I have been a member of Retro Fitness in nyc for years, never once had an issue. I recently moved to New Jersey and started going to the Middletown Retro Fitness. This gym is poorly managed, the pins for the cable machines are always missing. The plates are missing their rubber casing and I cut my hand on the rusty metal due to them being stripped. Its always crowded in the afternoon by teens that throw the weights around, scream and run around while simultaneously hoarding a machine.

Again today went and worked out on one machine and one of the five I use was available and then that was it either guys sitting and texting or just sitting, left after ten minutes this place sucks to get a good work out in. WHY do guys have to bring phones to a gym.

It's a little on the small side for free weights (2 squat racks and 1 deadlift platform), but At the time I signed up it was only $20/ month, and for that price point this is an incredible gym. Plenty of cardio equipment and machines.

I've been to every retro fitness from Patterson New Jersey all the way to Wildwood New Jersey .. I give this gym a 2.5 .. this gym super smart for where it's at by the way it looks from out side looks huge but it's not the Gym in Neptun is way bigger.. they dnt have a lot of 45lb plates so if u a big guy like me how goes heavy might as wait until someone is done using their plates ... Now to the free weight section .. there's only 5 benches like y ?? your gym is in a busy location should be way more then 5. there where ppl waiting to use them ... This gym is good for only machines .. other then that I don't recommend this place unless u come here super late when no ones here bc this place be super packed

I have been going to this retro for a year and a half and have been unsatisfied every time I went. I am a current college student with not a lot of money to spend but this summer I have spent 250 dollars for three months of going here which is absolutely ridiculous. Not only that but the equipment is always dirty and the bathrooms are never clean. I would not recommend going here if you are younger bc it is very unaffordable.

Being a member for over 2 years, I feel at home at RetroFitness. There's great variety of machines. If one goes down, they are repaired quickly! And the staff is always friendly and diligent. It's never too crowded- I usually go in the morning and there are always free machines and treadmills.

Everytime I come to this place I’ve notice no janitor working. They constantly out of toilet paper for hrs, soap dispenser missing for 2 weeks with no soap. Unsanitary gym with no one checking for these essentials. The Only reason I come here is because it’s local, but sometimes rather make that drive to the other nearby retros.

Gym wouldn’t be terrible if it wasn’t for a group, particularly one of this group, but they all have to go. The one individual in particular is the most immature obnoxious child I have ever encountered. He continues to scream at the top of his lungs and yell as he struggles to work out. He has no clue what he is doing and all it does is bother everyone else there. Apparently he has been warned but he still continues to act like a 5 year old. Might have to cancel my membership if they don’t kick him out

I honestly enjoy the gym, it’s sufficient regarding weight training equipment.

The main problem is coming in the evening and having to suffer the loud yelling from the children in this gym. Staff just turns a blind eye to it and does nothing.

Was just in town visiting family for the weekend, and saw this local gym had a free day pass. Signed up, got all ready for the gym and headed over. Started to get set up in the gym when an older female manager came up and asked if we were local. I explained we were not, just visiting for the day. She then pointed to the sign and asked if we could read it instead of nicely explaining that the day pass is only for local residents. While I understand the policy in a tourist area, the manager had an undeniably horrible attitude, and I had already signed up for the pass and driven to the gym with no indication prior that this was the policy. Would not have wasted the drive if this was explained prior. The younger female employee working the counter was courteous the whole time, it was just the manager who felt the need to be rude.

Love this gym, the atmosphere, the people, the equipment. But the only thing that I wish they still did was keep the gym open longer on weekdays. It’s till 10pm now and it used to be till 12pm. I know that a lot of people might not care about that but to the people who work 13hour days like me, having that late night gym time really made a difference because I didn’t have to rush my gym session.

I signed up on the Retro Fitness (Middletown) website to go in for a tour and received a trial/guest pass via email after signing up. This morning I tried to use the pass at the Middletown location and was told they do not accept them and that I could not try out the gym even for one day by the front desk attendant (even after showing him the pass that was sent to me). Needless to say I am taking my business elsewhere. If this is any indication on how they do business I do not want to go there.

I have been coming to this Retro location for 2 years....the staff is always super friendly, and equipment is always up to date. Machines are well taken care of, and benches are reupholstered often. Very clean!!! Staff is always cleaning/dusting. You can tell they take care of this gym. This was a fantastic gym. It was always clean and had a friendly staff. I know there are many of bad reviews on Retro Fitness as a whole (Corporation) but this one is different. Here, they actually allowed me to cancel my membership, without any funny business as seen on other locations. Lynn was very helpful! The Middletown location of Retro Fitness is professional, and in the best words, will not try to rip off their customers who want out of their membership. My only reason for leaving was relocation. I wish I was able to drag the Middletown Retro with me. Overall, it is a trustworthy, clean, and fair gym. Would highly recommend.

Retro Middletown has equipment that is hard to find elsewhere and it is really well kept. Their staff is kind and helpful as well. 5 stars from me!

very friendly staff unlike the matawan location Newman springs is the best but this location is running a close second. A few improvements they can make is upgrade those tv's The pic is so 90's analog . I will say the ceiling fans are ok unlike matawan where fans are blowing right on your back regardless of which treadmill you use . However it would be nice to do away with fans altogether and install AC

Staff is absolutely amazing ! Very friendly . Owners are very attentive to their members. You can tell everyone who works there care about each member. Extremely clean and amazing atmosphere. Favorite gym in the area ! I highly recommend signing up at this location. You will not be disappointed

Retro Fitness of Middletown is the best gym in the area - between the equipment, prices and staff, it is by far the gym to beat! Alan and Stella are always so welcoming and make sure all members feel at home. Joey is beyond knowledgeable and always looks out for your needs above all else! I would not want to be a member at another gym!

The staff is awesome to start with. There's plenty of space and equipment to complete any type of workout that you need. It seems that the place is constantly being cleaned, which is a good thing. Humble and good people workout there and everyone respects your workout time. Rarely, do I get interrupted. They have a special retro shake called the "Dirty Dan" that I get after my workout. They use whole ingredients in it. I recommend it. I've been going for years and have never had a bad experience. This place is different , you need to try it.
