Hands down the worst run business. If my garbage disposal company can send out a memo that their pick up may differ due to a holiday, you’d think a chain gym could do the same. Between disgusting, leaky bathrooms, broken equipment and dust bunny’s overtaking the gym floor, I think it’s time to say goodbye to a place that once felt like home.

Facility doesn’t enforce members cleaning up after themselves at all. The rules of the gym are rarely followed so the weights are everywhere. I highly recommend that this facility tries to do better as the retro facilities that enforce this rule are clearly better organized than this one.

Stacy, the manager, said she was being threatened when told I would tell everyone the negative experience I had at her gym and is trying to use the threat of report to the police in order to get me to not speak. This is inexcusable.

Predatory Gym: does not explain there are late fees (even if you use a debit card), doesn't let you cancel the membership if its within a week of charge. So if your charge is on the 1st of the month and you try to cancel on the 28th then they will charge you for the next month anyway. The facilities are severely lacking for the price and are in a basement. They have maybe 4 clips for the whole gym and a single squat rack. Any "fees" come with an additional "service charge". Go somewhere else.

Edit: Stacy at this gym just told me I was threatening her and she would report me to the police for saying I will tell others of my negative experience at this gym. Absolutely abhorrent behavior. Don't be fooled by the message below.

This gym desperately needs a cleaning crew. Ive never been to a gym where there wasnt a cleaning crew out cleaning the machines and floors constantly throughout the day. It’s unsanitary, you can see clumps of hair and dirt and other trash between the cracks of the flooring and build up of all of that on the turfed area. Its truly disgusting.

If you love broken equipment, then you’ll love this gym! Don’t expect anything to ever get fixed. Need a drink of water? Well the water fountain is broken! Need to go to the bathroom? Guess what! The toilet is broken too! Wanna use top of the line equipment? Go to another gym! And the best of all, the owner will do nothing to fix anything! So come on down to retro in flemington you’ll love it!

Played games crediting back my credit card after cancelling membership. Didn’t get the credit until Visa got involved, and it’s only a temporary credit pending the dispute. Bad business practice. BEWARE!
Blah Blah…..I’m also a business owner and a credit card merchant. Refunds post within 3 days. I was forced to dispute the charge on 6/1/22 because 1 week after canceling the membership, Visa still had no record of Retro Fitness issuing a credit! In fact, as I write this…….there still has been no credit issued. Shame on you!
7/14/22 STILL NO REFUND ON VISA!
7/20/22 finally received permanent credit😎 only took 2 months🤪😳

I unfortunately had an extremely frustrating experience with this retro fitness. I signed up for the Ultimate student membership at a location other than my home gym. I was told this wouldn’t be a problem because I would be able to use any retro facility with my ultimate membership, as well as utilize the classes at any location. The same day I went to sign up for a class at my home location and was unable. I went in person to my home location to try and resolve the issue but couldn’t. I called the Flemington retro to try and resolve the issue, and after being on the phone for 20 minutes still couldn’t. I politely asked to cancel my membership (the same day I signed up) because the features I had paid for weren’t working. That was no problem, and they cancelled my membership that same day. Since the charge hadn’t showed up in their system yet they told me they would initiate my refund once it showed up. I called them back when the charge went through, about five days later, and they said only the owner could initiate the refund process and I would have to wait another five days. It was annoying, but ok. The day my refund was supposed to be initiated I called three times during the day when the owner was supposed to be there, but each time they told me she wasn’t there. The day ended and my refund still wasn’t initiated. I called back in the days to follow for help. We were going on two weeks now with no refund. I called so frequently that as soon as I would ask for a manager they knew exactly who I was without me giving them my name. I finally put in a dispute with my credit card company and the same day the credit card company reached out to them I got a call saying my refund was initiated… that’s awfully coincidental. Tomorrow will be three weeks since I signed up and I still don’t see a pending refund on my credit card. I understand things happen and I am a patient person, but this was absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Now I have no desire to sign up for any retro because if I have a problem I have no confidence that it will be resolved efficiently. Extremely disappointing and frustrating experience.

I love working out, and going to the gym is the best part of my day. Retro Fitness is the only gym in the area that fits my needs. The price is reasonable, the hours are good, and the opening staff are absolutely wonderful. However, there are many things that could be improved about the facility itself.

I've belonged to Retro for about a year. Since I've belonged, one of the mirrors in the basement weight area has been cracked. There are two leg machines that have been "out of order for maintenance", and half of the lights in the basement are broken/nonfunctional. There are three fans in the basement, which are much needed for climate control. Unfortunately one of them does not work at all. The other two could use a thorough cleaning.

Recently I have noticed that there are some other issues that could be easily fixed. There are not enough barbells in the basement, and one of the bars is warped which makes using it uncomfortable. I feel like there should be one barbell per rack/bench, and this is not the case. I've also noticed that one of the paper towel dispensers has been broken for a while, and that the gym could use a coat of paint and other minor superficial upgrades.

Lastly, I wish Retro was more thoroughly cleaned. I see some employees sweeping regularly, but I think the gym - the basement especially - would benefit from a cleaning crew coming in, wiping down all the equipment, vacuuming, and mopping the floor.

