First time signing up fpr ymca. 1st ill start with the process was not at all easy to register yourself it felt like it took forever. 2nd thing every room you walk into has many rules, restrictions and some you even have to sign in. Takes a whole 5-7 minutes to be able to sign in each time for swimming area. They test you before and the girl wanted to test again which my kids had al ready done so, sounded crazy they had to test again and again.I put my foot down and made sure she looked at her notes to make sure my kids names where on there. She still kept going for minute about what she had to do to let them in and like i said ridiculous if im telling you look their names up... 3rd, The family swimming was what i enjoyed best with the kids BUT that also had so much more restrictions and only certain amount of time youre given in the middle of the day 12-3pm wish it was more so in the morning or more so the evening at least youd know what you can do for the rest of youre weekend so that was a super stretch for us to be able to make it those specific times. Just be ready to be greeted with many signs and sign ins and registrations, and many limitations. It was a bummer.

Went to tour this facility today and was very underwhelmed. For the price they’re asking for memberships and enrollment fees, they need to do some serious renovating. There’s no formal front desk. Staff members are sitting at tables to check people in. The layout is choppy. Cardio is downstairs, strength training is upstairs? One of the childcare staff members didn’t look or seem pleasant at all. Carpet in locker rooms?
The young lady that helped me at the front desk was pleasant and I do like their hours which is why I decided to tour in the first place but I’ll pass.

I love the Y, and the staff have always been friendly to me and my kids. My review is based on swim/ locker rooms
I never noticed any things I didn’t like until I had my youngest who is 6 months. As a breast feeding mom, there is no space where to bf and be comfortable with out being shoved in a corner. After swim (for me) it’s challenging to shower, and change my kiddo. The benches are small to lay a baby down to change. They do have a changing table on a wall and a baby chair w/ appropriate harness but that’s not enough.. it should be mom/parent friendly to one’s with smaller kids.
Also need more classes for babies, on the weekends!
Edit:
I keep forgetting to update my review: i also do not know if my personal review was the reason for the changes. However I spoke up, and you listened. The woman’s locker rooms have additions with private changing areas. Although I no longer breast feed it provides a space for other moms . Also a place where I can change and feel comfortable with out my 2 year old escape artist to run off while I am trying to get dressed.
I appreciate the changes being made -
The Y was a big part of my childhood, I grew up there. Now I’m bringing my kids so they can make their own memories too. I hope one day when they see that Y sign, it means as much to them as it does to me.

Hi,
I found an earring in the change room downstairs. I gave it to my younger daughter to give to the desk so they can save it when the owner is looking for it. The lady at desk desk at 12:10pm on Saturday June 7th 2025, she directly told my daughter”just throw it away!”
I was shocked to hear that unresponsive attention of the LADY!
We are the family who have lost my daughter’s golden family gift earring by the same way in our very first day in this building and we asked it for days if anyone find. I know they have a lost and found safe box in the desk’s drawer. She just didn’t care about. My daughter was told me in our language “ maybe they just threw away my grandma’s gift earring like that” !! This attitude is not acceptable!
After she stand up and open the box and replace the earring in the box. But when after i remind her the box.

Should be called “Whine MCYA” because this place feels like it’s built for kids and kids only. It’s turned into a giant playground—definitely not a serious gym. Equipment is extremely limited, and the basketball courts are almost never open for actual basketball. If you're looking for a real workout environment, this isn't it.

If you have a child with autism or any intellectual disabilities skip this place. They won’t offer any accommodations to your child. When it comes to taking a shower. It was my son’s last day of swim lessons and an employee come up to me saying that there is a woman’s bathroom. After I explained to him what the situation was, he went to get someone else. I’m steady asking them where is the accommodation for him are for him to just to change and take a shower. If he is 12 years old, where should he go and take a shower? Come on do better

This place needs some renovation . Tiny rooms and always crowded
Especially it’s so frustrating to park the car in the mornings when there are senior group classes . Machines are tired and many don’t work .. for the membership charge levied, the place can be maintained a little better

