Aviator Sports & Events Center near JFK offers family-friendly fun with ice rinks, basketball courts, gymnastics, rock climbing, and diverse events. The spacious facility is popular for parties, tournaments, and community activities. Some areas could use revitalization, but staff is welcoming, parking is free, and thereโs entertainment for all ages.

Update: this facility was shut down for financial reasons. "Aviator offers two open gymnastics sessions for adult & teens (confusingly called Free Running). 2.5 hours on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Best deal in town (not that it's really in town)."

Ice skating is a beloved recreational activity that brings families and individuals together. Many in the community, myself included, look forward to opportunities for casual skating without the structure of a class or program. Unfortunately, the current setup excludes those who wish to enjoy skating at their own pace or introduce friends and family to the experience in a relaxed environment. If it's operating by national park service it should have public in mind not business !!!

Edit: Unfortunately, I have to update my review to 1 star. After covid aviator stopped doing public skating and the website hardly said anything about it, I traveled 2 hours for nothing. It's really a shame. I love ice skating, and this was my favorite rink. Tried another rink, and it wasn't the same. I've stopped skating until I find a new rink. DO NOT GO HERE TO SKATE
Outdated review:
I've been to three of the rinks here in NYC and I'll say I love Manhattan but I felt like I would get sliced up in Chelsea by the reckless skaters and one in queens that had kids tossing gummy bears on the ice bad first ice experience for me.
Aviator is far-ish for me but worth the 8am wake up on a day off to go there and get a full day of skating in is worth it. I've gotten so much better at skating here. I hope to get a coach here in the near future just to polish up the basics. I really like this rink. Plus lots of food options. I do miss the frozen yogurt though....

First time here this weekend for a soccer tournament. Handicapped parking available but then it's no where near the soccer field. The walk was too far for a person who has difficulty walking. There's an unused lot behind the bleachers, maybe start utilizing it in the future.

Excellent ice-skating rinks. Hidden gem in Brooklyn. They offer freestyle ice-skating, lessons, ice hockey. All indoors. Massive Olympics size rinks. Professionally maintained. Excellent prices. Check for other family activities.
Open year round in Brooklyn. They have classes, private lessons and free style. Their ice coaches are top notch, former national and world champions. They don't advertise so it's unveil that they have been here forever. Their website is from a few generations ago. Small price for huge rewards. Prices are much better than anywhere in the metro area.

The place is absolutely horrible. Do Not send your child here for summer camp.
I registered my daughter for the summer camp and the new camp director kicked my 4 year out of camp after 2 days. All because she cried because she wanted to stay in the pool. After she was fine. The summer camp staff is completely inefficient. The new director Robert proceeded to tell me that my child needs special help. Special help because over one crying incident?! I was absolutely appalled because if thatโs your reaction to a 4 year old then you really shouldnโt be anywhere near children. He then told me that they have an incident report and when I requested it, he refused to give it to me. So you calm to have an incident report about my child and you donโt want me to see it. Sounds very unlawful.
To make matters worse, I signed up for aviator camp through 1199 and Aviator attempted to bill 1199 for my daughter attending for the entire summer. When I tell you I would never recommend them to anyone. Two days in attendance and you try to bill for a whole summer. Honestly, I really should make a complaint to Gateway National Recreational because the service here was absolutely atrocious.
UPDATE - Based on Aviator response.
Aviator is obviously trying to save face in the public eye because they know their actions were absolutely uncalled for. Then they say they recommended 1:1 programming but tried to bill for the whole summer. My child couldnโt attend any other summer camp because of this, which was extremely inconvenient and flat out crazy. Maybe your staff is ill equipped because you employ high school student with no experience but I digress.
Then the lies. They never offered to let me or my wife view the report virtually; the director Robert refused to give us a physical copy. Why is that? We asked about the staff members involved? Oh theyโre unavailable. I even spoke to one of the camp counselors and he said it wasnโt that serious. Sounds like aviator wanted free money.
1199 were quite shocked and their management had to get involved because they couldnโt believe what happened. They tried to help us find an alternative but guess what the issue was. Aviator continuing to bill when my child was not in attendance. Any place that is saying there were multiple incidences in a 2 day time span and kick out a 4 year old who doesnโt have any cognitive issues as your Director Robert implied, should not be allowed to supervise children. You should really be ashamed because your actions penalized a 4 year old for literally being a child.

