I’ve been going to this gym for 2+ years and haven’t met anyone as kind and helpful as Greg! He noticed I was struggling with the brand new hip thrust machine and graciously explained how to use it! Thank you!

This location is consistently over-crowded, making it extremely difficult to use machines and benches without significant waits almost any time of day. The facilities are disappointing; the locker room is noticeably cramped and generally dirty. Service is also a major issue, as the staff rarely organizes weights and instead often uses their shift time for personal workouts, sometimes reserving essential equipment for themselves. For a $320 monthly fee, the poor maintenance, crowded spaces and lack of service do not reflect a premium experience.

Equinox Columbus Circle is by far the worst location I’ve been to. The customer service is terrible and it’s obvious the front desk staff hasn’t been properly trained. At every other club I can check in smoothly through the app via Bluetooth — no need to stop, no need to flash my phone. That’s the entire point of the app check-in.
But at this location, after checking in on the app (with my phone clearly showing “checked in”), a front desk staff member stopped me and said, “You have to check in.” When I explained that I had already checked in, he argued back saying I had to check in “every time I come back into the gym.” The problem is, I hadn’t even been to the gym at all that day. He clearly had no idea how the system actually works.
It’s ridiculous that a flagship location in the middle of Manhattan can’t train their own staff on something as basic as how members check in. Instead of a seamless experience, members get hassled and questioned for using the tools Equinox itself provides. Completely unacceptable.

I actually really like this location and work out here frequently. My only issue is that it can take up to a week to receive invoices for payments made. There should be an automated system to get receipts.

Bad! Dirty showers too with loads of hair slapped on shower walls. Showers are not cleaned. Towels are hard like chalkboards and not in good condition with tears. Hair dryers are old and cheap barely blowing hot air. Cleaning ladies leaving their stuff everywhere not really doing anything but pushing a dry floor mop around. The workout equipment is not maintained well and sanitized. Too many members in one small space who are snobby, unfriendly and weird. This gym is falling apart.

They are closed early about once a week for repairs. Equinox might as well give up! They are sinking into the abyss of greed and wearing their karma. This gym is junk. Especially since my wife caught a fungus in the locker room that we are planning to sue for compensation in medical bills! Unclean in areas and staff.

Absolutely not. Honestly, if you are considering committing to an equinox membership in nyc, look into any other high end gym. There are plenty others in the city for far less money that provide a superior customer experience. Equinox’s customer service is abysmal. It takes days to get ahold of the right manager or sales person if you have a membership issue. I have been an equinox member since 2016 and the experience has tanked in the last few years. The clubs are crowded. The equipment is NEVER fixed when it breaks. They’ll raise your membership fees without warning. The staff are unhelpful. Lifetime is opening several new locations around the city. Check them out. Or Pelaton Fitness. Blink. Explore other options before you sign up for equinox just because they have nice advertising.

Terrible!! I visited wanting a tour!! Staff are very pushy, got asked a LOT of extremely personal questions by employees other than the front desk (my address and my full name) which I did NOT answer! I did get a tour but the staff were pushy to make me pay for a membership and I’m not going to after the way every location I visits decides to do that. Avoid this overrated corrupted gym. This is worthless to me!!

The staff here were unreasonably rude, and it made the entire visit uncomfortable. I hope management addresses this and provides proper training on how to speak to customers respectfully.
Honestly, I don’t understand if this gym is meant for the members’ workouts or for the staff to treat people however they like. As far as I know, gym staff should be there to help customers feel comfortable and enjoy their time while working out — not to be rude or unprofessional. Really disappointing experience.

Front desk people were incredibly rude and made my friend cry. Not understanding whatsoever despite her showing them texts from her (very nice and knowledgeable) sales rep. Also refused her a tour. If you want to be a member of Equinox I highly recommend going to a different location because this one has a culture problem

I’ve been thinking about joining Equinox since moving to New York last year, and finally booked a tour with a rep at Rock Center. He was awesome, extremely welcoming, and offered me the chance to try a class at the Columbus Circle location, as the Rock Center location is closed on weekends. He booked me for a 7:30 pm precision run class & sent me a text confirmation.
I show up to the Columbus Circle location at 7:22 and tell the front desk person that I’m visiting for a class my sales rep booked me to try at this location. He asked why I don’t have a bar code. I said I wasn’t aware of or provided a bar code, as I’ve never been here. He then in a condescending tone said “you see everyone scanning their bar codes? You’re supposed to have one of those”. He then asked for my name, looked me up, and said I wasn’t on the visitor list. I gave him the name of my sales rep, showed him our emails and text messages. He then said there’s no one by that name who works here. I said I know, that he works at the Rock Center location where I originally toured, but I’m fine to speak to a different sales rep here if that’s easier. The front desk person then says they’re busy with tours, and there’s nothing he can do to get me in. I ask if I can speak to someone else, he calls someone, and says into the phone “someone is trying to take a class with no pass or membership” without any additional context, then says the AGM will come out to talk to me.
The AGM comes out at 7:30, when the class is supposed to be starting, and asks what’s going on. I explain everything to him and he asks what class I’m supposed to be trying. I tell him precision run at 7:31, and he says “yeah looks like you’re late and we can’t let you in to the class. And you should’ve been sent a bar code to get in anyway” I explain again that I am brand new to equinox, have no idea what the bar code is, and also got here 10 mins ago before the class was supposed to start. He says casually “sorry I know this isn’t a good first experience but we can’t let you in today, do you know if your sales rep new to his job?” How would I know that? I told him I didn’t appreciate the attitude and tone I was given throughout this whole ordeal, he seemed confused, so I just walked away to the elevators visibly upset and left.
I was a little frustrated that I couldn’t take the class, but honestly mostly just sad by the way I was treated, as if I was someone trying to sneak in or something. I wasn’t even offered a quick tour and was made to feel like I was the stupid one for showing up, when I literally have no idea how tours or passes work.
Anyway, I’d highly recommend touring the Rock Center location, the staff there was lovely.

