nearby. I was recently a guest at LifeTime in Berkeley Heights and would leave them a higher rating. These past few weeks, I have encountered a number of mishaps firsthand at EQX: check-in system(s) down, steam room non-operational, power failure, satellite dish (TV) failure, no locker room air conditioning, etc.

The cold eucalyptus towels are great after a workout, which staff is consistently working to replenish. Plenty of treadmills and StairMasters to use. Added perk of wireless charging on some machines. Front desk employees are kind, smiling, inviting. Wipes stationed throughout gym to sterilize equipment with. Employees tasked with locker room upkeep have done a great job while I’ve been there.

I’d love if there were built-in locks like the majority of other locations have — this is even something I’ve discussed with other members. Everything was fine for me until a lulu hat and water bottle were stolen from my locker…not blaming the club for this, it just leaves a strange taste in your mouth.

100% could use a second pec deck — almost always a wait to use it, no matter the time of day. I’ve opened white towels to find hairs and/or speckled mold, more than once. Can be hard to find a comb, even just shortly after opening. Pool is okay, really nothing spectacular. Overall layout feels very strange and space doesn’t feel entirely well-utilized; juice bar honestly feels forgotten, unnecessary — could be modified into meaningful co-working space. No alternative ever provided with the loss of single-use plastic bags for dirty clothes. Heavy rain essentially submerges front lot and sidewalk. Shower area can get verrrry slick at times, almost dangerously so — it would be great if there was something on the ground to provide safety. There are *a dozen* (~12) well-developed potholes along the “paved” connector from the back lot to River Road — tried my best to count while avoiding them all; this is honestly very, very wild to me for this club and the cars in the lot…

It really feels like this club could be so much more, but it falls short and skates under the “Equinox” name.

Probably one of the worst gyms you can join as they won’t work with you in any way. When I first joined I was told the commute was only 28min to my house however, after I started going there after work commute was close to 50min each way! I showed them a picture of the GPS to explain to them it’s almost impossible to want to go to the gym and sit in traffic for 50min and the response by the manager was well take another route as if there is another route. Another note if the fact that they won’t work with you is enough the facility is extremely small gets very crowded and doesn’t even have a sauna. No sauna for 200 dollar membership? Terrible experience with this gym, I am now throwing money in the garbage as I can’t stand driving there.

Probably the worst gym you can join. When I signed up to the gym I was told my distance was only 28min which was ok for me. As soon I started going there after work my drive went up to 45 min to an hour. I requested to cancel
My membership as no one wants to take an hour an half just to get to and from a gym and they wouldn’t help me. I even showed them the GPS data displaying how long it takes me and the response from manager was take another route. Now I am either forced to drive over an hour just to use this membership or throw my money in the garbage. Be very aware before joining this gym as they will not help you and they only care about taking peoples money!

In March I decided to join Equinox in Summit, NJ. It reminded me of Reebok NYC (now Equinox) which I joined back in 1996 and loved. This facility is clean and updated. The first thing I did was to find a swim trainer (Lisa Fleming) and regular trainer (Marcus Gaudin). Without them, I would still be 20 lbs heavier, not so mobile and swimming incorrectly. The pool is salt water, btw. Both trainers made me realize I lacked confidence in my fitness capabilities. I hadn't realized that and am grateful to have that feedback. Equinox offers an array of classes led by highly experienced trainers. If you don't want to go to the gym, you can use their app and workout at home. I prefer to go to the gym because I get motivated and socialize more. The staff, trainers, coaches and members are all super friendly. If I do not know how to use a piece of equipment, there's a trainer or staff member to cheerfully explain. Equinox did have a few issues during the summer with the bathrooms and I believe they had to wait for a/some parts. It's back to usual - super clean - like nothing ever happened. There's always staff cleaning and sterilizing every part of the gym at all times. I highly recommend Equinox. The cost may seem high to some, but for me, it's been a lifesaver - I'm closer to my fitness goals and get inspired to be more productive at work and home. Best part, I get to ride my new folding bike and store inside instead of driving my car. There is bicycle parking available. If you drive, there's plenty of FREE space :)

For the smallest facility in area between NYC and NJ, at least keep the site top notch. Mold in bathroom showers, out of service sinks in both women and men. Even door missing from men shower stall. On top of hours already not flexible (weekends open at 7am). Juice bar written taped notice mentions open at 7am. Left at about 10am on weekend, juice bar closed, unmanned. For membership fee, expected so much more.