Pre covid there used to be public skating. It was great. Now there isn't anymore. Such a shame. I can't find any reason why online. And you can't even leave a message to inquire because the mailbox is full. It just hangs up on you. Very disappointing. Bring back the public skating!

If one is familiar with "competitive" facilities outside the city, upstate, or in NJ, aviator is a joke. The most ridiculous part is the signage, or lack thereof. There are no useful maps, either online, or onsite. Wandering around to find a specific soccer field, even to find a way in, can take half an hour. That this is considered a flagship makes me embarrassed for them.

My three-year-old went to ONE Preschool Gymnastics class.
- When we arrived, there was no introduction or orientation, despite it being our first session. The Director of Gymnastics, Jenn Dooley, was present but did not engage with me at all.
- The class had a very high student-to-teacher ratio, about twenty children and two teachers. Jenn and her co-teacher failed to manage the children effectively, not providing extra support to the younger ones who couldn't follow instructions as well as the older children. The class is for ages 3-4.
- The class eventually broke into groups with one group going with Jenn to the bars and the rest of the group, the younger group, going with the co-teacher, a black woman with braids. This teacher was not paying attention to the children, she was biting her nails, and looking at the ceiling while my child was able to run away into areas with no supervision. She was able to climb structures that she couldโve fallen off of. I intervened several times and redirected my daughter to ensure her safety. At one point, I called out directly to the teacher to point out that my daughter was wandering into another class, where the girls were doing jumps and someone could easily get hurt. Her lack of response was unhelpful and she was obviously irritated by our concerns.
- Shortly after, a third staff member was called onto the floor, presumably to help. Immediately after stepping into the gym area, she fake-lunged towards my daughter aggressively and threateningly, as if she was going to fight her. She led the group of 4-5 kids to the other side of the gym and stood there, not engaging them at all, while the other group was actually learning and working on the equipment. My child wandered off again towards an area where she was at risk of being hurt. Fed up, my husband intervened. When we tried to address the issue with the teacher, she cut us off and began to aggressively argue. She blamed our daughter for not listening, ignoring the fact that she is only three years old and that such behavior is expected at this age. She completely overlooked the lack of engagement from herself and the other teachers. Jenn did not offer any assistance throughout. These individuals should not be working with children if they do not understand children.
- Attempting to escalate the matter, I approached the front desk to inquire about who was in charge. However, Robert at the desk refused to provide any contact information for the owner or Jenn's superior, stating that only Jenn could provide that information.
- There was an evident disparity in attention and inclusion for my daughter and another BIPOC child, which starkly contrasted with the treatment of their Caucasian peers. This discrepancy suggests a troubling undercurrent of discriminatory practices within the staff, which, paired with the lack of clear organization and supervision, negatively impacts the childrenโs overall well-being.
The requirement for liability waivers, despite the lack of a structured gymnastics program and the employment of instructors ill-equipped to ensure participant safety, is perplexing. This approach seems particularly misguided given that Jenn and the General Manager have been in their roles for over a decade without establishing operational standards or safety protocols. It raises the question of whether complacency has set in due to Aviator's long-standing presence, or if there's a lack of engagement from the leadership and ownership in maintaining program structure.

The Aviator Sports & Events Center is a dynamic facility located at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York City. As a concessionaire of the National Park Service, Aviator has revitalized four historic aircraft hangars and their surroundings, offering 175,000 square feet of indoor sports and event space. This includes two NHL-sized ice rinks, a 20,000 square foot multipurpose Field House, and a 15,500 square foot Gymnastics Center. Outdoor facilities boast two full-sized turf fields for various sports. The center is a hub for athletic activities, hosting leagues, camps, and special events, and itโs also a place where history buffs can appreciate the preserved legacy of New York Cityโs first municipal airport.

Aviator is a great place once you get inside but the management goes out of their way to make it hard for people who are commuting by bus. That's either a class thing as in they don't want people coming there who take the bus or they are extremely inconsiderate there are two bus stops directly across the street from a gate that people can walk through but the ,management keeps the gates locked forcing you to walk all the way to a small opening and walking back around. If you get off at the main stop you will walk around 3 /4 a mile to get to the entrance and the bus stop is right across the street.if you walk from the second stop you will walk something like a 1/2 to quarter of a mile to get to the entrance. Both bus stops have a gate right across the street that are just locked for no reason. If you have a a disability or injury it's very hard to get inside

Awesome spot, even though it's a bit remote. Tons of space, and it's a fantastic choice for kids' birthday parties. Loads of games and arcades for everyone to have a blast and catch some junior hockey action. The kids had a great time, and there are plenty of party choices. The huge, well-kept skating rink is a big hit and quite popular. They also offer seasonal games and ticket coupons. Highly recommend checking it out.

