I’ve been a member of LA Fitness for a while, but my recent experience at the Brick location left me seriously disappointed—specifically because of how the manager, Rodney, handled a simple situation.

I accidentally dropped my car keys (which also have my house keys) inside one of the StairMaster machines. I went to the front desk for help. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the front desk employee’s name, but I’m pretty sure he’s new since I’ve been a member for a long time and I haven’t seen him before. Still, he genuinely tried to help and admitted he wasn’t familiar with how to open the machine. He then escalated the issue to the manager.

The moment Rodney spoke to me; his tone immediately made it seem like the whole situation was my fault. Without even coming out to look at the machine or assess anything, he confidently told me I’d have to wait a week until their technician was available. No attempt to understand the situation, no empathy, no effort—just “come back in a week.”

At that point, I realized I wasn’t going to get any real help, so I started searching up ways to disassemble the machine myself. Then, out of nowhere, Rodney suddenly walked over and switched to this overly polite tone—as if he had just realized how unprofessional he sounded earlier. It felt insincere and honestly frustrating.

The lack of professionalism, empathy, and basic problem-solving from the manager was shocking. The front desk staffer was more helpful than the person who’s supposed to be leading the location.

LA Fitness, please train your managers better. Customers shouldn’t be treated like an inconvenience—especially when they need help with something that happened inside your facility.

The overall facility is worth 4 stars. That said, the Men's Locker Room area is un clean. The sink area near the lockers are in ok condition. The rear bathroom area near the showers are filthy and have been for the years I've been a member there. The Urinal/Stall area should be cleaned atleast once a day, if not twice. I'm sure some local bars have cleaner bathrooms....

I just moved from another state into New Jersey and went into this location to trial this gym— and it was denied at the door (with the QR code).

I spoke with LA Fitness (Corporate) and the Tom’s River location; both said I can trial the gym…

Ariel and Alexandra are incredibly welcoming and kind. Rodney, not so much nor was he willing to support a new local member. Very strange experience.

Either way, grateful to see beforehand as it’s not the atmosphere I’d like to be in especially when working out.

Now reading through the other reviews, I am seeing others have experienced the same in their own way. I’m surprised LA keeps him there with their brand being so known and leading.

I really enjoy being a member at LA Fitness! The variety of classes is excellent, and the instructors make every workout fun and motivating. I’ve made some great friendships through the classes, and the staff are always friendly, professional, and welcoming. It could be a good gym if preventative maintenance were regularly performed. Hot water is frequently unavailable and for long periods. The grips on most machines are overly worn or torn. It's somewhat clean. Stair climbers are often not working.

Nice facilities and staff. Except for one salesman. You'll know who he is. Obviously juiced to the gills, bald, and walks like it hurts. Ask for someone else. Also, rude people in the locker rooms and saunas, often. Otherwise a good gym for someone looking to go 2-3 times a week. Watch out for hidden fees and "I'm helping you out here's a deal" speeches. Also, people almost never clean their machines. Pretty gross. I left after making good progress because of the things I mentioned.

If I can give a negative star, I would!! The staff racially profiles from the moment you walk in. My 21yr old son registered for the free trial and was excited to start a workout routine and heard the Brick location had it all. Unfortunately, he was turned away as soon as he walked through the door. He was dressed in basketball attire and yet was told he wasn't in gym attire - same way you can't tell a religious person to take off their head covering, you can't tell someone they aren't in gym attire. He was told to pay or leave before they call the cops. They disregarded the free trial pass and threatened him for asking questions. 1000% if I went in with him, there wouldn't have been a problem. This is just sad and disgraceful!! The staff should get reported and fired!

Functional and clean gym. However 50% of the tvs are constantly not working, the Lifefitness treadmills need to be replaced. When you walk or run on them, you feel ridges and pebbles like discomfort under your feet.

This is completely unacceptable for a fitness center in july. It's going on 4 weeks now that the air conditioning system is down. None of the staff have any information at all as to when it will be repaired. People have literally passed out inside the gym.

It's not so much the gym itself, it's the clientele that works out here. There is zero gym etiquette. People literally sit on the machines and watch netflix, YouTube, tik tok for 10 minutes straight. I literally go up to people on machines and I asked them how many more sets of text messages do you have? The management really needs to crack down on this because you can't even work out anymore. Forget if you're trying to super set.. you literally can't go on machines an because people are FaceTiming their friends.

