Take a look at your trainer and how they treat people body shaming others. I would not be trained by her when she suppose to help and support people on weightloss journey. This is trainer danielle edwards at crunch fitness in fairmount.

This morning for a least the fourth time since joining this gym no one showed up on a Sunday morning to open until 7:45. This is unacceptable and shouldn’t happen again. I saw many people just leave and not get to work out. Schedule two people to open in case one doesn’t show up.

Crunch Fitness has an amazing staff. My trainer, Carl, has extensive knowledge enabling him to pinpoint areas that need strengthening or stretching exercises to address discomfort I may have in certain areas.

I've been training with Ryan Bumpus for the past few months and he is amazing! He is always on time, organized, puts together awesome workouts and pushes me to really challenge myself. I am definitely getting stronger every week and I actually look forward to coming to the gym. l I highly recommend him!

Crunch Fairmont cardio equipment is in terrible condition. They are not addressing the issue after repeated emails. Five of the 15 treadmills and an elliptical have been out of order for over two months now. No attempt has been made to work on them. One of the stair climbers has been out for three months. All of the equipment is the same as it was when crunch took over from Aspen many years ago. Many of them simply need to be replaced. They can’t cry poverty as the gym is always packed. They are being completely irresponsible and unresponsive in their obligation to their patrons. I would 100% move to another gym. However, I have made many friends there and don’t want to leave them. Together we suffer. Do not join to begin with!

I am a member of Crunch and I really enjoy the employees and environment at this gym. However, my biggest pet peeve is that many of their machines have been down for months—especially the treadmills and stair masters. It is unacceptable that paying members cannot access machines for that duration. Please fix this issue.

Most of the gym is overcrowded and dedicated to weight lifting with no good dedicated stretching section etc. They changed our couples memberships to something completely different and I was put under a “new yearly contract” and there is no email, nothing to explain. It’s not even listed on the Crunch app! Most recently they added a $2 “convenience fee” to everyone’s monthly fees without telling anyone and they don’t advertise it. If you want shady this is it!

Nicole L.’s sunday zumba class was 100% the reason I got a membership to begin! A fun way to move and exercise on top of a normal gym routine with other groovin members. Her moves and the energy she brings at 10am is unparalleled! Antonio’s spin class on Saturdays also rocked!

I Was here when the facility was Aspen. I have a martial arts background and love that they have heavy bags. My only gripe is that the locker room/bathroom area could be a bit more cleanly. Not that it’s terribly dirty or anything but it could be a notch better, considering that people shower/change in these areas. I’m am very critical when it comes to the level of cleanliness in bathrooms everywhere. That would be my only tip to reach a 5 star rating in the future. I enjoy the overall environment and culture within the faculty. Overall positive experience.

Pros: Large variety of equipment, opportunities for classes and trainers. Dumbbells reach 120 lbs in 2.5-5 lbs increments. Olympic weights and platforms to perform deadlifts, jerks, etc. Ample cardio machines, sled and turf, battle ropes, kettlebells. Daycare for children (not sure about the specifics). Sauna (never used). Showers and lockers available. Cleanliness overall is average. Options to buy a few different drinks at the front.
Cons: during peak hours it is extremely busy and crowded. You can still use machines and weights, but you may have them stolen from under your nose. There seems to be enough cardio equipment. The weight machines and cable towers don't appear to be inspected daily & weekly as they should. This is evidenced by broken parts on some of machines, torn handle grips, frayed cable attachments and resistance bands (separate). Instead, the gym depends on users to self report equipment issues using a QR code posted on the machine. While his may be useful in some cases, in general, I don't see this as being adequate for several reasons. The average user may or may not know what part of the machine is compromised before it's too compromised and possibly leading to an injury. Also, in general, the clientele do not seem to be interested in the integrity of the gym or the equipment. This is evidence plates being found all over the floor and not re-racked on a plate tree, or left on the machine. I've never seen a staff member at this location encourage clients to re-rack their weights/dumbbells. Not only does it look sloppy, but it could lead to injuries by tripping over stray plates and dumbbells. It's just annoying to have to unload every machine you visit.
Overall, I'd say this gym provides more than adequate resources to get fit or maintain your fitness level. This gym has several resources that other commercial gyms may not offer such as daycare and classes. What's more, a seasoned lifter may find this gym to be in disarray with plates and dumbbells laying on the floor, or still on the machine after use. The staff does not hold the user accountable for maintaining a neat workout space.

