I usually go to the Summit Y, but the South Amboy Branch YMCA blew me away! Super friendly staff, spotless facilities, and a great selection of programs. The community vibe here is amazing β you feel welcome the moment you walk in. Worth going out of my way to visit!

This review is for the YMCA in South Amboy. I usually donβt leave reviews but it was such a Phenomenal Experience that I just had to. I had a 3 hour party there on Saturday. We did Pool, Gym with Bouncy house, games, soccer, basketball, and more. Then we went to the Party Room to have food and cake.(they have different party packages) Tom and his Team were beyond great, they were so welcoming and was there to help set up and made sure I had everything I needed. The lifeguard was awesome in the Pool! Tom and the Team was very nice to the kids and even played some sports with them. I made sure to tip them and include them with the food etc, everything was perfect! I will recommend 100%. You wonβt be disappointed! Customer Service from them all was outstanding! One important thing I forgot to add- the gym, party room and pool were all so spacious!

I Love the pool. I go & do my own exercise routine for 1-1/2 hours twice a week. I feel great. I have COPD & use Boost canned Oxygen instead of using my portable oxygen concentrator at the pool to prevent any damage. I have lost weight & inches along with having more energy. Iβm very, very happy that I have the opportunity to exercise in the pool. This low impact water exercises help me gain strength & stamina. Thank You

My wife and I have been members for years now. Lately it seems they cant control the heat upstairs. They said it was from the pool doors, allowing the heat to escape to upstairs which is hot to begin with. We started wearing shorts, you can't get anywhere near the treadmills without breaking into a sweat. I used to be on them for 30 minutes or longer. It's unbearable. I went upstairs,went to do my dailey routine and had to leave.Monday the thermostat said 77 degrees.I decided that I would walk around the park and enjoy the coolness.It doesn't seem complaining about how hot it is anymore.Time to look elsewhere

Literally 1 star. The employee old lady that works there is so rude for no reason. Like girl nobody told you to work here. She gave me attitude for no reason as well. Train your employees to be nice instead of acting like they are forced to work there.

She also tried to tell me my age when I obviously know my age nobody give me a problem but her never coming here again I donβt argue with elders. Get your moneys worth at a different YMCA.

There was a lack of cleaning supplies. There were no wipes you had to take a napkin or a paper towel and spray it with a cleaner than wipe down. And there were only a few near the paper towels, so you had to do it there and every time you went to wipe something off, you would have to go back there just kind of annoying the treadmills there did not have fans only one did and it was one in the middle. It was a different kind of treadmill, which was weird I did not use the pool so I doubt no about much about that but they-did have one and this y accepts nationwide YMCA membership

One of the best YMCA at the neighborhood in terms of space, organisation and cleanness. The only drawbacks are the lack of some other activity as a pickelball or table tennis and very-very poor choice of group exercise.

To the director, why we cant have access to the pool in the evening when the swim teams taking the whole pool except one lane .And to use this lane the lifeguard told me there is a child than stayed quiet. I think i understood what she meant but isnt the child is being watched by lifeguards and the father who was there?!!! Please make sure to treat us swimming fanatics with dignity .we pay for a service that we dont get .please do something about it.

Swimming program is great. I wish more variety of classes are offered here.

The Original WHIPSNAY

Very nice place. Have now used it but was involved when it was being planned. Former Mayor O'Leary had worked very hard along with the Former Business Administrator Camille Tooker and the City Council to bring this to South Amboy. It's located at the end of South Broadway. If you go don't forget to stop by the County Park located on the other side of the railroad tracks. Great views of the Bay area. There is a walking path that goes from the Gazebo north to the Former boat launch. If you don't want to park in the park parking lot go past the entrance and then make the first Right turn. Follow that until it turns to the left. Once past the pool (private) go about 1 more block and park on the street. There are no signs but in-between every other house there is a walkway to the walking path. It is public access so if you are bringing a cooler it is shorter than walking from the park parking lot.
Go even further down the road till the only right turn. Make that turn and it leads to the fishing parking lot. It is NOT just for fisherman/women. So if you Fish or want to be right by the sand and water DON'T go into the park. Pass the park entrance and make first Right. Follow it around the left bend to the first right. Parking lot is right there. I believe you need a fishing license.

Very Clean! And I feel like nobody is on you when working out so you can work out peacefully and confident that youβre doing whatever you want without judgement from people. The staff are very nice and friendly. If you need training they have very good trainers for a very reasonable price. I did It once and that helped me keep on with my routine, specially when you donβt know whatm to do with all the machines! π

UPDATE 1/7/22: they got the pool back and it's great. and resistance bands and more core equipment with good classes.

Before the pandemic this place is a really great. Now it's still pretty good it's just that I miss the locker room and being able to swim and play basketball whatever. You have tobook the pool and basketball court advance now

So my son has been going to the South Amboy YMCA with his school the past cpl weeks. Today before they even got in the water he slipped in a puddle in the locker room and busted his knee. Apparently their "lifeguard" and "Swim Program leader" who are supposedly EMT certified had his teacher call me and tell me it was a small cut he was fine. She stated to me it was flowing pretty bad and would have the nurse look at it when they got back to the school. The nurse then called me when she looked at his knee and said it looked like it was deep and she had no idea why the YMCA down played it as an abrasion when it was more of a laceration. So she put some strips on it until I picked him up. When I picked him up his knee still hasn't clotted. I called the school who advised me to get the incident report from the YMCA. I called the YMCA they wont give me a copy of the injury report said the school was responsible for his injury (their wet locker room floor) and their staff controlled the bleeding and didn't find it necessary for him to receive immediate care because it wasn't worthy of stitches even though it looks like it could have used a couple and I in no way see that as their call. Then they told me I was being rude... could you blame me? I asked if this happened to their child wouldn't they? Really upset this is how it panned out. We were excited about the swim program.

I was only interested in the South Amboy gym. Cause close and convenient. Yes it's a small gym but I made due. Now they are putting in some turf and some stupid push sleds which take up a good portion. Now they machines and weights are all cramped together. The gym was small enough. What stupid idea. I talked to some of the regulars and they feel same and are not happy. Thanks a lot for that brilliant decision.
