It hasn’t been a month since I’ve joined King Strength in Metuchen. I already feel at home. The staff here, Alex, Iman and Steve have been incredible coaches. They motivate, push you and most importantly they empower you. If you’re concerned about joining a gym because of culture or if you have any anxiety about joining a gym, just walk in here! They are all great people who truly care and you can feel it. I love it here and I’m so glad I joined. Welcoming atmposhere, encouraging and just straight up good people. Love this place!!!! Stumbled across King through ClassPass. I feel like I’ve found a community in just the past two days. Amazing people, great workouts, and a whole lot of motivation! Truly a great place to feel good and burn it out (be ready for the challenges)!! I’ve burned an average of 450 calories in just the two classes I took. I recently joined King. It can be very intimidating going to the gym. I was very impressed how comfortable they made me feel. All the trainers are super helpful and very encouraging. ⚠️ TL;DR: Extremely unprofessional coach – think twice before signing up here.
I paid for 1-on-1 private sessions, but within just three sessions, I experienced:
1. Three last-minute reschedules, twice because he had to “cover for another coach”—even though I was a paying private client.
2. Sessions consistently shorter than promised: only 34, 42, and 50 minutes, with warm-up bike time eating into each.
3. No personalization despite handing him two pages of detailed goals and background—ignored completely.
4. Lack of attention: chatting mid-session, not counting reps, rarely correcting form.
👉 If this is how they treat private clients, I can’t imagine how little attention the semi-private and group class members get.

My experience in detail:
Session 1 (34 mins):
• He moved it last minute from morning to afternoon—likely double-booked.
• I handed him a printed summary of my goals and background. He barely looked at it.
• After 3-min bike time, immediately threw me into 3x12 kettlebell and dumbbell sets.
• I struggled with breathing and form to finish those 3x12; no correction was offered.
• When I said I was near my limit, he ended the session early. No cool-down, feedback, or guidance.
I texted him afterward. He replied, “First week is for calibration.” I gave him another chance.

Session 2 (43 mins):
• Slightly better—he mentioned breathing—but mostly distracted, chatting with others while I trained.

Session 3 (50 mins):
• The only session that lasted the full duration, but included 6 mins on the bike.
• Still distracted, very little programming logic, adjustments, or real engagement.

Session 4 (never happened):
• Originally set for last Friday, canceled 30 mins prior—said he had to cover for another trainer.
• Rescheduled to Tuesday (today). Canceled again this morning—same short notice, same excuse.
• That made it 3 cancellations in 4 scheduled sessions. I was never late or absent.

💰 What am I paying $110/session for?
• If I just wanted someone to watch while I lifted weights or counted reps, free YouTube videos would be more useful (he didn’t even count reps).
• If I wanted remote form correction and programming, my previous online coach charged just $25 per session and provided:
• Video tutorials before every session
• Live form correction
• Session debrief and progress tracking
• Even modern AI apps are more responsive, structured, and helpful than what I got here.

🚫 This isn’t a matter of “style,” it’s a lack of professionalism
I’ve worked with private coaches before and understand that different coaches have different styles. This is not about style — it’s about the complete absence of responsibility, structure, and basic professional standards:
• No prep before sessions
• No use of client-provided materials
• No attention to actual physical capacity or form
• No rep tracking or progression
• No respect for schedule or training continuity
It felt like the coach was just “getting it over with.” I wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone.

I have been going to King Strength in Cranford for a little over a month now and I absolutely love this place! Everything from the facilities, to the programming, and probably the most important, the community of coaches and members, are incredibly wonderful and supportive. I've been in the fitness space for about 10 years now, and every coach I've had the pleasure of taking a class with at this facility continues to push me and teach me new things. I've been a member of King Strength since November 2023 and it has been an amazing experience. I joined to build muscle, strength and endurance as a mid-40s woman who was losing all three slowly. I have gotten so much stronger and the pain I've had in my hip and back since I was a teenager is gone from strengthening all the supporting muscles and focusing on good form. All of this is possible through King's excellent programming and knowledgable trainers, and a sense of community at the gym with staff and other members. I look forward to going both for my workout and for the community. I highly recommend!

I can't rate King highly enough. The program genuinely works. I am generally quite uncoordinated and struggle with new physical movements, and the coaches here have been extremely patient and helpful in fixing my various errors. Moreover, after three months in the program, I have noticed genuine quality of life improvements--it's less strain to lift multiple kids at a time, for example, than it was before I started.
I hadn't gone to a gym in 7 years, and I'm very glad I picked this one.