Have been attending Crunch’s fairmount location for roughly a year and a half and have been very happy with my experience there. The staff as a whole is very friendly and welcoming, and Marko has been a fantastic personal trainer. There is also a great variety of available equipment to suit everyone’s needs. Crunch fairmount is all around a great environment to work on one’s personal fitness and I highly recommend it!

This gym is always active. It used to be called Aspen gym. When it was Aspen, Vinnie who used to be the assistant manager, used to take my pictures and post them on their Facebook page. He moved on to a local roofing company, but I saw him the other day. And he was looking happy as ever. When they transitioned to Crunch. I stepped away from the gym for a bit. When I returned I found young Malek. An assistant manager with just as much fire and pep that young Vinnie had. A lot of the Aspen family remained...with some new beautiful and bright faces as well. Some left, I see them in the community and we talk and they are doing well at other gyms.
However, this gym is a part of a much larger community, and believe it or not. Their influence spans the globe.
And if you come in during the morning shift, Mackenzie is always there to greet you with a smile and a laugh!!!
Stay strong Crunch family!!!

My husband and I love working out at Crunch in Fairmount. Carl is an amazing personal trainer. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to fitness and diet, and he took the time to really understand what our training goals were. If you need someone to help you learn how to use various machines, cables, and free weights with correct form, he’s the guy. Every session feels like it was tailored to our specific needs and capabilities, and as a result our confidence with lifting has increased significantly. I highly recommend working with him!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve been a member of this location for 13 years even before it turned over into Crunch Fitness. Although I do love most of the changes that came with the new facility, I believe we are in need of some new equipment. A lot of it stayed from Aspen but the machines are definitely tired. Some of the cardio equipment needs replacing and I would also like to see another Smith machine added as well as a lay-down hamstring curl machine. There are a lot of other fitness places to try out but I’m hoping for some improvements here at Crunch Fairmount. I’d like to stay loyal, so help us out please.

Buyer beware:! I bought the equivalent of a " gold" membership near Christmas time as a surprise for my son. I was told EXPLICITLY at the time of purchase that I could cancel at ANYTIME for ANY reason. A year and a half later, I went in person to cancel this membership as my son is medically unable to use it, and the Manager gave me a hard time saying I could not cancel my own membership that is deducted out of my personal own bank account.... That only my son could cancel. I explained that is impossible... Due to his condition. But also that I am the one who signed for this membership, and I am the one paying it!! Do not fall for this consumer scam
.and I pay for the entire membership. He still gave me hassle.

I attempted to cancel my subscription by visiting the gym, only to be informed that cancellations must be done over the phone. However, the provided phone line was constantly busy. Four months later, I received a call stating that my payment had not gone through—unsurprising, as I had intended to cancel my membership months ago.
The customer service experience has been extremely frustrating, with hidden fees that were never disclosed at the time of signup. Canceling a membership I no longer use should not be this difficult.

Although the gym is beautiful and I enjoyed my membership while I was there - trying to cancel my membership has been hell. I canceled my membership on November 1 2024 and have been charged for December and January mistakenly. Every person I talk to keeps telling me that my account is canceled and my membership is canceled, but then the next month comes around and I’m charged again! Super frustrating when I have to call multiple times and multiple different numbers the main line and my home location office to just get this squared away. Still haven’t got refunded.

**5-Star Review for Crunch Gym in Fairmount, NY**
I can't say enough good things about Crunch Gym in Fairmount! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff who made me feel right at home. The atmosphere is welcoming and inclusive, perfect for anyone, regardless of their fitness level.
The variety of classes offered is truly impressive! Whether you're into high-intensity workouts or prefer something more low-key, there's something for everyone. I've tried several classes, and each one has been engaging and motivating. The trainers are not only experienced but also genuinely care about helping you reach your fitness goals. They offer personalized tips and encouragement, making every session enjoyable and effective.
Overall, Crunch Gym is a fantastic place to work out. The combination of excellent classes, skilled trainers, and a supportive community makes it a top-notch gym. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their fitness journey!