I am absolutely baffled. I cannot believe I can't wear my shoes into Ymca anymore. My shoes! The ones with the intricate lacing system, the ones that cradle my feet in their soft, closed-toe embrace. Do you know how long it took me to find these shoes? The perfect shade of brown, the ideal weight, the way they hug my heels and support my arches... it was a match made in heaven.
These aren't just any shoes. They're a statement, a work of art. The laces, woven in a [pattern], tell a story of craftsmanship and dedication. The closed-toe design, a testament to timeless elegance and practicality. The very shape of the shoe, sculpted to perfectly complement the human foot, a marvel of engineering.
And now, I'm told they're not welcome? That they violate some new, arbitrary policy? I demand an explanation! For 6 long and glorious years these shoes carried me to the finishline of my workout. From entering into the facility and greeting staff to sitting on the machines checking my phone these shoes were there for me. The acting figurehead having served a 2 and a half year tenure has never ones in over 700 days looked down as my footware and observed the pinnacle of human engineering and deemed it unsatisfactory for lifting weights. The earth has rotated around our sun twice and in that time span we have put a rover on the surface of Mars. Along with launching the James Webb telescope into space and setting it to orbit the sun at the Lagrange point around 1 million miles from earth observing the center of our known universe, but we were unable to observe the shoes of a daily patron who shows up for around 30 to 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week. It's like waking up one day and being told your car is now a bicycle. What about these shoes is suddenly so offensive? Is it the laces? Are they too intricate? Too suggestive? Do they pose a tripping hazard? If so, I'm willing to sign a waiver.
Is it the closed-toe design? Does it evoke too much formality? Too much sophistication? I assure you, I've seen people wear far more ostentatious footwear in this establishment.
Is it the weight? Are my shoes too substantial? Too grounded? Do they threaten to disrupt the delicate balance of the universe? If so, we may need to reevaluate the cosmic power structure
But the most infuriating part? They claim my shoes aren't "athletic." Athletic? These shoes? Have they ever seen an athletic shoe? Do they think all shoes that aren't made of mesh with a memory foam sole aren't meant for running marathons?
And to add insult to injury, my shoes were called shitkickers at first but when challenged said she actually said "boondocks." Boondocks? I had to look it up, and apparently, it's slang for uncivilized and unsophisticated! How can anyone look at these meticulously crafted shoes, with their hand-stitched, premium grade leather and deem them uncivilized? It's like calling a symphony orchestra a garage band!
I've tried to get a straight answer. I've asked the staff, "What exactly defines an athletic shoe in your eyes?" But they just stonewall me. They refuse to answer, hiding behind vague, broad statements. It's like they're deliberately trying to keep me in the dark.
I implore you, reconsider this absurd policy. My shoes have done nothing to deserve this exile. They're comfortable, stylish, and perfectly safe. They're an extension of my personality, a reflection of my soul. Don't rob me of my right to express myself through my footwear.
Let my shoes in!

I obtained my membership to the Y in late April with my husband and a friend. We took Kathleen's Silver and Fit class on our first week. We entered the class not knowing the protocol about what equipment to pick up and where to stand or sit. We were greeted with a very unfriendly older women that sneered and talked about us as being the new people. Needless to say this was very upsetting to us as we were looking forward to having a positive experience. Once we started learning the ropes so to speak we became more comfortable. I now make it a point to help out new members. Kathleen is a wonderful instructor and love attending her Monday and Wednesday classes. I will say that the class is extremely crowded and often there are not enough chairs and equipment to go around (no-fault to Kathy). I would like to see the Y purchased new equipment and if possible add another class in the early evening, I feel that as a new member there should be a staff member walk you around and talk to you about the classes offered and how to use the equipment before you start.
The YMCA is a wonderful and affordable place to work out and socialize. Please consider doing some renovations as the facility is looking a little out- dated and run down.
Please feel free to reach out to me should you want to speak with me.
Thank you,
Lynn and John Gavin

The staff at YMCA were great. Very nice and professional. My daughter really enjoyed her time at the Y for the couple weeks she was there. She was sent home with crafts and art work and enjoyed swimming two times during the week. Great option if you're looking for a camp for your kids and their drop off pick up times were very convenient

Worst experience ever! I had a single parent membership for myself & my 18 month son, I also put him in gymnastics. The very FIRST day of gymnastics, we get there, I walk my son around on the mat because they told me it was free play at the time. 15 minutes in, I was pulled to the side because other parents were uncomfortable and I was asked for us to leave by the only black worker there even though we later find out by the manager, it wasn’t even here place or position to come up to me but they chose her instead of the lead for the class because she has more of a friendly face. So, shouldn’t she be the lead? Or am I missing something. And the reason they was uncomfortable was because my son had a small cough and face was red. I get it! I’m a parent too. But! No one asked me hey is your son okay? Is he sick? No! Just yeah they’re uncomfortable so he can’t be here. Which in fact, he wasn’t sick. My son has anaphylaxis allergies, towards some foods which I’m not going to list and non anaphylaxis related allergies toward plants outdoors. With that being said a cough is a symptom and for his face & skin being red he has a bad case of eczema which comes from his allergies. NOTHING contagious! … I did what I was told, packed him up which made him cry because we had just gotten there and left. I refuse to let anyone or organization make my son feel different or less than!

