I’m in the area for a week and wont be at my usual location. I came in too see how I can workout for a few days. Saw Max upon arrival and he made the process very smooth. Will actually think of becoming a full time member at this location due to the seamless transition. Max made it easy and i would recommend you see him at anytime you can possible. Again see Max when you come

Canceling a membership here is ridiculously difficult. There’s no online option—you’re forced to go in person and fill out paperwork. Of course, the sales team never bothers to explain this rule when they sign you up. Feels intentionally misleading.

Crunch Bowery has been an incredible experience from the start. The facilities are clean, the energy is great, and the variety of equipment and classes welcomes all levels of fitness. But what really stood out to me was the community, management, and the team.

I was looking for a gym in the area after moving, and on my first day, long-time member Tommy introduced himself with a smile, and later connected me to the staff. Christian, the General Manager, went above and beyond to help me get set up with a membership that worked for my housing situation. That level of care and flexibility isn’t something you find everywhere, and it made me feel truly valued as a member. Then there's Janet, who undoubtedly contributes to the heart and soul of the gym and is often the first face you see. She's direct, helpful, and sure to take care of you from the moment you walk through the doors.

Between the welcoming staff, the supportive community, and leadership that genuinely looks out for its members, I couldn’t recommend Crunch Bowery enough. This gym is a community, and it's a pleasure to be a part of it.

The guy at the front desk was extremely rude and nasty. I have all crunch and was looking to get a guest pass for my girlfriend. Upon requesting a guest pass he lied about policy (that I had previously contacted crunch about) in order to make us pay $25. As I went to pay with my credit card it declined as he selected debit instead of credit. He made a sly comment saying “you look like your stressing bro” and laughed as if it was my fault it declined. All in front of my girlfriend as a failed attempt to embarrass me. I didnt catch his name but he had straight black hair in a side part and this was at 8:30 pm on a Friday.

short: worst of the Crunch locations I have attended. If it were my home gym, I'd look for another gym instead

long: a dance friend of mine recommended that I go to the dance classes at this location on Wednesdays & Thursdays. I had been paying the cancelation fees since last week because I've been eating too much from holiday lunches. I really didn't want to pay a fourth cancelation fee on Thursday, so I went. The locker room is very cramped with odd angles. The bathroom products are watered down. I couldn't believe it at first, so I went back later on, and the lotion squirts out like water. I was willing to overlook all of that, except the lotion. My biggest disappointment was the class studio itself and more so the dance instructor. The class studio is oddly shaped, a long, narrow stretch filled with big columns in between. It's difficult to get a good view of the instructor. In addition to that, she wasn't using the microphone, which made it even more crucial to have a good line of sight. Then I noticed she was recording the class with her phone angled up on the floor. I don't recall being notified that the classes are recorded. I did not consent to that invasion of privacy. I would not even have signed up for the class if that was disclosed on the class description of the app. I strongly do not recommend this Crunch gym location: watered-down bathroom products and no disclosure that class attendees are recorded.

For anyone looking for great classes at Crunch I recommend the following:
- Michael A - Chelsea & Tribeca
- Mitchell - 54th

Recently moved out to nyc from FL and was thinking about just gym shopping until I found the right one. Decided to try Crunch Bowery first, as a friend had recommended it and got a tour from Christian who did an amazing job. After touring the gym I knew it was right for me. Great space for the city, has everything I need and a great price discounted as I am a nurse! Excited to workout here.

I’ve been to a lot of gyms, but the level of care and energy that Bryan brings as the manager truly stands out. He’s always welcoming, knows members by name, and genuinely goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels supported—whether it’s helping with equipment questions or just bringing great vibes to the space. It’s clear he takes pride in the gym and its community. Huge shoutout to Bryan for making this place feel like more than just a gym!

I’d rate this gym a 0 if I could. We had 3 day guest passes and we were denied from using them because we were students from a local university. When we asked why, the manager said that this rule fell under “certain restrictions” mentioned in the email. When we checked the email, there was absolutely no mention of this rule and he pretty much admitted he made it up and his say was final. What a clown

I booked time through ClassPass and not only would they not let me in because I was 10 minutes late, they also reported that I missed it and I was charged extra. I had booked 2 hours of gym time, got charged for 4, and they prevented me from using any.

The front desk was rude about it. The gym was basically empty. No other gym on ClassPass works like this.

Avoid this gym at all costs—unethical billing and zero accountability.

I was charged over $500 in membership fees without my consent, and Crunch has refused to issue a refund despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue directly with their staff and customer service. The responses I received were dismissive, unhelpful, and at times completely unprofessional. I filled out the online form to cancel my membership in Nov 2024 and was charged until April 2025 due them claiming I needed to call or come in to cancel a membership. Its 2025 — why cant we use the online form to accept cancelations?

