Jon Messner was 17 when he was in a car accident and knee surgery seemed inevitable.

Jon read books on strength training, physical therapy and functional anatomy. Jon discovered knee tendinosis may be the result of weak muscles and started strength training and his knees felt better.

Jon opened Messner Strength Training in 2011, and he has more than 25,000 hours training moms, dads, grandparents, high school athletes and college athletes.

Jon has a Masters degree in kinesiology and he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

I am not a crazy, dedicated athlete. I have always struggled with my weight. I rarely worked out and when i did, i thought it was all about lifting weights and sweating! I was a busy, working mom just trying to not feel so run down. I met Jon about 20 years ago when he was a trainer at a local gym. He was never about crazy cardio and “no pain no gain”. He was about function and proper alignment and technique. Id love to say that i stuck with him- i moved on, thought i could do just as well by myself- i was busy, after all! I always ended up back.
Im now 54, having suffered a serious injury and i can honestly say that without Jons guidance and training, i would have ended up with surgery and likely not walking without pain. My core is strong and with Jon’s exercises, i can feel the difference EVERY DAY.
This is not a magical pill but dedication to wanting to feel better and be better. I have a lot of life left and with Jon, I can make it healthy and strong- not weak and deflated! Thankyou Jon for all that you have done, i truly appreciate you!

My name is Sue. I am a long time resident of Brielle. As I've gotten older doctors have stressed the importance of bone strength. I have been going to the Messner Strength Training gym for a little over two years now. Jon is great! He focuses on posture, balance, and of course very personalized strength training exercises. I’ve been a competitive runner almost my whole life. I’ve suffered through a lot of injuries and was about to call it quits, until I met Jon. He started me on an individualized program to fix my dysfunctions and now I can say I am running and doing daily life activities with no pain. Jon didn’t just “treat” my symptoms, he found the root of my problems and was able to help me overcome them. You can tell that Jon is really passionate about what he does for a living which makes the atmosphere of his gym a really fun place to be. Jon’s gym is never crowded, and he is constantly coaching. The strength training programs are individualized and challenging, and I always leave the gym feeling better. I had back pain most of my life. I consistently use chiropractic care for 25 years and even though the pain would return a few days after each visit, the manipulations were the only treatment that gave me temporary relief. In 2005, I was diagnosed with multiple discs bulging and L4/L5 herniation. When I was 48 I met Jon. He told me that back pain was caused by weak glutes muscles. I didn’t believe him that it was this simple, but after two months of core training and stretching, my pain was gone! Thank you, Jon!
