I’ve been a devoted member of Crunch for over 15 years, enjoying the convenience of having a fitness center right next door. Over the years, I’ve appreciated the variety of equipment and the general atmosphere. However, I’m now writing this detailed review in the hope that management will pay attention to two ongoing issues that are really impacting the member experience.
First and foremost is the problem with the shoulder press machine. This is one of the most critical machines for a full upper body workout, and the gym only has one. That means there’s often a line for it even under normal circumstances. Now it’s been out of order for a week, and it could take weeks to fix. This situation has left many of us with no choice but to go elsewhere to maintain our workout routines. I’ve personally had to join another gym farther away, and some of my long-time gym friends have done the same. It’s inconvenient and adds extra cost, which is frustrating for those of us who’ve been loyal members for years.
The obvious solution is to add at least one or two more of these machines so that when one is broken, members aren’t left waiting in line or forced to find another gym. It’s a recurring problem, and it feels like management isn’t paying enough attention to the equipment issues that really matter to regular members.
Secondly, there’s also a longstanding issue with the lack of any good low-back machines. A well-rounded workout includes strengthening the lower back, and I’ve mentioned this need before to management. Unfortunately, that feedback seems to have been overlooked as well. Without proper equipment for the lower back, we can’t do all the exercises we need in one place, which is another reason some of us have been forced to look elsewhere.
In conclusion, I’m giving this gym a one-star review right now because these two issues have become too significant to ignore. If they can add at least one or two more shoulder press machines to prevent these long waits and address the lack of low-back equipment, I’d be more than happy to bring my rating back up to five stars. I hope this detailed feedback helps them understand the importance of these changes to long-term members like myself.

I pay yearly membership and came to this gym only twice before I had to a serious foot surgery (toe surgery). I came in person and asked to freeze my membership for one month. The manager confirmed the freeze and told me I would be able to come in November without any additional payment.
To make sure everything was understood correctly, I called the gym and recorded the conversation, where I asked again:
“So I can come in November without paying, correct?”
And they clearly said yes.
Now that November started, I came to the gym and they refused to let me in, looked me straight in the eyes and denied that any of this ever happened.
This is dishonest, unprofessional, and deeply disrespectful behavior.
This gym has no integrity.

This company is a scam. I mentioned to the manager during sign up that I only reopened to use the sessions left and I wouldn’t be using the membership beyond one month. He said I have to sign up at least for two months- first and last and as long I use within the two months I am okay. Despite that I got billing two months because I didn’t have that discussion in writing or send a written email which was never told me. Stop changing peoples card without consent.

I’ve been a Crunch member for a long time because the atmosphere is great, and the instructors truly care. One standout is Corinne Tate. I’ve taken her classes for years — she’s always been professional, encouraging, and focused on helping us improve safely and effectively. I was in the class that’s been discussed online, and what I saw was Corinne doing what she always does: lead with energy, care, and attention to form. She’s made a real difference for so many of us.

I have been taking Muscle & Hustle with Corinne T since the class was added to the group fitness schedule almost 2 years ago, and I can confidently say that she’s the most dedicated, passionate and inspiring instructor at Crunch. I follow her wherever she teaches!! Her classes are not only physically challenging but also mentally uplifting. Every exercise is tailored with care, and her attention to form, safety, and progress is unmatched.
While social media can sometimes reflect isolated experiences, I believe it’s important to recognize the consistent excellence and support, Corinne T, provides to so many of us. She’s beyond committed to helping Crunch members reach their goals with positive energy and her deep knowledge of fitness makes every one of her classes worthwhile.

I only joined Crunch because of the positive results and motivation I was receiving from one specific instructor, Corinne. Can her workouts be challenging, yes. But if you keep coming back and do the work you will see results and she will continue giving you 1000% of her energy. Not a 100 but 1000%🦾😃

Asked about a daily rate. Not going to pay for a glorified gym, not a health club by any means. Had us sign in to look around…no thanks.

I would argue Crunch is the best intersection of value and cost in New York City. In NYC, you’re somewhat stuck between super cheap at Planet Fitness or super expensive at Equinox or Lifetime. I would argue that Crunch is the absolute perfect sweet spot around $90-$100 a month. While that’s expensive by American standards, that’s great value by NYC standards.
Among Crunch, 54th street is my favorite location. Two close seconds would be Tribeca and Chelsea. It’s such a great vibe. Everyone is super nice at the front desk. I talk to them on a nearly daily basis. Antonio and Julius are super friendly.
Overall, I would argue Crunch is the best decision if you’re a dedicated gym goer and you don’t have a larger financial budget.

