I have been a member of RWJ in Carteret for many years.I do have to say I have never felt better about this gym then right now From that time you walk in the door the two front young women at the desk greet you with the most cheerful niece .The sales people as you are going down the hall go out of there way to say hello. Up stairs in the gym area all the trainers are as niece and helpful as can be they say hello, and as long as they are not training someone they will answer any questions and help with any machine. Not for nothing but RWJ you finally got it right by hiring the manager Jess she has been there for ever has a great heart loves her job and not that I ever had a problem but you could feel her love and happens for RWJ and the staff are all feeling it

My husband and I have been members for years, and Jessica Rivera — the general manager — has always been incredibly helpful. I’ve also received physical therapy at this location and had a great experience. It’s disappointing to see so many negative reviews simply because some people didn’t get their way. Don’t let that deter you — go experience the gym for yourself.

Gym rat. Love going to different gyms but I always find myself returning here. Girls at the front desk are so nice, Jessica Rivera is awesome and the trainers are always there to assist.

Deeply disappointed to have learned about the abrupt departure of Kirk, the General Manager at Carteret. Not only was he the FACE of the facility, but someone who loved community, and cared deeply about his members. His departure made many questioned the current low morale and the managing partners priorities and if they truly care about their members experiences. The center has not been the same since he's departed. Many members are considering canceling their memberships due to this reason. What a shame!

Great, clean facility with everything you need for a solid workout. The trainers are knowledgeable and always ready to guide you, whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve. The manager is also very approachable and quick to handle any concerns. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone around the area!

This morning, May 10th, 2025, there was a flyer offering a guest one-day pass. One of the employees, Kamal, did not allow my guest to take a Zumba class, even though I pointed out that the flyer showed the dates as the 10th and 11th, and she insisted it was only for Sunday. I am completely disappointed at how my guest was treated.

I am so happy I joined this gym, I love the classes and I love the facility itself. I love the fact that they have a childcare center and everyone is pleasant, professional, attentive, and very welcoming. Also, it’s very clean and neat and you can tell everyone enjoys The classes!

There are various ways to get your workout done in a peaceful, professional and clean environment. The best part are the instructors and counselors. They are alway welcoming… makes you feel like you are safe right at home… the Olympic size pool - oh boy it’s just beautiful!🏊🏊♀️🏊♂️

I don't often leave reviews, but when I do, it's because it's truly deserved. The Rahway Fitness Center is hands down the best gym I’ve ever been a part of. A huge thank you to Kirk and his incredible team for consistently being professional, supportive, and always going above and beyond. The gym is fully equipped with every amenity you could need – from a variety of fitness classes for all levels (Zumba, cycling, yoga, and more) to a warming pool, jacuzzi, and state-of-the-art weight machines. And let’s not forget the saunas – my personal favorite after a great workout.
What sets this gym apart, though, is the amazing staff. They foster an environment of support, encouragement, and excellence that makes all the difference. I’ve been a member for over 10 years and honestly can’t imagine going anywhere else. If you’re considering joining, don’t hesitate – I’d sign up in a heartbeat!

I have been taking my little cousin here for swim lessons. I had the pleasure of meeting the manager of aquatics Ms.Britney and from my viewable experience she does an excellent job teaching the kids whilst being very enthusiastic and passionate about what she does . I also noticed that she's on top of staff consistently making sure everyone performs their job duties. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the pool area and sauna. I would definitely recommend booking classes here. I also enjoyed the gym upstairs the equipment was up to my standards . The food at Ultimate Grill was really good I'd recommend to try anything off the menu and the head chef is a genuine really nice guy who cares about his customers.

I wouldn't recommend this fitness center due to its outdated equipment and lack of essential machines for a diverse workout. The membership fees are significantly higher than other nearby gyms. The pools are often dirty, and the sauna appears to be poorly maintained. Many of the ellipticals and treadmills are old and frequently out of service.

Kevin is the best & most knowledgeable trainer I have ever worked with. No cookie cutter work outs. He tailors it to your needs & is always observing you to protect you from injury. He is always stepping up your work outs to challenge you. He has a great personality, so the work out flies by.

