For the gyms childcare, I have been bringing my 2 children now almost 7 and 2.5 since they were about 6 months old, and Sue along with her amazing team have been wonderful! My baby girl was very difficult to adjust, but they were so patient and let me have my hour and a half of freedom to get my work out and shower in, just that little self care saved me, especially when I was going through a really difficult time not to mention post partum. My kids now both love going to the playroom! They have plenty of toys, coloring, activities, but most importantly are in the best of hands. Shouting out the all star team led by Sue, sally, anu, Julia, Emma, Juli, Caitlyn, Hannah and new team members habiba and Hailey, I can’t thank them enough.

If you’re a regular gym goer looking for a clean and well maintained gym, then you can ignore the low rating. I was worried about this gym due to the low ratings until I actually went in and saw it for myself.

The treadmills are the top of the line Matrix treadmills that you can connect your watch with and monitor heart rate. They’re always clean when I go in and there’s never a shortage in of cleaning wipes.

They have every machine you’re looking for in your lifting program and there’s like 100 personal trainers there at all times. The gym itself is one of the better ones I’ve been to in terms of equipment availability. The cost of the gym is high, but I’ve paid way more for way less equipment.

Writing this after a few months of membership.
Staff - In the minimal interaction I have had, generally just check in and collecting farm share box, they are always courteous and friendly.
Equipment - I would rate as generally in good condition, however at more peak times there can be a wait. Also space utilization can make it that you are "on top" of the person next to you.
Lockers - the mens room lockers have sufficient space. On occasion the bathroom area in the lockers is in need of a thorough cleaning

Unacceptable racism and discrimination of RWJ staff. Zero star.
RWJ is lying, I never lived stream in the locker room .etc these private places and there is no staff check on me for three time. Shame of RWJ.
Yesterday afternoon, during a break between group sessions, I was on a video call with my wife. It was a personal and private conversation, and I was wearing my Apple earbuds the entire time — there was no loud noise, and absolutely no one else was visible on the screen.
A RWJ staff member approached me and said someone was concerned I might be recording others. I immediately turned off my phone to comply. Later, when my wife called back to ask what I wanted for dinner, I answered her video call again, and within seconds, a different staff member confronted me and aggressively told me to leave RWJ immediately.
I calmly explained that I was simply speaking with my wife, and again, I was wearing earbuds and not disturbing anyone. I even showed the staff member my phone to prove it was just a video call. Despite this, he raised his voice further, using a threatening tone and saying he would call the police.
What deeply disturbed me is that there were many white individuals openly holding their phones — some taking pictures — yet I was the only one singled out and treated in this way. I cannot accept this blatant act of racial discrimination. It was humiliating, unfair, and entirely unwarranted

Zero star.
I witnessed an incident the day before yesterday at RWJ where an American Chinese individual was approached by staff while on a video call, whereas others using their phones nearby were not disturbed.
Shame of RWJ for lying in the response. The customer never live stream in locker room .etc these private places, also there is no staff check for three time kindly. Only rude to ask for leave directly with racism and rudeness.
This felt like unequal treatment, and I hope the fitness center ensures fair and respectful behavior for all visitors

I understand why this place has 3.3 rating.

I signed up here just two weeks ago, and I already regret it. The entire experience has been terrible. Communication is awful, and no one seems willing to help.

I only joined because I was interested in swimming lessons for my little one, but I still haven’t been able to get any information or schedule them. Reaching anyone is almost impossible. Everything is outdate, everything is done on papers. Everything has to be done in person.

The facilities are okay, but the service and people make the whole experience miserable. They only care about sales, not members. Save your money and avoid this place!

Also, I will receive a response from RWJ team and instead of taking accountability, they will say how I was at fault, just like they response to the other bad reviews. This makes me laugh because they have so much time to reply to these reviews but not help or resolve anything!lol

There are two major problems I encountered: the sauna is subpar (low temperature)and visitors do not follow the rules - some come dressed in sports clothes and sneakers. The second problem is that gym is often overcrowded, especially in the evening.

I’ve been a member at this gym for a while, and I can confidently say it has one of the most welcoming and positive atmospheres around. The staff is friendly, the space is clean and well-maintained, and the overall vibe is super encouraging—perfect for any fitness level.

I especially want to highlight the General Manager, Sharron. She’s absolutely wonderful! Sharron goes above and beyond to make sure members feel heard and valued. She’s open to feedback and genuinely listens to any concerns, always working to improve the experience for everyone. You can tell she truly cares about the gym community.

If you’re looking for a place that feels supportive, accommodating, and professionally run, this is it. Highly recommend!

Crowded, outdated, unhelpful staff. Childcare is unfriendly and cold. In 8 visits, my 4-year-old was never greeted or spoken to - even when she was the only kid there. Childcare providers are sitting in a corner talking to each other while kids stare at the TV. I stopped bringing her. Lines for classes. Lines for machines. No floor space to stretch. It's also like stepping back into 1985. Everything has to be done in-person and on paper. Front desk staff are unable to help with most issues and you have to wait to be ushered into someone's office to take care of the most basic transactions or questions. When I brought concerns, staff was dismissive. Not worth the $ or time. Also, parking sucks.

Can’t imagine RWJ is lying in their response to cover their racism truth. God, please Pay attention on your poor management and unequal service. Shame on that.
Today at RWJ, I witnessed a deeply troubling incident involving an American Chinese individual who was singled out and reprimanded by RWJ staff while engaging in a video call. This act appeared discriminatory, especially when others—predominantly white individuals—were also using their phones freely in similar ways without consequence.