As a senior who has been to many gyms over the last 50 years, I don't understand why so many people complain about this gym. I've been to many LA fitness gyms both in NJ and FL and this gym is better than average due to the sauna. People who expect a gym to be as clean as a hospital room and smell like roses are delusional. For $30/month this gym is a good value. If you want a wonderful high-end gym be prepared to pay over $100/month.

Equipment is alright but the cleanliness of the locker rooms and saunas are absolutely appalling. It smells like a burst sewage pipe and the sauna doesn't have a functioning drain so your constantly stomping around in others sweat. It's a health hazard and should have been addressed when they got the sauna redone. It was working perfectly fine until they went and redid the entire floor. Now the drain is the highest point which makes it useless. Absolutely despicable craftsmanship.

Really wish I could find another gym in Brick that has a decent class schedule with instructors that actually interact with the class etc. I look around and there are people with poor form and the instructor doesn’t notice because she has her back to the class the whole time. There are a few exceptions but the good ones only teach one class. I guess if you just want to use equipment the gym is fine but I joined for the classes.

For being a signature club you definitely get ripped off here. The steam room always smells and the door doesnt like to stay at a neutral/closed position so youre at the door for a minute like an idiot just trying to hold the door in the spot where itll leak out the least heat before you either get to sit in there or get out with respect to others still in the room. The showers are not great either, again for it being a signature club. The pool is always poorly maintained and overall there isn't enough actual gym equipment - nearly half the gym is just cardio compared to what feels like normally a third in their other locations.

Just joined today and my experience with the manager, Rodney, was fantastic. I was trying to sign up online with a deal my husband had gotten on his email for two days. Something seemed to be wrong with the server. Rodney made a couple of phone calls and got it done in five minutes. Then as he walked me to the desk, he got to know me a little bit and gave me some valuable advice on fitness. He said to talk to him any time. I’m very excited to get started at LA Fitness of Brick!

It looks like they may have hired someone to clean the gym. The urinals have been cleaned and no longer smell like a subway. The sauna while still dirty doesn’t have as many layers of dirt.

There is hope! I guess I should be grateful for the nasty because the gym itself is beautiful and even with it being dirty it still gets very crowded.
The gym itself is amazing with great equipment.It looks like they could care less about how clean it is. I find my coming infrequently because it’s disgusting.

It’s been good inspiration to get a sauna at home. That’s the only reason I come to this location but to walk in to this mess at 515 am is just sad like they don’t care at all.

Their holiday hours are the absolute worst!! 🤬 To preface: the gym opens at 5am M-F and 8am on S-S (which is annoying as well, at least make it 6:30am please). The only time I can get there based on my schedule is the early AM hours. Yet on holidays during the week for example this coming Christmas Eve. Instead of 5am-12:00pm they do 8:00am-12:00pm… This is a gym, it is supposed to better people yet how is anyone supposed to do that with that schedule, especially early birds. I’m still at work and majority of people do not have off on Christmas Eve. Between the holiday hours and weekends this is getting old. Another club might be next for me. Please look at reevaluating the hours on the weekend and holidays. Thank you.

Unfortunately the gym is quite dirty but that’s not even the most important to me. But there is a dark black curly haired girl that works the nights and tries to force me out of the gym RIGHT at 11 when they close and originally she was very nice. But now she has a very bad attitude when she always said it’s okay it’s only 5 min after, not a big deal so I can finish up in the sauna. I’m rarely even here because of work, but she has to make my experience unpleasant and uncomfortable. I don’t know why she needs to be rude when she can just kindly ask me to leave when I have never given her an ounce of hostility. But her tone is terrible. I’ve been a member with LA for 10 years and I’ve never had someone on staff be so rude. It truly makes me not want to come back.

I’m an active duty soldier who travels home for the holidays. There are local gyms that try to charge me rates that aren’t feasible considering my short stay. At LA Fitness, I was greeted by Deshan. He was super kind, helpful, and friendly. He was also able to work a deal that allowed me to use the facility without charging me all those extra fees. I’m very thankful to Deshan and his team at LA for helping me out. Working out is important to me, personally, and professionally.
