Since the year of 2015. I have been a loyal member of Planet Fitness of Belleville, NJ. I have to really be very honest and grateful for this public post. I was 185 lbs when I started a weighing and measuring my food and liquids also. I have been on a no sugar, flour, and wheat meals way of eating since 2013. Today, continuing my journey out of lockdown in the year 2025, I am a size 3 in the junior department and a size small in the women department. I weigh 127 lbs. I feel fantastic 😌 💪 🙌.

I have been a Planet Fitness member since 2019 and have been consistently visiting this particular location since 2022. This evening, I experienced an issue at check-in when the front desk employee asked if my membership was based in another state. I confirmed that it was, and he proceeded to inform me that I could only visit 10 times per month before being charged an additional fee.
I was unaware of this policy, as it has never been mentioned to me in the past. When I asked for clarification, the employee became rude and condescending instead of taking the time to explain the situation professionally. His tone and demeanor were unnecessarily dismissive, which made the interaction uncomfortable and frustrating.
Fortunately, another staff member, Hector, stepped in and handled the matter with professionalism and courtesy. He clearly explained that while the policy has always existed, it is not always strictly enforced, and he kindly provided guidance on how to transfer my membership to this location.
I greatly appreciate Hector’s respectful and helpful approach. However, the initial interaction was disappointing and not reflective of the welcoming environment Planet Fitness promotes. Consistent communication of policies and proper customer service training would go a long way in preventing similar experiences for other members.

The gym is a nice facility, however, it really falls short on new employee training especially for the ones at the reception scanning members in, not all but a good number of male employees would never greet you and say anything as they scan you in. Truck driver friendly, park in the back and walk without issue. Poop toilet paper on ground, showers cold and had 15 minutes to warm up and didnt, water fountain not working and barely giving out water which of course isn’t cold. All equipment is at least up to par and clean

I have been living in Belleville, NJ for some time now, and for the Two week I had been attending the Belleville Planet Fitness without any issues. However, during my most recent visit, I had a very disappointing experience with the staff.

First, I was told in a dismissive and unprofessional manner that because I have the $15 membership from Clifton, I could not continue working out at Belleville unless I upgraded to the $30 plan. The explanation was given in a way that was unclear and disrespectful, leaving me frustrated and confused.

Additionally, what made the experience even worse was the way I was treated regarding language. Even though I understood the information being explained in English, the staff member abruptly switched me to another employee to repeat the same thing in Spanish, which felt unnecessary and discriminatory. Instead of helping me or clarifying the situation, it only added to the sense of being dismissed and not treated with respect.

On top of that, I find this practice misleading and deceptive. I have been able to use other Planet Fitness locations with no problem, but here I was essentially forced to upgrade to a $30 plan in order to continue. This feels like false advertising and a lack of transparency toward members, and it is unacceptable.

Overall, the customer service at this location was extremely poor, with unprofessional communication, misleading information about memberships, and behavior that came across as discriminatory. Because of this experience, I have decided that I will no longer continue with Planet Fitness and will be canceling my membership.

For the Belleville location…
Lots of machines not working. TV has no cable unlike ones in Bayonne and Edison (no sports or news). Most of TV are off or not working. Water fountain keeps failing. The workout mats are not in good condition (torned).

The good news is that they addressed the darkness issue and employees are relatively friendly

Worst gym I have ever been too and the workers are disappointing just on their phone the whole time and there is an saying to not come to the Belleville location which I’m definitely not coming back after the way I was treated by the worker…. My experience was fine until I needed my invoice. I made three phone calls and stopped by the store once. Each time, the receptionist told me she couldn't give it to me. When I called back at the exact time she said the manager would be available, they left me on hold and never followed up. This is completely unacceptable—getting an invoice should not be this difficult.

Wouldn’t let me and my nephew in because my nephew didn’t have an ID. HE’S 14 I TRIED TO DO THE GUEST PASS AND DIDNT HIM IN. And when I told the girl that he has the summer pass but for another location she was still asking for an ID. HOW IS A 14 YEAR OLD GOING TO HAVE AN ID? Ive been coming to this gym for 3 years now they see me every single day in there. Wouldnt let me cancel my membership in person. They said I will be accruing charges until i pay it off in full. I feel like theyre strong arming for a few hundred dollars. I would like to workout a payment plant but they also wont let me use the facility during said potential payment plan.

They have gotten too corporate, and profit hungry over the years. I have been a member for about a decade, no more 24 hrs, and there are higher monthly fees for newer members.