It is disheartening to see such unequal treatment in a public institution. Selective enforcement of rules raises serious concerns about implicit bias and fairness. RWJ should reflect on the standards it upholds and ensure that all individuals, regardless of race or appearance, are treated with the same respect and dignity.

As outdated in appearance this facility is, it has quite the audacity to act pretentious like its in a gated community. My family (family of 5) and I are looking for a fitness facility with elevated amenities, quiet setting away from the clamor of regular gyms, especially for my grandmother and mother. RWJ and LifeTime Gym sparked my interest. I took it upon myself to call and ask about the day pass and the hours, I was informed of the price and was forwarded to the marketing manager and was hung up on. So, I took it upon myself to go in person, I was greeted my two pleasant young women, I mentioned to them I was here to inquire about a day pass. Upon that request, they contacted their "marketing manager", he informed them that the facility doe not give out public passes, that I would have to know a member. I simply turned away, and didn't fuss, and waited in the lobby for my rideshare. Moments later, I over heard the "marketing manger" say "its nothing personal". The "marketing manger" really dropped the ball, very disappointed in his approach, instead of making an effort to take a few minutes to call me over (as I was a few feet away from the front desk) to introduce himself, and MARKET the facility by showing me around, talk about the memberships etc, (which is what I came there for). Instead "its nothing personal". Thankful for this experience, anywhere lacking hospitality and professionalism is not for me!

Having been to numerous gyms over the past 30+ years, I can say that bar none, RWJ Fitness & Wellness is head and shoulders above the others. Not only is there always clean, sufficient numbers and types of equipment all kept in working order, classes, training, and even virtual classes - there is absolutely something for everybody regardless of age, gender or physical condition. Staff and members are friendly, responsive and helpful. I love that it is in a multifunctional building housing not only the gym, child care for those using the gym, a fantastic team handling PT, a great cafe, urgi care center and a senior/community center that seems to have a wide range of well attended programs. I have to give a shout out to Al, Noah, the cafe chef, the cleaning staff, and most especially Maureen in PT and my and my husband's fabulous, knowledgeable, caring trainer NICOLE.

If you want to be harassed by, let me guess, politically-conservative members for wearing a mask while working out and breathing hard (the horror!), or your idea of fun is asking a 20-something member to let you work in while they sit leisurely at a piece of equipment during peak hours checking their phone - here's your gym. "Rules" posted on the walls are not enforced. Floor is overcrowded and trainers sit on exercise benches while they watch their clients, then give you dirty looks if you ask them to move so that you can use the bench to, you know, exercise. I should also note the smelly carpeting in the men's locker room (we thought they'd replace it when they closed during the COVID epidemic - ha!), mold and mildew in men's shower stalls, smelly urinals, and don't look at the steam sauna when it's been off for a while or you'll never use it again. There is so much chlorine in the wet sauna that the fumes sicken me after just a few minutes. Gym has been going downhill for several years under current management (see other recent reviews) but as long as the new member quotas are met I guess their jobs are safe. "So why don't you quit?" After the latest rate increase I am.

I was a member with my family for some time we didn’t use it much but paid more than $70 each. The salon is great the instructors and front desk people are great but the sales people are rude , arrogant , pushy and passive aggressive . They promised me a pass until 12/31 and then when I came in person they didn’t let me said only for one day. Then they didn’t let me make the class they had to have a rude conversation about me first and and held me up telling me all the reasons I need to only had to have one day and I had to sign up today

Surprised at the rating of this gym. I have been a member for many years at RWJ and have also attended many other different types of gyms. I have to say that this gym is hands down the best one I have been a member at. The staff here is great and any issue that has ever come up were quickly taken care of. The machines and weight rooms are always maintained by staff throughout the day. Gym is clean and provides multiple wipe stations throughout. With that you also have the pool, jacuzzi , sauna (both wet and dry) and fitness classes. What else do you want? I think people really need to come to their senses with their expectations. It’s a gym shared by a lot of other people, only so much can be done in a situation like this. I always recommend this gym to friends and family and will continue to do so.

After 7 years of membership, I am leaving RWJ. It used to be a considerate, medically based gym but recently has become nothing more than a corporate money-making machine. They've cluttered the gym floor with too much equipment and allowed membership rolls to exceed capacity after Plainsboro closed and refuse to provide a safe dedicated stretching area that their website promises. Members are being allowed to use free weights, do step-up exercises, jump rope and wide-range exercises in the stretching area. They refuse to recognize the danger and address it. Even after a member dropped a free weight that bounced off the area's floor and broke a mirror. I complained on multiple occasions; their solution was to take the sign identifying the area for stretching down from the wall. If you're older, have orthopedic issues and/or want a safe space to do prone stretching, RWJ is not the gym for you. The GM's response below is a perfect example of how corporate and uncaring this gym has become and oblivious to what their website says they offer.

Great facilities! Trainers make it not worth it. You can't get a workout in with out a trainer blocking equipment to relax. Today the personal trainer, Tom, sat on the free weight rack as he flirted with the person he was training. Did not move even as others tried to pick up drop off weights.

