They put staff that doesn’t represent our community to harass us! Why does he need to clean all day and block machines and when he sees a man or woman that’s white and wants to bother them he goes cleans next to them and if they move and hurt his feelings he then goes follows them until the camera comes out. Then the trainers had one at the entrance as I’m going down the stairs see that i didn’t want to be bothered moving away from him, so he forcefully goes to talk to me and since i didn’t like it or answered he then was coincidentally waiting for me when I came out of the locker room and my whole workout had to be cut short bc it was already 10 times he had passed close to me no matter where I went, then in the lower floor he saw me and hid by the water fountain and wouldn’t move until I left he pops up and goes my direction then as I exited he was right back at the spot where he had greeted me forcefully. I’m glad I paid for this and that our community will not say anything.

Been coming here for years. Great staff, everyone's friendly. Lockers and showers available though I hardly use since I live close by. My wife enjoys the classes and says she gets a great workout.

Awful place witnessed 2 “personal trainers” having an overtly sexual conversation in front of young female gym goers and female employees. It was disgusting and very obviously purposeful on their part, just to make these young women uncomfortable. They need to be fired.

For sure it’s way cleaner than a year ago. Downside is those four bikes by the entry — they’re super old and rough. Same resistance level (8) feels totally different on each one and the seats look like a dog chewed on them. Probably its time to swap them out after 10 years or so.

For the price it’s an ok gym. It is in desperate need of some new machines. No hack/belt squat, no hammer strength machines, no chest supported t-bar row. On top of that the benches on the bottom floor are always broken or wonky.

Plenty of equipment, the staff is nice; not too crowded, has classes too! Only downside is the stairmaster break often and are lower quality

The children working the front desk treat the intercom like they’re bad strip club djs. Every 5 minutes some drawn out speech about when the gym closes. Oh and the gym closes 5, 10 or 20 minutes before the time on the door., depending on where the DJ is going to LES or Williamsburg that night

I’m a member of Crunch, but this gym will constantly call me and book appointments without my permission. There is no reason to constantly contact someone this much when I’m already a member. It is too much.

As someone who frequents Crunch Fitness in Greenpoint, I’ve been disappointed by the lack of focus and professionalism from some of the fitness trainers. It’s clear that they are knowledgeable in their craft, but it’s hard to overlook the moments when they are more interested in their phones or standing with their hands in their pockets rather than fully engaging with their clients.
What frustrates me the most is that trainers are paid to be present and actively helping their clients through their workout sessions. Fitness is a personal journey, and when someone is paying for one-on-one guidance, they deserve the trainer’s undivided attention. However, it’s not uncommon to see trainers scrolling through Instagram or texting while clients are left to fend for themselves, unsure if they’re executing movements correctly or pushing themselves hard enough.
The job of a personal trainer is to motivate, correct, and guide clients with focus and energy, and unfortunately, that’s not always what you get at this location. It would benefit Crunch Fitness if they provided better training on professional etiquette, reminding trainers that their role goes beyond simply demonstrating exercises. Their priority should be client success, not their social media feed.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, as the trainers have the potential to elevate the experience here. After all, a truly engaged trainer can make a world of difference in achieving fitness goals.

Terrible customer service experience with the most unprofessional management team. They do not know how to accommodate or assist the customer when they loose a personal trainer and have difficulty understanding that it’s not a quick fix. They need new management and better oversight so that they do not loose customers and staff. All I needed was to be accommodated appropriately and because they are fixed on the dollar signs, instead of the wellness of the member they are not the best option. I would highly encourage anyone deciding to go to Crunch Greenpoint not to go there. I’ve hear from other gym locations that the Cruch Greenpoint has that notorious aggressive and passive aggressive relationship with their staff and their members. They need a complete change in management beginning with the male general manager and the male manager for personal training.

I've been going to this gym for years solely because it's the only gym close to my house. It is poorly maintained, smells bad and always crowded.
I tried to cancel and while my account showed no more payments, my card was still being charged. They pretended like they never received my cancellation request and have been charging me for months. When I kindly requested they refund at a min. this month and the annual fee that was charged this month, they said the best they could do is the refund the monthly fee. Not great customer service and not a place I want to return to.

