Pure Barre – Best Decision I Ever Made!

I’ve been doing Pure Barre for over six months, and it’s been amazing for my strength and energy. The workouts are challenging but fun, and Kelcey and the instructors are super motivating and supportive. If you want a workout that really transforms your body, Pure Barre is the place!

Loving my Pure Barre experience! This workout is EXACTLY what my body needs, the perfect balance of stretching, strength training, & cardio. I feel long, lean and strong. The ballet inspired workouts with isometric holds taps into every muscle. I love all the instructors as well. Thank you Purre Barre for giving this mama a break from her little ones to feel powerful and feminine! I look forward to every class, and the app to schedule classes makes it so easy! Wish I could give 10 stars.

A must try, you will be hooked! It’s a mix of everything you want in a work out. The workout itself and the staff is amazing. All the instructors are very thorough during class, and take the time to answer questions after. It’s truly a family feel here. Both the instructors and members are the sweetest bunch. Don’t be fooled by the small movements, you see results if you stick with it!! Try out the intro class (free) and register for 1 reform class to get a feel. You will love.

Clear discrimination against those with disabilities. If you are permanently disabled in any fashion and need any accommodation, do not bother with this place, as they make “no exceptions”. I have severe pain I my knees, arches, and subsequently spine when I don’t have the support of sneakers, which I explained were never and would never be worn outside the studio, also explaining my conditions of osteoarthritis in both knees, patellofemoral disorder, and collapsed arches that throw my alignment off and cause pain. I was actually super shocked at their tone deaf response that it was “low impact so you may be able to participate with grip socks”. It’s almost like they didn’t understand what I said. I can’t do dance anymore bc of what dance without shoes did to me from my knees down. It’s not about impact, either, thanks for asking 🙄. Literally any aspect of my life besides sleeping hurts without shoes. Insane that they can’t make an exception for a disabled ex dancer that needs to wear sneakers, even with a written note from my rheumatologist. FYI Club Pilates and eWaves in town that are shoe free facilities both make these exceptions. I am a rare exception, as you don’t see as many people as determined as I am to continue living any semblance of an able bodied life after having their life change in their mid thirties. I’m thankful for them. If I was the owner of this location, I would be mortified.

Wow this place really will go after you to pay for their overpriced socks and will hunt you down.

Love the energy, how easy it is to book a class online, the schedule is highly convenient and the most beautiful thing about it is the sense of belonging to a community that welcomes you with wide open arms! Each class is challenging and fun … love it ❤️

The reviewer (DaJung) that said she brought her mom from a different country, I was there that day you both came in. I am not mistaken at all, I remember you and it’s unfortunate that you feel the need to lie because you didn’t ‘get your way’, very immature. None of what you’re saying is true. Cindi was very attentive to you both during the intro class. The staff was very kind to you and offered you the option to buy grippy socks if you didn’t have them already. It’s for your own safety. The staff did not give you dirty looks. You just didn’t want to pay for grippy socks or pay for a membership. The other bad reviews are from Karens that feel entitled and do not feel that they should have to follow the business policies and procedures. It’s not fair to people who are looking for honest reviews of the business. The location is convenient with plenty of parking. Whole Foods is next door in case you need a quick snack afterwards to refuel. The staff is very flexible in regards to rescheduling, canceling, etc. your classes, you just have to open your mouth and communicate like an adult if you cannot make it to a class. I had an amazing intro class last week; my instructor was Cindi. She was patient and didn’t push me to do what I wasn’t comfortable with; she modified certain excercises for me because of my height and limited mobility. For context, I have an Achilles tendon injury so I haven’t been able to workout as much as I want to over the past year. These classes are great for those who are looking for low impact, full body workouts. The studio is super clean and not intimidating at all. The staff is always professional, kind and helpful.

Wow, what a terrible attitude by the staff here. Sure, I failed to wear the correct socks for the very first class I attended, but they did not need to be so disrespectful and nasty about it. Felt extremely judged and discriminated. I brought my mom and told them she’s visiting from a different country, and they gave us the dirtiest look. I felt so uncomfortable and told the lady before the class began that I’d leave, and she said “that’d be great, bye.” Shame on you. I do not recommend this business to anyone. It seems so unwelcoming and unaccommodating like the other reviews said.