*HIDDEN CHARGES*
Here is the thing. They tell you one thing when they are signing you up, things like there is ONE ANUAL FEE, which only makes sense that you pay one a year. Then three months after you sign up you get another anual fee. Which they leave out when they try and get you to sign up. Actually, they lie for lack of a better term, and tell you it’s one fee. So make sure you are actually reading their 6 page contract before you actually sign, or else you will end up with random hundred dollar charges and when you call to figure out why, they hit you with you’re good for the rest of the year then continue to charge you monthly. It’s very confusing and more expensive than they lead you to believe. 🤷🏽♀️ Just make sure you’re reading what you’re actually signing up for because the people at the desk, even signing up online, they make it seem cheaper than your actually getting it for.

The now manager Andre was a buddy of mine from planet fitness then I started going to crunch as a guest then me and him talked and then I decided to get my own membership. At no point did he tell me there was a $70 annual fee because I wouldn’t have done it. I talked to him about it and he basically blamed me and said he told me but I probably didn’t hear it and was just eager to workout which is 100% false. He was eager to get a sign up and that’s what happened. I was not properly informed of the policy and he blamed me not reading the electronic signature stuff when I just took his word for everything. All he said was if I sign up for the yearly the monthly payment would be $11-$12. Never once mentioned $70. This review is for future people that sign up just in case they don’t mention the $70 annual fee just to get a quick sign up.

Aspen was wayyyy better. They have now replaced them all with crunch and while Fairmount is the better of the 3 locations it's still set up weird. It's like they put the running machines right in front of dudes doing arms on purpose so your bum is right at their face level 2 feet behind you. There's nowhere to get privacy and the spaces there is somewhat privacy they have mirrors lining the walls. It's very packed in. People hog machines. And for the same price I used to pay for Aspen I'm not allowed to have any guests. Not to mention canceling with them for even a month to month subscription is "complicated and a pain in the butt" according to staff there. Overall disappointed.

The gym itself has plenty of equipment and is almost always available BUT the music is way too repetitive and the cancellation process is difficult and extremely sketchy. The crunch website claims that you can call them at any business hour which is quite wrong, as many times we've been greeted with the automatic voice assistant saying to call back during normal business hours or "the call could not be completed". Upon cancelling the membership in AUGUST, my fianceé and I have received two additional membership payments. One for September and one for October. My fianceé called the local crunch today and the manager had told her that the only interactions they have on file were when we signed up and that we called today, and no note on the cancellation from August. This chain is quite shady, given that when we had cancelled there was no paper trail to follow. Therefore, we have no grounds to stand on for a refund for the months we have NOT BEEN ATTENDING. For the sake of your sanity and well-being, please, go anywhere else but this money-driven chain.
Note: we had read reviews about the membership issues prior to joining but decided to give crunch the good 'ole college try. Sadly, we were disappointed to find that the reviews were true. Save your money for Central Rock or equivalent that actually cares...

Terrible Experience - Feels Like a Scam!
I requested to cancel my Crunch Fitness membership on July 18, 2024, and here we are, September 4, 2024, and they are STILL trying to charge me. When I initially requested the cancellation, I was told it could take up to 1 month—it has now been 1.5 months, and my membership is still not canceled. This feels like a complete scam.
I haven’t stepped foot in this gym since my cancellation request, and I’m not going to pay for a service I’m no longer using. The lack of professionalism and disregard for customer service is shocking. Crunch Fitness, refund my money and stop these fraudulent charges!

