This gym is overpriced and not worth it. The elevator has been out for over a week and the gym is on the 7th floor. People do not wipe their machines, even if they did- the wipes are always running out. The workers in the front are so rude and are always on their phones. They do not make the place welcoming at all. The machines are outdated and frequently not working. Also the pool is basically a big kiddie pool, the lobby is always flooded with kids. Save your money and go somewhere else.

After year and a half of being a member, using gym, pool, sauna and hot tub regularly, I have zero complaints and Im more than happy to be there every week. My kids are happy too, they love the pool during Family time. They did some major repairs, put new machines and cardio equipment, and everything is maintained well. Building elevator sometimes doesn’t work, but it’s not their fault. 10/10

I went to this gym to try it out on a free pass before I decided not to join. This gym is well overpriced for its condition. The equipment and overall maintenance of the gym is old and some of the equipment is out of order and the sauna and steam room are also out of order. The price doesn’t match the quality of this gym at all.

I was really excited to try this gym, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The front desk staff lacked basic customer service, I was told to “just look around,” and although he offered to show me, it felt like he didn’t actually want to.

When I entered the locker room, there were puddles of water all over the floor, which was already a red flag. While the view from the gym was nice, the equipment and gym floor were dirty, and the showers weren’t any better. Many of the machines were outdated, and a few didn’t even work at all.

My son completed his second session with instructor, Leila and I was extremely pleased with the way she made him comfortable in water. She exactly knows his comfort level and my so has responded to that very positively.

The two sessions have been amazing so far as we hope he learns to swim soon with her.

Awesome gym!
The pool is well maintained and there is a large hot tub. There is an accompanying patio that overlooks Manhattan, Hoboken and Jersey City. The view is stunning.
The staff are easy going and they have plenty of towels, often warm from the dryer and smelling fresh.
Everything is handicap accessible.
The pool, the hot tub, the sauna and at least one disabled shower in the locker room.

I’ve been going to Xcel for almost four years and to this day I tell people it was the best gym decision I ever made. Not only is it the best deal for everything you get in a membership (turf room, showers, hot tub, sauna, tons of equipment, classes, etc.), but the staff is always upbeat, friendly, courteous and helpful. I have been going to XCEL Athletic Lifestyle for about six months now and I could not have asked for a better gym experience. For one, all the equipment is brand new. Also, all the staff is super friendly and more than willing to help you if you need help working out. I know for me I never wanted to go to the gym but this gym has allowed me to have an amazing experience and given me the motivation to want to keep going back. I'm not even sure why they bother running a gym when they use members' money to fund their own parties and splurge on Planet Fitness equipment. It's laughable. They act like they're so much better than the members they serve, but you can see right through the thin veil of "professionalism." Ask Lenny about Jayden's fillers; he'll know exactly what is being talked about.

I highly recommend anyone looking for a gym to find somewhere else, where plus size people are not running a gym. There are far better places to invest your time and money than here. Don't waste your time, especially when the management is so messed up. Maybe even just be like them, sit and do nothing and eat!

I’ve recently joined xcel and happy to see the gym keeps up with fitness trend from classes and equipment. The staff sends regular emails with ongoing updates. I find the facilities clean , alongside the accommodating staff with me being disabled having certain limitations. I highly recommend.

On Tuesday, before Jill's group class, I noticed that the sauna was down. After the class, I approached Kelvin, the only employee at the front desk, to ask about a timeline for repairs.
He told me that I had interrupted him while he was eating. When I asked if he was serious, he repeated himself, "thanks for letting me eat, bro." I understand that people have moments when they might be busy or distracted, but I was taken aback by both his tone and the lack of professionalism in his response.

This stuck with me and the following day, I decided to reach out to Lenny, the manger, to let him know how his guests were being treated at the front desk, hoping for an apology or an acknowledgment of the situation. Rather than addressing my concerns, Lenny rather aggressively suggested canceling my membership.

As much as I’ve enjoyed the convenience and group classes at Xcel, I accepted his suggestion as I don't see how I could continue to support a gym that would treat its members so rudely. I wanted to share this feedback in the hope that future members won’t have similar experiences. I'd look elsewhere for a gym membership.

edit: The unprovoked statement by Kelvin is at the heart of the issue here. If Xcel considers asking the front desk simple questions disrespectful than the problem is clearly deeper than I thought and rooted in their culture. I'm not sure why this behavior is acceptable to management and why instead of apologizing I was treated as an aggressor? Check out the video, I was walking away from the front desk when he barked at me about interrupting his meal.

I go here for swimming and the instructors are great. However, the facilities are not what I expected. They seem to be renovating because I’ve seen wet paint signs on more than one occasion. The elevator feels more like a freight elevator. And there seems to be no scanner to ensure that the people who are there are supposed to be.

Unlike other clubs like Planet Fitness Weehawken, NJ, this club has educated and very friendly personnel at the desk. Im changing clubs because Planet Fitness is so crowed and machines such as PEC FLY REAR DELT is always busy since they have only one and everybody who comes

Almost there. The space is great. The staff is really friendly.

The equipment is pretty dirty. The treadmills are covered in dead skin and dried sweat and all need replacing. The belts are broken on a couple of them and they’re all crooked or missing buttons.

For the area and price this gym is a good option though. The upkeep just really needs improvement. Cracked mirrors? come on.

