Staff for the most part are okay. But there seems to be some that are attention seekers and only communicate with you to point out what is not correct. Otherwise not even a hi. Not all staff, but some, like the older lady, plays favorites with people, starts talking to some of the men she seems to be fond of and gives them a pass to any possible rule violations it seems, but to other members like myself (just there to workout and not chitchat), tries to point out flaws and looks for wrong things to point them out to you. Staff need to be trained on equality and favoritism reduction and equitable respect and treatment of all members not just the ones you have friendships. This is not a social club for staff: it’s their job place.

truly believe this is a great gym, and I’ve even invited friends and my girlfriend to join. However, I find it disappointing that members are not allowed to guide or help the people they bring, as it’s automatically considered “coaching.”

I fully respect the gym’s policies, but the health, safety, and well-being of members should always come first. Many beginners and older adults risk injuries when they train without any guidance. Preventing someone from responsibly helping their partner or friend goes against the idea of creating a safe and supportive environment.

I understand the need to avoid group sessions or professional training inside the facility, but restricting people from assisting their loved ones feels excessive. One coach on duty cannot realistically support even a fraction of the members.

It’s unfortunate to see policies prioritized over people’s progress and safety. I truly hope management reconsiders this rule so the gym can remain a place that promotes improvement, care, and community.

I’ve been a loyal Planet Fitness member for over 10 years, but I’ve had a very disappointing experience with the management at this location. Recently, I was told my membership would be canceled because I sometimes leave a few minutes after closing (usually 2–6 minutes). The only reason for this is that I make sure to re-rack all my weights properly and use the washroom before leaving.
What frustrates me is that I was never given any warning that this was a problem until the manager suddenly threatened to cancel my membership. What happened to clear communication or basic courtesy? The situation was handled in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner. Not how long-term and loyal members should be treated.

Hi everyone,

Even after making a review which prompted the owner to call me, the patron access to quality disinfectants in the gym at the Fairview NJ location is still not adequate; it’s concerning.

This is a gym: we smell, we sweat, and we touch common surfaces. Why did the owners remove the Purell dispensers? Why can’t the disinfectants at their “cleaning stations” list common chemicals so we know the machines we clean are being properly sterilized?

One employee told me that the owner is “cheap” and “constantly cuts corners”. Makes sense to me - other planet fitness locations have Purell stations and quality disinfectants listed on their bottles. Why can’t this one?

My original review still stands: the owners of this Planet Fitness (Fairview NJ) obviously focus on their bottom line; they don’t care about quality. Why can’t we have an affordable gym with quality disinfectants? Isn’t that’s what the core of Planet’s mission is about: access for all?

I would stand corrected if we see the immediate addition of:
1) Purell / hand sanitizer stations re-installed dispersed adequately across the gym (they took them down!).
2) disinfectants listed on the cleaning bottles (showing it’s not just soapy water).
3) paper towel dispensers so we aren’t all touching the same roll while we attempt to rip sheets off.
4) a cleaning schedule showing machine cleanliness by a staff member.

I appreciate the staff members I’ve spoken to. They are polite and understand the issue; unfortunately they can’t help. As a concerned member I will be calling the better business borough of NJ and Planet Fitness corp. to assist.

🚨 To start off this whole place is a danger zone. The flooring of whole facility is severely unleveled with high and low spots, bumps, slants, etc. you name it.
Do the test yourself. Stand anywhere in this place . And I mean anywhere. The locker rooms, bathrooms, free weight area, machine area, 30 minute circuit room, stretch room, cardio place, anywhere. and you’ll instantly notice how parts of your body will be and feel uneven due to different points of contact with your feet and the ground. Another test you can do is to get on any machine. Any of the cardio ones, seated ones and you’ll notice one side being higher then the other and with some machines the whole thing will even shake due to instability as you’re using it.
This makes it incredibly dangerous for people to work out as the ground isn’t leveled all throughout the facility.

This will lead to effects on your overall body and health such as structural and posture misalignments like scoliosis, problems with your pelvis, your spine, shoulders, feet, whole body.
All sorts of issues and injuries to your body will arise from this.