Not sure how a gym charging over $200+ per month for membership can justify these hours. A gym that closes at 7pm on Fridays, and 4PM on weekends? Really a terrible experience. EDIT: Since I wrote this review, equinox changed hours til 5PM on weekends. This is still unacceptable for a gym charging $195 minimum for membership.

The gym treated its members poorly in the pandemic. Equinox slashed hours, blocked off equipment and amenities, and yet they raised dues. As a loyal member, you got to use 25% of a gym for 100% fees. Since then, they’ve only limited the hours further, and raised dues again. They’ve alienated a large population of people who work weekends, people with families who can’t make it in the mornings, etc.

Otherwise, the gym simply isn’t anything great. The facility is small, gets crowded, and has limited basic gym equipment. The trainers take over the floor, bully members off equipment and leave their messes.

I Don’t recommend this gym.

I joined the gym two weeks ago and am thrilled. I did not expect to join. I was not even shopping around. Rather, I sold, in all the right ways. That is, on account of the quality.

The price is absolutely worth it. First, all of the classes are free. Count up your $40 a month membership plus $15 a class at your normal gym, and what do you get? $40 a month for nothing because you never go because you don’t want to pay another $15 each time for a class that’s fairly lame anyhow in a gym that’s too crowded anyhow where the locker rooms are are all metal, tile and plastic.

“Meh maybe I’ll just go to the park.” And then you don’t do that either.

Now imagine going 6 days a week because you genuinely want to. Bc the place makes you happy. Because you feel safe, energized, welcomed, special. Check it:

6 * $15 * 4 > $160
5 * $15 * 4 > $160
Even 4 * $15 * 4 > $160

It’s a steal. Go 3 times a week and you’ve covered the membership on the classes alone.

But now add a superb, positively undone staff. A hello every entry. A goodby every exit. Constant cleaning of the locker-rooms. They have staff permanently in the locker rooms, on a rotating basis, in constant motion. So its always spotless and it’s not like you have an attendant who’s just waiting standing there.

The app is actually fun to use not just useful. I like booking classes on it bc it’s more accountability. Some of their classes are now walk-ins but I’ve never been denied entry into a class even when late.

Now you worry: won’t I get bored? What about my niche yoga boutique class! No. Stop paying 50 people $20 each for “um, yea it was great.” This place has all the variety you want: yoga Pilates cycling many variations of bootcamp several types of athletic dance walking class running class stretch class. They keep up with the latest trends and science. The instructors in everything are, very clearly, the very best. And everything is in sync. So you get the best grade cycling instructor, the best grade yoga teacher, the most unbelievably serious (and fun!) Pilates, the most cutting edge bootcamps. All in one. One price. One place. All top quality.

I feel LUCKY to be a member. Thats how impressed I am.

Now come all the delightful little things. Once you have a solid product it’s truly the little things that separate you. I love the salt water lap pool (hardly ever used, in a wooden spa-like atmosphere). Then there are the cold Eucalyptus towels always stocked in two fridges on the floor. Just for you to cool down with between sets.

I’ve saved the best for last: the trainers. I won’t say more than this because it’s too special to describe further:

Are you a soul, of any gender, who wants to get stronger, healthier, and most important: happier? Good. Come. These folks believe in their product, in you, and in themselves. For good reason!

The locker room is pristine with Kiels products and a great steam room. There's also a fantastic salt water lap pool. If they just had a sun deck and outdoor pool, this would be a destination location. Worth every penny.