I very much want to love my gym. I do think with a little TLC it could be an AMAZING club to be a part of!

ETA 11/10/21 - new barbells have been added and now every bench/rack has a barbell. Thank you for adding this equipment!!

ETA 1/2/22 - the gym is being renovated. Some new lights have been put in, and painting is underway. It is looking good so far. I will update my review again once things are complete!

Unlike a review I read for September 7th, I did not have the same experience on this same day as I visited the same retro fitness between the hours of 11am & 1pm. From start to finish, I found all Covid policies per State regulations to have been properly executed. My temp was taken prior to entry as well as my Covid release/waiver form. I was asked all pertinent health questions prior to entry. I proceeded to go about my workout with a friend and we BOTH cleaned the machines & weights we used both before use & definitely after so for the other review to say nothing was being wiped down is completely false. I did notice a few guys lower their masks at times while laboring to breath, I know one guy has asthma so according to NJ State regs, masks can be taken off if there’s a health risk but then I saw them put their masks back on. So again, I would have to disagree with a prior review about masks not bring worn. I also know there to be security cameras throughout the facility so I am certain management can easily look. I feel like this.....we are all experiencing a different world due to Covid but I try to do my part by wearing my mask and clean up after my usage of the equipment and I don’t put that all on Retro employees. But I’m glad Stacy & her diligent staff try their best to make the gym a safe, fun, and great place to workout!

No enforcement of COVID compliance. I went today and out of the 15 people working out downstairs 11 of them had no mask on including a staff member who was doing the trash. Went I went upstairs to front desk to tell them that same staff member with no mask told me that people don't have to wear a mask and implied that if I have a problem with that then I shouldn't come. It says on retros site that in NJ it is essential that everyone has to wear a mask. I felt very unsafe and unsatisfied with my visit today. Not a single person was cleaning their equipment as well. They should really have someone downstairs to monitor during this pandemic

They will steal your money. Don’t use the personal trainers. Don’t know what they are doing, you pay for half hour but get 15 minutes. If you buy a 3 month program, they automatically charge ove another thousand dollars without notifying you. If you can’t use it, too bad, they keep your money.

The gym is good ,have good equipment and reasonable prices. But when it comes to customer service regarding cancellation the assistance is very poor.they don’t take it seriously, they take it for granted. I joined in this gym in the month of august and in the month of October on my work basis i had moved to newhampshire.i don’t see any closest retrofitness branches near me .there is only one gym which is 89miles from my place . So i’m unable to use the membership benefits. So I thought of canceling and contacted the through phone and email. Then here comes into the picture ‘manager stacy’,when i spoke with her and she said that she gonna cal back regarding cancellation. But she never did, i called her in the month of october and she said that she gonna cal me back in two days and i waited till December .i didn’t even get a message not even a voicemail from her atleast . whenever i call the gym she will be not available and staff says we will leave her your message and number she will get back to you.but she never gives me any call back or an email or atleast message.in between this they charge on my card monthly price without a delay and on time.i think the manger and owners of this gym are busy with ‘thanksgiving ‘ ‘ Black Friday’ ‘ Christmas’ and new celebrations rather than taking care of their customers. I have been not using the gym since from three months and paying them money like a charity.i think they like assisting a customer only to buy a membership but not at the time of cancellation .wow I appreciate your service and valuable time given for customer.keep it up

I am very disappointed with how this club managed my membership cancellation. When I contacted Reto Fitness in Flemington, they advised me that I cannot cancel over the phone so I willingly drove over an hour to cancel in person. They assured me that I would not be charged for the next month. After that I was charged for the month of May even though I had canceled more than 21 days in advance. The club owner refused to reverse the charges.

I would strongly encourage all to reconsider entering into annual agreements with this gym. They’re very unreasonable considering they received two annual payments from me and 11 months of revenue.

This gym upgraded their size from their old location by the shop rite, which is one of the few perks. Unfortunately, maintenance has fallen downhill. Machines are poorly maintained with worn cables, loose bearings, stripped handle grips, and so forth. Some of the aerobic machines have defective tv screens or headphone jacks. They brought the mostly broken and duct taped water fountain from the old location here and installed it downstairs. Lastly, some of the plumbing is messed up in the men's locker room (don't know about the women's room). The upside is everyone is friendly and helpful, including the members. I'll update my review when things improve.

I got persuaded into getting a membership and i despise it there. While clean, you can't really work out without the staff having some sort of issue with anyone actually serious about lifting. One of the worst gyms I've been to. Cant wait to get out of my membership.

I have been working out here since September of 2011 and haven't looked back since. The owners, Becca and Charlie have become great friends, almost like family to me. Kim and the other staff have been there since day one and all of the faces there are familiar. Once again, it's like a big family. It's clean and is always getting new, cutting edge equipment. Charlie is a man who only wants the best for his club. He takes the feedback on what people like or don't like. He also does all of the maintenance on the machines, rather than waiting forweeks for the manufacturer to come in and make the repairs. I would never train anywhere else, even if they were giving away memberships (like some local "gyms" are)