What makes this worse is the complete lack of ownership or empathy. It’s one thing to make a billing mistake—it's another to refuse to make it right, especially when it’s clearly their error. I followed every step they asked to cancel, and yet I’m still out hundreds of dollars with nothing to show for it.

If you’re thinking about signing up—don’t. You’ll be dealing with a business that treats its members like numbers, not people, and has no interest in fair or transparent practices.

Plenty of other gyms out there. Pick one that respects its customers and doesn’t run shady billing practices.

If you don’t want to give away a 3-day pass trial, then don’t waste people’s time. I tried to get a feel of this gym yesterday, but yet they wanted to have me sit down at the back and get things ready? Get ready for what exactly? Despite the confusion and ambiguity, I sat down. But I also had my service dog with me, and when I asked if I could work out and try the gym the same day, since I was willing to sit and get ready for some ambiguous act, I was told no. That goes against state and federal law. A waste of my time, energy, and a big let down for a simple gym pass.

Anyone thinking of becoming a member here needs to see CHRISTIAN immediately! Gyms are sales centers. You will get all kinds of numbers thrown at you when you are looking to get a gym membership. Christian at Crunch Bowery is transparent, helpful, and will set you up with the lowest possible rate that fits your needs. You will not feel “sold” when you deal with him. Incredibly helpful guy. In addition, the facility is great for what you pay. Don’t expect hot towels & steam/sauna… it’s not Equinox. This is a proper, pop in-pop-out gym with some bells and whistles like towels, showers, secure locker rooms, new equipment & attentive staff. If you live or work in the area I highly recommend checking this place out.

The billing is suss. Called to cancel. They make you come in in person. It’s December 17th they are charging me an additional month and making it so my membership goes through February of next year. This gym has consistently smelled like crap for well over a month now and it smells like it’s coming the the AC. How this issue has not been addressed is beyond me. No one re racks their weights nor wipes down their machines when they finish. Then there are some people who have never heard of deodorant. For a gym that charges $120 a month, unless you live on the same block/very, VERY close to this gym I’d give it a hard pass. The staff are friendly and I have no issues with them. It’s mostly the gym patrons that suck/the horrid smell which can completely ruin a workout.

Women in the East Village and LES area of Manhattan please be aware, and I urge you to look at other gyms in the area instead of joining crunch.

This past January I had a disappointing and scary experience at Crunch Fitness at their Bowery location. During a group fitness class another member taking the class exhibited extremely inappropriate behavior towards me. This behavior clearly violated crunch’s code of conduct. There is another review that mentions Alexandria, the current Operations Manager of this location, and she was not helpful or sensitive to my situation at all. The gym is supposed to be a safe and comfortable space for all members, and the staff at crunch failed in making me feel space at this location.

I book gym time here on ClassPass sometimes when I’m visiting town. They generally only have a few spots open per day, and they are only off-peat slots. Even then, the gym is usually very busy.

In comparison to Crunch Union Square, this one has a much bigger weights area with a lot more cable machines and dumbbells but not nearly enough squat racks or places to deadlift.

As a woman lifter I also find the culture here a lot more bro-ey. Guys tend to hang around the popular equipment for a long time and chat with each other whereas at USQ people finish their set and leave.

I had the worst experience with the gym management, specifically Alexandria. Initially I loved the gym, appreciated the classes, however, the gym management completely failed to communicate clearly and respectfully with me. I had an injury which prevented me from exercising. So I asked to freeze my membership. I was told that I can’t do it in the middle of the month and will have to freeze only starting the next month. Ok, I did it, also paid the fee of 25 dollars for it. Then in the end of October I had another injury (yes I am not lucky) and literally was late by a day to ask to prolongate the freeze for the month of November. So I came, apologised for the inconvenience, showed the paper from the doctor that I had an injured leg and asked to prolongate the freeze for November. That was not possible according to Alexandria but she could freeze the month of December for me. Well, by that time I hoped to be in better shape to be able to exercise. Obviously the gym didn’t care about that. I called and asked repeatedly to freeze November for me. After a week of me running after them, calling and sending emails, finally it was authorised. By that time I was already exhausted and asked my bank to cancel the charge. So now when it is the month of December and I could come back as a client I was told at first that I could reinstate my membership starting December and just pay 25 dollars for the allegedly frozen November. After agreeing to this I find out the next day that actually not - I have to pay the full price for November and December. And when I ask for the explanation I receive it two days later, it is literally “you just have to pay this”. I can’t get on the phone Alexandria as she is busy doing inventory or she is out of the office. Basically it is exhausting dealing with them. Even if you die they ll continue charging you, they literally don’t care. Worst client service in my life. Absolutely not flexible, not client oriented, absent management.

They have a good selection of both cardio and weightlifting equipment.
Some important weightlifting equipment you’ll find:
- 3 squat racks (1 has a deadlift platform combo)
- 1 deadlift platform
- 3 bench presses, other chest machines,
- 2 additional barbells
- basic dumbbells, cable machines (you’ll find an additional one by the cardio equipment)
- 1 leg press
- kettlebells, and other basic equipment.

