I was a welcomed member at the Fair Lawn, NJ Retrofitness for 4 1/2 years. It was a great gym to work out at. I liked the state of the art cardio and weight machines. I also liked the classes, watching the movies of the day, and the smoothie of the week specials. Affordable and convenient location. The cons. I lost trust in the managers Andrew and Samantha. I ended up hating them. When things went wrong, they slandered and banned me from the gym. They misused information. They stopped being super friendly and got very nasty. They had been on their best behavior because they wanted a 5 star review. Over 4 years later, they slandered again and told me for the first time that I was banned in the first nasty reply to this review. In the 2nd and 3rd reply, person apologizes and thanks me for feedback. I stopped emailing and contacting the gym a long while ago. Andrew started a fight with me one evening when I brought it to his attention that the movie language had gotten changed to Spanish. He said I would have to watch it in subtitles. He called me a racist and accused me of yelling at him when I got upset. I also overheard Andrew backbiting me to the staff. Andrew also blamed me when there was a problem with the cardio machines and HD TVs. My membership suddenly came to an end in June, 2021. It happened after I made a complaint about another incident I had with the night cleaning guy. I received very nasty emails from Andrew and Sam in which they lied for him and verbally attacked me. Andrew again called me a racist. After I complained to customer service, the management terminated my membership without telling me. Lucky that I did not go back. They also lied to an investigator that I had committed violations, did not follow rules, and that my behavior was inappropriate and disruptive. I was a well behaved member who just went there to work out. Being the Retrofitness was privately owned, I was not able to get corporate to help me. I failed to get anyone to save my membership. They were on the cleaning guy's side. The cleaning guy was rude and lost his temper at me. I was no longer able to use the gym without him bothering me, watching me, loitering near me, and making unwanted approaches and embarrassing loud comments when he was there. He gossiped about me in Spanish. On my last day, the cleaning guy made an approach in front of me at the counter, said something in Spanish and started laughing. A member said to him that he did not understand Spanish, but he knows what that means. A repeated incident. The cleaning guy constantly walked into the ladies locker and bathroom which was next to the showers and changing area. He kept firing the female assistant. Some of the male staff shouted when they spoke to me. I got frustrated with the cardio movie room. Members talked on their phones or to each other. I could no longer watch movies in the movie room when it got moved to the smaller studio. The sound and view was bad. I had to watch the movie on the cardio machine with the HD TV. I also read 100's of reviews about the bad business practices that went on at the Retrofitness. People complained in the reviews that collections came after them after they cancelled. Former members who I spoke to also had the same problem. They got charged during Covid. A former member who got victimized by the unauthorized charges was not allowed to sign up again until he paid it. News 12 reported that a NJ bill will require the Retrofitness to provide an online option for the gym member to cancel their membership. I also read that members who signed up for training programs were subjected to unauthorized and illegal charges. I read that members were even charged 1500 dollars. There were also bad reviews about the manager Sam. People complained that she was very nasty and rude and that her customer service was very bad. Samantha stalked a member with emails and texted messages. I saw the Undercover Boss episode in which the owner of the Retrofitness fired Jackie. Sam and Andrew are worse than Jackie and should be fired.

I have been a member of gyms for over 30 years. Retro Fitness in Fairlawn is no doubt, the best gym I have gone to. I have been a member for 5 years and cannot say enough about the owner , Bob, who is there regularly. Sam and Andrew are his staff running the show and in this sensitive time with COVID-19 precautions the gym is impeccably cleaned and maintained. 5 stars is well deserved for this establishment.

Find me another fitness facility where at 5 AM you will find one of your GM's (of the year...nbd) literally pouring sweat while working on the latest construction renovation. Andrew straight up holds the weight of Retro Fair Lawn on his shoulders, but he does it with ease and pride. I feel like the morning staff, led by Andrew, set the tone for the operations of the day. Whether it's Kev giving you a warm welcome and a deep convo to go along with your shake, or Rachel with constant positive vibes and energy ready to pump you up; your day is guaranteed to start out strong with them. From morning to afternoon to night, you will find the same positive mindset and friendly welcome from every staff member. Issues don't exist because the turnover on every problem, small to large is handled smoothly without missing a beat. In a world of 10 billion types of fitness facilities, options, and gimmicks; Retro Fair Lawn still holds it down as a Super Power. It has always been a community within a community, and the volume they get can only be seen as positive, it will never feel too busy. Etiquette and behavior among members is so important, and it's a 10/10 here. Sam absolutely crushes it with the health, fitness, and nutrition operations and the way she and Andrew take pride in their facility can't be matched. With such a talented group of fitness instructors and personal trainers, there's literally no reason you shouldn't be getting a top notch workout when you step foot into the door. The key thing about ownership with Bob, is that he lets the creators create and the innovators innovate, and that is why Retro Fair Lawn continues to have it's stranglehold over the fitness world.