As the other have said below , the staff is horrible . It’s a teenager ( or at least she had the attitude of a spoiled teenager) who is more concerned in confronting and making people uncomfortable instead of helping .
I travel a lot and sometimes I bring with me my small carry on luggage because between caught my flights is probably the only timing I have to work out . and whatever planet fitness unit I go they are always very friendly and let me storage my stuff at the front desk while I go work out . It’s not about an obligation, it’s about being understandable with the customers life and needs and that’s what makes the difference of a good gym and a bad gym - helping people to achieve their fitness goals doesn’t matter how difficult is. Being supportive.
Not this one . The girl responsible for managing the front desk ( the teenager ) was extremely rude and said she can’t speak about the other units but at THIS unit they do not help anyone with extra luggage . Well I must to say THIS unit is sucks and no one should come here . I lost my training today because of this little Karen. I hope she got the satisfaction she wanted for irritating people , probably this is the only thing she is capable to do in and to have in life . Do better little girl . You won’t go far in life with this attitude.

Been going to various planet fitness locations in the area for almost two years now.

There is a lot about this location that makes me want to like it. It is large. Large enough variety of machines and equipment, including two cable fly machines and two per fly machines; some locations have none or one. The 360 area is a bit more secluded here than other locations. 6 Smith machines. And it's location is convenient for me.

On the other hand, some things to dislike. It is large, but can be very crowded during the day and that not including the 4 to 7pm rush. 6 Smith machines, but one or two tend to be broken. None of the new machines that other locations received recently. Water machine tends to have issues, whether it is warm water or just doesn't work.

I'll still go to this location on some days amd get my workout in within 1.5 hours. Again, I want to like this location and make this my main one but other locations nearby do better in some ways.

I go to this location nearly 6 days a week. I weight train every session and in those sessions I may use gloves, sleeves, wraps, straps. I don't know if I'll need any of those things until I start training when I may begin to feel strain etc so rather than leave all those additional pieces just laying on the floor I leave them in my gym bag which I NEVER leave on the floor to avoid any trips or falls however today I was told per this particular franchise owner's policy I can't have the bag at all outside of a locker which means I'd have to either bring all those things and leave them randomly on the floor or go back and forth to the locker room to retrieve what I may need which would leave any machine I'm using open and hope it's still available when I get back and only further extends my training time. I understand concerns over a trip or fall but it's NOT on the ground cause it has a really strong magnet. Now if tripping is even a concern I can't tell you the number of times weights are just strewn about or how the floor over by the benches is literally bubbling/raised. I don't get it.. Someone please help this make sense.

I understand that Planet Fitness is a budget gym, and I’ve never expected all the bells and whistles—like squat racks or a full range of free weights. That’s fine, and I’ve been working around it. However, the recent issue with the thermostat being turned up SO RIDICULOUSLY HIGH has made working out borderline unbearable. The area around the free weights feels like a sauna, and it’s honestly impossible to maintain a productive workout in these conditions.

I’ve been a member at this location for about 6 months, primarily out of necessity, but this thermostat situation is completely out of control. When I brought it up with the front desk, I was told that "the thermostat is controlled at a different location," which makes absolutely no sense and seems like an excuse to avoid addressing the problem.

If this continues, I’ll have no choice but to switch gyms. Planet Fitness markets itself as a "judgment-free zone," but it feels more like a "sweatbox zone" lately. Please fix this issue—it’s driving loyal members away.

I've been enjoying this gym a lot more since they expanded and included more weights and lifting equipment. It's a lot easier to get the weights and stations you need now. They do keep things clean too, you can always see someone mopping or wiping down equipment. When things are broken I feel like they do a decent job of getting them fixed. Obviously some broken things are easier and quicker to fix than others.

I personally would LOVE in they included some real squat racks, as I really don't like Smith machines. But I do understand machines like that are not exactly part of the PF model

I had a very bad experience in this gym. I always have my personal things in a small bag so as not to get in the way of anyone because I use it all the time when doing exercises, like the phone, sweat towel, disinfectant and water, and I wanted all of that to be on the floor that is not clean. The cleaning of the floor is disgusting and the service is terrible.

I’ve been a member of this Planet Fitness location in Belleville for six years, and my mother and I recently reactivated our memberships about a month ago. We've been visiting the gym 3-5 times a week since then. However, today when they scanned my mother in, we were told she would not be allowed entry without a photo ID. Since I drove us there, my mother did not have her ID on hand.