What you will NOT find as of this date:
- E-Z bars. Would be nice to have as it provides better support for your wrists, but not a deal-breaker for me.
- Hip thrust machines or benches with proper/comfortable height for them. I even struggle to find a space where to do them. It’s nice that they have extra barbells, but just not enough space to even use them.

Overall it’s a nice and clean gym. It will get very busy 5-7pm, but even then it’s not as crowded as other gyms in the area.

It’s great! I just miss the old building, it was a MASSIVE space and you had plenty of it. This spot is convenient but FAR smaller. Plus I just wish it wasn’t always a “little busy”. Sure I could get up at 4am everyday and avoid the people completely by showing up at 5.... but I’m only human. If it wasn’t for the consistent amount of people I would’ve given them 5/5, otherwise they are clean, helpful and they have a small downtime window between 5am-7am. 😉

My personal trainer, Cynthia is an excellent trainer!  She is extremely knowledgeable about health and fitness and is very personable and super fun to workout with.  I highly recommend training with Cynthia if you want to get inspired and get into a great workout regime that is fun and effective.  Thank you, Cynthia!

So gyms in Manhattan are really hit or miss and, unfortunately, you do NOT usually get what you pay for. I tried this place out back in January. I was not a fan. While it is large, it’s certainly not in charge, unless we’re talking about your wallet.
A lot of the equipment seemed outdated. Even the weights and benches for free weights seemed old. And I’m usually not very picky when it comes to gyms. Usually this would be whatever but the rates they charge are pretty high for what you get. Lots of gyms in the area. I’d recommend checking out another.

Please disregard this review if they have bought/updated their facilities since I tried it out.

Be careful if you use this gym using Classpass credits - incredibly rude front desk staff seem to take pleasure in enforcing absurdist policies. (Refusing access to an empty gym because arrived a few minutes past the beginning of a 2 hour workout window).

Overcrowded. Really weird small towels. Locker room is small. Not a great option for gym goers. Go here for classes or if youre a beginner and dont mind overpaying for manhattan prices

Rudy and Miguel are the rudest most crass set of human beings have ever
had the misfortune of knowing. How do you make someone's life a living hell for no reason. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING. I guess this is the new route Crunch Fitness has decided to embark on, hiring and letting rude employees deny class passes and degrade paying member on top of it. SAD!!

This location had great facilities, however after they closed the spin room and canceled the best classes with most popular instructors this location unfortunately does not offer great workouts anymore ! Pity as it was my favorite crunch club

I have monthly membership at crunch and usually work out in Bushwick. But when I came to Bowery location, I was told I have to pay extra for this location. Information which was initially never told me. So I wasted my time and energy. Very dissatisfied.

The personal trainers are top notch. Been training with Daeze Merrini for over a year and she is wonderful. She pushes you but you leave feeling very accomplished and invigorated. She is a true asset and positive force to her profession. I highly recommend her.

Worst gym ever! I joined this gym over a year ago while spending the summer in NYC and was very excited to continue using this franchise back home, they talked me into paying for 10 sessions with a personal trainer with the promise that I was going to be able to use them at the location back home (MA) since I only had time to use 2 sessions in NYC. Once I got to the new gym the refused to let me use the sessions there, after that I contacted the manager (and everyone else I knew at this location) to try to solve this issue, and they keep saying they were going to solve it but never did. After a year of trying to find a solution I' still waiting to hear back from them and never got my money back. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone

I have been a member for 4 months. I had the most unpleasant experience with one of the trainers who works there. He made me feel very very *uncomfortable* and tried to *shame* me in front of his colleagues (other male trainers). If you are a woman, please be careful! I have already made a complaint to management and will be sending my report to the manage of this location.

Good location, the gym is nice but it is one of the few Crunch in the city without sauna. Also, the people at the reception can be a bit weird. YMMV

Definitely one of the better Crunch locations in the city, but at times can be way too crowded, and equipment often just disappears from day to day (foam rollers mostly). Training was great, but the cost of the gym for what you get doesn't quite add up. There are cheaper gyms that offer way more.

Great selection of classes, low corporate membership rate, well maintained facilities, bliss spa products. Too many personal trainers milling about and people like to work out in the middle of walkways, but overall great especially for the price. Spin studio has better bikes than soulcycle and flywheel, with disco ball and plasma a showing stats. TRX, yoga studios are modern with good sound and lighting. Not too much noise bleed from gym to studios.

Came here with a day pass to join the antigravity yoga class and loved it. The staff and instructor were very helpful. There are tons of classes to chose from and plenty of equipment use. I would highly consider joining this gym, but with other high-end competitors like Equinox, it's a tough choice.

A very kept and clean workout facility. There are plenty of towels, and enough open space to do your thing. There are usually lockers available, even at peak hours.