GOOD LUCK canceling your membership! Employees repeatedly give incorrect information (that you will have to pay for). After you point out the incorrect information that was given to you by their own employees you are then given an attitude. No accountability and extremely poor customer service skills. Be prepared to spend hours of your time on the phone or going down in person to correct them on their mistakes. They like to update and change their policies often so even when you recite information they gave you a few months ago , that information is already invalid. They don’t keep you well informed either…..like when they randomly increased my monthly price when they switched over from Aspen to Crunch. Some kind of notification would've been nice but they have no transparency. This place is not worth your time and frustration. I get the feeling the owner only cares about the money and has no real interest in being a reputable business. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Was transferred from aspen liverpool to crunch Fairmount. Tried to cancel. Filled out the google form needed to cancel. Got an email response saying i gave a different email than the one i must have signed up with 18 years ago. I sent enail response with another possible email i might have used, as well as stating that if i didnt hear back, i assumed the cancellation was all set. Never heard back. Still getting charges on credit card 3 months later. I called Fairmount again, and am getting the run around, false numbers to call, and rude manager. I have contacted my credit card company, BBB, as well as a representative ready to take action if this is not resolved soon. Very shady business practices...
I am adding this after seeing a response on this review. You are telling me to email the fairmount manager directly. I did that about 4 days ago. Included all my correspondence with member services, and I sent that email to member services as well. (I have to email because the number for member services is not a working number). Still, getting no response from Andre or anyone except whoever responded to this review. Not from fairmount or member services. You have to know this is shady....so obvious...

This is a terrible gym because when I moved to another state and asked to cancel my subscription because I didn't have a year contract they still did nothing to help me and still withdraw the funds. And I have an official appeal with which I will go to court and file an application for this press. Get ready guys

Crunch is a good gym with great equipment but if you are ever looking to cancel your membership plan on waiting at least a month! You can no longer cancel at the front desk it is all done through a third party. I have been actively trying to cancel my membership since July 1st and have been referred emails and phone numbers and there is still no progress being made!!!

Check your bill! If you were an Aspen member, you will get charged about $85 dollars suddenly. I did not give consent, nor was I informed about this change! Happened over night. Pure GREED and textbook consumer fraud. Stay far away from this facility.

UPDATE: 2024
Very happy with this facility. Up-to-date exercise equipment and classes to cover all training programs. Certified personal trainers are available at an extra cost. Recommended if you are a new gym member or have specific goals. Other features include Kids Crunch Babysitting offered at many locations. Showers and saunas in locker rooms. Lockers are narrow but adequate. Tanning booths available. Ample parking. Access to great recipes for healthy eating to compliment a healthy workout. Current memberships start at $9.99/mo with three types of memberships designed to fit everyone’s goals and needs: Base, Peak and Peak Results. Pattie, at the front desk in the mornings, is very knowledgeable and answered any questions I had. Club has always been clean and maintained on my visits. Photo shows my continued results with this facility.

We've been trying to cancel our membership for the last 3 months. Each month, we've gone through the process to cancel and receive confirmation each time, but we're still being charged. We called the gym today, and a girl answered who was very rude and refused to help us. After we got no help from the actual gym that charges us, we called corporate, and their number just keeps disconnecting. It shouldn't be this hard to cancel a membership, ever. My husband and I will never work out at Crunch. We're beyond frustrated. I'm not a complainer by any means, but this continuous issue of them still charging us is really out of hand.

Stear clear of this place! It is not the same since they changed from ASPEN. To start, they never told me their rates were increasing when they changed ownership. I was automatically charged more a month. Then, I was charged almost $100 even though I canceled my membership before it was due. They only allow you to speak to the manager- who is no help at all. You have to go through a process when you want to cancel and if you don't time it perfectly they charged you. Very disappointed in their customer service.

I am new to the area and I had been out of the gym life for a few years due to ‘life’ happening. I joined Crunch in Fairmount, NY a couple months ago and I was so inspired by the people, programs and facilities that I immediately signed up for training with Andre. He has taught me how to properly use the machines, which muscles they target and pushes me to be my best. Not once has he made me feel inferior and as a bonus he’s just a super nice person. I highly recommend Andre and Crunch.

Training with Andre at Crunch has been the greatest investment I have made so far this year. He is knowledgeable in all areas of fitness and nutrition. When I went to the gym I would stick to cardio and now I have the knowledge and confidence to workout in the weights section. After 2 months I can see a difference in my body and look forward to our next set of personal sessions to take me to my next level of fitness. If you want results book Andre, you won’t regret it! 🏋🏽♀️💪🏽💪🏽

Have been a member of Aspen for years. Love all the updates that Crunch has made. Reconfigured space, added equipment, everything looks great. I generally attend the classes offered, which are many and varied. All the instructors are great especially Nikki and Cindy-- thank you! Staff is friendly and helpful- always receive a smile and hello and a "have a good day" walking out the door. I have met some really nice people...developed alot of friendships there. Everyone welcome, young, old and new! Try it out, you won't be disappointed!

