I went with my partner using a three-day free pass, and the experience was awful from the beginning. The staff member asked for ID, and since I didn’t have mine, he completely stopped acknowledging me. He didn’t look at me, didn’t explain anything, and basically ignored my presence the entire time.
The gym is big, but honestly disappointing lots of cardio machines but very few of the equipment we were actually looking for.
The worst part was that, at the end, without even looking me in the eyes, the same staff member told me I had to pay for the day… something he could have mentioned from the start, which would’ve saved me the time and the bad experience.
I won’t be coming back. Terrible customer service

Just received a phone call at 4:28 pm Friday...the day after Thanksgiving....I wish I had gotten the name of this individual...but from the voice....young black male...im a new member....one time bench fitness and bench press champion...so when I told him I wont need the free training he was selling he hung up on me. This has to be one of the rudest interactions I have ever encountered from someone trying to sell a product in history and they should immediately separate themselves from this person or anyone on their staff who thinks this behavior is appropriate as a representation of what the LA fitness brand intends to present. Problem is..if this is standard practices and behaviors...so as long as you agree to purchase their products they'll be as kind as this individual was at the onset of our communication prior to my rejection. Instead of me searching to find this individual and lashing out I intend to make it my standard practice make to locate and train any client I see them attempt to sell training to... for free. ...and when I return I intent to also bring this person to the attention of the staff as I intend to rewrite this same exchange to present to their corporate administration.

Hello,
I came to LA Fitness on South Orange Avenue in Newark NJ, I did the day pass because I am a member if another gym, however, my dad was at the hospital and I really wanted to get my workout in, I went across the street to LA fitness and I spoke to Nate , he understood me and was super nice and friendly, he gave me the day pass and I was able to work out. I just want to day THANK YOU to Nate for being kind and letting me workout . I felt so good afterwards knowing that I got my workout in. I also felt comfortable, the members were friendly and helpful. Thank you again LA fitness for a wonderful experience. I know that I can count on you Guys again.

I had a terrible experience at this LA 2 days in 1 week. I was looking to find a gym with good group exercise classes so I went there to use a guest pass to try the classes they have. The sales manager Kalu was so disrespectful and rude he kept trying to push me to join when I continuously told him I wanted to try the classes first. He never activated my guest pass. The facility might be nice and other workers might be great but I’ll never know bc I will never go back. 1 star based off the terrible service.

Operations Manager, Jackie (black older woman), is unprofessional and bitter. She scolds other colleagues as if she is their mother in front of gym goers with no remorse. Managerial team is fully aware (based on previous complaints/reviews) and has accepted this sub-standard behavior as the face of L.A. Fitness Union NJ. I also peeped after every negative review, their gym is conveniently flooded with positive reviews to keep the stars above 4.

People hug 2 or 3 machines at the same time by placing a sweater or thermos. Others sit there (usually beginners or out of shape) to use their phone and don't care about others waiting. Other than that I'll give it an ok.

The machines are maintained and in good condition, Overall clean and well maintained

Big minuses here:
- not enough cages/ squat racks
- no sauna, I am really surprised about this, they have the pool but no sauna dry or wet. They really need to add that it was a reason for me to sign up for 24 hour fitness, I happen to be lucky to have access to both gym but when comparing the two next to each other this is really losing on these two points