I have been to many gyms overall and many equinox locations and let me tell you, this one is the best! And I’m comparing to locations in NY on 63rd and WTC, WeHo in West Hollywood, Brickell and Brickell Heights in Miami and Merrick Park in Coral Gables.
This is why this location is the best:
1. They have all equipment anyone could ever need and it is always well maintained
2. They have all accessories: bands, ankle weights, jumping ropes, fitness balls of all colors and sizes
3. The way the machines are set up on the floor actually makes sense instead of being random and you don’t have to play “where is Waldo” looking for a machine you need.
4. The trainers are great
5. The management is great
6. The front desk is great
7. This location has a shop which I personally like
8. The facility is clean

I am moving to Miami now and I wish I could take this gym with me! Thank you for great two years!

I was a member of the Equinox in Summit prior to my wedding in October of 2015. I loved it before my wedding, but then it started to go downhill. The classes were at odd times, instructors weren’t as great as they were in the beginning and I just felt like I wasn’t as excited to go. I took a break from it, and decided to give it another try towards the end of February 2018. I am very happy with my experiences lately. The classes I’ve attended are all really great, the trainer I’ve worked with (Rob Lolatte) has been very helpful and motivating, getting me back into the gym after having a baby, and overall it has just been a great experience. I hope that the positive experiences I’ve had in the past few weeks continue. It is a little pricier than some gyms, but I do truly feel you get a lot for your money.

Not bad, not great. Probably leaning to slightly below average. It just does not feel like an Equinox compared to other locations. It is cramped, several machines are aged, staff generally OK...the combination does not make this place scream Equinox - it is more like “Any Joe’s Gym”

I have been a member of this gym for a little over a year. I gotta say that I fell in love with this location at first...then it went downhill for a moment...however, the GM of this location was responsive to my comments and now I love this gym again. I have to say that it has a great layout and it has all the machines you may need. I have been to other locations one of them is in WeHo but nearly as good as this one.

Quite happy with this gym. The floor trainers and personal trainers (I work out with Tori Zuber every once in a while) are really great.

Not sure why a lot of these comments are so negative. It's a great gym with a very helpful staff. I've also always gotten quick responses from managers when I've needed assistance with something. I've been a member for 1+ years and I still love going! If you're looking to join a gym in this area, Equinox is definitely the best choice.

I've been a member for 4 - 5 years. I honestly have never experienced the issues I've just read in the complaints. I've found the local management and staff to be of the highest quality. I always get extremely helpful responses to any issues that arise. Admittedly, I have not tried to cancel my membership and maybe that process is a problem. But as far as ongoing membership is concerned, this is the best fitness club I've ever experienced.

Not sure why everyone is so pissed about this place. It's great. Instructors are awesome, good staff, etc.

I never write reviews but...wow...they forced my hand! I've been a member of Equinox since 2010- first in NYC at Rock Center and now at both Columbus Ave and Summit. In the Summit location, I've come to learn that the GM is almost bizarrely unresponsive to any problems we've encountered. Need some quick help getting your child's membership cancelled when he goes off to school? Sorry- that's gonna take 4 months. Expect proper maintenance when 2 of 3 stationary bikes break down? Sorry, months will pass before you're back on that bike. Expect a reply to an email requesting clarification of cell phone rules? Nope. Not gonna happen. Someone at corporate should really insist that this guy get some remedial training in basic customer service and communication. The rest of the staff is friendly; trainers seem caring and competent. I'll stay a member in Manhattan, but the minute a better option to Summit comes up, I'm outta there!

Compared to all the Equinox gyms in the city, this one in Summit beats them all. It's cleaner, the equipment is well kept, and it doesn't get outrageously crowded - unlike the city. The locker rooms are clean and the showers are actually sanitary. Finally the $220/month seems almost worth it.

The equipment is pretty standard, it's essentially the same as you'd see in any other gym. In fact, I thought it was a little outdated as compared with the gym that I currently go to but I'm sure it gets the job done. There is also a day care, physical therapy, coat check, juice bar, classes, and personal training. Of course, this all comes at a price which is quite hefty as compared with the average gym,

You have to be careful with Equinox. I have tried canceling over three times and I finally found out i need to have a notary validate the cancellation letter. When I tried to get this processed the manager was conveniently not in each time I tried to get it processed. STAY away. Terrible company protocols.