I don't recommend this gym for nothing if on my account for two months then they told me they hadn't paid me and they didn't give me anything and the attention is very bad gym not recommending it at all How can you possibly have people who don't know how to work my kids fried their account for a month each now the general manager says that he can't do anything and he won't return my money that was collected even though frisaron had to frisaron my account for a month is not my problem. I think it's your workers' problem. So this gym I don't recommend it at all. I'm going to get out of there I'm over 15 years old and they don't pay attention to the people who have grown that gym I’m inspector Jasmine they said they can do anything so I live that gym. I’m so sad because couple years ago that gym is one of the best we have right now is the one of the socks we have so I don’t recommend that especially for machine cleans from deck no attention.

I want to express my feelings about one of your instructors at Robert Wood
I was a member many many years ago when your Gym first opened up.

I had moved out of the area and just within the last three months came back.

I just want to let you know how amazing one of your instructors is.

Her name is Val, she’s not just a kind and loving person, but very dynamic!

As tough as her classes are, she always makes you feel comfortable and always cares about each and every one of us!

RWJ is truly blessed to have someone like her!
She is, the reason why I am working as hard as I am with my exercising!

Please share my review in hoping that more people will go to her classes and feel better!
Thank you

I have been a member of Robert Wood Johnson fitness for 15 years. Last Saturday my locker was broken into my lock was busted open and they stole $400 out of my wallet. I talked to management Sharon and Linda upper management. They said there is nothing we can do because we have a sign in the locker room stating management is not responsible for lost or stolen items. I feel like I was victimize and violated in the locker room for what happened. I do think management is somewhat responsible for the safety and the well-being of our members.. I know they cannot put a camera in the locker room but they can have somebody monitor the inside of the locker room. when I signed up, Robert Wood Johnson fitness told me all you need is a accommodation master lock, and everything would be safe. This is not true. I think they should compensate me for my loss.

This gym has a lot of potential. Great bright space and a lot of nice amenities like steam room, sauna and pool. Unfortunately, there appears to be an unwillingness to move with the times and update the equipment towards today’s exercise standards. There’s endless rows of steppers nobody uses taking up valuable space and the setup of the machines is not conducive to any type of functional fitness workout.
Unfortunately, management is not open to suggestions or feedback. Not even when safety concerns resulting from the current setup are brought up.
Luckily there’s no shortage of other gyms around.

I have been a member since RWJ's inception. I cannot begin to tell you the benefits and pleasure it has provided me over the years. RWJ's management has a well run helpful staff and all the members I have come to know are friendly and also supportive. Obviously, when you operate a facility of this size and complexity, sometimes things may need attention. However, management has always addressed the problems quickly and professionally.

They also provide plenty of parking for people with disabilities. Anyone else who complains about walking a few hundred feet to go to a gym and workout should probably stay home on the couch! Unfortunately you cannot please everyone.

Thank you RWJ.

I've been going to this gym for 15 years and the upkeep and service has been declining steadily for a few years. To the point where the front desk rarely greets you when you check in and showers are in disrepair. But my main gripe is the availability of the pool. Either they're doubling up on revenue by taking up lanes with lessons or allowing people to swim all day, it is almost always difficult to get a lane. I used to be very happy here. Update for Nov 2023. I'd like to add one note here. There is a gentleman named Don in the Aquatics area who works very hard to make sure you get into a lane or the other questions or needs you have are addressed. He's been there for a while and does a great job.

I would give zero stars if possible and strongly encourage others to look into other nearby aquatic gyms.

1. Signed up daughter for 8 swim lessons and the instructor no-showed twice within the first 4 sessions. No calls, no apologies-no contact made from the office until I called to request another teacher. The new teacher sees my daughter twice and then the third session she waits until I arrive to say "sorry I'm sick" and asks someone else to cover the session. Does anyone use calendar reminders? They have my cell phone number and can send a courtesy text? Supposedly the new instructor is a "supervisor".

2. The floors of the "family change rooms" are always soaking wet and constantly in use by senior citizens with mobility issues that require upwards of 20+ minutes for changing. The layout of the aquatics center is so poor that seniors use the family change rooms because the regular locker rooms are far and inconveniently placed.

3. The crowds: the therapy pool doubles as the teaching pool so you have multiple 70+ elderly trying to do water aerobics with kids learning to swim. People routinely run into each other because there is no scheduled class structure or space.

4. The front desk staff: only one person is friendly, the rest will try to avoid eye contact even though I have to physically request one of them to check in a swim lesson on the computer.

5. The signage: a sign at the pool says no cell phone usage which is standard and assumed to be no overt phone calls. I was browsing with my head down and was told that was not allowed. Okay, I put the phone away. Another sign also says "no under 16 allowed" but 4 pm onward is full of little kids getting swim lessons. Where is the consistency?

Normally I wouldn't complain about such a petty issue regarding signage but the whole place is a ramshackle building falling apart so this is the icing on the cake. I won't be returning here after our paid sessions are used.

This is a public gym but memberships are required. Pros include a large variety of fitness equipment, three pools, large locker rooms with sauna and fitness trainers for hire. Cons include the fitness areas are very noisy and crowded, there is no one available to help with setting up machines, both members and trainers are self absorbed and inconsiderate when machines are busy and/or unavailable. Space for stretching (essential for a safe and effective workout) is simply hard to find at busier times. Lastly, members seem to workout randomly, without supervision or any guidance at all. Consequently, I've observed more than a few exercise efforts that I would consider unsafe or bordering on dangerous. There was no staff member anywhere available to intervene. Membership packages and training packages are moderately priced.