I really like working out at the retro in Fairlawn because the staff is always pleasant. They greet you as soon as you walk in the door. The machines are well kept, and they also have Sanitizers all throughout the gym to help Motivate us to also keep it sanitized. I know my level includes the massaging chair room and standing tanning although I am still new and have not used them yet. There are all types of classes and your pick of workout equipment especially the core workout area. Everyone there is helpful and if you buy at least 8 training sessions it goes down to 30.00 a session. If you run out of your pre workout concoction they will make it for you and they cost less than 5 dollars. Also, for me, it’s convenient to get to. This means little though without the people that run it and they have all been pleasant and helpful so far.

This is an excellent gym.
The gym is open with very convenient much longer hours than most of the gyms in both NY and NJ!
Very disciplined ,clean and modern atmosphere.
Managers are dedicated ,sincere ,up-to-date in technology as well as in fitness skills.Highly talented and skilled instructors teach various group classes which includes but not limited to the wonderful dance classes ( 6days a week!!) Enjoy various Genres like latin( zumba),international dances. aerobic dancing , recently on friday some new genres !(bachatta,salsa etc)
This gym also has a wonderful smoothie bar which caters to your particular diet requirements.

I have been a Retro Fitness member for 9 years. In that time, I have done numerous classes (Zumba, Pilates, Booty Burn, Boxing, and more) and personal training sessions. There are so many things I love about this gym including the staff, other members, class variety, and supportive trainers. It's very clean, and new gym equipment is often added. Recently, they built an additional weight room as well. Further, Andrew and Sam listen to feedback and always try to accommodate members' needs. In terms of trainers, I have worked with Don, Amanda, and Taylor, and they all work hard to tailor workouts to the client, being especially mindful to find alternatives if the client has injuries. I highly recommend the Retro Fitness Fair Lawn location.

I like that people re-rack their weights (main reason why I left my previous gym was because no one was re-racking their weights). The equipment is in good condition. I LOVE the squat room. I like that there are mirrors on most of the walls so I can check my form. I also really like that Fair Lawn is open very early during the week. Garrett was great to work with in my welcome workout. Overall, Retro Fitness in Fair Lawn has great energy and I have been really enjoying my membership here so far.

A great gym. Has a lot of different machines, and the people working there are really nice. It has a smoothie bar, cardio machines, a squat room, and a lot of mirrors. It gets pretty busy on the weekends and during the week around 5pm but that's to be expected from a big gym.
For the chest machines, it has plate loaded machines, cable chest presses, machine chest presses, different chest incline machines. It has plate loaded shoulder press', shoulder press machines, dumbells, cable presses, and other shoulder machines. It's got similar machines for working out your back, playe loaded and other machines. Both iso-lateral and regular types. And for legs, there is a lot. It's got hack squats, v-squat machines, squat racks, hip abductor and abductors, leg extensions, seated hamstring curls, lying leg curl machines, calf raises both sitting and standing, and other machines. It's really got everything you need and then some, you'll never blame it on the lack of machines for a bad workout. The locker room is also roomy, and has nice bathrooms.
With a premium membership you also get a tanning room, red light room, and other benefits like personal trainers and the likes. Fun gym, I recommend it highly.

Retro Fitness in Fair Lawn is solid. They have a good variety of equipment and just added a new squat room with 4 squat racks. They also expanded the gym about a year or two ago.

The Good: great equipment. friendly staff, abundant parking, low price. The Bad: more crowded than ever, bags/bottles/clothes/phones clutter floor & section dividers or are left to "reserve" equipment, guys with big headphones drop machine stacks. The Ugly: groups of chatty, phone-centric teens invade after 3 to mostly waste time, space and take shirtless locker room selfies. I'd pay triple to avoid the annoyances.