It is crucial to have a solid, leveled foundation when exercising and this place doesn’t provide that. You will get injured in this place and I’m sure people already have.

Picture you doing any exercise, for this example something like a squat or deadlift. You’re already starting off with bad posture and uneven weight distribution. Misaligned hips, misaligned shoulders, misalignment spine, and you go through the motion. You feel something’s not right but you’re not sure what it is. There goes your whole back.

I’m genuinely surprised the owners of this particular location haven’t been sued yet.

Surely they’ll scan through this review and give a generic response like they do with all of the other reviews.

Decent gym with plenty of parking. Staff are generally pretty friendly. About what you'd expect in terms of cleanliness - not great, but not the absolute nightmare some other reviews found it to be. Offers a standard variety of machines and a yoga/stretching room. Can definitely get crowded during peak hours. Bring earbuds/headphones: some people really like to yap about personal issues.

New management the same shit or worse.
Asking the first week not to exercise with sandals or barefoot. Some days passed by and not caring anymore.

Parking lot does not have any visible lines anymore so you can imagine how people park.

-1 star as the Bathrooms are always a water park. Floors and countertops are always covered in water. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Update 1/16/25 - Some of the equipment is already starting to break. One of the Spin cycles doesn't track cadence and another doesn't allow seat adjustment. I've unplugged the specific bike and notified the staff a few times that this is an issue. They stated the manager would be notified. Every time I return the bike is powered on and in the same state. (Maybe remove it, or put an out of order sign up)

3 of the 4 spin cycles are faulty in some way.
1 has a broken saddle that cannot be moved and has been like this for months.
Another still doesn't track cadence I've brought this to the attention of staff and it's still there.
The third will randomly reboot itself in the middle of the workout. Staff said a connection is loose but it's still in service.

The parking lot is chaos when its busy. People make up parking spaces to the point that the fire lane is often obstructed.

-1 ⭐ again. All 4 of the spin cycles are now broken in some way. Screws stripped, pedals bent, adjustment knobs seized. I've told staff multiple times, I've even told the repair guy when he's around. Every time I return it's exactly as I left it. None have ever been repaired in any way.

The gym is very dirty. It also needs new machines. I think this is the only PF that is not renovating. I've been in other gyms, and they have the hack squat and the hip thrust machine, but this one it hasn’t even repaired the ones broken for more than a year. Also, there are a lot of kids and trainers that use the equipment for long periods of time.

Gym is always absolutely full to max capacity with 2-5 people on every single machine. The equipment is disgusting and people have absolutely no etiquette sitting on machines for 15-30 minutes while on their phones taking selfies and watching tik toks. Now a summer program has just began allowing children into the gym for free making it even more difficult and miserable to get a half decent workout. At this point its a playground/hangout rather then a gym.

"Unfair and Predatory Billing Practices/ Unprofessional Manager and employees – Stay Away!"

I had an overdue balance of around $40, which (rightfully) restricted my gym access until paid. However, despite locking me out of the facility, this gym continued charging me a full monthly membership fee for over a year without any notification or account freeze. How does it make sense to keep billing me when I couldn’t even use the gym? Instead of freezing my account or reaching out to resolve the small overdue amount, they silently collected hundreds of dollars while denying me access. This feels like a scam—punishing members for a minor balance while exploiting them for recurring fees. Avoid this gym at all costs if you value transparency and fair billing. Shady business practices like this deserve zero stars.

I guess I'll be give my review based on what planet fitness shows on their official website. On the official website they say a club is supposed to give a free day pass for first time guests visiting the gym. But when I arrived the elderly man said it's $21 for the day and at this location it's not free.. I'm sorry but franchises need to follow corporate rules right? If the site show a day pass then charge $21 then say oh if you sign up before 30 days you'll be refunded $21 will be refunded.. hard to believe let's see that on the door in fine print. I believe I see complaints for not guests who also who can't get help for information on Spanish and no help getting any information given to them.. There also multiple members here who are personal training under the table without letting the gym know. Please be aware what is going on.