Hello. I just started going there for the Pool mainly. Recently I took a Snorkeling Class with a local Dive Shop. And want to practice over the winter. They have an Indoor Pool. Shorter and Shallower than the Outdoor one I had my lesson in. But Cleaner. Hot Tub was an Enjoyable Experience. They have Showers. Equipped with Dispensers for Shampoo and Soaps. People are Friendly. More Amenities than I knew about when I Joined. Haven't been to the Gym side yet. Or the Café at the front door. Lifeguards on Duty at the Pool.
Depending on when you go, The Pool is Triple Booked for Kiddie Lessons.

Now that the Plainsboro Gym is Closed, This gym has become more Crowded. Swim at your Own Risk. One day I was Hit by a Swim Instructor in the next lane. Not Once, But Twice. Then I am Sharing a Lane with another Member. Who was doing a Wide Backstroke. Who Almost Drowned me when he Hooked my Snorkel. Pulling my head under and mask off my face. This happened within an Hour of being there.

1 Star Now. Swim Lessons are the Priority. About 30 Kids hogging up Lap and Therapy Pools. 6 Paying Members squeezed into 2 Lanes. I'm Canceling Membership

This is the best bang for your buck you will ever get!! I’m so spoiled here. I tried taking an Orange Theory Fitness class and was appalled at the lack of individualized, one-on-one attention I got. Don’t waste your money going anywhere else. The fitness classes here are top tier. They feel more like small group fitness classes (which, I’ve paid $300 a month in the past at Moxie for) and sometimes they even feel like personal training sessions. All the instructors there care so much about making you feel comfortable, encouraging you, and showing you good form. I cancelled my membership in 2010 and reinstated it in 2021 with zero problems. No hassles no hidden fees. They almost made too easy to leave. (My Planet fitness membership however, was a nightmare to cancel. Do not recommend.) I started my fitness journey at RWJ in November of 2021 and I’ve come so far!! I can’t say enough things about this gym and all the staff! 😊

Updated review:
I would still give it 0 stars if possible. Happy New Year is what I'd like to say. Not only is there increased demand due to the Plainsboro location closing...but they decided to raise the rates again (2nd time within a year). One would think they would change the open hours back to pre COVID 5 AM to 11 PM M-Th, 5 AM to 10 PM F, 7 AM to 5 PM Sat/Sun. Instead we get overcrowding in all areas of the gym for the extra amount we are paying. It appears my last review was accurate and has not changed either.

Old review from 2021:
If I could give 0 stars I would. This gym has become absolutely terrible now. The weight area is the same as any other place with really nothing special. I occasionally go to the pool and they have essentially banned paying members from the pool for "lessons".

The pool is essentially closed from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM during the week with some lanes closed from 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM leaving only less than 8 x 30 minute time slots for everyone to get some laps in. And from 8:00 am (essentially at opening) to 12:00 pm on Saturdays when it is the most ideal time to get in. The lessons do not folllow COVID19 social distancing guidelines and most of the instructors and aquatics staff have a nasty attitude towards members. I have been a member for years and have watched the decline in professionalism and manners.
These issues have been brought up to the general manager, but have fallen on deaf ears.

They gyms hours are currently 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM M-Th, with the pool closing 30 minutes early. 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM F, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sat/Sun. Morning swim appointments are usually filled within minutes of being available. The administration believes there is no demand for the pool, it truly shows they would rather a quick buck versus consistent income from loyal members.

Once they have stopped Plainsboro one, this became densely populated.
Rating is not for the gym or management only but for over all experience.
Today hit the gym around 9:00 AM.
waited for any of the benches or shoulder press equipment for 28+ minutes.
Even if you wait for the bench, one or 2 old lads will feel offended.
Those guys might have never been to any crowded gym or never heard of sharing.
Gym management were quiet on this.

Will give one or more day then will cancel my membership.

After seeing the people I can feel its not at all good environment to workout.

They should open another center nearby

Terrible, please avoid it if you do not want to end up paying hiding fees. I tried to cancel for weeks and they always found an excuse not to see me. Then, when finally sat for canceling my membership I was punished for canceling at the last minute. Anyway, I paid whatever they told me to pay to get rid of them, but 2 weeks later I got a phone call stating that they forgot to charge me for something else. So, my advice to new customers is that if you want to have all types of aggravations go ahead with this headache!

We love this gym! Great value for the money, variety of group classes, aquatic center, sauna, steam room, daycare. Personal training is amazing too. It is expensive, but absolutely worth it! So far no complaints at all! Everyone is nice and helpful. My trainer Magda is supportive and keeps workouts interesting (loved the session in the pool) Overall, 5+ stars!

Facility is beautiful and has some nice equipment. Very disappointing that the studios they show you on the tour cannot be used unless it is during a class. Not even for stretching or yoga. Also, several experiences of being accused of “slamming weights” while deadlifting were quite off-putting. Most staff I encountered were not the friendliest or most accommodating.

They call you with results and if I wanted a paper copy fir my employer, I had to return. They also forgot to do the second test, so I had to return the next day.the next day , I the test was over in a half hour and while waiting I asked for a copy of yesterday's test for my employer, 3x. It's been 40 minutes and still waiting a proof of a negative test from yesterday. Crazy.POOR SERVICES

I don't recommend the pool. Its clean but they don't give you much time to enjoy being there. Almost every time I go I see little children having private classes with the toys floating everywhere. I feel like I am at the day care facility. I love kids and I have kids myself but thats the reason when you want just to have some time for yourself and not to be packed in 6×6 swimming pool with splashing and screaming kids and rubber duckies floating along with you . Trainers act like they own this place . If its not a private class then its a ph class or aqua sculp which doesn't give you much time .