The WORST!!! The female manager, Kalana, is a LIAR!!! I joined on 4/22 and was told by her that if I completed 12 sessions (plus the 60 minute intro session with the trainer…which I paid for, completed & didn’t get 60 minutes…long story) before 5/22 I’d get the next month (5/22-6/22 free). She also stated that if I canceled 30 days before 6/22 I wouldn’t incur the $60 maintenance fee.
I completed the 12 sessions on 5/21 and was told I’d get the next month free. Well today, 5/22, I visited the facility after I was charged for 5/22-6/22 (although they told me I wouldn’t be charged) to cancel my membership. She refused to refund the $33.34 and stated that I’d be charged the $60 maintenance fee although I canceled 30 days before. She claims that contractually they can charge the initial $60 maintenance fee and that the free month wouldn’t apply until 6/22-7/22. I told her that’s not what she stated when I signed up. The bald male manager (didn’t catch his name) said they’d “waive” the $60 but rudely told me to take up the $33.34 with my bank.
I hate that I didn’t take heed to the reviews. They’re not only dishonest crooks, but the gym is seriously lacking. The machines appear to be on their last leg, the environment is dark & bleak, at times they don’t even have cleaning products to wipe down the machines after use, and a few of the staff (trainers & definitely management) are not in good shape. Don’t waste your time or money visiting this location. Sucks that Moses and Victoria work there because they’re good trainers/facilitators. I liked the massage bed too and will miss it. Other than that, Crunch Greenpoint SUCKS!!!

Extremely disappointed with the personal training program. One trainer told me that eating tofu would make me “feminine.” Another went on medical leave and I was never informed; during that time, I was charged for sessions I never would have signed up for and refused a refund. Later trainers missed sessions and I was repeatedly scheduled without being consulted. After leaving reviews on Yelp and Google, the regional manager reached out, but it still took multiple calls, emails, and an in person visit to get a refund for 8 of my 13 remaining sessions. My heart sank when the one trainer I liked asked if I’d leave a good review now. I told him, “nooo.” I got a suspiciously timed text from him after another review update, asking me to call about the remaining sessions. It felt manipulative and uncomfortable. I finally got the rest refunded but this was the most exhausting and frustrating experience I have ever had with a business. I just wanted to get in shape for my baby. I should have used ChatGPT instead.

I also got scammed out of close to $1000 here - don’t come! I tried to cancel my personal training twice (was told it was taken care of both times) and they kept charging me for sessions i never agreed to, and also randomly charged me $200 without a reason? I’ve been trying to get a refund for over 3 months but no one will help. They keep saying “they’ll get back to me” but no answers. I even had a meeting with the general manager set up to sort it out and he never showed.
The worst and most infuriating experience I’ve ever had at a gym. No one cares about the members and to make it worse the equipment is old and a lot of it doesn’t work. DO NOT COME HERE! I’ve been a relatively content member for 5 years but it’s taken a nosedive. It’s not worth the cheaper price anymore.

Crunch Greenpoint is in a great spot just five minutes from the G train and surrounded by good food. The gym has two floors with a lot of treadmills but only a few bikes so they can be hard to get. The machines are a mix of older but well-kept ones and some newer muscle-building ones. Some are a little squeaky but nothing too bad. It gets packed during rush hour from 6 to 8 PM but I had no trouble grabbing a treadmill. The fitness class area is right next to the cardio section and the machines are pretty close together so you can definitely feel the person next to you going hard on the treadmill. The treadmills have built-in fans but they mostly blow warm air. The locker room is in the basement where I saw a yoga class happening. The women’s locker room is clean with lots of lockers so bring a lock. There are a good number of bathroom stalls showers and sinks. I saw about four water-filling stations on the first floor and the filters seem solid. Everyone is pretty good about wiping down machines and there are plenty of cleaning stations around.