I love this gym. It’s clean and nice. The staff so far been really nice. A lot of gym equipment’s. The reason I gave 4 stars is because of the hours on the weekends are to short. It needs extension. The pool always closes earlier than the gym its just not convenient with my work schedule. PLEASE change the hours on the weekend. Also I don’t like the yoga instructor Steve. He touches you a lot more than any instructor I been to. Supposedly to fix your yoga posses. I just feel uncomfortable in his class that’s why I stopped going. No wonder why he has only one student in his class.
I wish they had Mommy&Me hours on Saturdays too. Because I work on Sundays. I want to bring my son with me on Saturdays.

I have been a foundation member for years and I only still go to this location for the staff. Kevin is the best personal trainer, helping people achieve their goals with positive knowledgeable support. The facility itself is nowhere near as nice as other locations. It has older equipment, broken equipment and isn't as clean as other locations. When I joined it offered so many classes that are no longer available here, it seems the company does not invest in this location compared to others.

Love my gym but the weekend hours aren’t right. Ppl get out of work on Saturdays at 4-5 and the gym is closed. Might have to cancel mine my husband bc of this. Would hate to have to do that but 5 on a Saturday is crazy. Hopefully you guys change this. 2 stars bc it’s a big deal for us.
Updated my review because they listened to most of the reviews. They added new machines and I’m very happy about it. I spoke to the manager through email and the hours of the facility is out of his control. It’s probably a corporate decision for all facilities. Also still waiting on family swim on weekends. Still not thrilled about the hours but the gym is clean all workers are super nice helpful and overall it’s a nice facility.

This is for the Swimming class they offer. My son goes to a one -one private session with Silvia. She is amazing! It's worth every penny if you get Silvia as the coach. My son is always excited to go meet and learn swimming because of her.. We use to send our son to aqua tots for $230 per month for a group session. It's mere waste of money. They used to spend only 15 mins with him per class. Even though he has been there for a year, we saw no progress. But with Silvia it's just been 6 classes and we could see so much difference. He has improved his skills so well. 🙂She is awesome!

This gym has gone downhill bad. Way more expensive than most gyms, yet you can’t bring a family member, also at least make an effort to match their hours, and quality. I barely even have time to go now, because somehow they’re still back in 2020 when the pandemic started that they started to cut the hours, so what’s the deal!? Paying more for less hours? Like, what happened to closing at 11pm?, and I’m not the only one to say it. If you guys are going to keep increasing the prices at least make some changes to make your customers happy, and by the way! I’ve been seeing the same machines in the same spot for the past 9 years! $62 a month from each person is not enough to make changes and to keep the gym open for a little longer than 10pm, 9pm on Fridays and 5pm on weekends?

First I wanna start by saying that if I could give this gym a ZERO STAR rating I would, let’s talk about the staff .. can we say RUDE!!!!!! Such a sense of entitlement from simply minded works (relax it’s a gym not your career).. overpriced for the horrible service that’s given at this establishment. Today I have witnessed how these workers truly act towards their members. And for how much they charge, they should be more thorough with who they hire. Today I was so embarrassed for a member who was simply trying to clarify a situation. Instead of being heard, they just walked them right out of the facility, I was completely appalled. Honestly, I’ve decided to withdraw my membership and I will be going to a place that actually cares.. DO BETTER!!!!

This is the absolute worst place on earth. The staff is quite possibly the rudest I have ever encountered, kicking me and my friend out because they said we were not wearing proper gym attire (bike shorts and a t shirt). My friend and I are both heavy set which is why we decided to sign up, and to be so disrespected like that was beyond humiliating. Not to mention the lack of respect I and fellow gym members have viewed in multiple scenarios. Staff members being snippy, condescending and using their authority to their advantage all because they don’t have the energy to do their jobs efficiently. This place is so disorganized and their staff is wishy washy. And the worst of all was the lady at the front desk who harassed a hispanic woman who had questions about the pool but was clearly frustrated due to the language barrier. Today was my last straw being so mortified in front of all the other gym members for wearing the same attire as everyone else. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!