Normally I have no issues at this facility but
I was truly appalled on how the General Manager (Sharon) treated one of the members recently. It was on a Wednesday night and the center was quite desolate when this occurred. As I was stretching and doing mobility I noticed a individual deadlifting on the power rack platform. He was doing repetitions of 500lbs and I was impressed. He was definitely going to go up. 10-15 minutes passed and when I looked over once more to admire this individual’s strength I see a lady with blonde hair confronting him. I take out my headphones to hear what the conversation is about and to my surprise the lady is saying he’s loud and slamming the weights!? The General Manager was literally pressing the individual and maintaining no form of social distance. She even went far enough to say he shouldn’t be deadlifting this weight if he cannot put it down gently. Excuse me miss ? 99% of the population cannot even conventional deadlift 500lbs and the idea of putting it down gently ? It wouldn’t even be healthy to control a negative that’s so heavy. Especially a conventional deadlift which puts massive strain on your lower back as it is. Why are you inches from this individual telling him that he should use mats if he wants to deadlift. Not to mention these soft mats are 3-4 inches off the floor and ends up running the whole vibe of deadlifting. It’s unfortunate when the reputation of decent gyms get hampered by the behavior of the General Manager. Seems like a rude individual with no respect for fitness or members. She could of been way nicer approaching this individual. Now I am uncomfortable to make any form of noise doing any lifts. Everyone is under pressure enough wearing masks and now we have to even lift heavy objects gently? Congrats RWJ has become a more expensive version of Planet Fitness. At least at Planet Fitness the General Manager isn’t ready to jump the member. This my 1st ever negative of review I’ve wrote on a fitness facility. It was injustice.

I am generally satisfied with this fitness center, however I am disappointed that they refuse to accommodate my simple requests to have a second spin bike put out in the main workout area. The spin class starts too late for me so on my cardio days I try to ride the one spin bike that is in the main workout room. The problem is that frequently there is someone else on it. Meanwhile is a whole room of bikes where every other one is off limits because of pandemic restrictions. I have asked three different employees to accommodate my needs and the other members who have the same problem but nothing has changed. I’m sure other members would appreciate this simple change also and I don’t know why nothing has been done. You would think they would want to make getting your workout in possible.

This place used to be a good quality gym worth the money they ask. Now it is absolutely an overpriced planet fitness. God forbid you do any real lifting here as it’s discouraged by staff and some members. Money is allocated for nonsense equipment that never gets used. The staff could care less about its customers and people re racking their weights. You’re constantly left with having to clean up after people. You can tell that the facility is just being ran horrendously by management. Also don’t fall for their Facebook reviews as the majority are coming from employees. Car dealerships do the same thing.

They should allow the cancellation of membership done via email or phone. They had me go in person or send letter US certified mail (postage would be paid by me). When I asked them about their efforts with relieving this policy from being in person, they were insensitive to the request with no concern of me nor their staff in the current pandemic situation. I can appreciate their sanitary efforts and trainers, but wish they revamped their policy to be modern with using email. This was really the main reason why I canceled. The mindset is not in line with the health being number one priority.

I've been a member here for 4 years now. It's a big gym with a lot of equipment and a full schedule of classes. I took away 2 stars because, the locker rooms are not always clean, the group classes are just OK, and they don't provide towels. I'm particularly annoyed with the fact that they don't provide towels because the sister gyms in Princeton and West Windsor offer towels. Maybe the company doesn't think their Hamilton members are worth the expense?

Here's my two sense on this place. I am one of the founding members. Cost me over 1000 bucks when they first opened (how many years ago? I can't remember). I still pay $40 a month for life. That part works for me. Overall, I think it's a good gym, but I think the classes need a complete revamp--they seem like the same classes from 10 plus years ago and quite honestly, it can be quite boring). (new idea...think the Max Challenge type classes, change it up, make it interesting for the members) and offer retro type fitness exercises classes that REALLY show results. I am still going to keep my membership because there are perks of using sister facilities, they have an excellent machine selection and I like the option of having the pool area and its close to home.

Would have given zero stars if possible but lucky you. Wealth of issues

- no one has any idea about the membership. They deceive you saying no joining fee and cancellation fee but once you go to the center they will have all the reasons in the world to explain thats not true. Every member you talk to has different answers and none of them are accurate including the manager.
- for us we were told that our monthly fees are 52 and 45 but once signed up they charged us more than what we signed up for. It took us 3 months and talking to 8 people to finally talk to the manager.
- when asked to cancel they say that we have to pay one month to cancel it (where is the no cancellation policy)
- never ever believe the membership teams words here
(Dont want to generalize this to all rwj fitness centers - had decent experience at other locations)

Signed up with them on 9/10, facility is great. Samantha was very helpful ensured I got my corporate deal and provided everything I needed. I'm giving it 3 stars because a hospital promoted fitness facility should know how to take blood pressure measurements properly and not send me to doctors to get my blood pressure measurements. Doctors measured me 3 times with 3 different equipments only for it to be normal and ask me why I was sent there. 2+ hours wasted.

Be careful of this place.. it’s expensive for no reason which they claim it’s because we get to see a nurse every wathever month and when I tried to finally cancel my membership I was given a hard time and they made me pay 2 months extra even though I was not going to be able to come in.. customer service tells you one thing and the general manager tells you something totally different then I was told “well you should’ve checked the membership agreement “ seriously stay away $65 a month is a lot and the experience was not good.