I’ve been coming to this gym for approximately 8 years. Starting last year I transitioned to the Wayne location because this one became too overcrowded. Every time I walk into this gym, no matter the day or time, every single machine is taken. Clean gym, friendly staff, but you can’t keep running new member promotions when you don’t have enough room to fit people.

Coach Don genuinely changed my life. He has shown me a level of confidence and strength within myself that I didn’t know was possible. What’s special about RetroFitness Fair Lawn? THE PEOPLE! The staff is amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly, genuinely interested in what’s going on with their members. The members? Awesome. There’s a reason I refer to the gym as my Retro Family. You will form bonds with the members…not necessarily chatting…unspoken bonds. I enjoy the classes, but I wish there were more in the evening in addition to morning. Otherwise, the facilities are always clean, staff and instructors are always polite and friendly. I enjoy using the machines, as they are always clean and fixed quickly if necessary.

Disappointed that they got rid of child care. If my husband and I want to work out together we can't now. We have to take turns. So many moms in town have mentioned how upset they were because of this. We've all joined LA fitness in lodi because of this. Sucks to drive that far but I like to give my patronage to a gym that supports mothers and families.

Retro in Fair Lawn is probably the best gym I’ve been too. It is always clean and in top tier shape, the staff is great, and the vibes are incredible, I absolutely love it. Retros doesn’t feel like a gym it’s a community that supports and motivates one another and as a fitness enthusiast you couldn’t ask for much more. Keep up the incredible job and to all retro of Fair Lawn staff thank you for what y’all do to keep the gym in tip top shape day in and day out! Round of applause to y’all, definitely recommend!

The Best Gym in New Jersey! Thank you to Sam, Andrew, Bob and all the staff and trainers. They continue to update all the equipment and they are stocked with new prep meals and snacks daily. This is a great gym for the price. If you’re here to work out then the staff are friendly, accommodating, and overall it’s a positive experience. The reason for the two stars is due to the class I tried. I was interested in the Zumba class with Elena. The class was horrible - not welcoming to beginners/first timers whatsoever. The regulars in the class knew all the steps and I found the complex and quick-changing routines impossible to follow. The instructor didn’t provide any assistance to or even acknowledge the 2 newbies in the class and only attended to those who knew the routines perfectly. I’ve done Zumba before and it’s been a welcoming experience that anyone new can catch on to, no matter your age or skill level. I will be looking for Zumba classes elsewhere.

Been going here for quite some time now and after having not only been a member of several gyms but also working at them and in the fitness world, Retro in Fair Lawn continues to bring it pound for pound above the rest. Management between Sam and Andrew is seamless and I’ve never seen such fast and efficient turnover with updating/fixing/maintenance of equipment. Staff is always engaging and friendly. Everyone that works there seems to truly enjoy being there, and what they do. That’s a product of having a great team top to bottom. Super clean (always has been, pre-covid it was always this way), updated, and constantly evolving by adding new features from selling apparel to prepared meals to go; on top of their endless shakes/drinks/healthy supplements options. I’m too spoiled so if I ever had to go elsewhere I would be disappointed simply by default in comparison to this. 1000/1000 times it’s Retro in Fair Lawn for me.

I’m not a member at this gym, I just go for their delicious protein shakes. The 5 star goes to both Andrew and this other lady staff who happened to one day fix my drink when Andy wasn’t available. I was a little hesitant, buuuuuttt, she did that. I have a backup receipt which provides all the ingredients to help make it easier if I have to choose someone other than Andy when he’s away. So today, whew Chile, where do I begin….thank God for Andy and the other nice lady staff for setting such a high bar because baaaabbbyyy when I tell you, whoever the guy staff was today that made my drink needs to be assigned a different duty….effective freaking immediately. My protein shake was not proteining or shaking….no exaggeration. I got a darn glass of iced milk with nothing but a griddy vibe from the powders floating throughout my drink. I have to go spin the block again and make sure I go during the time when either my boy Andy is there or the other lady staff. That $9 spent was a charity donation at this point because I was not going back until I know for sure my two faves are there. Not going to give no names, but you know who you are knowing good and darn well you didn’t know what you were doing. That’s the “ONLY” negative thing I have to say about this location. Dang I wish I took a pic before pouring that glass of milk out. Next time I’m paging Andrew over the loud speaker and warrant him to come make my shake….Lol 😂

Update: I am now a member. This location’s vibe is literally a home away from home type vibe. Love it here💕