This gym is only for advanced pro level people. They only have strength training, which I liked and that’s why we went in the first place.
We were recommended this gym by a very dear friend who speaks highly of this gym. But she is a pro.
We went and there was an initial assessment. Assessment is a set of exercise they ask you to do. They only ask if we had any injuries, for which we said no. And our first exercise was TRAPBAR DEADLIFT (with 65 pounds). And then couple of more.
After the assessment, as per the website they are supposed to recommend if we are suited for their group class or not. They told us we are good for group class. But we told them that we are beginners and wanted to focus on right form, so they said we can take one SPT per week along with group class.
They have two types of classes - group class and semi private training (SPT), for which we were not able to figure out the difference. For the time we used to go they had same number of people in both types. Even the attention was same and there was no added advantage in SPT. Just charging way more for SPT.
They don’t have any Personalised plan for anyone. They have a set program for everyday which is uploaded on the app, you go to the gym after you book a class (even after paying the membership) and then follow the program from your phone. If you have any questions/concerns the trainer on the floor will address that. I told them my body is stiff and it’s way too hard for me, they kept on saying you will get there. And just after two classes I sprained my back. I wasn’t even able to walk properly. When I complained to them in the next session, they said someone name ERIC will call me to see me but that never happened. Me and my husband wasted $500 for 4 SPT session (we took only two and then this happened). And their amazing customer service is they are not even apologetic for the way they have behaved. When I asked for refund saying that it’s just 2 sessions we took and now my back is not well, I can’t take more session. The person replies on message (doesn’t have even courtesy to call and check) use it or lose it. SO DAMN RUDE!!!!! I would never recommend this to anyone.

I really love the programming here! This is completely different than any other gym in the area. No HIIT….no CrossFit. This is a focused strength training program. Every 4 weeks there is a new strength block. I love tracking my progress throughout each 4 week program and being exposed to a variety of training methods. My mind (and body) never get bored!

They keep things interesting and they are very helpful. The other clients are fun at motivating as well. Carrying my kids has never been easier, and the continuous progress is very rewarding. So far have been loving my experience at King Strength ! Love that they incorporate components of pre-hab and mobility to prevent injuries . I’m a physical therapist and this is the only gym I’ve ever experienced that is mindful of the importance of accessory work, mobility, and core to supplement the weight training. The coaches (shout out Kelly & Eric) are also super knowledgeable and helpful and having an app to guide me throughout the session has been a game changer for me as well , highly recommend!!!

I had popped into King in Metuchen about 2 years ago to try it, went and did other things fitness wise and then came back Fall 2023. I have had some recent health things and changes to my fitness journey overall and King with its supportive coaches and staff, have helped me get back into it. I am growing again as an athlete and it doesn’t hurt it’s only a few minutes from my home. Take class here, it’s more than just a gym and you won’t regret it.

I joined King in February of last year. I have several injuries/surgeries to my shoulder. With that history I was very reluctant to get back into any type of training. King’s focus on building strength while avoiding injury was honestly one of the best things I have done for my health.
In the last year of training I have improved my strength, mobility and stamina dramatically. Starting at King I could barely bench at 135, today I’m benching 245. My squats were at 180 and proud to say my PR is 315.
All the trainers I have worked with are amazing and incredibly knowledgeable. Although I do need to give a shout out to Abby and Eric for amazing instruction. I honestly love King and would recommend to anyone that is looking to make a positive change in their life.

I started at King’s in June 2023, after not really doing any exercise at all since like, 2018. I feel stronger and less sore, which is really nice. As someone who has always been afraid of “the gym” in all capacities, I decided on a whim to take a leap and sign up for a consultation at King without knowing anything about the philosophy. And I’m so glad I did!
King is different. The immediate kindness and understanding you’re met with here is unparalleled. All of the wonderful trainers are so knowledgeable, supportive, and fun (truly, they’ll whip you into shape but will also make you laugh so hard you’ll cry). The other members match that positive energy, too! I was trepidatious at first, but it’s because of this community I’ve grown out of my intense fear of the gym.
Obviously I’ve never been a consistent gym-goer prior to King, but I’ve been a member since August ‘23 and can say that their tagline, “Consistency is King” is accurate. The team here has helped me grow my confidence immensely, and has trained me already to lift more than I thought was possible. When I started I couldn’t bench the 45lb bar - a few months later and I’m at 85lb! And back squating - I started at 65lbs and am now consistently at 160lbs!
Whether it’s been semi-private training (SPT) or regular classes, I’ve always left the gym feeling grateful I joined. If you’re curious, even if you’re a little nervous, go for it! Everyone will be cheering you on at King.

I've been coming to King since end of May and attended both semi-private and group classes. I can't say enough great things about this gym.
The community is exception - There are all different levels of experience yet you receive equal amounts of encouragement. Outside the gym, they host annual social events and popups. The constant support for each other is truly amazing.
The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and motivating. I never benched more than 15lbs in my life and in 5 months, they helped push me to hit 100lbs. No more noodle arms, yay!