My wife went here. Ridiculous start up fees and complete lies about what’s included. It’s all a marketing scam. They tell you what they want so you can sign the contract and pay them. She was told about all the great services they offer and in reality it was all a scam. The employees are all sales based. Your “free” trainer consult every 6 weeks ? SALES MEETING. You literally have to sit there and listen to the trainer tell you about how he can help you personally and to hire him for over $1500 a month. If you say no they get aggressive and tell management who then tries to cause conflict with your membership because they realize their not making anymore money on you.

This review is for the spin and yoga instructors. The spin instructors do a great job motivating me with their words and choice of music. I look forward to classes. Due to my work schedule, I generally attend classes taught by Shaun, who also brings in humor to make working out FUN as well. I started going to yoga in the past year and I am much better to cope with everyday stress. I am typically able to attend classes by Joe and Marzena, with Vickie sometimes covering. I enjoy the insight they provide, the time and space to quiet the noise of daily life, and practical suggestions to continue to provide myself when I leave the yoga studio. They are all fun and make yoga a time to look forward to each day. Thank you !!!

Hey Owner of the gym, maybe you should start saying "Thank You" for those who left bad review as well. They are the real one help you improve here, but clearly they are not responded to as well as those who praised the gym recently. and... that's a lot of bad reviews to ignore! From the aspect that the owner only said "Thank you" for the only person has a good review to the gym but ignored and did not follow up with all the bad reviews for it, its a red flag.... was planning to come in, but this is just way too much red flags to even consider about, and clearly management is no longer the same after read through several reviews. I'm writing this review in behalf of my older parents who wouldn't even begin to know how to post a review of any bad experiences let alone online. But was upset naturally for them when they told me how this facility treated them after being members for years. My parents, more so my mother, love going to the gym. But was told by the "owner" that they cannot come back after my mom was using my dad's membership here. My mom(a nurse who worked for RWJ) joined the gym whn it first opened at a "discounted" rate, then she signed my dad up which they offered him a lower rate, being her spouse. Since my dad wasn't using the membership as often they decided to cancel my dad's membership. Whoever did the canceling accidentally took my mom off and kept my dad's. Well my mom kept going, cause she thought she had her membership intact. Guess one day when she went in a couple of weeks ago, the current owner told my mom she'd been using my dad's membership and told them they had to cancel the membership and re-sign back up, but this time at a higher rate! My folks told them it was their fault and why they would have to pay more for it.They've been long time members, would it have hurt for them to just correct the names and put my mother's name instead. They didn't want to help them out so my parents decided to just close the acct because they couldn't afford it being that they recently went into retirement. But the facility kept calling and harassing them that they still owed money! Dad finally told them "You made the mistake we're not paying and don't try the bait and switch on us or call us back again!" This gym is not the way it used to be a few years ago. For those who mentioned classy, it used to be classy, especially for us physicians. I used to be a member myself and loved the group classes and the machines, used the daycare for my daughter when she was a baby. The trainers were even helpful. But over time the staff and management are unfriendly, unwelcoming and unattentive as before! Not sure if its a new management or because they are not as popular as b4 and are losing money, but there are other options for gyms out there for significantly a lot less! The facility, with all the money you pay doesn't offer towels! Even smaller facilities like the Hamilton Y have the same EXACT facilities, much lower rate, great programs for the whole family, parents, kids, grandparents and offer towels! Also there are not restrictions on when kids and adults can use the pool. They have great aquatic classes, the pool is bigger, and they have a whirlpool too! The administration is also flexible. If you go away on vacation or just simply want to suspend your acct for a brief time they will do it at no charge. Planet Fitness is also close by for alot less as you know. They opened a new one in Hamilton with a hydromassager on Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd.

The most stereotypical car salesperson, except this one added corny jokes and occasional winks. Had my child with me so told her if she can be concise to which she replies...well, I am working after hours too just for you...arrogant. I came here thinking it's affiliated with a hospital so they may have some class but I believe a local planet fitness is way better than them. Really disappointing. The pool area was nice but had such a heavy chlorinated smell that I thought I would pass out. Best part...when she saw we're not impressed with the initiation fee, she left the room and never came back...immature.

(3 1/2 stars) Positives: Clean, lots of equipment (cardio machines, weights, spin studio), pool with spa style locker room w/ well-stocked showers (but NO towels!!!), snack bar w/ full kitchen & membership includes other locations with similarly clean and adequate facilities. Quarterly access to trainer to monitor progress.

Negatives: 1. Extremely limited class schedule for anyone working normal business hours (9-6). Luckily alternate location near my work (Plainsboro - included w/ membership) has more.
2. Largest initiation fee of any gym ever ($300-$400) and I've joined countries best athletic centers; pressured for day 1 sign up or threatened of higher fee; I was told a one time postponement of membership was allowed for a couple months with adequate excuse or doctor note but that this was not allowed more than one time without forfeiture of initiation fee and required to pay again to rejoin as new member. Or was this a threat?? (I joined 6 mos. ago but another reviewer 1 year ago stated he was allowed on-again off-again membership without losing fee.) I've enjoyed a trial membership and great workouts at OrangeTheory but I believe I'll lose all my money here so I feel forced to keep my membership & I cannot afford both.
3. Sweat towels & bath towels not provided! I've never joined a high end gym without this important amenity. If I forget to pack a towel I can't shower, use jacuzzi, steamroom etc. If I forget a sweat towel too bad for next user. However they provide wet wipes I do wipe down machines after I've sweated profusely on them.(Other locations do provide fresh towels.)

