Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi is a yoga studio in Albuquerque offering holistic wellness classes consisting of yoga, tai chi, meditation, and breathwork based on 5000-year old Korean traditions. We offer a variety of yoga classes for beginners and more advanced classes to energize and heal the mind, body, and spirit.

Our friendly and inviting Albuquerque yoga classes include Body & Brain Yoga (all levels), Energy Movement, Core Strengthening, Meditation, Tai Chi, Tai Chi and QiGong, and more.

I walked in one day to check it out and in just a month my world has become so much brighter and enlightened. I had been doing therapy for over a year and taking anti depressants. Great place!! Helpful, friendly, honest, and kind people. Practice taught is healing and builds you up. I've had much treatment in many other areas.... PT, medication, massage, lots of doctors and even though all improved symptoms minimally, only this exercise gave something that minimizes the symptoms from beginning in the first place. Highly recommend being open to trying this. It will change your life!!!!

Before starting at Body & Brain two months ago, I didn't realize how much tension and noise I was carrying. The peaceful, fluid movements of Tai Chi have helped me find a sense of inner calm and tranquility. I feel different, in a wonderfully alive way. Even after just a few classes I was able to feel where parts of my body needed strengthening and improvement. The class has a good variety that keeps you feeling energized and focus. Our trainer keeps the classes consistent and welcoming every time. I see many of the other students enjoy and express gratitude for the outcome that they experience weekly. I did the Finding True Self workshop at the ABQ Center this weekend and it was incredible!! I went in for yoga and tai chi to reduce stress, because my job can be very stressful. What they teach is truly amazing. I had been exposed to a bit of some of the ideas for the past 8 years (what you think materializes & controlling stress through thought), but the classes at Brain and Body, the instructors and the reading materials are extraordinary. I was taught not to have contempt prior to investigation, and to be open to what you do not know. I'm sure glad I did, because what I am getting out of it is far far more than what I could have imagined.

Not a fan of their tactics to get you to sign up. You get an intro session with just you and a practitioner, who is very nice. After doing a bunch of exercises and jabbing a weird tool into your diaphragm, you are a little lightheaded and then they present you with a binder of all of their class packages and all inclusive trips to Sedona. Somehow got me to sign up for a $450 3 month intro package. After heading home and reflecting on the experience, I felt very manipulated and realized it's all a shtick. Luckily was able to cancel and get my money back. This may be the place for some people, but based on my experience and the fact the place was completely dead inside, it makes me wonder if people actually go here.

I've tried a lot of things (gyms, Tai Chi, home gym programs, etc.) to get my body healthier and keep it that way.ut never felt any of the programs really helped. I find most of the programs out there are for young people and not for someone in her 70s. Body and Brain is different. It's based on healing your inner body as well as your outer body, and you can participate as much as your body will allow. I've only been coming here for 6 weeks and find I can do more each time I come. I highly recommend Body and Brain and especially Master DaeHan at the Alameda location.

I was invited to an introductory class at Cottonwood Body & Brain center by a friend. It was a life changing experience for me. I had been searching for a place where I could gain knowledge about myself, my body and my brain. I didn’t hesitate on signing up.
I suffered a knee injury several years ago, and had difficulty walking, climbing stairs , getting in or out of a chair, or just bending my knee without pain. Through attending Tai Chi and Qi Dong classes regularly, I have gained my strength, balance, and flexibility, not only in my knee, but my entire body. My knee pain has reduced significantly and sometimes it doesn’t hurt at all. I know that continuing my practice will aid my healing as well as prevent future injuries. Body & Brain has helped me to heal myself physically, emotionally and spiritually. I’m truly grateful!

I have been taking classes at Body and Brain Yoga Tai Chi for approximately one month. In that short time I have experienced a significant decrease in stress. My body is more relaxed, i.e. I don't have tight tense shoulders from working on a computer. My physical strength has also improved, as has my general emotional well being. I am now smiling everyday instead of just occasionally. The staff is encouraging, happy, smiling, and very full of energy. The classes are fun, energizing, and never routine. I love the access to an abundance of in-person and online classes. There is always a class that works with my schedule, and I can always make adjustments to adjust to my skill level. Master Dan is great, he’s powerful, fun and light hearted. Their classes here combine physical exercises with energy/breathing awareness which has been extremely helpful in getting grounded into the body. Three months ago, when I first enrolled at Body and Brain, I was recovering from major back surgery that was slow to heal and left both of my legs slightly numb. Then came the virus which locked me down like everyone else. By the middle of March 2021, I was out of shape, lacked energy and had very little motivation to do anything. I selected Body and Brain because I had taken Tai Chi years ago and felt it was the best activity to regain strength in my body, particularly my lower back and legs. After three months of training, I have lost close to twenty pounds, decreased the numbness in my legs, and, best of all, Body and Brain addressed my lack of motivation and energy through very productive class time and workshops. Its been quite a few years since I have felt this integrated, this energized, this in control of my mind and body. I can't thank the two Masters that have instructed and supported me through the process: Master Hongik and Master Dan. All I can say to anyone who has read this far is that you must try this.

