Joining MAX has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health, mindset, and overall lifestyle. I came in wanting to make a change, and just one month in, I already feel stronger, more energized, and more focused not just in the gym, but in life.
What really makes this place special is the people. The coaches genuinely care and push you in the best way, and the community feels like family. I’ve never felt judged only encouraged. Every class leaves me feeling accomplished, and I actually look forward to showing up (even at 5 a.m.!.

I started the challenge in January 25. I only planned to stay for the challenge and then do my own thing from what I learned from the challenge. I’m 6 months in and I can’t stop going. The group of people are so invited. Everyone is extremely friendly and we genuinely like each other. No competition, no dirty looks, no judgement. Awesome place to workout and get fit. 1 year and 3 months being part of the max family. I have lost 50 pounds and gain muscle mass. I joined the Max in Springfield/Union in 2018. One of the best decisions I made! The moment you walk in your part of this family you didn’t know you needed. Everyone knows your name! It’s like the show Cheers but a gym version 🩵!! The trainers are AMAZING and Amy and Allison are your biggest cheerleaders. They kept me motivated during my challenges when I felt like giving up. The Max helped me in so many unexpected ways. My normal class time was 930am, I went to that class regularly! After having kids my schedule changed drastically. Now I’m a 5AMER!! Never in my life would I have thought I’d be at gym at 5am. You gotta take a class with Joe and D!!! Joe and D know how to push you until think you can’t go anymore. The Max staff are all super friendly! I joined the Max for the 5 week summer challenge and it made working out more fun while giving me some fun, but healthy, recipes to try! Everyday we do something new and at the end of those 45 minutes, I feel better than when I walked in!

Stronger Than Yesterday (and My Pizza Cravings)
I wouldn't call myself a gym rat now, but I actually enjoy moving my body. The Max Challenge taught me exercises I could actually do, and how to push myself without feeling like I was gonna die. Great team and trainers. Joe always says just show up and I will take care of the rest. The class is high energy and when I walk out 45 minutes later, I feel amazing. Kamal goes hard with a smile on his face. D pushes you to the limit and then says EZ work with a smile. Every trainer brings a different energy, and that's what makes the class fun. Rena is a blessing and so supportive. They really are an all star team.

I’ve actually known of the Max Challenge for many years because my mom, aunt, family friends etc. were all members and loved it. I initially thought, eh not for me. Until one day I actually won 10 free weeks at the Max at a tricky tray. I’m not really sure how it happened because it was a total mistake lol but definitely a blessing in disguise. I thought maybe now I’ll give it a shot. Ever since then, I’ve been coming 4-5 days every week for the last 6-7 months. Of course I feel physically better because I’ve been moving my body more than ever, but I mostly feel mentally better. On days I don’t come, I’ve noticed my mind races and I never feel at ease. On the days that I do come, I feel accomplished, relaxed, and ready for my day. The only thing that keeps me coming back is that good mentality feeling. Shoutout to the 6a.m. class! They’re all a bonus to my experience!

I had a very positive experience at the Max. The instructors were fantastic, not to mention the entire staff. Everyone is generally very supportive and motivating. I would definitely recommend.
The only negatives:
When I was a member, the instructors often have you partner up with someone else. Since the clients are mostly women, I was partnered with a woman most of the time. Fine by me but if I were a woman, I wouldn't want some sweaty guy holding my ankles (in a typical exercise). Like I said, everyone is very friendly and supportive but it's probably awkward for someone to speak up if they're not comfortable with it. I'd rather just have everyone do their own thing without any partner stuff. I know it's not a big deal for everyone but I thought I'd mention it.