Great equipment; always clean; nice and friendly staff. They even have a glute-ham raise (even though everyone just uses it for weird situps).

However, cost may be an issue depending on your job at RWJ. I did not get a discount while some others get to use the facilities for literally one-tenth of what I was paying. The initiation fee is quite high - almost $300 and that's only if you sign on the first day you walk in. If you don't, it's another $200! The initial sales pitch to get me to join was 2 hours. And if you leave the gym, they want you to write them a letter and proof that you moved; otherwise, they charge you extra termination fees! According to the staff, the cost is justified in the nurse visits, which I admit I did not use and probably has more value to others.

Another problem is that despite the huge amount of space, there are only 2 power racks. Strangely, there is only one calf machine, and it is a rotary calf machine. There is this whole series of machines that use some sort of pneumatic piston for resistance - they are pretty inferior to standard machines. Raising the resistance to 600 or whatever the max is on the leg press takes almost a minute. I guess if they were the last weight machines on earth, they'd be pretty useful, but there's gotta be something better...OH YEAH, ACTUAL WEIGHTS.

Also, although most trainers know what they are doing and are respectful to everyone, a couple of them would interrupt my training periodically to tell me to wear a lifting belt or I was going to die (currently still alive), decrease the weight because there are too many plates on the bar and that I'm scaring her clients (fear helps elevate heart rate, which helps burn calories), or tell me to stop deadlifting 15 minutes after signing up, which was contingent on hearing a "yes" to my question "can I do deadlifts here." To be fair, you can usually use the Olympic platform to deadlift or do Olympic lifts (there's only one though) and I think those staff have since left.

A previous reviewer is totally incorrect. It's Absolutely NOT $1,000 A YEAR to belong to the RWJohnson gyms. Joining all of them at once is a one-time fee, and much less than $1,000 to pay EVER.

The truth is, this is one of the very best bargains in my life. Monthly fees are very reasonable. I have used weight loss doctors in the past. NOT ONE of those doctors helped me finally reach my goals like RWJ Fitness & Wellness Centers have.

The nurse and trainer have taken a real interest in my progress. I've lost over eighty pounds since joining this gym and maintained them. Classes are strong and intense. Facilities are cleaner than competitors. All the RWJohnson gyms are well-designed and organized.

I've been very impressed and hope the gyms continue to be maintained as they are now. Thank you to all who make the RWJohnson gyms specially great. I enjoy them for as much as I have time.

I love this gym. I've been a member off and on for over 10 years. The month to month contract lets me drop out some times and then come back at my original rate without paying the initiation fee.

Regarding the nurses' appointments... you get a free assessment every 12 weeks I think... I like to do this so I see progress. They do basic measurements, body fat and blood pressure. Just a nice little perk that's included in your membership.

Regarding personal training -- you get a free assessment again every 12 weeks I think... They will do a functional movement screen and then at a separate appointment, tell you the results and give you a personalized workout program. Of course they try to sell you a training package but you can always say "NO" and just use the program they give you or not. I actually did sign up for some personal training packages and my trainer was WONDERFUL! Sure, it's expensive, but it was an investment in my health and worth every penny.

I love the variety of classes... I've never walked in and had a class too full to join except spin classes right after work. And, yes, the parking is tough because it's a popular gym! I find that if I go around 6 in the morning, parking is fine, no waiting in line for any equipment... Just don't go with the masses immediately after work.

The shower and locker room facilities are nice and clean. I don't use the pool area much now but when I have in the past, I always felt they were clean and well-maintained.

I also like the free seminars that are offered like nutrition classes, stress management, women's health.

Yes, it's pricey but for me, given the services they offer, it's worth it.

THE PERSONNEL ARE GREAT,, THE EXERCISE EQUIPMENT IS GREAT,, NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE GYM... THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE SAUNA,, MEN'S ,,,NEW WOOD WAS PUT DOWN USING FINISHING NAILS WHICH POP UP AND CAUSE SCRATCHES EVER SINCE DAY ONE OF THE REPLACEMENT WOOD.. FINISHING NAILS ARE USED FOR TRIM AND MOLDING, NOT BENCHES.. ANY APPRENTICE CARPENTER KNOW THIS..YET WHEN I AND MY FRIENDS MENTIONED THIS TO MAINTENANCE,, EXTRA FINISHING NAILS WERE PUT IN.. NOT SCREWS,,WHICH ARE SUPPOSED TO BE USED ON BENCHES.. THE FINISHING NAILS MUST BE REMOVED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT AND SCREWS USED IN THEIR PLACE... ALSO,, I HOPE THE POOLS GET CONVERTED OVER TO SALT WHICH IS ALOT HEALTHIER THAN LIQUID CHLORINE WHICH IRRITATES THE EYES AND SKIN.. AFTER ALL,, THIS IS A FITNESS AND WELLNESS CENTER... AND IT WOULD BE A GREAT IMPROVEMENT .. WHEN I VISIT THE PLAINESBORO GYM ONCE IN A WHILE,, I HATE TO GET OUT OF THE POOL,, NO BURNING EYES,, NO SKIN RASHES.. WHAT A DELIGHTFUL PLEASURE.. I KNOW WE ARE SUPPOSED TO CONVERT OVER OR IT'S BEEN SAID SO IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS ,,BUT I AND MANY OTHERS WOULD APPRECIATE IT.. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME EXPRESS MY PLEASURES AND DISPLEASURE.. BUT IT IS OF SAFETY AND HEALTH THAT I MENTION THE ABOVE MATTERS TO YOU.. THANK YOU,FOR ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THESE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE HAMILTON FACILITY....SINCERELY, BILL BERNHARDT

They have horrible customer service and regulations. They bill you dues, even when you have a DOCTOR'S note that says you are not released to use the gym services.