I am very happy to say it has been the most wonderful experience for me. The classes have been very beneficial for me both physically and mentally. I now have full range of motion in my right arm and no pain. Physically my health has improved, I am getting stronger and more flexible. The meditation part of the class is amazing. I've been waiting excitedly patient to write this, lol. Honestly, I knew this was perfect for me after my first class and initial consultation but I wanted to wait about three months of membership at Body & Brain Yoga Tai Chi Cottonwood so I could have good, honest results to give. Well... besides meditations & hiking, it's the best thing I've ever done for myself. I first decided to give it a shot after speaking with a friend of mine (who is also a huge and longtime fan) about how I wanted to learn and start Tai Chi. I'd wanted to start Tai Chi to improve my physical energy & health, mental focus & clarity, emotional stability, strengthen my spiritual energy & integrity. Presently, I have achieved them all! I've gone to all the weekly classes to see which I'd like best and am extremely impressed not only with the intricate & strategic planning of each individual class to incorporate Chi Gong, Tai Chi, BHP, Vibration Healing, Yoga moves & energy healing in the correct way to have the highest impact upon each student, but mostly with the the amount of Love and Grace that Master Shiwon and Master Dave lead you through the classes. I just celebrated my 39th birthday last week and can honestly say I feel like I'm 26. The loving help of Master Shiwon & Master Dave, have helped me exponentially heal my shoulder from an 11 year old hyper-extension injury that had never healed but one I worked through. My spiritual energy has increased to a point I'd only dreamed of, and with the added help of Master Hong-Ik, Master Yong Soo & Master Geum Gwang from sister Albuquerque center along with many fellow students from both, Master Shiwon & Master Dave have helped me live from a heart that's much more powerful, open and bright. Dahn yoga-Brain and body yoga has been a refreshing experience to the more commonly known westernized yoga businesses. I have practiced with basic yoga and hot yoga studios here in Albuquerque, which are "great and all" but only on a surface level--and comparable in monthly membership fees, and don't offer exceptional additional programs. Brain and body yoga however offers a far deeper experience, a true life journey if YOU choose. This is not superficial, it is a real journey you choose and the guidance of each master instructor is genuine. You are accountable to your own experience and journey. My experience with each Master instructor (Master Chun, Master Dave, Master HaeRang, Master Shiwon, Master Hongik) has been such that they each provide clear guidance to open your journey in this life and to connect with your spirit first and foremost. You must be the one to discover the needs of your body that you live within. The challenges you face with your body are yours-life is suffering-we all face challenges whether you can see them or not. These instructors are all steadily present to provide and offer you strong opportunities to connect and understand your body and mind to progress, but the work is truly yours as it should be. So many opt to blame others when anxiety and limitations are evident. The mentality of most is to go day by day in a pace of life that pulls you thru each day as a checklist that wears your body and mind down to a state of unawareness. We then find ourself years older and aged to a point of a long road to return to any sense of previous youth, we give in and give up eventually. We take for granted that the energy in all of us can be ever so strong to heal within, to reverse our body and slow aging time. As you invest in this practice you find yourself truly realizing that our soul is even more tangible than our body or mind. It is an experience that provokes a gain in your true being and character. As i see the reviews, yes there are opportunities offered that seem pricey, I have invested in some of these opportunities--each class or program has been FAR beyond worth the price in what you gain. There is potential to gain strides that build your holistic self-spirit, mind and body all in one focus. I have been a highly skilled BSN RN in Westernized medicine for 12 years, the focus in the western medical environment is only to treat a present ailment, minimal time is spent to make actual change, and the power is not within the patient but given to the providers whom cannot heal a broken body but only for a moment in time. As we all know the prices in the westernized medical market IS GROSSLY dispropotionate to the care and experience you recieve. Within Dahn or Body brain yoga, these are healing providers who give their life purpose to show you the way to feel, truly understand your body, and guide with earnest support. Their passion is to truly help others without exponential material gain; which we clearly see of doctors in every community of western culture. It is up to you to see yourself and heal yourself. You must be accountable to your own life. There is no pressure to participate in these additional opportunities, only encouragement as we all need. We all must understand our own money management and know the value of our time when making decisions in all that we do. I have interacted with so many whom have found immediate relief and progress thru either basic weekly class participation or extra programs offered. This most traditional yoga will help you find inspiration within the strength and energy you have within yourself. You must put forth the effort and open your heart to find a brilliant reward that only YOU benefit from. Our World NEEDS more individuals within the light of their true being to make change that benefits not only ourselves but in the end our Earth. When we care for our holistic self, we take deeper appreciation for the life we have now.

Dahn Yoga is a shadow of what it used to be. So disappointing because I really loved the ORIGINAL techniques of the class which have since been replaced with a piece of plastic. I'm NOT renewing my membership and feel like I've wasted a TON of money on a product that no longer exists. I'm SO sad, I used to be addicted to the classes as they were so much fun and the previous Masters so much more nurturing, understanding of special needs, non-judgmental, not burned out, caring and helpful. Been giving it a good try and give up! This business is only in the business to make money short term and don't care once they have your money. If they really wanted to stay in business then they need to commit to genuine teaching as I am a genuine practitioner of Dahn Yoga. I'll continue with the techniques no matter what as they are a part of me now, so for that I thank Master Dave, Master Sumi and Master Chun.