Still paying over $22/month for a gym that now advertises $9 memberships. Since the gym ownership changed there’s now twice as many people and it isn’t clean. It’s been under constant construction. I wanted to give the new chain a chance but it seems they’re turning Aspen from a health club into a weight room. Looking for an alternative with sauna and steam.

I wish there is a 0 star option as that would I give to Crunch Fitness at fairmount. The current Manager "Jayne (dont know exact spell on his name)" is very rude, does not listen to you. We had couple membership with aspen athletic club before crunch took over, and this manager at now called Crunch at Fairmount location, said he dont talk to me as membership is under my wife's name, despite my wife requesting same and giving permission to talk. We signed up for membership with guest privileges and towel services for $24.99 including tax but now we are getting charged $26.99 with $2 hidden ( as they promote $24.99 on webpage) which will charged on crdit card.
They reduce the services they are giving and charging higher rates, they are not giving guest access and they stopped giving towel services as they are transitioned to crunch from Aspen athelitic club.
When we joined, we signed up agreement with $24.99, we get guest service, towel service and kids corner, as crunch is not giving same service as Aspen athletic provided, we asked to cancel membership, but they wont give you annual fee which was charged at day 60 of joining and its only couple of month at this time.
I would continue Gym and ok with annul fee if I get same service at same rate but if you are not giving same, you have to refund annual see as thats what we signed agreement for.
This manager "Jayne" or whatsoever his name is so rude to my wife and also to me on phone and also wont talk to me. There is no policy and procedure in US that prevents the spouse or any family to talk on their behalf with permission. I am not sure why this rude manager thinks that spouse doesn't have a right to talk for issue, with members permission but anyway it was not worth to waste my time with this guy.
I had the worst experience with Crunch fairmount, NY and current manager as of 9/18/23, I would not recommend this gym to anyone, even if they give free services. I hope this review help and I hope administration could take steps to change this manager and hire new one, who is member friendly person, who can talk to people in human way.
Also be aware of the previous reviews were under Aspen Athelitic club leadership in making your decision to join Crunch Fitness.

Says online nothing about a yearly contract, but rather states an open ended agreement.
Also, I was never told I was signing up for a year contract.
Signed up last year and now stuck in a contract when I found a more affordable gym.
They told me I would owe $75 to cancel membership and to also cancel my husbands would be $180 total.
They just care about your money.
Go to planet fitness. You can cancel any month and it’s $10/month.
Nicer staff at planet fitness too.

Equipment is half broke. Asked staff how to use the bikes and get a program no one knows anything. Gliding machines handles are peeling and parts of the keys don’t work. Pull down Lats are a 50/50 if the cables are broke 🤦♂️ . It got frustrating after few months when same equipment went down and it was the same equipment. I am not one to write reviews but if you don’t address the issue why go to half broke equipment to work out. Sorry

I've been going to this gym for the last couple years .it has pretty much everything I need to work out and I like how the place is pretty big so there's different machines to use . The workers are also friendly which i like.Once covid hit though, the hours changed and now they changed the closing time permanently to 10pm rather than 12am . This may not seem like a big deal to the morning people but for people who can't get there , closing even earlier has been a pain for me. They also make us give them my keys to borrow a towel when there's already a 5$ towel fee I'm paying.whats the purpose of that then ?

It's an alright gym to be honest it gets me by after moving from a powerhouse in Rochester.
I've paid the extra 5 bucks a month for myself and my girlfriend for awhile now for towel service however recently they've recently started requiring me to turn my keys in for them to hold onto until I turn my towel back in. You may think this is dramatic however I don't appreciate being punished for the behavior of others and this is just a cheap move by the Aspen management to save a buck.
I've put my contract renewal in my calendar and don't plan on renewing my membership at this gym.