I have to write this because I felt no empathy from the manager of this gym, I left my lavender-colored stanley glass last Friday the 16th and I did not return to the gym for a week because I had covid, I called many times to let them know that I could not go so as not to infect anyone and they never answered my calls, we even left a voice message and I did not receive an answer either, when I returned on Monday the 26th the manager's response was that they threw my glass in the trash, it seems unfair and irresponsible to me that they made the decision to throw my glass in the trash, I would like to know the policies of this gym when someone leaves personal items, now my glass is no longer available on Amazon and I am really upset and disappointed in this place.

The WOMEN'S bathroom is gross. hair from days in the shower. the garbage is next to the shower. so when women have their monthly curse. its disgusting. because the trash is not taken out on a daily. so you smell the nasty old pads while showering and gasping for air. We’ve called this location the last 2 days regarding AirPods that fell into a stair master machine. We’ve been told that they have to wait for “the guys” in order to get the case out. When we spoke to them yesterday and the girl who answered informed us that “the guys” would be there and that we should call later to get an update. I spoke to a girl today at 6:13 pm about an AirPod case and she knew exactly who I was and referenced the item and color of the case. She suggested I call back tomorrow and speak with Michelle (a manager) so that she can assign someone to look for the item. I asked the rep if the manager was made aware as it had been 2 days now and no one has been able to get the case. She informed me that Michelle had been texted about it, and that I should just call tomorrow. I said perfect, may I ask what your name is please so I can reference you when I speak to her. Her response was I don’t need to disclose that information. I manage a luxury spa in edgewater and standard customer service is to provide your first name when interacting with a guest. One it provides a sense of trust with the client. Two, it personalizes the call, lastly it is standard customer service etiquette. I then clarified that I in no way had any intention of complaining or anything of that sort. I just wanted to reference her since she knew exactly who I was and what I was trying to retrieve. She again refused. Not the best customer service. I would recommend recording your calls for training purposes. I also have an AirTag on my case so I know it’s still there. I just want my item back!

Today, I signed up at Planet Fitness Gym at the Fairfield location. After my heart procedure I wanted to continued with my cardio exercises at a gym. So, I decided to go to that location because of the good reviews, clean environment, and it is closer to my home. Unfortunately, my experiences there wasn’t as welcomed as expected, and I was very disappointed. Since it was my first time there or at any other gym after the pandemic, I had a few questions and concerns about the machines. They were two staffs at the front desk, and shockingly they stood there and ignored me then refused to assisted me with anything around the gym. I wasn’t familiar with the place, and they continued talking to each other as if I wasn’t in their presence. They were disrespectful, unprofessional, lack customer service etiquette, and they shouldn’t be working at the front desk greeting people. Now, none of that matters anymore because everything happens for a reason in the world. But, as a new member I get the chance to go to a different gym with much friendly staffs, and pleasant environment. Which is where I preferred to be around and not at a place where I am uncomfortable and not treated respectfully.

Kinda crowded, maybe just a busy night. Bathrooms could've been cleaner. But my biggest pet peeve was the cold showers 🥶. There's no need for that up north. Maybe in Florida or something. I mentioned to staff hopefully they listen.

The worst over paying gym membership for nothing, they have no classes you just go to the gym and it’s the most nasty and dirty gym , employees are so rude over the phone and when you go to the gym they act like they did not say anything so rude and they know who you were over the phone. Don’t go to the North Bergen Location disgusting and disrespectful people

Love this gym as my usual.

Fair amount of space, machines, plenty of parking, clean restroom area and spacious locker rooms with showers, including a designated shower for persons with disabilities.

I’m personally just not a fan of the people here who do not clean up after themselves after using a machine, and those who do not share machines closer to the restrooms and front entrance of the gym.

Staff could use another person or two to survey the areas and enforce better overall compliance without customers having to potentially set off an alarm and possibly irk someone who may be set in their ways.

This may sound like a 3 star review, but I’ve tried Hoboken and North Bergen PF gyms and they’re not nearly as good as this location! I will continue to be a member here.