To Nzhingha who commented on my review:

Congratulations on finding the workout place that fits your vibe. But you do not have the right to tell me “they didn’t give you dirty looks” unless, you are me? You also called other one-star reviewers “Karens” who are entitled. Who are you to judge and deny people who wrote about their own lived experiences? Why bully reviewers you don’t even know? I have to wonder if you work here, because the vibe your review gives off exactly matches this studio’s vibe.

And to clarify, I already said and admitted in my review that I failed to wear the correct socks. And yes, like you said, I chose not to purchase their expensive socks (you said ‘Cindi was nice to you both during the intro class’ but we did not actually take the class and left—so you may even be mistaken). My other points about feeling judged by the staff are also truthful from my POV, not yours. You weren’t part of my one-on-one conversation with the staff.

So, you do not need to be policing others’ honest reviews and saying what’s true or not true. Sharing/hearing subjective evaluations is the very purpose of having Google reviews. Just because you had a good experience, it doesn’t mean that everyone’s experience must be the same. In fact, I see you’ve written a one-star review yourself and called someone dismissive and disrespectful at a different business—so let others share their opinions too.

I am not typically one to take classes but a friend convinced me to sign up with her. 1 1/2 years later I am still enjoying Pure Barre. The instructors are great and have provided so much insight. I always feel challenged! Thank you Pure Barre in Edgewater!

The teachers and the classes are good, however I recommend going to a different location. The timings of the classes are not great and they are usually full so it’s hard to book a class, the classes are not at the same time everyday, and they will not work with you to extend the expiration date of classes so you end up losing a ton of classes you paid for. Every other studio I have been to in the city, in Philly and in Florida have been more accommodating.

I absolutely love this Pure Barre location! The staff and instructors are extremely welcoming and willing to answer any questions. I have a mild shoulder injury and can always count on the instructors to give me modifications. Injury prevention and correct form are paramount at this location and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a low impact workout that still yields results!

This place has a stuffy vibe overall. Not that welcoming or the type of place you can come get a fun workout without judgement. They are pretty pricey as well, and they haven't been wearing masks since long before the mandates were removed. 2 stars is for the workout regimen itself, but I would try a different pure barre next time.

I was a runner. I tried barre 3. But boy oh boy pure barre is totally a different animal. Pure barre Edgewater is more than just a gym. The members and staff here are like your second family rooting for you every step of the way in anything you want to accomplish. It works out your whole entire body in ways that you can’t even imagine. I had multiple people come and try it out with me and everyone who tried it out came back for a membership. I highly recommend Pure barre Edgewater

A truly awful business. They care more about profiting off someone than anything else. I would try pure barre again but I will never come back here. $180 charge that I wasn’t made aware of and they refuse to refund me. Only truly disgusting people operate their business that way.

In response to the owner: I was offered LESS than what I purchased and ONLY if I renewed my membership. To reiterate my point-I should have been offered the exact amount of classes I purchased before I got COVID-19 with or without renewing my membership. I bought those classes! I don't understand why I couldn't use them after my recovery. I never requested for a refund. My request was more than fair. I cannot support a business where an owner is forcing a person who just recovered from COVID-19 and wanted to slowly get back to a routine after being sick and in pain for weeks to renew their membership to get maybe half of the classes they purchased back.

Bought a membership right before I tested positive for COVID-19. I lost my sense of taste, smell, had awful back pain, low energy, had trouble breathing for weeks. I finally got around to working again and reached out to this studio to see if I can use the classes I bought (since they expired apparently) and the only way I was able to use the classes was if I renewed my membership. I didn't even request for a refund I genuinely wanted to workout. I had every intention of renewing but not being flexible and honoring the classes I had bought while I had COVID with or without renewing left a bitter taste in my mouth. Going to a different studio because of this. I have zero interest in giving the owner the business. I was coming here with my SIL and we're both no longer going for lack of empathy and understanding during a global pandemic.

I can not recommend this studio enough, in the mist of a global pandemic they have managed to create a wonderful supportive community. All the teachers are wonderful, they have classes from 6 am to 6 pm and the app makes booking easy. After a year of zero activity I was pretty intimidated to start working out again but I’m so glad I did and happy I was able to find such a lovely community.

I moved to New Jersey in 2020 and noticed that a pure barre studio opened up next to Whole Foods. I went to pure barre a few times when I used to class pass it in manhattan back in the day. I like class with cindi and Ashley and think they are delightful. Monica, the owner, is also super friendly and inviting. I try and come 2-3 times a week. The classic workout is challenging but worth burn. Also the monthly unlimited is only 169, which beats the 300 dollars a month that they charge for pure barre in manhattan.