This gym is really not good unless you are a man who likes dropping weights in the weight room. The weight room is where they put the elliptical machines that are mostly broken. Even when they try fixing the machines the arms on tyne ellipticals are not even . When you get off it you ferl like your whole body is lopsided.I wish this gym would shut down so something better can open in its place. I joined after covid at a certain rate and every year they raise my membership and when I asked them about it, the manager says too bad. I wish a better gym would open in the area. The locker rooms are crap, I try not to use that room at all! They are very rude and the gym is filthy. This gym is dirty and crap.
Update: they put "new" elliptical and took away the old ones. The new elliptical barely work.level 20 is the same as level 14. They try to pass off old equipment as new. This gym is crap. The gym continues to be crap. None of the ellipticals work. Most people wish the gym would shut down and a better gym would open in the area. This gym should not be allowed to stay open

I worked with Victor over 6 months, and got very definite results - going from not being able to do any pull-ups to doing sets of 10 consistently, and being able to bench my own bodyweight, which was a great milestone. He made the process fun, was engaging and a good communicator, with helpful and clear advice.

I used to love coming to this gym, largely thanks to Victor, whose personal training sessions were exceptional. Since they let him go, the overall vibe has noticeably declined. It’s disappointing to see standards slip so quickly, many members I have spoken with have also highlighted issues with the faulty AC in the weight room, lack of maintenance of equipment which have gone unaddressed despite the MULTIPLE comments on google and yelp. I hope management steps up to restore the level of professionalism and service that members deserve of a Crunch Signature.
management/membership office has experienced frequent turnovers as well and the trainers on the floor seem overworked and as a result not as passionate/driven to help their clients. There seems to be a focus more on sales/selling training sessions and inadequate support provided to trainers by management to help them deliver their best work to the client to achieve their fitness goals.
Prospective members, beware!

Eric the manager refuses to reply me on the email that I complain about free passes
I went to other locations, they said he’s wrong
So I called, he keeps making his excuses, I asked him to reply me through email whatever he was talking to me, first he said he didn’t receive any emails, then he says doesn’t have to reply me anything, because he knows what he’s doing is wrong and he doesn’t want to give me evidences of course
I hung up, he called me back to curse me
I hung up again
What kind of environment is this
He thinks he’s right, he says things that don’t really match reality, he says my guests over the time either tried Crunch before or was not a local
First of all, he doesn’t even know what he says, he just wanna come up with excuses, they didn’t even check my guests on the system, and I went to other locations, they told me it’s wrong

Another day another machine that's going to rip someone's leg off. This gym is a safety nightmare.
Previously: This gym is great because every time you need a 5 or 10 pound plate you get to go on a scavenger hunt halfway across the gym to find one! And don't trip over the larger plates and accessories scattered everywhere!!
Previously: If you email your members that you're going to reopen at noon, you should either reopen at noon or email your members with an updated timeline. mgmt won't give me an update as to when the second floor will ACTUALLY open.

This location has some members that are a little bit...off. There's often a group of 3 guys who are shouting at each other as if it's their personal gym. And today an elderly man kept harassing every person using back machines and asking to use them. He then kicked my arm after I attempted to wipe down my machine! Just a few too many crazies here 😣

The gym is very well kept, and the staff is kind and professional. It was nice to see the operations manager scanning the gym and asking members for feedback who btw seems like a nice kid so surprised to see the attacks. Does get a little crowded after 5 but that’s to be expected traffic is lighter around 1 and I’ve visited at both times. I also saw the cleaning crew working hard so cleanliness is good besides the messy members. Other than that great place to workout .

The place is completely useless after 5:30 pm. There’s no way to do a complete workout because it’s so crowded. In addition, weights are totally disorganized so every day requires a scavenger hunt to find things. Machines are regularly broken…nearly EVERY treadmill on the second floor is broken with one issue or another and it’s been like this for months. Even many of the lockers are broken. It was better under a previous manager. Whoever runs it now has no idea what they’re doing.

It's not a bad gym per se. Maybe even a good gym. But I feel compelled to share the following. Twice in the last four months, my lock was broken, and cash (nothing else) stolen. While the gym is officially "not responsible" for the thefts, in 2025 there is little excuse not to equip the lockers with built-in electronic combination locks.

Another issue:
Gym was supposed to open at 7:00 am this morning. Instead, I was left waiting outside with other gym members into 7:45am when staff member decided to show up to open the gym. Massive fail among so many others at this gym. I've been a member for many years but there have been an increasing number of fails especially over this past year. Very poor management!

It is a good gym, quite organized and with good equipment. But it really bothers me a lot that on many occasions they play with people's time, on several occasions they always open up to 40 minutes later than the time they have planned. An example of today, Thursday, November 28, 2024, they said they would open at 7 am and I was outside for 40 minutes in the rain and cold waiting for them to open and in the end I had to leave. The worst of all is that I took the pre-workout and to my surprise the gym was closed.

