We are interested in registering for a family membership, but the staff member at the front desk was quite impatient and unfriendly. He spoke very loudly and disrespectfully, which ultimately made us decide not to proceed with the registration..

I feel bad about giving a bad review but the YMCA mgmt. has left no choice. In spite of my dozens of complaints over a 1 year period, the Cardio section is kept at very cold 60-61 degree Temperature. I have cited OSHA & IFA recommended settings of 65-68 but they fix it temporary for couple of days & someone lowers it back to marathon runners requirements. It is flu season & last thing elderly members need it to get it from YMCAβs carelessness. Most members are elderly & I see them (& some of their trainers as well) wearing winter jackets in the cardio area even during summer. Strangely, the Basketball courts & weights area upstairs are kept at 68-69 degrees, but canβt understand what is the reasoning behind keeping cardio are so cold. Reception desk cannot adjust temperature & pass on the buck to their director.
Unfortunately the NYSC closed down the only other gym in our town, town residents have no choice but to join YMCA or drive to next town.

Terrible front desk staff. Every time the gentlemen at the front desk takes request, either for orientation tour, or request to cancel membership, the requests all got ignored, and I never heard back. It is extremely hard to cancel the membership.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. There are many programs available for all ages and abilities. There are many community events. There is a pool, gym, and weight room. Child care is available for when you take a fitness class.

Terrible I have ask several times to be on the mailing list. The Livingston YMCA is broken down and old. Pool has been closed several times and was never notified by email because I keep asking to put on the mailing list. So for several months Iβve been driving for swim class and told its been closed. Now I have to call each time to see if the pool is open. I wish this place would get its act together.

We had a gym themed birthday party here today for a group of 3 & 4 year olds. Kevin was incredible!!! He did a wonderful job keeping the children engaged and he was super helpful with set up & cleanup. There was nothing he wasnβt quick to help us out with. Kevin & the West Essex YMCA are the perfect combo for a kids party!

The most popular gym in Livingston and surrounding area. Stuffs at front desk and each of the sections are nice and helpful. Whenever people need help in training room s, they will come to help or assistant you.
The schedule of basketball court and swimming pool are packed. Kids and young people need to wait to 8:30 or 9:00 pm to play basketball.

Generally, Iβm very satisfied with the Y for working out.the gym is clean and the staff is super great. I am extremely unhappy lately of stage 3 swim class, they keep packing kids into the class. Each week there are new kids, and the instructor is overwhelmed. I have been bringing my kids here since Sept - and now Iβm removing them because I feel they havenβt made any progress with the lack of staff showing the proper techniques. Picture below shows huge class with one instructor.

My son went here as a baby- then later I worked there with him. Glad to see they're still around - my son is now 29! It was the BEST place I could find for my son after shopping around and visiting other area daycare centers - I was always impressed with the "above and beyond" care that was given to ALL the little ones!

We learned to swim their. I'm still not comfortable in deep waters without a floating device, but my granddaughter loves to swim, she loves the water. Ps I like the private swim lessons better. Thank-youπββοΈ

The swimming programs on this YMCA often cancel swimming classes but donβt bother to notify parents of swimmers. Their staff lie about sending notifications that are never received. Many parents also complain about this kind of unprofessional practice. Awful!!Stay away from this facility.

Great place! The treadmill and weight rooms very well equipped. Staff and trainers are generally very friendly and helpful. Warning: it's always super busy here but they have very long opening hours so you should be able to find your space without any difficulty.

Awesome Y, but it seems like they pooled a lot of their resources into the weight and cardio machines and left other areas of the Y almost outdated, such as no locker room renovations. Pool is too warm, sometimes it needs to be a bit cooler so swim team can practice better. Maybe a 6 lane pool instead of 4 lane.

Definitely masquerading as a nonprofit!
As a former member and YMCA advocate, I'm extremely insulted by their prejudice and bias.
With the facade that they were reviewing my application, my health recovery efforts have been deteriorated as there's only so much you can do in this wicked cold NJ weather. Extremely offended and disappointed.

Great staff and gym equipment is nice. My main gripe is that the basketball court and pools are almost always used for paid lessons. This leaves members with little windows of opportunity to use them. Make sure you know the gym/pool schedule before you hop on board.