This arena was a host for a youth hockey tournament last weekend with multiple teams from out of state. Absolutely disappointed in the rink; there was not a pro shop for skate sharpening; both snack areas/concession areas closed and all vending machines were not in working order. Apparently, nothing has been re-opened/accessible since prior to COVID. Two large Gatorade buckets were in the common area- although empty and we had to ask the one rink attendant to fill. Bathrooms were not attended to. Disappointed a rink in this condition was allowed to host a three day tournament.

Aviator Sports is an amazing facility, and has tons to offer. However when asking about having engagement photos taken at the establishment Cheri was extremely nasty and rude over the phone. She didnโt even listen to what I was asking or saying. I advised her that I sent an email with all the questions that were needed to be answered. She said she would have to charge me the rental fee for the outdoor field for an hour and 30minutes. I said ok so how much would that be? She says Iโm not too sure itโs a day we are currently not open to public unless there is already a scheduled event etc. (figuring when you call someone back who has sent you questions she would have prepared and already have answers to give you) so I said if it was too much of a hassle (a big deal) then itโs ok we will look elsewhere. She comes back and says that it is a big deal and very big deal with a disgusting attitude. So again I repeated that we would look for a different facility since itโs too much of a hassle for you guys right now. I simple Iโm sorry we canโt accommodate your request would have been acceptable. Cheri is just terrible with customer service. I understand you have a lot going on and there is protocol to follow and if that is something that was expressed when you first got on the phone I wouldnโt have been so disappointed with the way you handle things. Just goes to show you didnโt listen fully to the voicemails and you donโt check your emails regularly for the email was sent 3 minutes after my initial call. Just really upset with how Cheri handled things. Could have been different.

I took my family to go ice skating here on February 19, 2020. After skating, one of my guests went to retrieve their shoes and return the skates. Their shoes were returned to them completely soaking wet! When the issue was brought to the attention of the employee working that area, he nonchalantly said " the ice on the skates above dripped into the shoe, sorry". I attempted to get a manager right then and there, no one was available, so I wrote a note at the front desk about the issue. I waited days for a call back and never received one. I called numerous times, no one answers. Finally got someone on the phone who gave me the managers email. After several emails back and forth, Aviator did nothing about the shoes that were damaged by their neglegiance. By the way they were UGGS, completely soaked through. My guest was made to wear home in the cold. Horrible!

I ran events at Aviator for over 10 years. Over that amount of time, you get to know people - and they really do look out for their customers. They build relationships, go above and beyond, and made it a pleasure to run events at their location. The facilities are fantastic - the bar/restaurant is terrific, and I would have no hesitation hosting events here again. I enjoyed working with Dean for many years - and if you had an issue, you could be sure they would listen and do what they could. Thank you Aviator.

Since Aviator decided to split up the skating rink in nearly half - for bumper cars on ice, it made it far more crowded and impossible to skate there. Me and my family aren't coming back. I see from the owner comments below that the bumper cars are taken of during the weekdays. Most of us who have children can only come in on the weekend - it's was already crowded when the full rink was available, now it's borderline dangerous as beginner skaters have no room and flail / bang into adults and children. Bad idea for short term $$ to be made in bumper cars. We'll find another venue further out in Long Island that is dedicated to skating.

It would have been a five but there has been some changes and it wasnโt for the betterment of this place. Combining the new bumper cars on ice and ice skating was a horrible idea. There is not enough space to skate and the ice gets very difficult to skate on because it turns into what looks like shaved ice very quickly. There isnโt enough space to skate at all yet we are paying the same price for a smaller Skating ring size. Just a horrible idea!! The food use to be good now itโs just taste like frozen food heated up.

Went there for ice bumper cars. Plenty of other fun diversions. Even tried the ice skating. Great, great fun.