Update: Spoke with management and member services reps - told them all the details (AGAIN!).....machines still don't work - no one checks anything or fixes anything. Free weights are everywhere. Review stands....come on Crunch - do something!
Worst Crunch in the city…other locations are great.
* broken equipment never repaired..after multiple reports.
* weights left all over the floor..no one managing or replacing
* management doesn’t care. No proactive actions to check equipment ( 4 of 6 cardio machines broken..only one with a do not use sign).
Staff is great. But the place needs to get it together and fix what’s broken and organize the equipment. Also..stop waiting for problems to be reported..check equipment proactively and stop waiting for your members to do your job and find problems. Get ahead of the game. Come on.
And regarding the below management response; I’ve now spent time talking to your staff and management multiple times, posting details here with solid suggestions to improve. I have no interest in investing more time addressing these issues in email to you. The problems are clear, my suggestions are clear. I don’t think an email can make things clearer. You know what to do.

People are complaining about the recent renovations, but they did give advanced notice (I got multiple emails for weeks leading up to it in addition to signage around the gym) and extended access to other locations in the meantime.
My experiences here have been almost entirely positive. If you’re looking for a straightforward, clean, safe gym, this is all of those things. The cost kept me away for a while but I honestly think it’s worth it just for a reliable and clean location close to home.

Gym closed for over 2 weeks, and has been partially unusable for over 3 weeks so they could re-floor. Owner and Director of Ops refuse to issue refunds for the lost time and are stealing member dues despite the gym being unusable
In email with the Director, he claimed the member agreement allows to gym to close for 2 weeks in the summer for repairs necessary for health and safety.
Well, the gym didn't close in the summer. It closed in the spring. And the gym wasn't closed for any health and safety reasons, they were closed because in order to renew their lease, they had to pad the floors. They are very eager to lie in order to continue to collect and pocket money, while the gym is unusable
The gym is now re-opened while they continue laying down the floors, actually putting the health of their customers at risk with exposed liquid adhesives (the workers wear masks while applying) and new carpets that are off-gassing and giving off massive dust. And the main floor is still mostly unusable as seen in the picture I posted. They moved equipment from other areas into workout spaces while they continue to poison us while the lay down the carpets

As other reviews have said before, they have been conducting "renovations" since the beginning of June and failed to notify members ahead of time, which of course was premeditated in order to avoid any memberships being frozen of cancelled ahead of construction. The only way of finding out was to show up to majority of the club closed off.
In the interim they have been allowing single club members to use all other locations. However, they have not been honoring credits to all club memberships that pay significantly more each month for the same benefit.
The "upgrades" made so far have been cheap shortcuts that have actually made things worse. They put in flooring that seems unstable and not fit for the heavy equipment and cardio areas, to the point where the machines wobble with every movement. No significant upgrades have been made to the old and worn equipment itself.
Do not waste your money here and go join TMPL instead. You will be paying a bit more but for much better quality, and at least they take action when members have completely fair and practical requests involving credits.

Decent gym with very friendly staff.
Be aware the free trial is only available for people with a state ID (I don't think there's any information about it on the website). A day pass is $35 (plus tax) which feels really steep. I mean I get they want people to get memberships, but when if you're travelling and want a gym to visit once or twice I'm not sure it's the cheapest option.
There are two good squat racks with safeties and everything, connected to a deadlift platform, plus two of these curved non-vertical racks which I personally detest but a lot of people use them and don't mind, so in total there's 4 places where you can do squats, presses etc. Definitely not bad. Deadlift platforms are a bit beaten up, but aren't terrible. Definitely too few dumbbells, they end at 60 or 70 lbs and have 5 lbs intervals. Also, what's the deal with the bumper plate colours? 45s are red, 35s blue and so on lol.
The rest of the equipment looked fine, I only used free weights. I don't think there was a lifting belt, deadlift straps or chalk available, so you have to carry this stuff for yourself. Also don't know if they allow chalk at all.
Didn't work out with a coach but was around a few people having personal training done and the coaches seemed very friendly and encouraging. Also one of the coaches was doing his own session next to me and he squatted 400 lbs for 3 or 4 reps with very respectable depth, which to me signals it's a legit gym. ;)

I have the membership where I can go to any crunch location and I decided to come here for leg day at around 9:30 pm. The membership is not cheap so it was to my surprise that when I went to the area with the racks and presses and stuff, the plates were everywhere and machines were fully loaded with 45s with nobody on them, normally I wouldn’t care very much but for the price of this membership, things should be much more organized and looked after.