Hey thought it would be important to shed light on the lack of professionalism from the management. One of the trainers is openly aggressive with other gym goers blowing his top off over nothing, which apparently you get promoted for now??? To head PT???
Right.
Management was also overly pushy trying to sell me a Kickoffs, ignoring my personal space and the fact that I pay to workout not get sold more stuff…
Love to the front desk tho and the chill trainers❤️
P.S high turnaround in employees is a sign of some BS from up top 😘

Visiting NY and needed a free pass. This gym is conveniently located and active, but I was easily able to use a squat rack. Nice mix of free weights and machines, floor space for abs, clean bathrooms and everybody wipes down their stations. Used the free day with no hard-sell. If I lived here, it seemed a good fit.

I’ve been a loyal member of this gym for over seven years, and I’ve always appreciated the welcoming and professional front desk staff—until recently. After reading other reviews, I see I’m not the only one experiencing issues with an employee named “Nick.”
Nick’s attitude is shockingly unprofessional. He is rude, argumentative, and completely unhelpful. Any time you ask him a question, he either doesn’t know the answer or responds with an attitude. Despite claiming to be the “operations manager,” he doesn’t seem to have the knowledge or professionalism expected of that role. Frankly, I doubt the legitimacy of his title.
It’s unacceptable for a staff member to treat paying members with such disrespect. If this continues, I wouldn’t be surprised if more members start canceling their memberships. This gym used to have an inviting atmosphere, but Nick’s presence at the front desk has completely changed that. Management needs to address this issue before it drives away more loyal members.

Front desk operational manager Nick denied me access after I worked in that location for 7 years and am currently a paying member all because I left my Id at home. Shouted at me, talked over me, and treated me very badly. The worst customer experience I ever had, his Name is Nick. How he got hired? I have no idea… he has no idea how to talk to people… did not want to look me up in the system, so I said cancel my membership… but he was willing to look me up to cancel my membership… make that make sense… he’s terrible… he had a toothpick in his mouth, smug face, bad attitude, and had a power high, constantly repeating how he’s the operations manager. This is not how you treat someone who bled and sweat for the company. He is a disgrace and should be fired

I been a member for 6 years and while I appreciate the community and staff
I feel it’s important to raise some concerns
Unfortunately a number of machines get out of order especially cables the squat rack is slanted
Making it difficult to do exercises safely and one of the racks has a sunken floor additionally
I seen molding in certain areas health risk
Another major issue is that cables seem to break
Every month it’s clear that you need regular maintenance
I believe investing in renovations and address these maintenance issues would significantly enhance the experience for All members and bring up business

The gym is clean and the staff are friendly, but they are WAY too passive about allowing people to stay on the very limited number of squat racks for long periods of time. It’s very possible to show up to the gym, stay an hour, and find that the same three people have been squatting the whole time. I watched a guy go to the bathroom for 15 minutes and argue that he didn’t. Sometimes you can swap in with someone but it’s rare. I wouldn’t recommend going here if you intend to squat or exercise after work. The crowding issue is exacerbated by the fact that the entire turf area is taken up at 6:00pm every day for a 3-5 person fitness class.

Just moved from boston to bk and this is the gym is started going to since moving here. Its does the job and has a good selection of equipment. The only drawback is when theres a class taking place on the grass area you cant hip thrust bc the section is blocked off. It would be great if the owner purchased a hip thrust machine or added another section somewhere in the gym where people can hip thrust.

Coach Brown was deeply understanding when I explained the circumstances that lead to me no longer attending PT that I had signed up for earlier this year. Most of the staff is deeply friendly.
However I can’t, in good conscience, leave a 5 star review considering just how long it took for me to be able to speak to someone actually willing to rectify the situation.
After having abruptly stopped attendance due to personal issues I had attempted to communicate my desire to end pt sessions altogether. I was continually charged while recovering and in my time away in spite of having called and emailed trying to end PT charges and to either pause or terminate my membership altogether.
The issue was, thankfully, resolved today.

The gym is fine for the price, but they have to do something about the music volume level. It is SO loud, I can hear it over my noise canceling headphones. It feels like it's gotten even louder in the last couple of months. It's hurting my ears trying to drown out whatever they're blasting from the speakers, and it makes it hard to concentrate on my workout. 90% of people are wearing earbuds or headphones, why does it need to be so loud? I shouldn't have to damage my eardrums to workout. Please turn it down!