**I removed 2 stars from my review because of the continuing parking situation that ownership does nothing about. I recently observed a woman pushing her baby in a stroller trying to cross the street who couldn't see if there was traffic coming because the of car (an SUV, of course) parked illegally right in front of where the sidewalk leads out to the road. She had to maneuver sideways being careful just to peek a little because she had no visibility whatsoever. To put someone, not mention a mother and her baby, in this vulnerable position because someone doesn't want to walk an extra couple of hundred of feet is extremely selfish. I really wish ownership would stress the fact that there is *plenty* of parking in the area and you that you mustn't put others at risk at a busy intersection just because you don't feel like walking an extra minute.**

The other thing is that the owners really need to remind the members to park only in the designated areas instead of parking illegally. When the classes run, the entire street is full of cars. Since the clientele is mostly women who drive SUVs, it creates very poor visibility for the traffic that has to turn left from Pine to Morris Ave due to vehicles parked all the way up to the corner (past the point where they're supposed to park). There is a parking lot close by which the clients can use if they want to walk 5 more minutes (I mean, you're there for a workout, you can't walk a little bit?)
But overall a great place which I recommend. And they also made it very easy to cancel, which is a pretty big deal as far as gyms go.

The Max…where to begin? I’ve been a member for over 4-1/2 yrs & keep coming back for more daily. I love the atmosphere, the people, the staff, you name it…I love it. Every day is a “fun” day while working out. I look forward to getting on that mat & sweating out the crazy from my day. I do it for my mental health (or like I like to say, for my sanity). There’s just something about letting it all out & leaving it on that mat. The physical results, are also a plus lol. I started at the Max in person but then Covid hit and thankfully they started sending classes to us via zoom. I have kept up with the live and recorded sessions as it works for me. Love the energy of the instructors and the members who are in person at the center. I am glad they have kept the live and recorded sessions so it fits my lifestyle. They have a great staff and support all members. Their nutritional information is great and they walk you thru it whenever you need it.

I have been a member at the max since 2019 and it has been one of the BEST decisions I could have ever made for my health and overall well-being. The instructors, owners and staff are all super friendly, good hearted people. They truly care about your progress and help to support you every step of the way. It has been a true blessing to have stumbled upon this place. There’s also something to be said for completing a journey with other people. I love the community aspect. I have met so many friendly people in the max classes, each at different stages in their fitness journeys. They help modify exercises if necessary, they always keep the classes interesting and the music is always on point! I truly can’t say enough good things about this place. I have been with the Max for 5 years! I love having an instructor led class. The exercises are different every day so you are never bored with the workouts. And if you find an exercise challenging due to physical limitations the instructor works with you to do an alternative version of the exercise. The members welcome newcomers like family so you never feel out of place. Update for December 2022; Have still stuck with this program through 2022! So thankful still have option of daily video of a class posted to use for workouts. So helpful maintaining engagement as traveling and extended stays in other locations allows me to participate based on my schedule. The app helps you track yourself nutrition and workouts. The center provides hands on support and encouragement through daily sessions in person group workouts and nutrition guidance. Seeing the results for others continues to show the program works!
2021: COVID. Max challenge has continued to support everyone remote or in person, live zoom or video. Has continued to lead in safety precautions at studio, innovate. evolve and motivate - I have continued to use program to sustain my results. Max challenge integrated into ongoing behavior, nutrition. You will find once you use over long term, you will look healthier overall. Seeing friends and family again all comment on how healthier I look, skin looks great. Great program to get cardio and strengthening toning in 45 mins a day. Trainers, site manager and others in class really help support you. Nutritional program plus consistent activity gets results.

I joined the max 5 years ago. The max offers classes at many different times during the day so there are no excuses not to make a class. During Covid they quickly switched to zoom classes and it was very easy to do the class at home. The gym is clean and after every class it gets sanitized. The Max Challenge is a great place to set your New Year’s resolution of getting fit and eating right. You work out 5 days a week and each week you’re on a manageable and easy to stick to meal plan (a meal plan that makes you eat right). None of that fad diet plans. No need to fast or not eat a meal or a liquid diet. Eating and exercising the right way. You’ll also meet great and wonderful people who encourages you to do your best. The trainers are awesome too.
2021 was a better year but also it was another tough year for all. We eventually were able to go into center with masks. Then there was a point when we didn’t. Through out the whole year, the Max was there. In person or virtually. Every single day of the week. Who does that?? The MAX did.
The MAX team of trainers always kept their members working out every single day of the week. They scheduled several (not just 1 but 3) recorded workout every day. Then they did virtual live classes. The trainers were always there to keep their members motivated with their inspirational statements; and just being there in front of us to keep going. They care and NEVER gave up on their members. Who does that?? The MAX does.