Bare bones. Definitely not even close to the Equinox locations in NYC or Boston. It's a shame they charge the same price as other and much nicer locations.
When a machine at the nicer Equinoxes breaks down, they are sent to Summit

I dislike this gym so much, it's hard to give any stars. I don't write reviews and I never take what i read to heart. i feel your opinion is your opinion.. why should it sway me one way or another??
That being said... as an avid gym and class enthusiast, this place is the worst! I do pilates, soul cycle, pure barre and hot yoga - so I know my way around a gym and can keep up with any class.
This gym isn't a 'gym' at all, but rather a large personal training facility! If this is what you're looking for- good for you, this is your place! Everyone there, and I mean EVERYONE there, either takes a class, or trains with a trainer. You are not encouraged or welcome to use free weights- ever! I have been asked every time I go there (I average a whopping 2/3x a month) to 'jump out' so that the trainer can finish their rotation and not have to wait. SERIOUSLY???? I guess my rhythm and sequence doesn't much matter!?
As for what another reviewer said.. day passes are impossible! I have been a member (or rather a contributor because as I say, I hate it and never go!) for over two years. Not one pass for a guest- not one!
I remain a member because I enjoy going with my husband, on the rare occasion he's home at night (he goes to Equinox at another location that he likes).
No passes, terrible camaraderie on the floor and an overall feeling like I don't belong - makes this place a thumbs down for sure!
(Don't make me start on the parking - or lack there of !!!!!)

As a starting point, i am a man in his mid 20's whose trained for years in martial arts, soccer, calisthenics, kettle bells, and am in relatively good shape for someone my age.

I have been a member for 1+ years and I would not suggest this place to anyone (unless you have money to spend and are desperate to break away from whatever gym you are at). Let me first off by stating that this gym and business practice's are poorly run. In order to join you must sign up for one year paying 156 (the membership fee has gone up since then) dollars a month, and the tag line for this contract is "A dedication to fitness" Actually it's more like a dedication to filling this gym's pockets. The only way (get this) you can get out of the contract without paying a cancellation fee is either through pregnancy, injury or you move 25+ miles away! Getting out of equinox (assuming you somehow get through the year w.o cancelling or other aforementioned items) there's a 45 day notice you must fill out with the gym before they terminate your membership, which is god awfully long for something most people can do using computers these days, and then you still have to pay them for the month +15 days! When you fill out this gym's satisfaction survey, the GM and assistant GM are kind enough to email you back and ask why is it you are unhappy with your membership but whatever you say doesn't matter cause they just apologize nod and say they will try to fix it but they never do, they're also for some reason addicted to have you call them, i don't know why..... The classes could be better and most classes cater to the casual gym go-er, not someone who is dedicated to really pushing their limits. Most instructors say you can come to them and offer suggestions but that too falls on deaf ears. The gym caters too much to quantity of people in the classes not quality of classes. Private sessions (which range from 84 -111 dollars depending upon the "tier" trainer you have and how many sessions you buy with them) with trainers cost an arm and a leg on top of the 156 they charge per month, and don't even get me started on the spa costs. Parking at this gym is atrocious since people park in front of the entrance way (which aren't parking spots) and not in parking spots due to a sense of entitlement, and are never punished. If you ever get to know some of the gym go-ers well enough, odds are you will find that they all have 1-2 complaints about this gym and how it's run.

The only few redeeming factors about this gym (hence why i didn't give it a 1 star) are that there are a few (i can count on one hand) classes that give you a great work out and the club does try to push a sense of community/networking, which is why i stayed the +1 years. However, that really isn't enough to justify the cost of the gym(which they really should offer members a break down in the prices). To be fair this isn't like the other equinoxes in NYC (which i have visited as well), and this review is exclusively for this facility.

I was very disappointed that the gym didn't allow day passes. I was in town for a wedding and was looking to work out. It has never been my experience that there isn't a policy to pay a nominal fee to use a gym for the day. I don't understand how this makes sense if you want to try the facility before joining.
