Was a member at Jada Blitz, a gym that was unique in the area and sadly sold the spot to Catalyst. Now that the corporate greed gym is in place it’s impossible to cancel my membership- new fees pop up all of a sudden, can’t cancel in person, only some random sketchy email that might be shipped overseas.

Don’t waste your money or time, it’s not the same and never will be - planet fitness clone with worse customer service somehow.

The staff at this gym is unmatched. Alexa was a total pleasure to set my membership up with. Wyatt and Luke are fantastic trainers who take them to help you and explain thoroughly so you understand. They greatly improved my form on many exercises. I never felt like they were bothered with helping me. Jenna, Joanie and all the others upfront are always pleasant and helpful. Thr gym itself is pretty good, I would like to see some equipment upgrades compared to the other gyms. But it's great for what I'm doing. They also have a zero tolerance for clowns. So take that non-nense to Crunch since they don't care what anyone does. They have a large selection of drinks and meals,as well as a smoothie/protein bar. You should be sold by now! 😁

Staff is friendly and helpful. I work out early in the morning and have no problem using the equipment I want. They also have a very nice turf field and Olympic weightlifting section with bumper plates and sleds in addition to the more traditional machines and free weights.

I signed up for a gym membership with Catalyst in December 2024. In March of 2025, I began having health issues as I had a knee injury and would now be unable to go to the gym. I contacted the Catalyst location I had regularly gone to, on Broadway St., in April 2025 and told the gentleman at the front desk that I had torn my meniscus and would be unable to attend the gym. I requested to cancel my membership and was told since it was due to an injury, it would be notated in my account and I would have no future charges. However, they still charged my card again. I called again and explained my injury and that I could not walk or drive. Now, in July Catalyst is saying I have a past due balance, there are no notes on my account and that my membership was never canceled. I emailed Michelle Mesel, who the front desk member of the club my contract was assigned to, said needed to be sent the proof of injury to cancel. I included a doctor's note describing the extent of the injury and why I could not go to the gym, my contract stating I can cancel due to injury, and the actual MRI reports of the tear. Michelle said that my membership still could not be canceled, even with the proof and that there was a past due balance from April-July because the original report of my injury was never notated in their system.

Update: About a day or two after I posted this review I was told if I take care of the past due balance my membership would be canceled. There was a past due balance of $84.98 (which Michelle worked with me on for the inconvenience) from the lack of notation of the initial call. I paid the balance even though it was no fault of my own and was granted the cancelation.

Is this the best gym ever? No. Is it the worst gym ever? No. I have been going to Wherle for years now and it has slowly been declining since both Colvin and Maple opened. For starters simple things like refilling bathroom products (toilet paper, soap, paper towels) and hand sanitizer have become non existent. Additionally, the turf has holes and needs to be cleaned. Weights on both the turf and the cable machines are missing labels so it’s a guess as to how much you are lifting. I understand that improvements take time but it is also clear that basic housekeeping isn’t even happening some days. I also stopped used the hydromassagers because they were always broken. I’m not saying this place needs to be perfect but it could use some love and attention. At times it feels unfortunate that I pay $25 a month because I’m not quite sure what I’m getting for this price.

I came here from Crunch and WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! 98% of the people that come here are respectful, friendly, not rude in any way. The staff is usually always busy doing SOMETHING. Cleaning bottles are rarely empty and paper towels always full. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Alexa, Wyatt, Jenna and Luke are always welcoming when I come in and willing to help if I have a question. I do wish they would replace a few pieces of equipment that people hardly use with things people use more of. There's not really a GOOD shoulder press but on the flip side they have a standing shoulder press which is pretty cool. But to use the shoulder press I like I have to go to Broadway. An upgraded curl or preacher curl station wouldn't wouldn't hurt. But these are minor things. If your membership includes it, you can go to a number of gyms which have different features, and is convenient. I'm more towards Broadway when I'm working so I can hit Broadway quick instead of going to Wherle and back to Depew. All in all, it's the way a gym should be. I'm happy.

This gym may be getting overlooked due to the new ones, but it's still a good gym. Has decent equipment, but nothing like the Elmwood, Colvin and Maple locations. It would be nice to have this one update, and no more cardio machines. The amout there is way too much.

