This is all my opinion, but as a parent, I would strongly caution anyone considering this gym. The owner, Lee, has cultivated a very negative and unprofessional environment. He routinely speaks to mothers in a disrespectful and condescending tone, and his approach—something he proudly refers to as “The Star Way”—is essentially a “my way or the highway” mentality that alienates both parents and athletes.

The gym’s culture is driven far more by money and favoritism than by merit. It’s clear that the more you spend on private lessons, the more “preferred” your child becomes, regardless of their actual ability or effort. This creates a deeply unfair and discouraging atmosphere for the athletes who work hard but are overlooked because their parents don’t pay extra.

It’s also allegedly known among many families that Lee has been involved in inappropriate relationships with adult individuals connected to the program. While that is only rumor, the fact that it circulates so widely speaks volumes about the kind of environment he has allowed to exist under his leadership.

Lastly, it’s disappointing that Lee seems to reserve his harshest words for mothers, yet remains noticeably silent when fathers are present. It’s an unfortunate reflection of his character and leadership style.

If you’re looking for a program that values fairness, respect, and professionalism, I would highly recommend exploring other gyms. Your athlete—and your family—deserve better

We just finished our first season at Star and our daughter has never been happier! She knew from the second she walked in that this was the gym for her. We are so impressed by the entire program and we can honestly say it has exceeded all of our expectations. Star Athletics is such a great gym to send your children. They have instilled so many virtues in my granddaughter’s such as teamwork, responsibility, leadership, friendship and confidence in themselves. The coaches really care about the teams and the athletes. The athletes learn that not everyone is a winner every time. They learn to take a win AND a loss with grace and humility and to be a good sport. They have friends that they met at the gym and they are friends for life.

Cheered here from 2019-2021! If you're looking for a cheer family for your child I highly suggest this gym. I now coach in Maryland but the experience I got from this gym so many years back, have stuck with me through my coaching. Not only is this gym good for athletes and worth every penny, they teach so many life lessons. I will forever hold STAR close to my heart throughout everything I do in this sport.

I recently attended the Showcase 15 at Star Athletics gym, and I am absolutely blown away! From start to finish, the event was nothing short of spectacular. The energy in the gym was electric, and it was clear how much hard work, dedication, and passion had been poured into every routine. The organization of the event was top-notch as well. This will be my daughter first season,and I must say the professionalism and hospitality I received from Star and the staff has been a great experience for us. Our first day there, Lee greeted us, and welcomed my daughter to the gym. Marge been great as well, with answering my concerns. Even when we were exploring our options, the athletes made my daughter feel welcomed. I dont know the coaches yet, but my daughter looks forward to going to practice everyday. This is my daughter’s 4th season at Star. It is a D1 gym with a family feel. Everyone at Star goes above and beyond because they love what they do and they care about the kids. The coaches are professionals. They lead by example with kindness, respect, and a hard work ethic. My daughter Has been here for two years and she loves it here. Love this gym! Very trained coaches and dedicated to all the athletes and the all coaches, staff and owner are amazing. It has taught her to not accept anything less than the very best she can be. The teams are very close and they work together great. There is a lot of teamwork and hard work of the teams. They make sure you are always comfortable doing your skills. They are extremely helpful. She has learned so much and developed some great friendships with her teammates, aside from building her athletic skills. WOW is all i can say! This is my daughters 3rd year here and 12 cheering and i wish we came sooner . my 11 year old loved Star so much she decided to take on the star way this year and i couldn't be prouder. Owner/Coach Lee Grobstein knows his trade, but is not a good leader of young people. I'm fact, he cut my daughter, a leader on the elite team, because her mom questioned him and his refusal to change the routine. He took out his anger on an innocent 16 yr old. He berated her during practice, making her cry. He questioned her commitment to the team and made her feel terrible. She was skipping her Jr prom for cheer. She dropped off her HS cheer team because it conflicted with Star's schedule. She just started HS track, but skipped meets that conflicted with Star's schedule. She's the most committed athlete on the team. There's no question she was a leader. Then yells at her "why are you crying" as she's trying to get through the practice. This is behavior of a bully and unacceptable for a coach. You have to know how to motivate each athlete. They aren't the same. And for her to be such a good athlete that all the girls respected, just being cut because her mom questioned his coaching is unacceptable! Very bad! Join at your own risk.

Best decision we ever made. My daughter has been at Star for 3 seasons going on her fourth. The coaches are outstanding, they teach these kids how to be strong, respectful athletes and that this sport is not just about being winners. It’s about creating memories and having amazing experiences. The owner Lee is not your typical businessman. Your child is not just a number to him. He is not only a coach to some of the teams but he makes every cheerleader know that he truly knows them. He knows their names, he tells them how good their jumps are getting or he saw a new skill that was learned. He is at very competition front and center cheering our kids on along with their coaches. Great gym. Worth the 45 minute ride. They have their act together. The teams are amazing. My daughter learned more in the first few weeks at this gym than she learned three years at her old gym. They are strict but you can see that this pays off at the competitions. The kids learn very good lessons, including those they can carry into their personal lives. This is our first year at Star. The coaches encourage the athletes. They really show the cheerleaders the correct way/form to execute moves. I have no doubt the teams will perform amazingly this year. The communication that the owner and office manager provide is wonderful. I am always well informed and my questions are quickly answered. I would highly recommend star athletics. I was cheering at another gym for the past 7 years and was not feeling like I was reaching my true potential or meeting the goals I set for myself. I was not happy and actually started losing interest in the sport. I started looking at Star Athletics a few years ago but was hesitant to make a move since I built relationships with my teammates at my other gym. Making the move this year to Star was the best decision! I finally feel motivated and I can honestly say I LOVE cheering again! The owner and coaches seem to love what they do and inspire all of us to be the best we can be! They take the time to teach us what we are doing wrong and show us how to improve!
