Been to a lot of climbing gyms in North Jersey but I got to say this was one of my favorites. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. First timers get free shoe rental which is awesome! The gym itself is also really nice with lots of climbs for every level. There is also a weightlifting gym in the middle. The lockerroom and bathroom is also very nice big and clean. 10/10!

Best bouldering gym in the state of NJ, hands down. Thereβs not much else to say. If you like rock climbing and are in the North Jersey area, find a time to get to Method.

I only came for the weight room. They have quality power racks and bars, with Olympic style plates, and all the gear you need for serious weightlifting. They even have a glute ham raise and trap bars. Not only do they have two full racks but you can also set up the pull up bars as half-racks and they even have squat stands available too. There's no shortage of places to squat and bench press here. Amazing.
Confusingly, the gym is in the basement. The upstairs section that you see from the street is a cafe. The cafe is also extremely nice, with bathroom and Wi-Fi and plenty of seating.
The climbing section of this gym, and the main focus of the facility, is just enormous. I've never seen so many climbing walls in my life, seems like every single wall from floor to ceiling is set up for either bouldering or climbing.
The gym has bathrooms with lockers and showers. Though compared to the massive size of the facility, the bathroom feels a little disproportionately small. There's a conspicuous lack of towels, which is a little inconvenient considering all the chalk, floor dirt, and sweat you're gonna accumulate especially on your phone if you're tracking your lifts.
The entire gym floor has good WiFi coverage. The clientele and staff seems to include a large proportion of students from the nearby university. The staff are extremely nice and helpful.
The billing for the gym has a variety of monthly rates and you can purchase a set number of visits, weeks, or months of access. Prices are in the ballpark of $96/month. Thank God they don't use those horrible commercial gym membership scam contracts here. I haven't tried to cancel my membership yet but it seems like it should be easy and the billing doesn't appear to have any commitment required. When you arrive at the gym you just check in via the computer terminals by looking up your phone number and clicking "check in", super easy.
They have drinks for sale, but it doesn't seem like they stock any sort of energy drinks which is a bummer. Please get some of the sugar free Monsters π
Edit: they do stock sugar free energy drinks but they appear to sell out quickly
Overall this gym is pretty amazing. Never in my life have I seen such a massive, expertly equipped facility that is so user friendly. It seems too good to be true. Very impressive.

So Iβm definitely in the minority here, this place has plenty of climbing, but for me I actually use the workout area much more often. The workout area is basically fitted in classic CrossFit style and they allow you to drop weights. They have 4 racks where you could squat or bench and more room to deadlift or Olympic lift. Definitely a great place to workout. They also have a plenty of dumbbells, kettlebells, and a few machines. Love this place, and the climbing is good too.

I have tried to get into a regular workout for years, but to be perfectly honest, gyms are usually BORING to me. Not this one though. I come in three times a week, and it feels like a new playground every time. I've only been a member for about a month, but I feel super fit already, and really proud of how I'm beginning to tone. I also took my first yoga class with them in 20 years and I've never felt so internally balanced. And the best part is that the community here is an absolute treasure. I've never felt judged for falling off a wall or putting a harness on wrong by accident, the staff is so nice and helpful when you're figuring things out, and every month, they host multiple events in their cafe and the gym downstairs. Also, this is the only cafe in the area that stays open late, which is sometimes absolutely crucial for my own creative process. I feel truly thankful that I found this wonderful spot after moving to Newark. I hope to keep visiting for many, many moons. :)

Went here last week as a susprise birthday gift. Simply put, this place is amazing. I'd consider myself a complete beginner and couldn't have had a better instructor in Enrique. He was kind, informative, hilarious and most importantly, encouraging as he definitely verbally assisted me through one of the climbs that I truly wouldn't have reached the top without his positive reinforcement.
The space is vast and I didn't feel like I waited for more than a few seconds to do any of the climbs.
The staff is friendly and so, too, as the community.
I would definitely go back.

I had to google this place to see if it was a chain. No shade either way, just curious. It looks like this is privately owned, which is impressive for how smooth the operation is and how extensive the walls and fitness offerings.
I was stuck at the airport after a cancellation and ubered over to get a break. The staff was super kind and chill; even offered the qualifications for some discounts, which I had not asked about. The holds and problems are fun, plenty of tension boards, campus boards, and 45 deg walls to work out in. Itβs really well thought out and not fluff and show. Anyone, at any level, should be able to be engaged here.
Not least, the clientele is diverse (age, gender, race, ability, etc.) and itβs obvious the gym is deliberate about providing a comfortable and engaging space for all.
Thereβs a coffee shop upstairs with some drinks and pastries to refuel after and relax. Really great. Next time Iβm stuck in Newark, I wonβt be so grumpy, knowing I can pop over to Method.

I had a pleasant time here! the employees were very hospitable and helped me and my family. the only complaint would be the prices⦠rentals do not include chalk, so i would suggest bringing some of your own.
edit: they now have free liquid chalk to use!! Itβs very kind of them. Also, if youβre a college student you can climb for 18 dollars on fridays after 6pm i believe. very good deal!