Please read ; K Lacerda review as well as "A Google User" and "Lindsay Zdep. The sales person talked my ear off for an hour and half. Telling me things like "Body Mass Index" (BMI) testing. When I asked questions she knew nothing, like do they use a dunk tank to calculate BMI? because if they use calipers and electro resistivity it can be very misleading. 2 weeks after going to RWJ, I asked the front desk what the temp at the gym and that I normally don't sweat this much just from doing push-ups. Reply, I don't know. Question: Do you circulate fresh air through the ventilation system, it seems rather stuffy in here? Reply, I don't know. Question: Can we have a fan on the floor for those that do high cardio work-outs? No, it's a tripping hazard.

So let me get this straight, you don't know anything about the gym that you are employed at and I'm paying a $1,000 dollars a year as a customer and the best you can do is, "I don't know."

I've been working out for most of my life, since I was 10 years old. (I'm 50) I compete in triathlons, foot races, Spartan races and rock climb, ski, as well as backpack recreationally. Which brings me to the next problem. I keep receiving phone messages from RWJ to meet with their nursing staff and training staff. This is a sales tactic to brow beat you into paying more for additional classes and support.

On a good note, if you are overweight, have thousands of dollars to spend and need someone to hold your hand and walk you through every exercise because you never left the couch, then this is the perfect gym for you.

P.S. RWJ staff, if a customer is talking to you, it's a good idea to engage them in the conversation instead of walking away and acting like you are doing something on the computer. Or better yet, make excuses like, maybe you have high blood pressure or take some clothes off if your hot. Hmmm, I have sweat dripping off of me from doing push-ups and I'm wearing shorts and a T-shirt in December. I'm already wearing the least amount of clothes possible. In all of my years, I have never worked up a sweat in any other gym from doing just push-ups. Poor excuse of an answer.

I have been a member for a good 6 months now. Pretty nice facility, but the fees are very high compared to other gyms and the sales pitch is high pressure, as others have mentioned. The classes are okay but are only offered during peak user time, are tough to make if you don't get out of work at 5:00 sharp, and fill up fast. The only reason I joined was for the pool. If you've ever swam competitively, those tiny 12-yard pools in some other gyms (like Gold's or NY Fitness) do nothing and are impossible to get a work out. You push off one end and you're already at the other. This facility has a full competition size 25-yard pool. If it were not for that, I would have joined elsewhere and saved $20 to $30/month.

I have been a member for years on and off with the frequency with which I actually go. I like doing a combination of activities and have tried all different types of classes from the the dance ones, to the hard core fitness, to yoga, to even the ones in the pool. My suggestion is try different classes with different instructors to find the best fit. Even if you aren't keen on the specific instructor in the class you can find ways to make the class work for you.

I like the improvements they have made to the layout of the floor. the floor space used to be crammed to the corner, but you can be more creative about floor space. Myself and a friend have even used the corner by the rowing machines to do floor activities. and the more open floor plan allows trainers to spreadout and not chew up the same floor space.

Pool tends to make me itchy with the high level of chlorine but I just deal with it. I'm just happy to have the regular pool the therapy pool and the hot tub. Don't be intimidated by older people in the pool classes, you can always make the activities harder or easier for your need.

Thought I'd put in a word about childcare. Don't expect it to be an organized class for your child, but I've had my children there since they were 6 months old and the same staff sticks around and cares for the kids. Older children may be bored but my 5 and 3 year old still enjoy going and seeing the same kids and staff month after month. I appreciate that the fee was rolled into the monthly membership as I had to pay additional for the service years ago. I also found out childcare could be used while going to the spa which was well worth it to me when you need that extra sanity and don't have someone to watch the kids. Just let the staff know where you are.

Parking is always an issue but hey I figure if I'm going to workout then the few extra feet I have to walk is really not that big of a deal. If you can time getting in 10 minutes after the hour when people have just finished classes parking can be easier to find.

I moved here from Hamilton Fitness down the road and glad that I did. This place has so many exercise machines and fitness classes. The best part is that it isn't pretentious at all. The focus is on being healthy and fit. The lock room is clean and there are plenty of amenities (like the sauna - it feels like you're at a spa). The only thing I wish was that the pool was bigger. It can get crowded very quickly, especially on the weekends.

I don't like seeing the weirdo guys in the gym who stare at other people...what is that all about? Creepy!!! Might have to consider working out at home...

I LOVE the classes at this gym. Vin and Charlie are probably my favorite instructors because they are dancers, but there are over 200 classes a week and there is definitely something for everyone.

I'm in my late twenties and used to dance when I was younger, and HANDS DOWN, Vin is the BEST Zumba instructor I've EVER taken - I've seen instructors in the area and NO ONE can move like her. Well worth it if you take her Zumba class...

Also, I never feel "uncomfortable" here (for those of you who know what I mean); it's definitely a friendlier gym than some of the others I've been a part of over the years. Hands down, one of if not the best gym in the area.
