Trained at this gym for years and unfortunately had to cancel due to a change of location. If you're looking for a real gym; not a commercial, crowded, and trendy fitness center, then you have come to the right place. Truly one of the last of a dying breed. Kent and Joe are awesome owners, who do everything they possibly can to accommodate their members. Very open in communication, and actually care about their concerns. It really feels like you are a part of a family when you enter. One of the few gyms I have worked out at (and I have been to a lot) that actually made upgrades and changes in my years of being there. I am grateful I was able to live so close to such an amazing gym, and I pray they are able to be a successful business for generations to come.

It’s just like the owner says—a REAL gym. Old school equipment, free weights, and the most supportive atmosphere around. If you’re looking for a prissy gym where you’re just another member—this is NOT it. The gym is filled with Kent’s trophies and medals, a testament to his lifelong passion for fitness. There are members of all ages, at different stages in their fitness journey, and Kent knows them all by name. Proud to have been a member for over 10 years—through postpartum weight loss to fighting cancer. Pure Focus truly is the only real gym around and I would never go anywhere else!

The owner refused to cancel my friend's membership. Their rebuttal for not having adequate A/C was to come "when it's not sunny out." Overall, unprofessional communication and non-existent customer service

Horrible experience with both the gym and the owner, Kent.

I went to workout the same night I signed up to find out there is no working AC. Something unimaginable in a heat wave at a cramped gym where you sweat. I immediately called the next day to cancel and was suggested to try again as the AC was broken but now repaired. In addition to uncomfortable temperatures, there is no water fountain and no wipes to clean machines upon use. You can call it "old-school" or "no frills," but it's really just unhygienic. There was visible dust on machines.

When I confirmed my decision to cancel, Kent shook his head and refused eye contact as he argued that I should come on a cloudy day when the sun isn't beating through the windows all afternoon (no blinds installed despite half the building being windows).

He proceeded to tell me he'd mail me my refund, since he doesn't carry cash on him. Several weeks go by and to no surprise, no check. When I finally called him, he pretended to be someone else by taking a message down. Kent never called me back.

You will also see that on their website, it says to call about a free trial. When I inquired about it in person, the staff member responded with the cost of their day pass. Not sure why they have misleading information on their site, or why they choose who to offer it to.

Pure Focus is an amazing old-school gym. Something that’s becoming harder and harder to find these days. I’m in the military and was home on leave when I heard about this place, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment you walk in, you get that gritty, no-nonsense vibe: real iron, clanking weights, and people there to put in real work.

Kent was a true pro and took great care of me during my visit. If I lived in the area full-time, this would be my go-to gym without question. I’ll definitely be back every time I’m home on leave. Pure Focus is a gem for anyone who loves real training in a serious, authentic environment.

This is exactly the type of gym you would expect from someone who is passionate about and dedicated to body building. Pure Focus is not a corporate gym. It's a place with a unique atmosphere. Check it out!

Old school body building gym with character. You can tell this is owned by someone that cares about the sport of body building. This is not a cookie cutter designed by AI modern gym..this is good people improving themselves. Check out Pure Focus!

When in town for the holidays, I was looking to go to a gym that was more about lifting than cardio classes. And pulling up to the gym, that was immediately obvious by the equipment (and array of trophies). They have everything you need here - racks, platforms, weights (even calibrated), every type of bar I've ever seen, and machines (among other things), all set up in the minimum amount of space possible to cover nearly every exercise possible. People were there to lift weights and did just that. Staff is super helpful, and day price pass is very reasonable ($12). Will def be back

Was a member here for over a year, sad to leave as I moved too far away to make it work. Great old school gym with good people and a good atmosphere. Definitely recommend over the many chain owned gyms in the area

My son brought me here for my birthday. It was a mix of older and younger gentlemen with the intent of working out. A few ladies also. No jack wagons screaming while trying to hurt themselves by lifting too much. The staff was great. There was a feeling of community. The locker rooms needed a bit of TLC. That is it. If I lived close by I would have my own membership

Pure Focus is one of the few left in a dying breed of hardcore gyms. Great combination of new/old school machines that work to get the job done. Amazing atmosphere run by an amazing guy who cares about his members. If you're in the area or just looking for a gym w/ that old school feel this is the place to check out!!

This is a very unique gym. The equipment is lined up in the order of a standard workout, so no jumping back and forth. The owner, Kent Bierly is there from early morning and he cares about you and your workout; your life and your business if you choose to share, too. He has been coaching people to win competitions in bodybuilding, physique etc for decades. His coaching includes everything: precise guidance on food, cardio, vitamins, weightlifting, rest, injury avoidance/ recovery, cheat meals, bad days, therapy, etc. I feel lucky to be part of this gym.

Pure Focus is the last of the genuine old school gyms with old and new school equipment. Most of today’s commercial chain gyms can’t replicate what’s been created at Pure Focus. Wonderful staff, great equipment, good gym goers and any extremely clean gym, especially during the time of a pandemic. They go to great lengths to keep the gym clean, updated and a great environment for men, women and students alike. Highly recommend it. Feels good supporting a local business as great as this one.

This was honestly the most unprofessional fitness club I’ve ever been to in my life and I’ve been a member of 8 different gyms in my life. The owner tried charging my card additional fees and had nothing to say when confronted. Then once I left the gym as I followed correct protocol on leaving, they continued to charge my card and then sent the fees to collections with no explanation. I love to support small business and it is a shame that they continued to try take advantage of me. They also have different prices for different members. I had talked to people that were paying $20 a membership to people that were paying $40 for that same membership. Another thing that rubbed me the wrong way whenever I brought up the questionable charges, the owner could never even look me in the eye. Bottom line, if you are looking to try a new gym - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH PURE FOCUS.

If I could give a negative star rating I would. This review is not about the gym itself, or whether it has a great atmosphere or awesome equipment. This review is about a business that did not follow the executive order set forth by the NJ Governor since March 2020 in response to COVID19.

Attached to this review please find a screenshot from a representative of this business threatening me via Facebook messenger in response to a post expressing my disgust for remaining open during quarantine. At this time I also witnessed multiple other people get verbally harassed for speaking out against this business for breaking the law.

Whatever opinion you have, politically or otherwise, you can form your own opinion on the business and their practices based on what I have shared today. A police report has been filed and necessary actions will be taken if the harassment continues.

Whether you choose to go to this gym is completely up to you and your moral compass.

This is a great gym for strength/barbell training.

I live in LA and was visiting my folks in Brick and needed to find a gym to workout. It's usually difficult to find a good gym for strength straining as there aren't enough squat racks, room to deadlift, enough benches, lousy barbells, etc. etc. That's not the case at Pure Focus. Tons of equipment, great environment, great staff, and reasonable prices. Can't say enough positive things. I'll be back whenever I'm in NJ!

If you want to get strong, this is the place. If I lived in or near Brick, I'd be a regular for sure.

This gym has literally the worst customer service you can possibly imagine. Worse than any chain gym. Worse than American Airlines. Worse than Comcast.

Seriously. Absolutely atrocious, to the point of absurdity. Don't waste your money or your time. Go *anywhere else* - it'll be a better experience, guaranteed.

Excellent old school style gym. 24 hours has been a god send for my crazy schedule. But even if I had to go during normal hours plenty of benches and squat racks so I can’t imagine I’d have to fight too hard to find one during the day.

This best gym on the Jersey Shore. Power Racks, Squat Racks, Competition Benches--what more do you need? Plus, it is family run by a 30+ year natural professional bodybuilder and his wife. Great people, great atmosphere, and more equipment than you could ever use/need.