If you thinking of joining so you can take a dip in the therpy pool. Think again. Sometimes warm most of the time cool.
Today they out did them selfs. Out right cold. People got out of the pool because it was that cold.
Tried talking to them. Always get the same answer. It's the right temperature Or being told we don't know what we are talking about. Today 20 people were in the pool for a class everyone said the water was cold.
Is everyone wrong and the pool was warm.
Something should be done to make members happy

If I could rate this location a 0 star I would. I don’t recommend this place to absolutely anyone for the following reasons. For a gym that they claim to be , they charge you $62 for having Carteret residency and $65 for outsiders from town. These prices are if you are first person on the account but if not they try to sale to you as if it’s a family plan. If you come with family or people living under the same residence and if you are second person pricing is $53 at Carteret resident pricing and $59 outsiders from town and 3rd person at $43 Carteret residence pricing and $43 outsiders from town. they also promote false advertisement when they say no initiation fee they charge you $30 for admission fee which is basically initiation fee and then charge you $30 maintenance fee 6 months after you join and 1 time a year after. But don’t be fooled everyone has there own account it’s like a recommended discount. When I saw the sales counselor Alexis when signing up I felt completely discriminated by her and her attitude and lack of professionalism. She didn’t seem excited at all for me to join the facility. She even stated to me “I am leaving now but I can do you the favor to tour you quickly” barely showed me around I had to learn the facility on my own. She left a very sour mouth taste don’t recommend to see her when you go to inquire for membership. The other two males that work there constantly have said hi to me when coming in for my workouts along with the front desk girls that sadly left the company. customer service manager was really amazing but sadly left the company there so no friendly or welcoming people there. A horrible environment to come to after a long day of work or to even start you say since they never open on time they say 5am or 7 am on weekends it never happens then they kick you out so rudely at night. How can can you possibly blow steam off with such hostile environment.
The facility it self is extremely outdated they have been open for 10 years and no remodeling has been done they try to fool you by remodeling here and there the new equipment they promised to come sept remodeling the whole gym floor hasn’t the only new equipment has been cardio. They promised brand new gym floor upstairs and still nothing. The facility is constantly unkept dirty filthy sweat on the studios walls child care barely cleaned sweat all over machines locker rooms no paper towels and dirty family change rooms constantly dirty. Child care is constantly full of children going against NJ law (N.J.A.C. 3A:52) every person or organization caring for six or more children below 13 years of age is required to secure a license from the Office of Licensing in the Department of Children and Families unless the program is exempt by law. There is no license to my knowledge anywhere near child care. The Café they have there runs that business how every they want and close at any hours and open at any hours convenient to them never letting the members know always last minute. horrible because at night when it is the busiest there is nothing and nothing early morning to get you started in the morning. When I have inquired about family swim or private swim lessons you are completely ignored and there is never any manager to speak to. They take your money and you basically have to just figure it out with the instructor and the piece of paper with pricing they throw at you no managers help with swimming useless. To finalize the review personal trainers don't even great you or say hello unless you have purchased a package with them. To finalize when you purchase they tell you it’s a month to month membership it’s a lie you do sign a contract and if you want to cancel need to give them 30 days notice before you get billed. A joke because they then tell you billing ran already and you have to get charged another month to cancel.
AGAIN NEVER COME HERE ITS ALL LIES AND CAN GET MORE AT ANOTHER GYM

I get that bcuz of Covid, the Town and all business had to adjust to CDC rules and regulations, things like requiring members to wear masks, Wiping down machines and gym hours.. Two (2) years, going on three (3) and gym hours are still the same. Never going back to Pre Covid. Openning later and closing earlier.Especially on the weekends. Friday closing at 9 and Saturday and Sunday at 5pm. I personally work on weekends, which means I rarely use the gym. That's 8 days a month I pay, un able to use it. Family swimming still not available. Along with the food court closing early and bot avaible on the weekends. I am seriously considering canceling my membership along with my wifes AN VERY DISapointed with direction this gym is headed.

