We aren't rock climbing pros and as amateurs, found this place to be great! For NM residents, the pricing was reasonable and felt right. If you're from out of state, you'd have to spend a chunk of time here to make it worth it. The staff were really friendly and overall, it was just a great experience.

Ya know, it’s the only gym in the area, so I’m glad it exists.

I had to drive a hour to get there, and so it just really wasn’t worth that commitment, but I was happy to get some sends in one way or another. The gym is small and the walls are made of finished plywood, so kiss smearing goodbye.

For how small the section is, there was a good variety of bouldering styles and grades.

The routes on autobelay were fairly boring, it seems they’re set up for children, which is fine, with the time frame I was there that definitely seems to be the larger population.

I was staying in Santa Fe for a while so I got a one month membership. It was a great place to brush up on my rope climbing but I also enjoyed all of the bouldering problems they set. The staff is very friendly. We mostly came to climb during the day when it was less busy and the crowd skewed a little older, so the vibe was quite mellowβ€”which we appreciated. Nice bathrooms, plenty of parking, and there’s even a small workout area if you feel so inclined to lift weights. We were sad to leave this place!

I wish there were more auto-belays and a cheaper rate for under an hour, but otherwise good. I miss the tiny old spot it used to be in across town!

Really lovely little gym. Staff were all friendly and helpful. There’s a good amount of autobelays and lead / top rope, as well as a lovely little bouldering island and a separate kids area. There’s an upstairs with hang boards and moonboard etc but I didn’t explore up there. And luckily there were tons of friendly climbers willing to chat with the solo climber breezing through town. Would love to visit again next time I’m passing through!

I love this place. There are 8 autobelays. They change the routes often enough so you don’t get bored- but with enough time for me to crack the code on the 5.9 I was attacking last week. I wish they had a Slackline. But I also find the staff super nice and helpful.

I love that there is a climbing gym in Santa Fe. Given the building codes, that is a challenge to be so close to the center of town. It is pretty popular at times, but I always find enough areas to keep climbing without interruption. I see some older reviews here that are actually for the previous location and as a business owner, I know Google doesn’t let you take those down even though they are irrelevant now.

This is a compact climbing gym that makes very good use of all of the space. I only a climber of two years experience, but I find that the bouldering routes an often a little harder than they are listed, at least in the V1-3 range. But I find plenty of challenges to work on, so that isn’t important. For a small gym, it has a bit of everything: bouldering, auto belay of all difficulties, top rope, lead climbing, crack climbing, hang boards, Moon board, and a small gym. They added electrostatic air filters in the last year.

Small gyms remind me of small grocery stores, it’s all there but in less real estate so you have to pay attention. Larger gyms only have a few more amenities (taller ceilings and more locker room stuff), but many don’t offer everything this gym has.

The culture of people who climb here and staff have been great. Occasionally I remind teens to give me more space for falling off the bouldering routes, and that is all the negative I can come up with in two years.

I was passing through santa fe a couple nights ago and decided to stop at this gym. It’s a great gym and has nice climbs, but there was this older guy that was yelling profanities and seemed to be harassing the employees. The whole situation made the environment feel unsafe and unwelcoming which is unfortunate.

I’m seeing a lot of similarities in the negative reviews and it happens to mirror my experience. I see a lot of excuses from the owner about the routes being old and polished and greasy. There is no way they are route setting as often as they claim, at least in the bouldering area.

Pros:
Friendly staff
Looks like a good community epicenter
Pretty impressive gear shop with good prices

Cons:
Problems were old
The poor setting made very few climbs enjoyable
$20 day pass and no cheaper option for bouldering only
Very chalky, don’t know if there’s a chalk eater machine, but I had to wipe chalk from my shoes for every climb

I hate leaving bad reviews for good people, but I hope this acts as a reminder that we are your customers and honest feedback is important.

I am from Tulsa, OK and I am regularly climbing at Climb Tulsa. Since I’m in Santa Fe for a week during Spring Break. I wanted to stop by Santa Fe Climbing on a first day in Santa Fe which I visited yesterday. The staffs greeted me and they are so helpful and friendliest! I enjoyed to challenges with different problem solved at the Boulder. I enjoyed with full experiences from enter the door to boulders which few climbers encouraged me to made top to greeted me again when I exited the door! Highly recommended!

This gym was okay. If you can climb v4+ on slippery holds then its good. They didnt have any VB and their v1’s were more like v2+. I came with a bew climber who couldnt top any of the problems.

Most of their setting is sandbagged (coming from someone who set routes for 2 years and has been climbing for longer). Their movement and hold selection didn't seem to make sense on a lot of the problems. The hands told me to go one way but the feet were on the opposite side, or using 1-2 finger pockets on β€œv1” problems, or slippery quarter pad crimps on a v3. We also waited for a while before someone greeted us, however once they saw that we were there, they were super nice.

It’s the only gym in Santa fe so its nice to just be able to do something, however they need to make it more accessible to beginner climbers (please!!!) I also heard a few other climbers talking about it being sandbagged while I was visiting so I know im not too far off, especially also after reading other reviews. I probably wouldn't have tried a day pass with my beginner friend if I had known, kinda felt like we got jipped.