Editing my 3 star review from a year or two ago.
I’ve been a member of this gym since 2019 and it has somehow gotten many times worse.
They raised prices, practically doubled the number of members since the other gym in the area closed down, and where exactly has that money gone?
It surely hasn’t gone to the maintenance of the common areas and equipment. There are chunks of mat missing where the free weights are, only half (or less) of the cardio equipment work. The weight machines break and no one bothers to fix them for weeks or months.
It surely hasn’t gone to fixing the mold and putrid smell downstairs. And I mean fixing it, not putting a loud fan in the class studio.
It surely has not gone towards investing in more cleaning supplies seeing as they run out of wipes/paper towels multiple times a week.
I keep trying to justify this place by saying “you get what you pay for” but at this point I am absolutely convinced even their “cheap” memberships are a robbery for the quality of this place.
Truly the only admirable thing about this Crunch is how such a dumpster of a place has managed to monopolized the gym industry in such a popular neighborhood.
That all being said I’ll be there tomorrow since it’s the only real option!

I’ve been going to this crunch in GP for about a year. The staff is always friendly and kind. Specifically Charlos Do the manager ! He goes above and beyond for clients and always has a kind, friendly and affable personality, making me feel comfortable and giving me motivation and great nutrition and workout advice. It’s a good gym for the price. It’s not as crowded as other Crunch Fitnesses nor as expensive. However, it is not a “signature” gym so you can’t expand access to other Crunch gyms through membership. Probably hasn’t been renovated in a decade, but the machines are fine for the price. Locker rooms are not good, but still “fair.” It’s a get in and out experience.

So this place deserves more than 5 stars for how its being managed now. Before it was not great- very frat boy kind of place and had very little knowledge of their own rules. Now its super friendly, no judgement and they just want you to be your best which is very cool. I signed up w angelica who was very kind & knowledgeable i asked so many questions and she knew the answer to everything. I had my kickoff with charlos who has so many certificates im so impressed he knew so so much about how the body works and he was teaching me so many new things and how the body reacts to certain training which is so amazing for me as an inquisitive mind, why A would work better instead of B. I had my training session w paata (peter) and he was just like an extension of charlos so i was super greatful to be in great hands. He showed me how to excel and also explained things throughly so i understood and i loved that. I had a little episode my blood sugar took a nose dive real bad and they took care of me, which was super kind of them to make sure i was okay before leaving. That was honestly very touching to know your not just a number in the system but a person they want to see do well. I am very thankful for the new staff!!! I wish i could give more than 5 stars!

The worst gym I exercise at, only because it's close to me, so I'll survive 1/2 of the training somehow. But since Covid, the machines haven't been lubricated, the tubes on which the weights glide are as dry as leaves in autumn. Everything about this gym SUCKS, truly. They literally closed the whole gym with me and my friend inside. When I say they closed, I mean they literally closed everything, even the gate outside with us inside. No one checked if anyone still in the gym. An the WORST PART that there was a homeless guy living in the gym! And Crunch locked us inside with a random homeless dude, that was terrifying. Took us 4 hours to get in contact with someone. And the manager that facetime us being rude and was yelling at us instead apologizing. My schedule the next morning was completely ruined. After the incident, the manager gave us only one month free. Is that a joke? I can totally sue you. Horrible horrible and again horrible. Bunch of people in flip flops and other weirdness, and it always smells especially downstairs.

I’ve been a member for 4+ years and I feel the urge to rage quit. It’s cheap but you get what you pay for and I would love to find another Greenpoint option. Crunch is best during the day, or a Sunday morning. It constantly smells like mildew and sewage (especially downstairs), half the stuff is broken, overused, janky and crowded. Crunch is just chaotic as hell and no one adheres to any gym etiquette and it’s always new front desk staff that could not care less. If you think you can workout after the work day, forget it. Go home. Especially when 2 classes are happening at once. Spare yourself the headache. There is no where to go. I had to do my warmup practically in the locker room wherever you can find floor space. It’s the closest and cheapest option I’ve found but it’s a bummer of a vibe. And why is it always weirdly steamy downstairs… ugh gross. Whatever I am breathing in at that gym probably is harmful to my health.