Every other location is upstanding why isn’t Carteret’s? Machines constantly broken. There’s never any food, machines not stocked ever. Why should I pay a full membership which is costly when half their selling points don’t exist and is the worst location. The only reason this place gets two stars is because what staff they have there is friendly.

Having a gym in town is very convenient but I expected a bit more given how much the gym costs. The equipment is old/broken, the hours for the pool are super inconvenient for anyone who has a job, there’s no longer family swim or any incentives for families to join together. Unfortunately, I believe the same fitness centers in more “upscale” towns get more attention and it’s sad that the Carteret one is completely overlooked and the member complaints are not handled well by owners as managers can only do so much!

As a carteret resident, buisness owner and active member of our community i do NOT recommend this location. My experience was shocking especially since Alexis (Manager) was the person who assisted. Not only did she NOT mention prices and specials over the phone (stated we will discuss during a tour) she also failed to mention i needed ID in order to tour the facility prior to arriving. While waiting 5 to 10 mins for her to arrive to give the tour my husband and I noticed several individuals who did not scan their ID nor stopped by employees. This is a big risk factor especially if your planning to use the childcare.

I want to start by saying the facility is very clean, the staff is attentive and professional and all the teachers, trainers and classes are great, the cafe is also good HOWEVER if you’re looking to feel inspired and motivated this is NOT the place. The gym feels like a rehab center. It’s depressing and unmotivating. They cater to people 60 and over and don’t invest in equipment or technology that young families or anyone under 40 would be interested in. They have a limited selection of equipment no different than planet fitness. I initially joined because it was close, convenient and wanted to support my community but in the years I have been a member they haven’t offered anything new, innovative or exciting. There is a chain of rwj gyms but this location was the better one out of all of them. I really wanted to support them during the pandemic as my friends and I were eager to get back but they have only cut amenities, classes, childcare, hours and haven’t offered any break on rates. Recently I started looking into other gyms in the area like orange theory, cko and even crunch and realize I can get a lot more for my money. LA fitness has fun classes, great environment, pool, racquetball and basketball courts for a fraction of the price. I’ve made great friends at rwj and this is the only reason I have stayed so long but it’s time for my family and me to move on. Most of the friends I have made feel the same and are already shopping around. Maybe I’ll come back when I’m 80.

Don’t come here if you don’t have any water, do as much as they charge, they should have water bottles readily available. God forbid there is a medical emergency or a situation where someone needed water. This is completely unsatisfactory. A gym with no water is like a street with no lights or signs. Doesn’t make any sense. Hopefully nothing happens where a meme bet needs water. They charge great a deal for membership AT LEAST WATER FOR YOUR MEMBERS!

This is the third time THIS WEEK I've seen ppl walking around with their face half way covered. There are no staff members walking around making sure ppl are abiding by the CDC guidelines. I've already made mention to a staff member once. I had to cut my workout short because SIX PEOPLE today were walking around half exposed. One person completely had their mask off just lounging on the floor. It took forever for the gym to reopen and the facility is allowing ppl to workout half covered or completely masked off. Vey Unprofessional and rude staff, membership signup process was confusing, no plan descriptions were provided all was focused on agreeing to the highest membership fees possible that were scribbled by staff member on piece of paper and once I decided the membership fees are ridiculously high, as I was about to walk out, manager was brought in to convince me to higher fees. The atmosphere was intimidating and felt like negotiating with a car dealer. I was told that gym is there to make money and anything that was said on the phone before getting you in the door was a prop.Rude and angry staff, if you asked questions or needed clarification.I would have joined if verified fees and plan description were provided in a written document. I am going to this gym since 15 days, and it’s totally fun and worth the money we pay. They have a big gym floor and specially the classes they run are very effective.

This is a great, modern and health-focused gym. The price is affordable considering all the amenities they have to offer. There’s plenty of equipment for everyone even when it’s at its busiest. With dedicated trainers, nursing staff and challenging classes I’ve been able to lose 100 pounds and still going strong.