Looking for a that place to change your life during these pandemic times? Well then look no further than the Max Challenge!!! I’ve been a member for over 2 and half years and its always a challenge, classes are fun, instructors are there to help/ guide you and working out never gets boring. Since the pandemic has started they haven’t stopped the program and there safety precautions are top-notch. I feel safe working out at the max because everything is cleaned/ wiped down if any equipment is used and also an air purifier is used in center for that pesky COVID virus. Plus you can workout with or without a mask without being judged. Max challenge is a great place to workout, to get or stay in shape and keep your immune system strong for the next virus that hits the world!!! So come on down!!!!

You’ll find a trainer that is encouraging, kind and there to help, owners that care about you as a person and know your name and you’ll meet like minded people that will make this place more than just a gym. The support you get from the Max family is like no other and for me it has been life changing. At my most active I was a home exerciser and never thought I would ever join a gym, nor had I ever…Well here I am, a year and half later: healthier, stronger and smaller ☺. Update 2020: This has been a trying year to say the least, but the Max has been incredible during the pandemic. I am in equal awe of the owner’s and the trainer’s ability to quickly move to a remote setting. There classes are still phenomenal and they offered both pre-recorded and live classes. Now that gyms re-opened, they have implemented safety procedure but if you aren’t ready to be in-person, you can still enjoy a solid program from home. It’s my home away from home, my therapy, and the only time when I can focus on me. The Max rocks!!!!
Update 2021: I continue to love this place! Thankful for 4pm class and the continued offering of virtual options: pre-recorded classes and live zoom option which help when your hard for time or taking precautions due to the pandemic.

The Max combines fitness with trainers and with healthy eating, to achieve your personal goals. The Max is for all ages, sizes, and fitness levels. It is an inclusive community where high fives (air high fives due to Covid) and support is strongly encouraged. The owners and staff support you every step of the way...they want to see you succeed work so you can be the best version of you. If your in doubt, stop in and meet the staff or try a class. The hardest part is walking in, but it will change your life.
This was my review the last 2 years.....I continue to LOVE this place!!!!! When the pandemic hit, the Max was truly there for its members. They created a virtual program like no other...with zoom recordings AND live zoom sessions. When the nice weather hit, they found a park where we can safely work out together. When the center was able to open, they recreated their space following all the cdc guidelines for safety. Additionally, they CONTINUE TO do live zoom and recorded meetings for those members who are not ready to go in person. 2 years later they still offer the virtual option!!! The support here is truly amazing.

Update to my original review, 6 months later for Fitmas! I’ve been at the Max of Springfield/Union since April 2021. About 3 challenges later, there is a notable difference in my fitness level and many changes in my body. The variety of classes and now the addition of the Saturday AM class have been great. Recently, I’ve noticed a more focused approach with regards to correct form and technique, spending time during classes when weight lifting is involved to ensure members understand the correct motions and muscle reactions associated with each move and also understanding when it’s best to modify or take a break. Earlier in the year, everyone had to wear masks and we had a temp. check in and sign in sheet to track. With cases on the rise again, protocols are back in place. I am impressed by all the members who clean their equipment and spot on the mat each class. After 8 months of classes, I feel like my form has really improved and I’m much more confident in my abilities. I am a work in progress and still have more fitness goals I want to achieve, but I am proud of how far I’ve come and hopeful for continued success here. Thanks to all coaches and staff, and special shout out to Joe who still kicks our butts at 7 PM even when he’s been at the Center since 5 AM.