Joined this gym in 2020 and within 2 months of using the locker rooms I had contracted an aggressive strain of toe nail fungus. Worth noting I thought I was being very careful and always wore sandals in the locker room. It may look clean but its not. Fast forward 5 years and thousands of dollars worth of treatment later, I am still fighting this aggressive and unsightly strain for fungus, applying topicals to my toes every single day in the hopes to rid myself of this infection. Please if you plan to join this gym, avoid the lockers rooms at all costs or risk long term damage to your health.

A disappointment moment with this branch.
The other day I cut my hand while using the lockers. It was bleeding and I couldn’t make it stop. So I went to the front desk and asked for a small bandaid. They said they don’t have any. I was surprised. So I asked whether they have a first aid kit, cause usually they come with bandages, and they said they don’t have it either.
It’s surprising that a gym doesn’t come with these stuff. So, imagine something happens to you, and the facility don’t have basic stuff to take care of you.

I just had the worst experience with the front desk at this club. I have not been treated this rude at an Equinox and I go to quite a few in the city. The front desk doesn’t do their job checking who checked in on their own system and instead question everyone came in if they checked in or not. If the automated check-in system doesn’t work, please don’t even enable it and just manually check everyone in.

I registered for this gym in May 2023, but I've been experiencing technical issues with the app since day one. I can't log into my account to book any classes. I spoke with my account adviser, Caroline, who said she would need to involve the technical team to help resolve the issue. However, after a week, I still can't book a class through the app.
I then called my account adviser to cancel my membership. The app indicates that my membership is canceled, but I'm still being charged month to month for the next 17 months. I called them today, and they said they can’t do anything about it, even though it's not my fault that I couldn't log into my account thus I had to cancel. The manager- Tang, said he can't do anything to help!

I used to work there as a Personal Trainer. It's a beautiful gym and the staff is great. There's a "service oriented" philosophy as it should be for the price. Moist towels scent with eucalyptus and PT doubled as floor monitors during down time until your client list was full. That means the members and staff actually got to know each other very.
There's complementary toiletries in the locker rooms and showers for members.

I visited this club and took a tour with my friend who was gifted a membership by her boss. I got a massage and the Therapist was above and beyond awesome! I actually asked her if she does in-home private services outside of Equinox because she was just THAT good. She gets 5-stars but regarding the gym itself, I was not impressed. Long wait for machines, classes seemed crowded and after my workout, there were no towels for me to use. Based on their prices, I'm surprised that it seemed more like a low-end facility rather than the luxury that I imagined would be associated with Equinox .

===update ===
After 2 months of equinox promised this issue will be investigated, there was 0 communication, 0 follow-ups from Equinox other than promotion emails
==========
I have been a dedicated member of Equinox, consistently enjoying the high-quality fitness classes and the community's mission.
Unfortunately, a recent incident at the Columbus Circle location has compelled me to cancel my membership.
The issue began when I placed my scooter in an area(hall way) as suggested by an assistant manager(see picture), which seemed to be a misunderstanding on the part of the general management. Last Saturday, the General Manager, Mr. Tang, took it upon himself to lock my scooter away without prior notice. When I questioned this action, he challenged the legitimacy of my earlier interaction with the assistant manager in a manner that I perceived as rude and mistrusting. This incident not only caused me inconvenience but also signaled a concerning lack of trust and respect towards members.
What compounded my disappointment was the lack of any form of apology on locking up my properties or remedial action from the General Manager, despite being made aware of the situation and its impact on me as a member. Further, the response—or lack thereof—from the Equinox Concierge service did nothing to address the situation, leaving my concerns unacknowledged.
The only reaction I got from concierge is: “We're sorry to hear you are leaving Equinox and we thank you for your time with us. If you would like to reinstate your membership, you may do so within 60 days of your cancellation date.
This review is a difficult one to write, given that the coaching staff and classes at Equinox are exceptional. However, management's trust in and treatment of its members is equally important.
I’ve been to many equinox clubs, and this Columbus circle club is the reason why I choose to leave. If you have a chance to try a different club/fitness place, please try it and don’t let anyone treat you as they do.