I’d recommend to most people and just hope to see a bit of turnover and cleanup. Certainly better than the rip off Firehouse Fitness up in JC heights. Same price and way more.

It’s a decent gym but a lot of their equipment is worn down like their flat benches. They have come a part on me a handful of times when i am trying to adjust the incline. The major reason I am dissatisfied is that they will not open on time given any sort of inclement weather. Hoboken received two inches of snow and they are not opening until 12:00 pm. I understand that employees need to commute from different areas but if crunch and all the other gyms can find a way to open I think xcel can too especially with the amount of money they charge and Hoboken only receiving 2 inches of snow. I think it is a bit unreasonable to stay closed all the way to 12 pm. If xcel put more of an effort to opening I would be much more satisfied

The facility is great and very well equipped. But I happened to come across Xcel’s Instagram page and noticed a familiar face among the gym's coaches. This particular coach by the name of Courtney Roselle is someone I encountered at a previous gym, and unfortunately, our interaction was far from pleasant. She engaged in bullying behavior towards me, making fun of me and even spreading false rumors about my sexuality in front of other gym members. To make matters worse, she orchestrated for the gym owner to physically assault me after a class, when no one else was around. Given this past experience, I have absolutely no interest in being associated with any place where this trainer works. I find her to be fake, manipulative, and outright malicious. I believe it is important for anyone considering joining this gym in the future to be aware of this!

Decent gym and good location because there aren’t many regular gyms in the area. Reason I’m a bit peeved is not even that several machines are broken at any given time, but that despite asking them 5 time (to date) to have a trash for recycling, considering they generate insurmountable plastic waste daily, and also service two vending machines, have ignored the request to recycle. The old owners were lazy, they let the place fall apart, It was pretty disappointing. These guys came in, essentially remodeled most of the place, fixed everything that was broken, even that damn drinking fountain! It’s a lot better now, better furniture, better vibe, never that crowded after about 9 AM, another hidden gem and Hoboken! Has all of the equipment you need, plus a pool. Lacking in classes, and half the gym is wasted space as it is styled as a lounge. Add equipment here and the gym goes to 4 stars, add more classes and it would be 5 stars. Definitely better than planet fitness.

I would like to share a horrible experience that I have had with this facility last Friday (April 22nd, 2022). First of all, I have been visiting this location since the time of Sky Club. I stopped attending the swimming pool because of a heavy surgery I had on both of my knees. I was advised by my physician to swim as much as I can and that is why I started using the swimming pool again. I subscribed yearly and made the payment for the first month. Last Friday, I went there and the first lane which was close to the stairs for disabled people was allocated for kids. So, I started using one of the lanes in the middle of the pool. When I was finished, for being able to use the special stairs I swam over the dividing line and pulled myself out of the pool. All of a sudden, a swimming trainer who was sitting on the bench next to the pool, started yelling at me that I cannot use this lane like this. I tried to explain my situation because I can barely swim and each and every other extra move makes me tired. It was horrible that he did not want to understand that and went on yelling at me. I was going to the locker room, but I changed my mind to go to the manager to explain the situation. The so-called manager did not even care. I went to the locker room and changed. I again went to the manager and wanted to cancel my subscription so that I could avoid seeing this guy there. Believe it or not, the trainer started walking towards me by scolding me that I was telling some lies to the manager. Unbelievable! After I insisted a couple of times, the manager cancelled my subscription. I walked out and the trainer followed me to the elevator! He came downstairs with me by looking into my eyes, shaking his head in a threatening way. I took a picture of him. I was frustrated and the management did not give his name. Then I thought afterwards that I should have called the police. Yes, this really happened in XCEL Hoboken last Friday. I will do my best to tell this to everybody through social media channels. I will escalate this to higher level management of XCEL, and I will even think of exercising my legal right against this trainer and the facility.

Really impressed with this gym. It's not very crowded and pretty spotless. Almost didn't know it was a gym as the lounge and decor upon entry are so modern and trendy.

The staff is friendly, and the cardio section has beautiful NYC views. Lots of classes to choose from. Equipment and machines are up to date and the pool is pretty big. The gym appeals to everyone including families.

The only thing I noticed is that none of the hand sanitizer stations we're refilled the few times I checked, but I bring my own so this doesn't bother me.

The gym overall seems nice; some improvements like only 1 or 2 working showers and the steam room that has been promised for over a year now. I had a nightmare experience with the swim instructor... without getting into too much detail, I will not be sending my child back for any further lessons. I hope the gym addresses this unfortunate aspect of what otherwise seems to be an up and coming fitness spot in town.

Upon entering this amazing training facility, you can see how the new management has transformed this place! From its spotless appearance, to its modern amenities, Xcel has everything you need and does it all while still looking beautiful. Their lounge area and outdoor deck are perfect for relaxing after training sessions. There’s a newly added boxing ring and turf room. And the pool gives that South Beach vibe. World Class facility. New management has transformed this gym and continues to make investments. It’s clearly evident, quality fitness and member experience is what drives the culture of this gym. A clean, organized and elegant gym where you can get in an intense session then relax and unwind in the lounge area or outside deck.

My time will certainly be split between their Sports and Fitness facility in Fairfield and this one for the pool. This team crosses all the t’s when it comes to the training lifestyle.
