Walked in to take a quick look at the equipment this place has to offer. The lady at the front desk said she could give me a tour. I said ok. She asked me to fill out a form. I said I didn't want to. She said she couldn't give me a tour if I didn't fill out the form. I said bye and left. Went to a completely different gym down the road and had no issues doing the same. They were super nice and accommodating and didn't make me fill out any dumb forms. Now THAT'S how you do business!

I know its not the owner of the gyms fault, but they need to reach out to the landlord to fix the many large potholes from the time you pull in till you leave, it damages your car and when you go at 530 in the morning and its dark out you can break your ankle or fall into one, I'm only leaving this review because when I pulled in I hit one in the rear that I thought my tire blew out

To clarify: I had no issue with the gym itself. My contract was with the Retro Fitness location in Florham Park. I signed up with that specific location, and everything was fine until I suddenly received a message that the gym was shutting down. This announcement came just days before the doors were permanently locked, leaving me with no prior notice or proper communication.
While I liked the Whippany location, I chose not to go there because it was too far from my home.
When I tried to cancel my membership, I followed instructions given by the gym staff. They told me to call ABC Financial. I did exactly that. However, when I called, the representative,who appeared to be based overseas,told me to go back to the gym and cancel in person. Since I had already taken the steps I was advised to take, and the Florham Park gym was closed, I opted to cancel via email instead. I also sent a physical letter by regular mail, but that letter was returned to me weeks later.
I made every effort to cancel my membership properly.
Despite this, a few weeks ago I received a notice from a collection agency, First Credit Services, stating that I owe $145. I also learned that this amount was reported on my credit report. I attempted to contact First Credit Services for clarification, but I still waiting for their review.
I find it deeply disappointing that after being a paying member for five years, I am now facing credit damage over a relatively small amount.especially when I followed all the instructions given to me at the time.
Can someone from management please review this case and advise on how to resolve the issue? I believe this situation is unjust and should be corrected.

Retro fitness of Whippany exceeds my expectations. From the moment I walk into the door, until I finish my workout and leave the staff is super friendly and professional. Danielle is my favorite worker of all. She is as professional as it gets, as well as accommodating , positive, consistent and uplifting. I look forward to coming to the gym for my workout and seeing her face greet me at the counter. It starts my workout off on a wonderful note. Thumbs up to the staff. I signed up online for a free day pass and then I drove 30 minutes to get there And I brought my parallaxes in. And the lady in the front desk said They don’t allow outside equipment And then she told me I can’t come in because I’m not a resident near the area, I talked to the manager, and she said the same thing. And the manager told me I could spend $10 for a day pass.

I’ve been to multiple Retro Fitness in New Jersey and I always get a free day pass maybe a three day pass. Once I even drove 45 minutes to a Retro Fitness to get a work out with free day And next time, I will gladly $10 to go to that 45 minute drive to the gym because They have good customer service skills and I know The equipment was nice in there.
And I never had a problem with bring My equipment in any other Retro Fitness before.

Why would I spend $10 for a day pass? I don’t know if the equipments is nice and the employees, including the manager, don’t have customer service skills.
That manager is driving away, future customers for being money hungry.

My local Retro I used for 10 yeas just got closed due to its owner’s neglect and mismanagement, so my wife brought me to this location as a guest. I was surprised by its quality, cleanness, order and management. Unlike in my old dilapidated and mismanaged location every machine and piece of equipment here were in a proper working order. TVs on cardio machines have a full spectrum of all news channels and streaming services. Restrooms are good and will get even better after renovations. You walk in and you can see right away that the management actually does manage this gym. My wife takes a few classes there and she loves them so much she hates mussing even one. Their fees are practically lowest in the area, where some clubs, like LifeTime, charge almost $200 per month. Costs vs benefits for this location are unbeatable. I wish they bought my local Retro place and fixed it up. There is absolutely nothing I would realistically ask more for the fees their members pay. They can even enjoy free massage chairs. Please keep it up.

I've tried every gym in the Morristown area, and this is by FAR the best one I've been to. I've been weight training for 15+ years, and this facility has everything I need. It has ample free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. The staff are very friendly. It's not over crowded like other commercial gyms, and they have enough equipment to handle busier times. This is by far the best value for a gym that I've ever received. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I went into the Whippany location to purchase a protein smoothie. The woman making the smoothie who I believe to be the manager was very rude to me and was clearly upset that I was not a member and I was coming into purchase a smoothie. She said, “what? Are you just coming of the street to just buy a smoothie?”. This was highly disappointing and very Embarrassing because I go to Retro Fitness after my workouts to get smoothies all the time. She continuously pressed me about not being a member and was very nasty. She almost barred me from purchasing the drink with out signing a waiver. A nice hidden gym gem in Whippany! I've been going to this gym for over a year now since moving to Morristown in 2020. The gym is very clean and the weights are re-racked so you don't have to go searching for that 15 lb dumbbell or 35lb plate. The gym is not usually packed when I go around 5:30am and around 7:00pm on a weeknight. There have been times when I go to the gym at around 3pm on a weekday and the gym is usually busy. The crowd at this time appears to be mostly young high schoolers/college kids. Even though it is busy, I don't often have to wait long for a machine. The staff is always nice and always greets you hello/goodbye at the door.