Horrible customer service. Came to close my account on the 4th of the month (have not used the facility at all for the previous month) and asked if I could please not be charged for the entire month since the it was just starting. I Explained that we were moving due to a personal family emergency at which they asked for "proof". Process took over a half hour, wasted my time and made me go through a humiliation of explaining myself only to end up NOT to crediting me back for the upcoming month. Thanks Mr. GM with no authority Tom. They have a 30 day cancelation policy I get it, but where is the compassion and personal courtesy for a long time member?
A couple of hours later I received a call from the facility asking if I would be interested in using their second location... umm seriously? Even if they were the last gym on earth, they would not get my business again! And why wasn’t that option offered to me when I was closing out the account GM Tom? Your only concern was to take the extra $120 (my husband and I) before closing out the accounts.

I absolutely love this Gym.. the equipment and facility is always clean. I haven’t attended any of the Classes yet but I hear they’re great and are included in my membership. I love the pool which always has open lanes because the gym is not overly crowded. I haven’t had any issues with the staff.. if anything, they’re very friendly and professional..

I visited this place hoping to get know the prices and see if it fits my needs. But this is not your regular gym where they will tell you about things right away.
FIRST you have to wait and take an appointment with so called fitness coach.
SECOND they will take all ur medial stuff (which seem to be waste of time).
THIRD there will be a tour around the place., which is a nice with good equipment. The joy ends when u hear the expensive deposit and monthly fee of $50-$70 (Deposit upto $300) . There is crunch fitness very close by for $10 a month and has all the stuff u need.

I been coming here for sometime I say they could update the gear and do a little better since I'm sure they are killing with what they make in profit here because of the fees to be a member are about $65 a month but the people that work here are friendly and everything is so clean when you finish with the machine someone is already cleaning behind you so I love that and the space is nice I guess since I go in the mornings it's always such a great workout and great people worth the money ..... you could also swim :D I actually don't use the pool I just love how the option is there if I want to

Been going there since they opened in 2011. The place is ok, i suppose. Except for Kevin Burch, the staff gives 2 craps about you or your time there. The child care is great, however. The night shift must not do much because most 5am mornings the hand wipes are always empty. One would think they should be filled for the morning crew but who wants to do that? But it really doesn't matter because most members don't bother using them no matter how much they sweat all over the machine. At least once per month they don't open on time and they use every excuse why it didn't open. Then you ask the GM Suzanne why they can't open 10-15 minutes early and she says " for liability reasons". Meanwhile every snow storm the parking lot is a complete embarrassment and shocked someone hasn't hurt themselves. So what's more a liability opening at 4:50 am or lack of snow removal? Suzanne has no clue how to run this joint. The amount of cell phone use in mind boggling. There are some members i could just point out who spend over an hour there but 50 minutes is spent facebooking or texting. It's annoying. Thy sit on machines for 15 minutes with zero activity except with their thumbs laughing and giggling like school children with some other lazy trash at the other end of the text. Then we have the alpha males why walk around like they're 6'4 meanwhile they'e under 5'5 with zero muscles. Puffing out the chest like their somebody. Most huff and puff walking up stairs and should probably work on their cardio then lifting weights. Last but not least, most of the members are from other worlds who barely shower and stink to the high heavens. No english required. Just my opinion

Nice friendly gym that is well maintained and aesthetically pleasing with a great vibe to it. Has a beautiful, well lit aquatic center and everything you need here including a physical therapy center. Best thing to happen to Carteret in a long time.

I love this facility. Its less crowded than other gyms and has a GREAT Aquatics Center. I had surgery this summer and heavily use the hot tub and pool. The only drawback is membership. I would strongly suggest joining at another facility. The prices I was quoted for membership were ridiculous. I went to another location and got a much more reasonable rate and jumped on it. You can use all locations regardless of where you join. There is also a really good place to eat there called Lettuce Eat. Their prices are reasonable and the service is excellent.