It is sad that for the second time in four years, I am forced to write a review about how poorly the Cottonwood (Albuquerque, NM) Brain & Body Yoga Center serves people with disabilities. Over that time, I have had masters who have taken the time to get to know both my strengths and my limitations and have had wonderful experiences with them. I have also had a master who blatantly tried to discriminate against me based on my disability and now have a master and regional manager who are clueless as to how to work with people with disabilities. Let me be specific. At no point has the current master, Shiwon, taken the time to sit down, talk to me and offer suggestions for alternate ways of increasing my flexibility or range of movement. When I tried to talk to Shiwon about cultural differences relating to people with disabilities, he became defensive The only suggestion offered by both Shiwon and Hang Rae, the Albuquerque regional manager, was to suggest that I drop down to attending class one time a week with Teresa Phillips, a fully trained Brain & Body trained master who is also a speech-language pathologist. While Teresa's classes are fun and relaxing, going to class one time per week hardly gives me what I need to maintain and strengthen my skills. It is also contrary to their model of encouraging more frequent participation. This again reflects their inability, not to mention, their reluctance to work with people with differences (It should also be noted that previously I did one month of yoga followed by one month of physical therapy – both practices together allow me to have maximum full body benefits). Communication on many levels (see below) is also a problem. I came to one class not knowing it was a wooden pillow class. When I went to pick up a wooden pillow, Shiwon told me I could not use the pillow. I then explained that I had previously used a wooden pillow and that I had my own approach that worked for me. As another example, whenever Shiwon does decide to use disco music for exercises, it is so loud that I and others have to leave the classroom. His classes tend to be repetitive with little variation on techniques. Even more ironic is that Brain & Body Yoga stresses the positive impact that yoga can on various disabilities and yet, it would appear that there is no systematic training program in place for either disability awareness or training to work with people with disabilities. How sad.

Another issue that has arisen under both Brain & Body corporate management and Shiwon's stewardship of the Cottonwood Brain & Body Yoga Center has been the lack of communication. This Saturday will be the 10th anniversary of the Center's founding. No email notice of the event was sent out until late Wednesday night. Individuals and families often have plans for weeks in advance. About three weeks ago I left a message with corporate management expressing these concerns and asking for a return call. No one has returned my call. This is not exactly a model of good customer service.

Given this, I cannot, in good faith, recommend Brain & Body Yoga for anyone with a disability.

The Cottonwood center is located right next to the Satellitte coffee, its a great location and the staff is always friendly and the classes are really invigorating.

Due to lower back pain and injuries I can no longer participate in the more "traditional" types of yoga. I started taking classes at the Dahn Yoga Center about 1 year ago and as long as I practice regularly see continued improvements with flexibility, pain control, and handling of stress as well as more energy and what you could call inner peace. I highly recommend this type of yoga for the above reasons.

Dahn Yoga has helped me become a stronger person physically, emotionally, and mentally. I have over come back and neck injury's. I have learned to control anxiety and have become more grounded through strengthening my core. The work shops have helped me to become more loving toward myself, and identify some of the information and feelings that have been keeping me stuck in the same patterns. I have grown and changed so much. I am so grateful for the support that I have received from the teachers and students on this path to healing!

I truly believe Dahn Yoga has made a huge difference in my life. For a long time, I have experienced lower back, neck, and hip pain and have treated with medicines that created more problems that the pain itself. In addition, the level of stress wasn't helping the paint either, however, since I started practicing Dahn Yoga, I truly can say "where were you Dahn Yoga? I needed you long time ago!" Moreover, the connection with Master Sumi and her sincere interest in helping me, and the guidance she provided, made me realized that Dahn Yoga is the best decision I made regarding taking care of myself. I've been going to Dahn Yoga at the Cottonwood Center on Alameda in Albuquerque for over two years. It is unusual, in that it is a kind of hybrid combination of tai chi, yoga, isometrics and ki gong. There is a steady focus on health and personal growth, and the teachers are very caring. It is possible to go to class after work three times a week and see quick and obvious improvements in physical health - strength, flexibility and balance. But the truly unique thing about Dahn yoga is that, for the individual who wants to stretch more than the body, they've got advanced trainings that challenge and develop body, mind and spirit in structured, supportive and loving ways. My physical health and strength have improved a lot, and I've also learned to deal with some of the stuck, messy residual emotional effects of having had health problems in the past. What I would say about Dahn Yoga Cottonwood, and about Jeff Woods, the center manager, is that whether you want the basics or to study the underlying principles more deeply, you will get skilled, caring support. I love it and I feel strong. :-)

I've been at Dahn Yoga for 8 months now. There are many things that I love about this place. I have connected and made friends with people in all ages and we work together to become stronger and happier.