Now that I am retired I joined King Strength in March 2023. My goal was to get stronger to do the things I like and not win any power lifting comps. Twice this spring I said to myself “thank you King Strength!” Once was during a hike in Maine when our elderly 40 lb dog had to be carried up over and around an unexpected rock scramble. The second was in upstate NY when (two different times actually) we had to hike down a 1/2 mile steep hill to the bottom of a chasm. We then fished all day and then we had to walk up and out the same way. My legs and balance were more than up for the challenge! Don’t be intimidated by the workouts. The staff at King Strength is knowledgeable, respectful, and works with you to your comfort level.

When I moved to this area I was so worried I wouldn't be able to find a gym and fitness community that could live up to my previous experience when living in Jersey City. Luckily, I found King Strength and Performance!
I have been frequenting the Metuchen location since they opened and they have been fundamental to my health- not only physically, but mentally. The entire team is friendly, knowledgable, flexible, and just a joy to be around. Each individual has been essential to the new steps I have been navigating in my fitness journey- recovering postpartum and experiencing a second pregnancy - and I am so thankful to be able to turn to them in these moments. It is reassuring to know they will also be there as I continue to come back after pregnancy and beyond!
There is something so special and different about a fitness environment where people know you, your goals, know about your personal life, and truly care - even when you are in a group setting. The trainers know when to push, they know when to educate/adjust, and they are always cheering you on.
The cherry on top is the other members. No matter where you are starting in terms of fitness level, the camaraderie is always there. I have probably attended each class time at least once and I never feel out of place - everyone is so welcoming and on the same page.

I joined this gym six months ago, a bit intimidated and wondering if I could keep up. I had strength trained prior to joining, but after having a major surgery, my confidence was down. Could I do this? I wanted and needed change after working out at home for so long. Happy to see that joining King was the best decision I’ve made in a very long time! I can’t say enough about how much coming here has impacted my confidence and life. I’m happier and my outlook has changed a lot. Yes— a gym can do that! It doesn’t matter if you’re a bodybuilder or haven’t lifted a penny… King will get you to where you want to go— depending on your own unique needs. The workouts are varied, effective and actually work! I’ve made huge gains in just six months. I’d never have done it on my own. The trainers know what they’re talking about and actually care about you as a person. Everyone is wonderful, but Abby, Eric and TBone have been absolute rockstars. When my mom died a few months ago, everyone supported me in the best way way possible. The people here are also really nice. Everyone is welcome. Egos don’t live here. Come and try it out! Join now!! I am a breast cancer survivor and have limitations to my workouts due to surgeries during my treatments. I initially thought I would never be able to join a gym with group training again, and then I found KING. To say they care about you, your health and progress is an understatement. I started with their classes in September and can now lift 3xs the amount I started with and on top of that I keep improving with functionality & conditioning. My body also feels stronger and fresher with daily activities. The staff is amazing, Abby, Tbone, Denise, Eric, Gerrick, etc are not your normal coaches. I've been doing semi-private training sessions with T-Bone for about three months now and have had a great experience! He plans out the workouts and is incredibly patient with me and all my million questions. Most importantly he has been very careful to make sure everything is safe for me, both in checking (and improving) my form, designing workouts around my shoulder issues and recommending/communicating with Tri-Pro physical therapy. I joined King Strength and Performance in January 2022. It is one of the best gyms I’ve had the privilege of going to, for several reasons.
-The workouts are efficient, practical, and challenging. More importantly, they are tailored to people of all different fitness levels, ages, and backgrounds.
-The gym follows a class format. The gym’s smartphone app allows you to effortlessly book the class time of your choosing. The times range from as early as 5am to as late as 7pm. I have never enjoyed going to a gym after work and seeing all the machines taken up and having to wait until someone finishes. The class format ensures that equipment and capacity issues are never a concern. All you need to do is show up and be ready to work.
-The biggest reason, which is closely associated with the first two, is the staff. The trainers and staff of King are highly professional and qualified. Perhaps more importantly, they are friendly, accommodating, and are instrumental in creating an environment where anyone can feel comfortable and safe exercising and getting stronger.
I would recommend King Strength and Performance to almost anyone, from people who are just starting their fitness journey, to people who are recovering from injuries, to people who are looking for advanced programming.