I have been climbing at the gym for about 3 months and leaving the gym now. Overall, great gym. They change the routes out regularly so you are always in for something new. Staff and members are friendly and you can always ask for advice from almost anyone.

Cons, its super small, would be great if they could make the climbs much longer. They also make you belay, exactly how the insurance agency says, which is one specific way. While there are many ways to do it safe, pushing people who are belaying safe to do it their way is not smart and can distract you from being safe. Evaluate the safety, not the technique

Visited last week from out of town. We come from a smaller sized gym as well so comparison is similar. Positives: The staff were friendly and helpful, routes on the sport climbing/ auto belay were fun to climb, the landing mats were nice to land on. Negatives: bouldering area is much smaller in person. Many holds were polished smooth and/or in need of cleaning. Some holds were so dirty, it was difficult to see the color. Some routes overlapped with the same color so it was a little hard to tell what hold goes with which route. It just feels cramped overall. Pricing is a little more expensive than we would have liked to have paid for the time we spent there.

Source: Google

A lot of the holds were polished on the bouldering island. The gym itself is small. Didn't have a lot of options unless you can confidently climb V5 and above. I wish I had walked around and looked before I paid.

Visiting the climbing gym twice a week is an essential part of my life. From the perspective of a 65-year-old, who started climbing at the age of 62, I have always felt very welcome and very comfortable going to the gym. The instruction that I have received has been very helpful and very patient. Anyone who is a senior should consider taking up climbing. It works out your whole body and you can progress at your own speed. The community that Andre and staff have created here is so warm and encompasses all ages from 4 or 5 to 70+. I would like to especially mention Joey, who has been my instructor on many occasions. His enthusiasm and positive attitude are always appreciated. There are yoga classes, nutrition workshops, etc.

It is the climbing gym of a small city and one should not try to compare it to larger gyms in a large city. But, everyone is friendly and you get to know staff and other members by name. I have really enjoyed joining other gym members for movie night at the Violet Crown when there is a climbing film being shown! Please support this wonderful asset in our community. R. Connan

Was disappointed by this gym. The day pass was $20, which was somehow more expensive than much larger, well-equipped gyms such as Earth Treks. The weight room is lacking and there aren’t any showers or other amenities. The bouldering walls were wooden, and had few V0-V3 routes that were accessible.

A really fun gym. It's a little smaller than most gyms when it comes to bouldering, but they really make use of there space and set some good dynamic routes. My wife and I are visiting Santa Fe and I'm so glad this gym is here. Very friendly staff and the gym is definitely a sport/top rope climbing focused gym. They have a stretch and workout room, and multiple finger boards as well as a tension and a moon board. If I'm ever in the area again, I will absolutely stop in to this gym somewhere along the way.

We are Colorado climbers who thought I’d be fun to do a little climbing after a 6 hour drive. But It was a frustrating, they failed my wife on the belay check, who was a more experienced top rope climber than the girl was checking us β€œfor not braking fast enough”... Routes are greasy and terrible set, and rather than changing routes (which should be done monthly to every other month at MOST), it just look like they started stacking routes over each other (ESPECIALLY in the Boulder section)! Gym has potential and could be fun with a little love and experience.

I've had a great experience at SF climbing center so far. As a long time climber, I was looking for a place to train after moving here recently. The gym has a wide wall of rope climbs (toprope and lead), and has a decent bouldering area. If you're a serious climber, they have a nice training area upstairs. It includes different widths of campus rungs, a pretty big spray wall, and a few different hangboards (Beastmaker 1 included). There's also a nice area with some weights, rings, and pullup bar. Definitely no excuses to not get strong here.

Looks like it's probably a great gym, but on the day I came it was a schoolhouse playground. 10 minutes after I arrived the place was invaded by 3 different groups of pre-K children, which made it impossible to actually get a workout in. Not just because they overtook both the bouldering and rope areas, but they were also giving each other piggy back rides and generally running amok with no adult supervision. The staff didn't seem concerned either. So, children, you can have it. I'll go somewhere else.

Wish it was bigger and had more overhanging lead climbing terrain, but it's nice, the mats around the boulder are fantastic, the routes and problems change frequently and seem to be well set (can't comment on this for the harder grades), and (like most gyms) it's full of friendly climbers.

Staff is kind and helpful. No micromanagement but still present if we needed them. We had a birthday party there and everyone had a fantastic time. Highly recommend!

Good people, quiet during the day, my only issue is that the climbing walls are much shorter than any other gym I've been to

Lots of really cool people to meet here. I really like the training area upstairs as well. It's a great place for friends and family alike to have fun.

I think the Santa Fe Climbing gym is amazing. The staff is super professional, particularly with regard to programs geared for children. If you have a child, enroll them immediately into any climbing class or have them join the kids' climbing team. Children benefit immensely from climbing at the gym--learning about teamwork, focus, overcoming fears, supporting peers, balance, poise, and the great feeling that comes with getting to the top of a climb. I am so grateful for SFCC. Thanks!