The facility itself is great. I had the worst experience with the Management. Basically I had signed up as a 'family' account for me and my wife. We had moved out of NJ in Dec 2015. As per RWJ, I filled up a termination form in Nov 2015. What they didn't tell me is to fill separate termination form for my wife. They kept charging the credit card every month. I noticed that after 3 months while reviewing credit card statement. I called them and explained I have already moved out. They won't believe me. Then I sent a certified postal letter from my new address. After that they terminated my wife's account. BUT STILL CHARGED FOR 2 MORE MONTHS after that, stating it's policy!
This is not FAIR for a reputed company like RWJ to extract money when it is clearly evident that I had moved out. Also, even though me and my wife' account was joint, they never told me to submit separate termination application!
If there is negative rating, I would give that to the Managers there!!!

I have belonged to a few other gyms from CO to WA to here, and this is by far the nicest one I have ever seen. It is super-large but not crowded, and is positively immaculate throughout. Add to that they have child care, a healthy food spot, individual tv's on equipment, pool/spa/sauna, a health-oriented approach, many varied classes - just to name a few great features. The only down-side I see is that weekend hours are shorted than weekday hours.

They do not have very good customer service or customer recovery. At first things were good, until you visit on a more frequent basis. The trainer I had was good socially making me feel comfortable, but he would be on his cell phone a lot, overbook appointments and didn't show up to an appointment to name a few. We had scheduling issues and ultimately the people who solve membership problems were no help. Their company issues like terminations, quitting and accounts were gym gossip. The Carteret facility is not worth the hassle. At least try Hackensack. You may get your money's worth.

Great place to workout, clean, lots of room, free weights and quality machines, not overcrowded, helpful personnel and trainers; for those that like aerobic classes there is plenty to choose from....
Monthly fee NOT $19.99... but you won't be stock in an overcrowded, smelly, full of hard head young adults screaming and hollowing!!!

I have been a member since July of 2014. I really love to work out at this facility. The pool is great, lots of equipment, and a variety of classes. What I absolutely love the most is that it is very clean. They have staff there at all times cleaning the bathrooms. This is the only gym where I have actually felt comfortable taking a shower. The staff is also very friendly. Keep up the good work!

Great place to work out! Has a large assortment of machines, and a lot of the cardio machines have TVs on them. Rarely does it get crowded. Large swimming pool, small heated pool, sauna, and jacuzzi are available. Many classes and group workouts, and there is a nursery for young kids. Free nurse checkup and trainer advice every few months. Very friendly staff. Building looks modern inside and out, although time will tell if it lasts. Be forewarned, when signing up for scuba lessons or similar classes, they may not be on-site, make sure you read the fine print!

RWJ is a great facility and I have been a member for almost a year despite the ridiculous monthly membership fee. The staff is super friendly and the cleaning crew is doing an amazing job and most of all the trainers are super friendly and always willing to help if you have questions. The gym does not get overcrowded so you never have to wait for machines. HOWEVER, the equipment is VERY limited and some of the most basic equipment is missing i.e. standing calf-raises, natural motion smith machine, better lat pull machine etc. They have wasted money and space on these gimmicky air pressure machines and rope pulley machines, which no one really uses. For the fee they charge($1,055 per year), I expected much more equipment and place it in an organized manner(a section for a body part) instead of all over the place and the management seems aloof to all of this. They need to improve their equipment and decrease the cost, because Carteret is a surrounded by low income housing and people can’t afford the high cost to improve their physical health due to the high cost, personally I don’t think they know their clientele, because Carteret has double the poverty rate compared to NJ average of 6.5% and a median household income which is around $17,000 less than NJ average. Gym’s like WOW charge $20-$30/month with little or no signup fee and offer ample equipment and don’t waste money or space on yuppie or gimmicky equipment. Now you might ask why am I a still a member, its less than one minute from my house, but I am considering going back to WOW to save money and the diversity of equipment.

Beautiful facility. I want to start with that. BUT the super high pressure sales tactics, and the shady games played on the price were a massive turn off. I felt like I was at a used care dealership. Since they refuse to publish rates, or let us walk out with their rates I figured I would help some people out.
Option 1 $479 sign up fee and $48
Option 2 $319 $59
This includes a personal trainer assessment, most classes, every 6 week meeting with a personal trainer and some nurse measuring you thingy.
The sign fee is ridiculous, but the monthly rates are surprisingly low. The whole experience though was so off-putting with the Hard Sell I won't be signing up.