I started at King's Metuchen location in May 2022. It took a lot for me to gather courage and find motivation to show up for my 1st session but I am so glad that I made that effort. Abby and Tbone really made me feel right at home. Each and every trainer are so kind and friendly that I couldn't stay away and I signed up for daily classes.
I love the group classes they offer as well as the semi private sessions. I enjoy coming to the gym and feel great after completing each session. No matter which trainer is there, they will always encourage you and help you push through the workouts. And the best part, they are so welcoming to my son who loves to be there while I workout. This a plus for any parent who often times can't do things because there is no childcare.

Rob quickly eliminated any thoughts of doubt at my assessment. Each and every trainer at KING is beyond knowledgeable, experienced & encouraging. I’ve been a member with King since they first opened in 2018. I used to drive 30-40 min all the way to Cranford, their flagship location, from my home/office. Once they opened up the Metuchen location, it was a no brainer for me to switch locations closer to home. The class programming is solid and I love how the coaches and also TrainHeroic (the app we use to track our lift weights & reps/sets) push you to lift heavier. The coaches have always been so helpful with form and technique and make you feel more confident while you’re in class. The curation of members is what I find unique. The sense of community and kin, especially when you come consistently to class, truly drew me to love King! I’ve always been someone who just wanted to work out, not talk to anyone, then leave. But once I joined King, I didn’t realize how much I loved coming to the gym & working out just because I had support from my gym peers! I’ve been a member for 4 years and I have to say, this is the most consistent I’ve ever been with lifting (and I actually enjoy it too!). There are many reasons why King is set apart from conventional gyms. But one of them is that you don’t have gym snobs and equipment hogs! Class times are awesome because while it keeps you consistent, you don’t have to prolong your gym stay waiting for weights/barbells to free up. Highly recommend King Metuchen (and any other of their locations) if you’re looking for consistency with working on your strength and you don’t want to worry about programming your workouts!

I’ve been with KING since it first opened in Cranford and I am now in the Metuchen location. I go to the 5:00a class and have popped in other times in the morning, and the vibe and energy each time I go is always positive.
The team at KING is an awesome group who cares about each and every member. They ensure our form is effective and will provide us the “why” to an exercise. With my background in physical therapy, this is essential.
KING’s purpose is more than just being a place to work out but about being a community. And watching the community grow since the beginning and observing the friendships built amongst its members, you can tell KING is more than just a gym.

Good people do things for other people. This is the first thing you will notice about King and how that sets them apart from other gyms. Each trainer is knowledgeable, supportive and makes every session/class feel safe. Whether you train in a group class or semi/personal training- you will never have the “cookie cutter” experience. Every trainer cares about You. They want to know your goals and challenges so that they can help you achieve what you want for yourself.

I joined this gym about half a year ago and I’ve been living my best life! My motivation to start strength training was to get stronger for my kids. My young toddlers are only getting bigger and I wanted to be able to pick them up and run around without feeling like I was gonna get injured.
I really enjoy coming to the gym to learn new exercises and interact with the trainers. I’ve been working with mostly Abby. She’s been a real rockstar in encouraging me and believing in my ability to push through my workouts. I’ve worked with a few other trainers and they’re all really great!
One other thing I absolutely adore about this gym, is the sense of community. They plan fun activities to bring the members together like beach day, Halloween themed deadlift challenge (day of the deadlift), and the annual Gym Prom. It’s been a really fun experience being part of this gym. You definitely won’t regret joining this gym!

I’ve been a member at King Strength and Performance since it opened in Cranford. I used to take the 30 min drive round trip from Jersey City, but didn’t care because it was always totally worth it! Fast forward 4 years and I now have a toddler and moved to the burbs in South Plainfield. I couldn’t have been more thrilled when the Metuchen location opened and is now a 7 min commute! The trainers have all been great in helping me to keep my toddler entertained on days when I need a workout but can’t find childcare. To say that I love this place is an understatement.

From a recommendation, I checked out their website and decided to join in November 2021. Since then I have lost over 50 lbs, I am as strong as I have ever been, and I am as flexible I ever have been.
The workout programming at King's is excellent. The programs are balanced and are derived from renown strength training methodologies.
The programs are supported by warm-up and mobility work that increases your flexibility and protects you from injury.
The class environment also provides great energy and motivation.
My experience at both locations has been incredible and I would highly recommend this gym if you want a balanced fitness program that will enhance your strength, conditioning, and flexibility/mobility.

Each month the Kings come up with a challenging and fun program that lets you test your strength. mobility and technique that want you to remain consistent with it. its NOT about how much you sweat here. Trainers are all A+ who bring their own color to the gym and focus on your overall performance, tips and some game changing techniques - very impressive! (I was surprised when one of them remembered exactly how much I benched last week lol). Pro tip: Spare a few extra $ for the merch lol. they have one of the coolest sweats and tees.

The trainers at Kings have managed to create programs that are tailored for everyone, regardless of age and fitness level.