This gym has a terrible culture surrounding it . They fired all the staff in December and replaced them with rude unapproachable trainers . The equipment has not been changed in a few years . Female cleaning staff enter the locker room without any notice . This is a gym for people who do not value fitness .

I tried personal training for my girlfriend and I and my sessions with Matt are great. I originally did sessions to motivate her to do hers but I'm having such a good time that I'm going to keep going for my own sessions. Surprisingly affordable for PT, too. If you can afford to live in Greenpoint you can afford the sessions.
I read through some reviews and saw complaints about space and the bathrooms. I think its a busy gym and there's going to be lots of people at peak hours, and you can tell the people leaving these complaints are the type to tell a Starbucks cashier that "they'll never come back to this location again". Showers are wet, bathroom sinks are wet, people sweat and its wet, if it makes anybody feel any better this crunch at peak weekday hours is a lot better than wrestling practice.

Gym is very old looking! It smells like mildew, mold
and urine,. Unclean all around; bathrooms , garbage, and equipment not wiped down , you can literally see the other person sweat stains on the rails and floor of the treadmill machines, old broken equipments, and not to mention, the staff opens up the gym whenever they feel like it. They do not open on time. Several times I had to go back home due to the gym being closed when it should have been opened!! Two thumbs down!!

Lorraine is an incompetent amoral “person”. I’m shocked the franchise owner would have someone who’s rude and condescending managing their establishment. To boot this location is overrun with loud noisy boisterous individuals and not cleanly or well kempt. Im happy to workout outside in the pouring rain instead of coming here. Have a happy and safe blessed day y’all. EDIT Not sure where you’d like me to provided my contact information how about YOU provide me with your contact information and I would be more than happy to discuss in detail my remarks. Also I read the other reviews and their terrible many people are complaining about the same things. I think you should reassess your team because they’re not doing the right thing.

I’ve been going to this gym for 3 years until now. I’ve been a well paying customer for the last 3 years. When I went to renew yesterday they said I needed to give my bank account and routing number, even if your paying card or cash you still have to give this sensitive information. Unfortunately that’s too much info for a gym to have and they’ll will lose a lot of customers asking for such sensitive info.

I’ve been going to this gym fairly consistently for the past 6 months or so. It has all the equipment and amenities I need. There are some consistent issues though—
First, many of the lockers (in the men’s locker room at least) do not function and lock properly. I have had possessions stolen from my locked locker in the past due to faulty, old/broken mechanisms on the actual lockers. The club didn’t respond to any of my multiple attempts to communicate with them about the incident.
Second— the water fountain designed to fill water bottles has been broken for many weeks if not months now. For a commercial gym in the heart of a major neighborhood in New York City, this is a pretty significant inconvenience that seems like it should easily be fixed in a timely manner for paying members to use.
All in all, this gym serves my needs fine, but for all of the revenue they must earn from a substantial number of paying members (the gym is usually very well attended), it does not feel like this facility is particularly well managed, and it’s frustrating and hard to understand why.
Honestly I’d feel 2 stars for the review would be valid, but the truth is that I do enjoy my workouts there all in all, so I don’t want to be overly harsh.

Been a member for years and it’s sad to see how much this gym has gone downhill in the last few months. Today the extremely unprofessional front desk staff wanted to deny me entering into the gym because my card on file expired, even though I have a fully paid annual membership that is active for a few more months. When questioned about this policy, staff started back tracking and after some eye rolling and condescension eventually just denied having said anything.
That on top of the general filth, and equipment in disrepair for weeks on end makes me wish there were more gym options in the neighborhood.

This is probably the worst gym I’ve ever paid for. Because there aren’t any options in greenpoint I’m stuck. I’d pay $200+ a month if that option meant I didn’t have to come here.
They keep the collars behind the front desk (who does that? It’s because “people steal them lol) Machines and treadmills are always broken (the cable machine in basemement always has part broken amirite ?) Bathroom is like a prison as is shower. People are rude that workout there. Lorraine is only person that truly cares but the odds are against her (she’s not getting the support she needs for the change needed).
I could go on. Nobody in greenpoint actually likes crunch. If a blink fitness basic gym opened up even crunch would be doomed.
If there was a local jail that allowed people to workout with inmates it would probably be better.
Just went to another crunch basic gym in NJ that blew this out of the water in regards to having the right machines and equipment, cleaner facilities, collars/clips out , things that work and a set up that is intuitive.
Same restrictions on equipment and much much much better experience.
I hear excuses and changes are coming. But they never do.
I pray Lorraine lands a job where she can be empowered to make the changes needed to appease members. She’s lovely and has an unlimited ceiling in a different organization.
I’m currently open to paying 6+ x the fee and walk 30 mins as well each way so I don’t have to put up with this spot.
Googling spots rn when I decided to write this review.