I joined for the pool to swim laps. They really need more lap swimming time options. Or another pool would be even better - to have one designated for swim team, swim lessons and family swim. Then the other for lap swim and classes. Lap swimming is so popular I wish there was more availability to go.
It’s also annoying they took away lap swim 7am Sunday for the swim team.

We loved the baby swim class, the young instructors were wonderful with the babies and the pricing for the class was great. I would give my experience with them a 5 star! I do think the membership for this location is a bit overpriced for what you get. Weight choices are limited, there is only one stair stepper that just happens to be occupied all the time. The track and equipment around it is dirtyyyyy. I haven’t given everything a real shot as I only signed up for my baby to have access to the classes.

We were pretty disappointed. My daughter (9) and son (4) attended the summer camp in 2021. The reason we wanted them to attend camp was because we were under the impression that they would swim each day. We found out this was not true after paying in advance for camp. My daughter informed me that Junior leaders were not too pleasant at times, and it just didn’t seem like there was a detailed plan for them each day. We decided to cancel the rest of camp and was told that we would be refunded. However, after several months (this is now 2022), we still were not refunded for $1,000, even though the camp director told us we would receive a refund. My husband spent several months being told that the refund was awaiting approval, but we still haven’t heard anything. Needless to say, I would not have my children attend this camp again.

We just cancelled our membership due to a couple of reasons. One, the inability/limits to have pool access unless we were there for the class and second, most classes that we are interested in were for customers who are off during the day. We predominantly joined for swimming classes for our younger children but unfortunately, due to conflicts with the swimming teams or other activities going on in the pool, we were told we needed to get out of the pool. This even included times that were marked open and allowed us time to practice with our kids before or after their swimming lessons. There was also a particular staff member that was quite rude as if we were to know the sudden change of schedule. I did give 3 stars because the members outside the pool area were pleasant, informative, and extremely helpful. The facility is also very clean and accessible to get to and around. My recommendation is have a clear and precise schedule that customers may view online as plans change for a broader view of the operations for that day.

Waited 20 minutes for someone to ask "how may I help you?" Before leaving as I only had a question and received no answer by phone. There was someone else who walked in just before me also waiting for assistance. With 3 people at the front desk not one person asked. One of them were helping someone however the other two...said nothing. Great Customer service is a lost skill set.

Truly a family gym. Children as young as 10 can walk the indoor track. Great variety of classes for all ages, and especially for those that are in the older age range. Clean inside, friendly staff and good equipment. Do not let the exterior fool you, it is not appealing, but the inside is much better.

If you expect adequate communication and a registration system that works, go elsewhere.
For one thing, they won't give you the requirements for their summer camp until after you've paid the deposit. This lack of transparency and communication is exceptionally unprofessional, but it's only the beginning.
I had to register over the phone because their registration website was down. I was very clear that I had to get the forms the same day due to an unusual situation - but the forms didn't come through thanks to another website glitch. Now we are fighting to get a refund and they're trying to say the deposit was nonrefundable. This is the first I've heard that the deposit is nonrefundable, as the representative did not tell me that over the phone.
Thus, the Y withholds information and punishes you when their system does not work as intended.
I am so disgusted with this whole experience and truly expected better of the YMCA.
Edit: now Mary Gagliardi is getting even less professional and more snotty as we are trying to get a refund. "The policies were stated on the website for anyone to read." That would be the website that wasn't working.
Just a dreadful experience.

I went to the Mount Laurel YMCA to inquire about a water life saving program to do some lifeguarding this summer at local public pools. I got a warm welcome and a business card, and I left a voicemail but I have not heard anything regarding my interest. Is this because of COVID, or are they just busy at the Y?

Literally my lifesavers every time school is closed, specially now with the remote learning craziness.