The gym has cardio equipment, turf area(for stretching/hiit workouts), usual machines for all body parts, free weight area (with 2 recent additions of a squat rack/deadlift platform), and a couple of benches. Minus 1 star because the free weight area can get crowded during busy times due to the smaller size of the space.

It's a solid gym for the monthly price!

Tip: there is no sign in the front of the building so you have to drive to the back.

My son attempted to cancel his membership at retro in Whippany at the end of December. And they still continued to charged him. And my son told me the manager treated him horribly. I can’t recommend any parent to bring their kids to the retro in Whippany. We used to go to planet fitness and we were treated with respect and dignity. I have been going to the retro fitness in Florham park for almost 11 months and decided to try the location in Whippany since it’s open till 11pm. I told the retro in Florham park back in December 2021 to make it where January is my last month and to cancel my membership since I did not need it anymore. After going to the retro in Whippany for two weeks my membership was moved without my permission to the Whippany location. Later in January I was charged a fee for 53$, annual membership fee. Even though I canceled my member back in December they still charged me again without my permission. I explained the situation to the manager at Whippany retro that my membership was moved without my permission. And that they charged me additional fee even though I canceled my membership. I continued to explain to the manager that my account was moved and that may have messed up the membership cancellation. But she said since I don’t have a proof/sign document showing I canceled my membership she would not refund me. If I knew that I needed to sign or have proof of my cancellation of my membership I would have done so. The manager was extremely rude, nasty, and did not have an ounce of compassion. And shrugged off my issue as my problem. I am college student and I can’t recommend retro fitness in Whippany. They treat their paying customers like trash. Charger their customers without their permission and don’t have any compassion towards their customers. And I can’t recommend retro in Whippany to any college students or high students. Your better off at planet fitness. At least at planet fitness they show compassion and understanding not like retro at Whippany.

Very small.. a little too intimate for my taste personally. Equipment is very dated.. mostly Star Trac machines/cables. One Iron Grip dumbbell rack up to 120lbs, no 2.5lb increments in the smaller weights (10-40). Locker room also very small.. air dryers only, no paper towels. Retro has also shined since covid because they are constantly cleaning, checking temperatures, making sure there are always wipes to clean everything down, and making sure it’s a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. On the plus side: very clean, convenient location and most staff are pleasant.

I cancelled my membership due to frequent issues with broken cardio equipment, which was the main reason I joined.

Also very poor communications on (non-COVID) emergency closures for maintenance. ("you should check our Facebook page before coming" was what I was told after a 20 minute drive, only to find the club closed on a Saturday morning)

Management was unresponsive to complaints/suggestions on both issues.

I love this gym. I started coming to this location full time after the location by my home closed. They keep everything clean, even before covid there was always someone around wiping down machines. I love that there's rarely any machines that are out of service, and if they are they have them back up and functioning much quicker than the location I used to go to (again, a pre-Covid comment as some machines are closed off for social distancing now). The way the gym is laid out there's always room to workout without feeling cramped for space.

Love this gym! It's small, but there is plenty of equipment to be had, even some more specialized things that I have rarely seen. I just wish there was a dedicated spot or platform to do deadlifts! It's hard to find a spot to deadlift where you aren't in the way and it's hard to set them up on the floor.

The gym is always organized and impeccably clean. The staff are extremely friendly as well and have a ready to answer to any question.

It is a little hard to find initially as there is no signage on the main road (apparently a town ordinance prohibits it?), but my GPS takes me directly to it. Don't let that stop you!

I love everything about Retro Fitness in Whippany! I had tried many gyms and workout routines (CrossFit, PureBarre, etc.) and I have found that this gym and the STRONG and TEAM members and instructors are absolutely fantastic. I have made friends and it feels great to know I have both gym members and instructors that are so encouraging and help me keep on track. They are very open and inclusive; I have found other places could be a bit clique-y. The instructors Matt, Christy, Jon and Danielle are just amazing and they make me want to continue with my fitness journey. Even when I would disappear for a year because I had a kid, they always welcomed me back with open arms and never made me feel bad about disappearing for a bit. Whenever I return, its like I never left! I thank all of them so much!!

Unlike many of the Retro Fitness franchises the owners of this gym are almost always there. Frank not only manages the gym on-site but also works out at this gym. He has first hand experiences when gym equipment needs service and jumps right on it. The place is clean and there is no gym smell. The gym has a diverse clientele from professionals to housewives to ink folks and real gym rats. Everyone respects each others privacy and nobody makes a lot of noise or throws weights around. Staff when not busy cleans the premises.
I've been a member of several different gyms and this one is really good. I do wish I could buy a diet Coke on the way out the door but this is forbidden by corporate policy so I bring my own in a a cooler. I am a little suspicious of vitamin water and muscle milk. If push came to shove I would take Starbucks Coffee.

would be 5 stars but really depressed you took out the movie room to make it a personal training room that people only use a couple times a day -__- . The movie room was a great escape and one of the gems about retro.. now its just as normal as a planet fitness or an LA fitness......... sigh

It is a clean gym with friendly staff. They close at 11 on weekdays and 7 on weekends which is probably the only downside.