Pretty good gym overall.
The Good:
* Decent amount of equipment, for both cardio and weight training
* Friendly staff
* Generally pretty clean
The Bad:
* Generally seems like there aren't enough smaller barbell plates, which are needed when doing any kind of progressive overload on barbell exercises. It can really be a pain to scrounge around for 5s and 2.5s. Also generally the weights tend to be all over the place, a bit more of an effort to keep things organized would also help.
* Could probably use another power rack/associated deadlift area - there's only 2 as far as I can tell which can be pretty limiting if you want to deadlift or do barbell rows
These were the two things that made me consider trying out other gyms, but generally this Crunch location has been pretty good value so I would recommend it

This review is specifically for this Crunch’s personal trainer David B. David is very experienced and in every session, he would teach exercises, tailoring to the appropriate difficulty and helping correct my form. Afterwards, David would help write up the exercises that I could use in my own workouts.
After multiple sessions, I had multiple workout routines from David with accompanying videos for the proper form. David helped me so much with my technique and how to mentally connect with the muscle groups I wanted to target during each exercise. I moved out of the area but otherwise, I would continue working with him. Highly recommend David for personal training!

The gym is made up of 3 floors, with the middle floor dedicated to weights and some cross fit style equipment and the top floor dedicated to cardio, a studio and a stretching area.
The cardio equipment is pretty dated and could do with an update… you know the equipment is old when there’s connectivity to an iPod!

This is my second favorite crunch location in NYC thus far. They have a good amount of squat racks, smith machine, and deadlift platform. You do have to ascend 3 flights of stairs to the locker room which is always rough after leg day. BUT this Crunch is not in a basement which I love (natural light :)). It does get busy, however, and there is no sauna but instead a steam room.

My review is specifically about the personal training session I had with Sara at this location. If I could give her 6 stars, I would! During my session, Sara helped push me out of my comfort zone and learn new exercises so I could challenge myself. I also appreciated her motivational, friendly, and attentive demeanor.
I was super happy with the experience and will definitely be back when I can to book another session with Sara!

3 level gym with lots of weights, squat racks, cardio machines, and regular machines. Gym can get really busy so be prepared. Good classes. Trainers are nice and helpful. Clean locker rooms with straighteners, hair dryers, and shower essentials in the women’s locker room. Fairly expensive but I would say it’s worth it.

Great gym, huge variety of machines and weights (even for body builders), and is open till 11. A lot of good spots for hot selfies. And John, the manager, goes out of his way to provide exceptional personal customer service!

This gym has been a great experience for me. They offer innovative classes for a variety of levels. The staff is exceptional and courteous. They all get to know you. I recently lost a personal item in a class and John R. held it for me in the office so it would not get lost. Appreciate the attention.

The geographic location is great and the staff are friendly, machines are new. The stretch area could benefit from new equipment (particularly MATS! and medicine balls). My biggest qualm
with this location is the women’s restrooms. At the price point, the bathroom stalls should actually shut and the showers shouldn’t smell aggressively of mold. The grout in the showers is yucky but I wouldn’t mind it if it didn’t have a foul smell.

This review is for Nora’s bliss yoga class. I have attended yoga classes at this location with all the instructors and my personal favorite is Nora! She’s super nice, encouraging and gives positive feedback throughout the class, and helps correct your form (if you would like)! Please add another class for Nora - since she only teaches class at this location on Monday’s :(

The gym is cool, great equipment. The only con is some of the trainers are loud mouths. Like to make comments about members under their breath while people are walking away.
A good trainer has no need for a "tough guy" attitude, or inflated ego. Outside of that great place to train while in NY.

On July 20th at 3 PM, I was verbally attacked and disrespected by this member in the photo for no good reason. He wanted me to leave a machine that I had just started using. I reported him and I hoped Crunch would enforce its policies and make it right by me taking the appropriate measures to avoid his violent behaviour from happening again. It was a stressful situation. A gym is not a place for violence and people aggressively yelling cursing at anyone. Unfortunately, Crunch did nothing at all.
Update: it took me a while, but I decided to cancel my membership. Crunch comments on reviews pretending they are going to make things right, but no one answers the email address "CrunchMS@crunch com". Their reply is just for show.
I do NOT recommend Crunch.

A perfect example of lack of re investment. Rarely is there hot water for showers in the mens locker room. The turf’s equipment is lacking and continues to get worse. 1 medicine ball? No bands? Ripped mats, old bent foam rollers. Trainers treat the gym how it looks- Poorly. Also no towels in the mens locker room you have to go to the gym floor to get them to shower. Makes no sense. If you want a nice gym experience join equinox.