Great place to play indoor sports. The basketball court is always in good shape and is regulation sized. The turf fields are great for either soccer or a touch football game. There's an ice skating rink that looks like it gets a lot use. The parking lot is spacious and has plenty of handicapped parking

Bad stuff. No line on the turf. Also nets onthe side of turf might cause serious injuries

The additions of the bumper cars just takes up way too much space. When everyone is crowded accidents are extremely likely to happen and when I went there, it was so crowded that there was barely any space to even skate. I attempted to skate and a girl rams into me and makes me fall down which in turn makes 5 more people fall down because there is barely any room to skate. Is it really worth to put the bumper cars over the experience of ice skating? I used to love going here to skate but now it just feels like all the management wants is money and are just putting the bumper cars for monetization. Also not everyone has the time to go Ice skating on the weekdays and when there is time in the weekend, the bumper cars make the experience terrible and not worth the money to even go. Would not recommend going until after they make a change with the bumper cars.

I can second reviewers earlier stating that the rink becomes unusable for skating since their "improvement" to the ice programming - bumper cars. When in session these cars occupy almost 1/2 of the rink and considering
that they also reserve space for the lessons on the skating side you are left with the ice even smaller than cruise ships to skate on (not exactli NHL rink as advertised). The schedule on their web site lists those sessions only on weekends and Friday night, but it is not so. Several times on weekdays (not the holiday week) they had these sessions in place as well. They also start public session 25 min late to accommodate placing borders and the cars on the ice. After pointing that out to the manager of ice operations Avnon I was informed that they reserve the right to change the schedule anytime without posting it .Fortunately here in NY we have the other options, at least at winter time.

Security guard where really bad and treated us very poorly. It felt like I was profiled, all I wanted to do was watch my brothers play basketball and they were already on the court but I was told no spectators which was a completely lie Iโve come here several times now I had to stand out side in the cold and wait for them to drive them home because I wasnโt allowed in even tho I got here at 11:29. Iโd also like to add that there was already serval people spectating and this is a common thing there so I didnโt understand why lie and say thereโs not spectating, not just that but after explaining I came in a Uber and had no ride my phone was dead and we were in the middle of no where, I told them I only needed the keys to the car so I wasnโt out in the cold and they made me wait till it closed which was at 2 am so I was outside from 11:29pm to 2:16am in freezing weather.

Decent food and basketball court. Half of the rink is completely ruined because of the bumper cars that most of the time is empty, creating a small area for tons of skaters to deal with. It would be better if they got rid of the bumper cars.

The center was good and the staff are friendly. It is a bit out there, but once you make it out, you'll have a good time. One thing that I would recommend is that there are more lights outside of the center.

Absolutely disgusting, disrespect service, bad place to take kids. All the people there use curse words and say it loudly. A facility should good service with people who have some sort of respect. This is the last time I will be going there for sure.

I came with my family for the ice bumper cars on Saturday night and had booked online beforehand. The time for our scheduled session came and went, but there were no staff at the rink where the signs for bumper cars were and an ice hockey team was using the rink. In the end we waited for 55 minutes past our scheduled time (we actually came 15 minutes early, as per the Aviator guidelines, so we waited for over an hour) without any communication whatsoever from any staff. In fact, there were no staff in the area at all until after the ice hockey game concluded. After the ice bumper car session, I spoke with a manager to receive compensation for this inconvenience, and the manager on duty, Joe, told me that I would need to contact a customer service representative, and he gave me his card. Unfortunately, the customer service representative, Bobby, was curt and unhelpful and simply refused to provide any compensation. While we did enjoy the bumper cars, I would not recommend this service as the inconvenience of waiting and lack of communication and customer service throughout made the whole experience quite unpleasant. I hear that Bryant Park has similar bumper cars - I will be trying those instead!

Great place for family. But. . . Hundreds of people go ice skating and so a genius decides to make the rink 1/4 smaller to let bumper cars in ice. There are eight bumper cars. EIGHT. that use a quarter of the rink. What are you thinking? Stop this nonsense immediately.

Ice skating area is now reduced to 2/3 of the rink Fridays Saturdays and Sundays due to bumper cars attraction! This is a big downshift for regular skaters like myself and my family that makes us look for another place that offers a complete rink.

My grandson is attending the summer camp at Aviator. He is very happy there with no complaints. He attended another camp for two years and was very unhappy. I would highly recommend this facility.

My son plays basketball here and played soccer in the past. The coaching staff is very attentive and engaged with the kids development. I usually find the center to be clean despite so many small children running around eating snacks. The cafeteria is just ok. Everything from the grill is fried so be warned for the healthy eaters out there. I ordered a black bean burger and they deep fried it instead of grilling it. All in all it's a good place for sports and events.