Love Crunch, but this location had a female employee cleaning the men’s locker room without warning, which was unfair to not only the men , but the female employee in question. It’s just unnecessary inappropriate, and could be argued to be discriminatory -unless there’s also a male cleaning the female locker room which I highly doubt.
This was all too bad, as front desk staff were friendly and pleasant.

Does the job. Not enough cable machine such as flys or push down. Only one dedicated calf machine the rest I have to wait to use leg presses in the circuit area. Plenty of idiots walking around with no shoes on hogging squat racks. But for under $30 a month and if you go at the right time it’s good enough .

Avoid. Closest gym to me, otherwise would not go here. No effective mgmt contact, place never gets a thorough cleaning (class room smells horrid, black feet if you walk around barefoot), air conditioning not working downstairs over major parts of the summer, frequent big puddles on the main floor due roof leaks, amenities have been taken out or don’t work (Hydromassage), yet you still get charged for them, no billing contact, front desk staff are very nice but have no idea what’s going on. No one steering the ship around here. Don’t bother contacting the corporate number listed at the website, it’s an “unmonitored mailbox,” which just means it’s a recording letting you know there’s no one there. LOL Been a member at many gyms, I’ve never had this kind of experience before. i’m told this is a franchise gym, and better to go to a Crunch that IS NOT a franchise. Find another gym, if you can.
Update: "response from owner" sounds like the autoresponder when you call the main no. at the site. LOL Been there, done that. Does nothing. Next suggestion?

Recently raised my prices, but haven’t fixed the broken stationary bikes since I joined. Some machines don’t allow you to lock seating positions into the appropriate places, cheap leather ripping on them.
For the price point, sure it’s fine- but you need to know they don’t maintain their equipment and their basement has no air flow.

I have been going to this gym for about 2 years now. Over the past year, the quality of this gym has gone down significantly.
* The Wi-Fi hasn't worked in over a month and no one seems to know when it will be fixed.
* Equipment is often left broken.
* It's often very crowded. (I know they can't control that but I figured it was worth calling out).
I would be changing gyms if there were other options available in my area.

I give this location three stars because management along with IT doesn’t do a good job of following up or following through on issues pertaining to the app.

Gym is extremely crowded at all times and layout is poor with a lot of wasted space. Numerous things are broken or damaged, including machines, paper towel dispensers, and even part of the wall. Trash is often overflowing and on the floor. Random unhoused people wander in every now and then.
People go here because the neighborhood is starved of real gyms to compete with it. Only positive is its very cheap, so maybe it's worth the price. Hoping a nicer gym comes to Greenpoint soon.

I used to train here two years ago before UFC Fit opened. I switched over because the equipment and AC were regularly broken, the locker room was disgusting, and I had some issues with the male members harassing me while I trained. Since Crunch bought out the members at UFC Fit causing the gym to permanently close, I’ve unfortunately had to go back. For whatever reason now, the gym seems to smell of urine. Especially the studio area. I’m struggling with the idea of returning because of my previous experience at this gym. Hoping these issues get resolved ASAP.

Nothing against the staff. This place is just way too crowded and can be even more frustrating when so many of the machines are out of order. I suggest they redesign the flow of the space. Either move the HITT area downstairs and the other weight upstairs or vice versa. The way it is split now doesn’t make any sense. Then they can fit more machines upstairs and people can be more efficient by staying on mostly one floor instead of having to go back and forth.

Working out in a hot environment is dreadful. You can put clothes on when you're cold, but you can't take your skin off when you're too hot during a workout. I always wear light workout clothes, so that's not the issue.