I will start off by saying that itβs a great space, and the staff are super friendly. The reason for two stars is because they really need to address the air filtration system. Iβve never been to a climbing gym where thereβs a strong musty or mildew smell, and the chalk fills the air. Whoever manages the facility, please look into a better air filtration system. And lastly, consider daily maintenance of all the equipment. The gym equipment was caked with who knows what. Again, the space is pretty cool, but itβs so dirty, and the smell is horrible.

the guy was very gracious and everything. but my issue is the pass or fail policy of the top rope certification. i didn't know that tying in to the two tie-in points is preferable and always used the belay loop. while it's great to learn the knowledge, it would've been great to just let me fix it and climb especially when i just want to do top rope.
one more thing, no service in the basement is a tad inconvenient

My son and I LOVE Method gym. We started him there on a bit of a whim last fall and quickly got hooked - now we BOTH enjoy bouldering. I got my own shoes in the winter. There are SO MANY routes (and they are always changing). There is also a nice top rope and auto belay section - a bit smaller but we do not mind because we really are coming to do the bouldering.
The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable. We were able to find someone to coach my son 1 on 1 and that has been really great too!
The cafe has awesome coffee, games and a chill vibe.
Lastly, parking is not an issue (I know some might worry because it is in downtown Newark and parking can be hard to find). On the weekend we have found free and plentiful parking within a couple of blocks (or less) from the gym) and the weekdays we pay a small fee to use the parking garage a few minute walk from the gym entrance.
I cannot speak highly enough of Method Gym and tell everyone I know about it.

Method Climbing Gym is 100% the best climbing gym in New Jersey. Iβve been a member for a little over a year now and this place has become so special to me. The owners and the staff are involved, friendly, and supportive.

We were suspicious about the 5.0 rating with 300+ users coming in. But it was absolutely five out of five for all of us who went!! Very technical and fun. Their routes are so diverse that you can find virtually every type of problem. (Not a lot of overhang that just needs brute strength). Bc of how nice the route setting is, you find many great climbers here who you can learn from. Coffee is great too!

Definitely a comp style gym. People talk about this place all over. I work at a gym and central Pennsylvania and people know about
Method which is wild. Such a fun place to go. I havenβt had much experience with the community since I only go there sporadically but itβs a very fun place to climb. I definitely get humbled since the style of climbing is so different from what Im used to but so much fun.
The only complaint I have is really just the staff experience. Iβve never had a bad experience with the staff, but generally they kind of just ignore you. Iβve definitely gone and expect you to maybe have some cool conversations with other stuff since I also work at a gym, but for the most part still only really talk to you if you ask them questions. I donβt know, maybe itβs just since my gym really emphasizes that customer experience but otherwise this gym is pretty phenomenal and I still give it five stars.

Itβs always good to come back, I appreciate this gym because you can train technique on the boulders, climbing on heights itβs complementary to the bouldering, and because of that itβs always a good addition..
Iβm introverted so,for me is hard to get there when is full.. but, depending on the schedule, I find some gaps for me to train here and there.. I liked that the bathrooms are very clean and the basket of feminine pads in there is a nice detail that is very appreciated.

I've heard about this gym for years, from YouTube videos and friends. I love the architecture, the spotlights. They have all the best climbing holds, many of which I've never seen before. The routesetting was excellent, on par or better than other local gyms. There were a lot of fun climbs made with expensive holds, which is rare to find in the lower grades. There was plenty of hard stuff, some comp style problems, a wide range of hold types and textures. There was not much overhang, except for a more bare bones old school room in the back with a 45Β° and maybe even steeper overhang.
The people at the front desk were very nice.
I had a negative experience signing the waiver, It was a very long complicated process and the front desk person had to help me navigate the iPad.
Parking was disappointing. There is a garage across the street, But the gym charges $4 to validate the ticket. Not sure how much this ends up saving you, but for the price of a day pass they should include parking.
Overall the gym was cool to visit. I would definitely visit again.

Convenient location. Walking distance from Broad Street Newark Train Station. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. They have the latest equipment in rock-climbing/ bouldering. Training rooms are available for strengthening every muscle that is required in rock-climbing.

My review is based off of a one-time, non-membership visit so my review should reflect as such. I cannot comment on any aspects that a member might have insight into, such as the frequency of route setting, but I did break down my review into aspects I found most important to me.
- Route Setting: I really enjoyed the setting. As a seasoned boulderer who actively avoids climbing inside, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the route setting. I thought there was a good mix of modern style setting, with larger volumes and fun movement, and traditional try-hard setting. This meshed perfectly with my outlook that indoor climbing should equal parts fun to go along with all of the try hard projecting.
- Parking: Having spent 6 years attending college in Newark, I was immediately concerned at how I was going to park. There is a public parking garage directly across the street from Method, IDT Public Parking. You can validate the parking ticket at Method for $4, which, for the guaranteed opportunity to park in Newark, is very fair.
- Cleanliness: The store/cafΓ© upstairs looked clean. The gym itself was also very clean, most likely due to the fact that chalk bags are not permitted on the mats themselves, a great rule that most people, if not all, seemed to follow. Locker room was clean as well.
In all, a great gym. As I previously stated, I exclusively boulder outdoors, but I actually will be frequenting this gym every so often based solely on the route setting. Great work!

Awesome climbing gym! Great community! A little expensive, priced at about 95$ per month, but overall a great place.

So much fun! I am a very unathletic person so I was a little timid about going to Method climbing gym but Iβm happy I did. They have climbs perfect for beginners and I even tried some more advanced ones. Definitely a fun time and perfect for groups or even solo.

I absolutely love this place! Joined after Christmas and they are really legit. Some gyms are rock climbing wall gyms where there is the lead that holds onto you so you donβt fall off the wall. This gym focuses on bouldering and itβs so much more fun! They also have a regulate gym in the middle. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Would recommend!

One of my favorite climbing gyms. Thereβs a ton of bouldering options and the setting style is technique based and fun. Iβve been to a lot of gyms where I felt like some of the climbs were hard simply because they were made to be super reachy, so itβs nice to actually have a challenging climb that I can do with technique rather than just not being tall enough haha. They also have lots of classes that both members and visitors can enjoy and a top roping section as well. I like to come in for a session with friends and then hang out in their cafe after where I can get food and coffee or tea