I love the max and being around others who are pushing to better their health inspires a space of communal support. This adds to the very well thought-out and intense trainings we received during our daily (mon-fri) workouts. It’s come to a point where I don’t feel as energetic or physically comfortable as I do when I am committed to this establishments work out. I’ve gained muscle mass that I never thought I could. Updated review- It has been another 3 years since I posted my review, and I am STILL at THE MAX!! Throughout the Pandemic, the team came together so that members wouldn't miss ONE SINGLE DAY of their workouts and support. THE MAX went virtual, held outdoor classes, and got us back into the Center as soon as was allowed...and now, we're mask optional as well! The trainers continue to be the BEST in the area...classes are fun, varied, and effective! It's still my home away from home...and now with the InBody Scale addition, you can REALLY see your progress each step of the way! Come join us!!
The MAX Challenge is not just a gym- it is a family. A place where people go to not only lose weight and build their fitness, but also to make friends, get a daily dose of motivation, and enrich their spirit! I lost a ton of inches during my first challenge, and 20 lbs. a couple of Challenges after that. The journey is ongoing, and the support I receive at the MAX is like no other place in the world. I recently joined The Max of Union 6 weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. I felt I was in a rut after Covid, physically and mentally. Joining has overhauled my life. I now enjoy getting up early. I have more energy for my kids, I feel stronger, and I get more accomplished during the day. I love the accountability, which I need, and the support system both online and in person. Everyone is welcoming and will make you feel comfortable so even if you’re a beginner skill level like I am, you don’t feel out of place. The trainers are excellent. They will motivate you and push you, but also keep it fun and make you laugh. They make each day different so I have never felt burnt out or bored, it’s the opposite actually. Love this gym! I’m so happy to have finally found something that works for me.

The Max is not only a place to work out, it's an entire support system. I joined in January of last year, and am so glad I did! Everyone who works at the Max is supportive, enthusiastic and caring. During the quarantine, when so many of my friends were gaining weight and feeling sluggish,I lost weight. the trainers, managers, and owners continued to find ways to motivate us. They constantly provide daily inspirational tips and nutritional coaching.. I really cannot say enough good things about the Max. They really stepped it up during Covid - multiple live zoom workouts, pre-recorded workouts, and when it was safe enough, in-person masked workouts!! This is not a gym. It's a support system for your mind, body, and spirit in an extremely welcoming and non -judgmental atmosphere. I became a member first, then I became a trainer. It was AMAZING how both the corporate and our center's teams rose to the challenge when COVID-19 pushed fitness online this spring. Since then, I've felt the same level of motivation, camaraderie, and support whether I've taken a class virtually, outdoors, or safely in the center with a multitude of sanitizing and safety protocols in place.

I have been a member of The Max Challenge nearly for a year and a half now and my main branch that I go to is the one in New Providence but I have been at this branch in Springfield-Union a couple of times as well. I love this branch because just like the Max in New Providence, the people are extremely friendly and they welcome you as one of their own and not as an outsider. I’ve had numerous of gym memberships and tried different diets.
Surprisingly enough, I’ve been going to the Max for over 6 months, 4-5 days a week and plan on continuing for 2020.
Everyone (trainers and members) have been welcoming and very supportive.

The Max is the only place I’ve felt comfortable working out, from day one I was hooked. They challenge and push you but to your level. There’s no drill sergeant screaming but always an encouraging word. Workouts are challenging and fun. The meal plan is effective and easy to follow. No crazy meals or tiny portions, just real food. The Max of Union/Springfield is one of the best gyms in the state of NJ!! Great instructors, owners who constantly encourage you, and a nutrition program that really works make this gym one of the best programs ever!! The Max Challenge program is amazing, I've been struggling with trying to change my diet, work out and lose weight without any success. I walked into the Max on a whim one night and that was the best impromptu decision I ever made. The Max is teaching me about nutrition, how to eat the right foods and is keeping me moving with the exciting workouts. It's challenging but so worth it!! What can I say about the Max (of Union and of New Providence)? The Max is the best place to work out that I have ever found. I started my Max journey in January of 2015 and with the exception of vacations, work away from home and one week when I was sick, I have attended every day. The owners of these two Maxes, Allison and Amy and their trainers are always there to encourage, commiserate, teach and help us on our way to a healthier lifestyle. I would recommend (and I have) joining the Max to anyone who is serious about their health. The Max is a judgement-free zone, where we all work together realize our own healthy path.

When I first went to the Max Challenge Union i was a little hesitance because i have never workout in a group setting. Unbelievable instructors. This place is an ADDICTION!!! approaching my 40th week!! Never ever have I stuck to a workout regime like this before. Being accountable is key!! The Max Is not your typical gym. It's more of a social gathering of like minded men and women all motivated by one another to be better. I dropped 30lbs and lost 16 inches my first 10 week challenge and better yet am no longer need insulin or high blood pressure medication!!! Challenge yourself with the MAX, you won't regret it!!!