When I tried to communicate with the manager, Keara, I found her response to be rude and unprofessional. I attempted to show her our membership contract, but she turned away and walked off. Once my sister sent me a picture of my mother's ID, Keara ignored us multiple times. Thankfully, another employee stepped in to assist us.

What was most disappointing was Keara's behavior. As the manager, she should know how to handle customer interactions with professionalism, yet her actions were both dismissive and disrespectful. At one point, when another employee was speaking to my mother in Spanish, Keara even rolled her eyes in front of me. This behavior was completely uncalled for, especially considering we remained respectful throughout the interaction.

I would like to know who I can contact to address this issue further. We didn’t even receive an apology, and the entire situation stemmed from Keara's inability to handle a basic customer service situation. If she is unable to maintain professionalism in a customer-facing role, perhaps a different position would be more appropriate for her.

The managers say that they do not honor day passes because it’s a franchise. Wasn’t offered a tour of the gym and told to find someone with a black pass to come back. Good way to loose business. Te dan una promoción falsa y terminan facturándote más de lo que dice la promoción que claramente dice no hay ningún compromiso. No Creo que un gerente que roba $$ al cliente deba tener ese título o Puesto. Un gerente además de administrar, supervisar y ser pagado; debe buscar soluciones a problemas con clientes insatisfechos o no cómodos con los servicios. Esto es una alerta roja 🚨🚨🚨 para las agencias pertinentes de auditoría y monitoreo de asuntos al consumidor. I have a payment arrangement with my home gym so I can access the gyms she won't honor the arrangement and denied my access to Belleville gym. Even after confirming the arrangement wish they had a better management specially after she denied me the regional managers contact. The location is really convenient (just about a 15-minute drive for me, same as it takes to get to ShopRite anyway), and while the parking situation kind of sucks, they didn't build the lot, and they have to compete with other businesses on the strip. The gym's fairly nice and well-kept. The restroom and locker room are clean. I haven't really interacted with the staff, but they seem inoffensive.

But the damn water fountains and water dispenser ALWAYS seem to be broken, every single time I go. It's actually rare to see them working. Kind of makes it a pain to get a refill during a workout, unless you want to overpay for bottled water... which seems, y'know, shady.

I’ve been going to this location consistently for the last four months! Staff is very friendly and always helpful. Everyone does their own thing and even when it does get busy. It doesn’t prevent from getting a great workout out in!! Ladies room is always on point due to the cleaning staff!

They recently took all the Pharrell hand sanitizer machines out of the gym and half the time to soap in the men's room is empty the management is terrible. The place went totally downhill, they don't take care of nothing, either they're what is incompetent or the owners cheap.

I also have been working out here for several years. I have the black card so I frequently go to other locations when I'm out of town. The difference is night and day. The men's bathroom is ALWAYS disgusting. They haven't had hand sanitizer in over a month. I asked an employee about it and was told they ran out but they are getting an order tomorrow. That was two weeks ago. The water machine hasn't worked consistently in probably over 7 months. Whoever is the manager at this location should go to others and see the difference, cuz this is not it.

I have been working out in this gym for two years at the beginning everything was ok, unfortunately it's getting BAD, the rules are not enforced, loud, aggressive, and inconsiderate people come every day, the machines are dirty, used paper towel on the floor, sometimes there are not paper towels and sprays. Yesterday night, I saw the worse, a couple were engaging in an obscene situation inside the 30 minutes workout section with loud "music" that was disgusting!
Hopefully this gym doesn't deteriorate.

I really like the gym but, it's sucks that they're not 24 hours sometimes I can't make it in the morning or afternoon cuz I'm running around in the day. My preferred time to work out is Saturday and Sunday as well as Friday. Cuz I'm a busy Mommy. 🤗

This gym is very good, clean and with new equipment. The only problem is the employees, they need customer service training. The guys at reception are on their cell phones all the time, they don't even say good morning, they barely look away from the screen to check in.

I retract my original post. I pay for a 24/7 gym that isn't 24/7 anymore. Half the time I can't even use machines cause other patrons take longer times on it.

Star rating more for the experience rather than against the facility. Except ... water fountain hasnt worked (very low pressure ... which is a health hazard especially with covid) every time I workout there, and I have been going sporatically over last few months. Cant even fill up a water bottle, pressure so low you can finish a workout quicker. Fix the water fountain. Also, being so close to Newark, I think this adds to traffic with people using machines and dumbbells. Many times have to modify workout because people using equipment, then play on their phones during their LONG rest between sets. Bad gym etiquette. I live in town, but I travel to other locations to workout 4-5 days a week.