I would like to preface this with Catalyst advertises themselves as a “no-hassle” for quitting. I would also recommend people read their Better Business Bureau reviews.
Anyways, I called the gym back in January to end my membership. I was told that was it and went on my way. In March I noticed that I was still getting charged from Catalyst. I took this to my bank to refute (which somehow they ultimately did not honor). I also spoke to some lady at Catalyst who absolutely refused to accept that I ever spoke to someone and cancelled my membership. She told me I had to go in person and sign a cancellation contract and when I told her that was never expressed to me in January, she just told me I was wrong. I went in person and the person at the desk that day, Alexa, told me that they had staffing issues in January (when I quit) and confirmed that they had people telling clients they were good with their terminated memberships, no further action needed. She also told me there was a good chance I would not get my money back (which was 1-true, 2- crazy cause she admitted to me it was their mistake?)
So overall, yes there was hassle and I lost $80.

Went here hoping when the equipment breaks someone will actually fix it in a reasonable amount of time. Its going on a month since I joined and there is now six machines broke and one sink in the bathroom. Also all the faucets in the lockeroom are ready to fall out! Very disappointed to say the least.Instead of building new gym ,take care of the ones you have!

The Wherle location is the worst gym in all of Buffalo. This is shocking after they collect 50$ from every member after only one month of being a member. The sauna smells like farts and free weight area also has a terrible stench. The manager here is rude and tries to explain how the gym is using the proceeds they collect to better the gym when the gym has not changed in the slightest since they opened. The only thing they have done is paint an inspiring message on the wall recently when other members agree that new equipment or a good cleaning would be better than paint. This gym is money hungry and it’s obvious, I have not seen the owner in months when she used to be there a lot. They also charge late fee of double the membership and they make no effort to contact you when payment is needing to be updated. My card was hacked several times and I’ve needed to update the payment, the staff doesn’t care in the slightest about the state of the gym or helping members when issues arise. The customer service at this location is beyond lacking. This gym is a disgrace to the area.

I like this gym even though the members are some of the worst I’ve experienced. About 1/4 of the time I enter the sauna I notice some jerk put peppermint essential oil directly on the hot stones. Bad for your health but im sure they “did their own research” for themselves and everyone else who uses the sauna that day. They don’t clean up after themselves or rerack their weights, less so than anywhere else I’ve been. I cant fault them on bad members though so 5 stars to the gym.

I've been going to catalyst for just about three years at different locations. The people who work there and the people who workout their are cool. The equipment just about always working and if a machine is down it's up within the week. I love the sauna and the hydromassage. If you have time I recommend the shake bar that they have. Some shakes are a bit pricy but I recommend the strawberry lean.

Just added this location onto my plan (or upgraded) and it was one of the best choices I’ve made all year.
Very much appreciate the layout and staff I’ve encountered so far. Their equipment is rock solid.

UPDATE: While I don’t anticipate leaving and going to a larger, nationwide chain or a small personal fitness studio, there’s been a considerable change since joining in early 2022. I believe Eggert Rd closing and moving to Colvin/290 location, which is also being restored, is leading to Wehrle becoming overcrowded even with Meyer/Maple location not being too far away. This is happening outside of rush hour times.

Fellow gym-goers have very little gym etiquette and hardly any regard for personal space within reason. Re-racking weights and cleaning up sweat marks is too difficult to do these days. Most times, the sauna isn’t a relaxing environment and I shouldn’t have to bring my headphones in with me which would inevitably damage them anyways. I witness far too many guys over time use the bathroom and never wash their hands going back onto the gym floor. Entering/exiting the locker rooms is full of blind spots especially when people don’t look up or where they’re going resulting in confrontations. Gotta love it 😒

Above all else, even with routine rearranging that has occurred, there is not enough walk space throughout this gym whether it’s in the free weight or stationary area. Love the Arsenal equipment and usually the turf area, but it’s gotten too cluttered and I feel some machines need to be taken out to address the lack of space. I also wish the hydromassage beds were in a darker, separate area to allow for a more therapeutic experience, but they definitely help with recovery.