I have been a member for the last 2 years. In May The tanning and massage did not work i.. Today I went to use the facility and was told I could not because of a $69 fee I owed north Bergen from years ago. I explained it had to be a mistake on their side.. you just took out $30 two days ago from my account. You have taken annual fee and monthly fees for 2 years.. I was refused entrance. I asked for a manager. Michelle is her name. I told her my son recently passed away and I use this facility to relieve stress. She said too bad but you can't come here till you pay the outstanding bill. I cancelled my membership. I asked for a cooperate number but she refused to furnish.. I have filed a complaint with the better business bureau.. footnote. When I called north Bergen. They invited me to come and relieve stress. Free of charge. but I'm too shaken at this time.

it's okay. they have the standard machines which is good. the only problem is that it gets extremely full to the point where you have to wait 30 minutes for a machine to be open. the spray bottles are usually empty so you also have to run across the gym and get one so you can clean the machines. I think it's better to come in the mornings. otherwise it'd a pretty decent gym:)!

It was really nice at the beginning but not anymore! A lot of personal trainers inside which is not allowed! People waste a lot of time in the machines without using them o just watching social media mean while other are waiting to use the machine, the bathrooms smell discusstin and also the hidro massage rooms 🤢🤮 I feel bad for the owners because maybe they don't know it! And it's a sheme because it's a nice gym.

Unfortunately, I had to edit my original 5 Star review. There's a white old guy at the front desk, who you wouldn't Iike to deal with. Very unpleasant person. Since I am a black card member Iwas taking my friend as a guest and had to deal with this mister. He demanded our IDs an insisted on taking our pictures. He gave us a really hard time an honestly I felt embarrassed of the way he treated us. He made a racist comment towards my friend since she doesn't speak any English. We felt like a criminals having a mug shot taken. if this is something 100% required please include it in the app. We honestly just came to excersise and have a good time, we not going through immigration at the airport. I will just cancel this membership and go somewhere else. The $25 a month are not worth it for the hustle a humiliation.

I've been a member for good 3-4years here. Usually I come here during the nights but today I decided to come in the morning and I clocked in and female staff followed me and rudely saying my jacket must be placed in locker for safety?! I've NEVER heard that before and I didn't even had the lock for it on hand. I've worked out only for 15min but I'm leaving.....because I'm scared what if someone steal my clothes?!?!?!?! And is this something you should be rude about? No wonder people all headed to LittleFerry planet fitness.... People are a lot kinder over there. Trust me.

Currently in the process of filing a corporate complaint against this location. Management, has not properly trained any of the staff members how to process PF Blackcard members from other clubs nationwide. I have an active PF Blackcard account, however, the staff members would not let me use any of the PF Blackcard amenities because they had no idea how to use the advanced search and verify my club status and manually add me to their franchise database. This issue needs to be resolved with the Planet Fitness in Fairview, NJ. This is supposed to be a nationwide membership plan. Additionally, this issue does not just affect my account. There were multiple out-of-state members unsuccessfully attempting to access the PF Blackcard amenities at 2pm with the manager nowhere to be found. When the staff member contacted to manager by phone, staff member said there's nothing they could do and blamed my home club even though this issue affected multiple members from different clubs. I went to another nearby PF gym and there was no issue adding my PF Blackcard into there individual franchise database. I will provide another update after I finish my formal complaint with corporate.

While this was a “just okay” gym about a year ago, it’s since become pretty gross. Panels falling off the walls, holes in the ceiling, uneven floors, no hot water for days on end, poor water fountain, dirty equipment, broken equipment, and the manager is awful (Michelle.) The massage chair area often smells awful because the garbage bins get filled with fast food trash. And despite posting a board saying “no personal training, taking videos, or jump rope,” they don’t reinforce any of these policies. I’d be fine with turning a blind eye to this if the gym was cleaner. I visited another planet fitness elsewhere recently and realized just how awful this one has become. Looking to cancel and go somewhere else asap.

Always crowded and looks dirty. I’ve been considering canceling and after interacting with the “manager” (I think her name is Michelle) I never want to deal with PF again. She ran out of the door to yell that I couldn’t cancel there anyway because it wasn’t my home location. I immediately drove to the other location to complain and cancel. The other staff members were lovely and professional. They apologized for her behavior which I appreciated but it was too late. PF is a garbage gym