Maple is my current "home" facility, closest to where I live and signed up for my membership. But I checked out the Wehrle location todat and it is pretty nice. Was able to get in a nice push day workout on my first visit. I think some features could maybe use a remodel. The locker rooms, restrooms etc. have kind of an 80s feel to them. But they seem decently maintained otherwise. I used a few weight machines and they all worked fine. I was also able to get ahold of a bench for some exercises which is pretty much impossible at the maple location with how crowded it gets. Seems to have much of the same equipment with regard to machines that Maple does. I did not see any racks for squats/powerlifting. However, as I was leaving I noticed that this location does have a room with turf. So there is a good chance I just missed seeing them and some other pieces of equipment. Would consider visiting again.

It’s the main reason I don’t go there much. They should take a cue from the Catalyst over in Lancaster…they’re volume is perfect.

Not really poor communication. More of a weak owner that falls for an unofficial mask mandate. Your employees let it slide till December 15th. Now you tell me to mask up. After telling Alex to go tell everyone else to mask up, they did. They folded. You didn't do your homework on this "mandate ". I get that it's a private business and I was short of having the police called, I chose to keep a clean record and canceled my membership. Do your homework before people catch on as I know I'm not the only who canceled.

I signed up today, online. I was surprised that it was a contract that I actually signed up for, and didn’t know until I got to the actual gym, and the manager told me. I almost canceled but then I realized it’s not that expensive if I wanted to cancel the contract, so I kept the membership for now. I wanted to at least see if I actually liked the gym instead of being forced into a contract, which is why I preferred the month to month. The manager explained if I did I’d have to pay an extra fee which lead to close to 100$ upfront which was not something I wanted to do. It is a nice gym, very spacious and I joined mainly for yoga classes but the people at the front desk were not very friendly or welcoming. I just didn’t like the vibe I got from the staff, which is why I’m leaving 3 stars.

I love this place from day 1 but they need to change the music. I go there in the afternoon and the music is awful and way to loud.

I am beyond disgusted and feel completely attacked ! I completely suggest a different gym and as for this trainer who should not be working with people as he seems to enjoy confrontation .

Following customers outside the building and threw the gym as they are leaving the facility is uncalled for and this place should be reported for the set up and use of their equipment seeing as the reason we were leaving is because there was no room to workout near the dumbbells and everyone was on top of each other ... this place deserves a call to the health department as far as following covid guidelines and distancing goes

Politely asked for the music to change from rap to something like 92.9 or pop at least 5x, and repeatedly get turned down. My uncle left the gym permanetly because the front desk assosicates were rude about changing the music. I have heard from multiple guests they would like the music changed to anything and they say no especially in the morning. Today, I asked a guy sweeping the floor to change the music he said sure. Goes to the front desk to change the rap music and she literally screams NO, extremely inpolite while i pay 20 a month and come here everyday. Besides the music gym is fine. Please Amy consider this issue.

Facility is great, but they close off way too much space to regular members. If you're not paying for premium services, you lose out on half the space and equipment.

Clean gym, great equipment, and friendly staff! Thank you Kendra for making my visit to the gym and area an excellent experience. The membership cost was well worth the peace of mind knowing that proper sanitary and capacity requirements were being upheld during COVID.

This place is pretty great, with an easy location to get to. The staff are friendly and helpful, and there are a large variety of workout equipment. The higher level membership gets you into classes, too (I have not done these but they look fun).

I think the only issue keeping me from 5 stars, is that a few pieces of equipment are broken/don't work perfectly, but this is the added features (like a TV on the bikes). If I could give 4.5 stars I would give that.

Would give a better review if they actually fixed the equipment that is broken.

I have been there since 2014 and have watched this place decline horribly in cleanliness, especially the showers. 30 % of the cardio equipment is broken, as well as the cable machines. if your looking to do cardio this is not the place. If your looking for just free weights its OK. Anything else you,ll be lucking to find a good working machine. The only thing keeping me at this gym right now is I have a lot of good friends there. Oh and if you have an issue, the manager tells you they will call you back to fix it, but you never hear back from them.

Cramped, crowded, staff is not very friendly and can be downright rude at times. They only seem to be interested in getting your money upfront. Let the buyer beware with any extras such as personal training etc. Have reasonable expectations, because even then you may end up disappointed.

They have a disaster billing service, messed up with my credit card few times with no reason. Old machines. This location is always busy, hard to find a machine. Don’t recommend this whole facility.