In fairness to the location, it's always clean, I've never felt the gym floor was too crowded, the classes are well attended but not packed, and the locker rooms are very clean. I'm not a swimmer, but the pool would also make me very happy if I were. The only downside to the location is that it doesn't have a great layout and has no windows (as it's in a basement). The negative reviews here do not match my experience, and I've been visiting this location for years.

They’re packed all day every day, morning, midday, and evening. Whether it’s a weekday, a weekend, or a holiday they never have enough space.
The equipment is dirty, shows its age, and dedicates 70% of the space to treadmills that go unused.
They rarely keep a consistent class schedule, drop classes regularly, and have limited programming. The class spaces are frequently empty, you may like that if you need space for your free form dance or hand stand walking.
You’ll slip and fall in the locker room between the wet floor and mountain of towels that don’t get picked up. Their toiletries are often empty. You’ll worry what you might be stepping on.
Most importantly they close incredibly early, some days they close as early as 4pm.
You can’t build a habit of health here.

It was my first time in Equinox and I went there in a rainy Saturday morning. My pros and cons are next:
Pros: In overall the place was ok with nice staff, they have a well size pool. Good choice big equipment and classes. Nice sauna. Everything looked clean.
Cons: it looked a bit small and crowded. My yoga class was packed and the instructor ok.

Service has gone way downhill at the Columbus Circle location. It is no longer a high end experience. There have not been towels available in the men’s locker room for over a month and a half. The staff claims it is out of their control and Equinox cant fix their broken dryer. Seriously? Equinox is owned by Related- one of the top Real Estate developers in the world and they cant figure out how to fix a dryer?! Or maybe bring in temp dryers until its fixed or fly an intern over to China to pick up a part to fix it? Someone in charge of Ops is not doing their job or truthfully has no interest in the member experience. Best to save your money and go to New York Sports Club for what is now a similar experience for a much lower price.

I've been a customer at Equinox since 2015, I must say this location is among my least favorite. I really like the 25m pool. But other than that, especially recently, it has been a disappointment. There has been so many issues. The dryer doesn't work and has not been working for weeks, therefore, customers are limited to 1 towel. The air is not well ventilated for weeks. Just the other day, the electricity was suddenly running low voltage, making it hard to dry my long hair. The staff are not friendly or helpful, usually giving out this "there is nothing i can do for you" attitude. Dismissal. One time i had an emergency phone call and have to take it in a semi quiet area. The staff said they can't help at all, even tho they do have empty offices with doors. All in all, the maintenance is not great, the staff impresses me with the "this is not my problem" vibe (not all staff, to be fair. Some are quite nice. Some are not at all.). I hope management will do something to improve the situation. We do pay a lot to work out here.

For such a “hot spot” location in NYC … I’m disappointed. No towels in the locker rooms - you have to get it from the front desk and they had none upon my arrival so had to go back to the front after working out to get one. Not very luxury. My friend and I came for their bring a friend event and there was quite literally nothing “special” going on. We tried to use the yoga/barre room after the last class let out and were told “no” by cleaning staff that wasn’t even cleaning, just messing around and joking. Wasn’t given any explanation why we couldn’t use the room either. Would not recommend this location. Too crowded and understaffed.

As others have said, it's subterranean and has no natural light, and it feels dark and not well ventilated. Much of the plate loaded weight equipment is the older Hammer Strength brand, not the Precor used in updated clubs . It has 3 small stretch areas scattered at the ends of the club. The large pool is an upside, but it's often very busy.

After 20 years of not having a single negative incident, I’ve had repeated bad experiences at this location. I hope corporate reads this and investigate further. It’s worth understanding why the ratings of this location are so low.
It was obvious from my interaction with them that the mentality that runs through the team that works in the location come from the management of this location.

I was met with a “we don’t do that here” attitude and instant dismissal. I know for a fact the company does it as our club in DC did, and your own website says that various clubs do. IF I did want to purchase a membership, that isn’t how to treat a customer. Truly disappointed but no surprise as this brand and it’s clientele love to flaunt how exclusive they are. READ IF YOU WANT TO GO HERE. Surprise fees galore, not straightforward in their information to you. Gym is 2 minutes from where I live, very clean, equipment is well maintained. However, when I requested to be downgraded to single club from all access (advertised as all locations minus destination clubs, there are two known ones in NYC), I was told that this location was “special” and that you needed an all access membership to go here (however is not a destination club). What’s more, when signing up, was told it was a one time 50 dollar freeze fee to pause membership. I recently injured myself in training. I was told that it was actually “50 dollars per month.” I could almost just sign up at another gym for that cost.

If I could I would have given this location 1.5 stars because it's just not it. Especially the locker room. The locker room just feels dirty and not maintained well. And because the locker room is on the smaller side, it DEFINITELY got too crowded.
In terms of the gym itself, I wanted to give this location the benefit of the doubt after I read the reviews but generally, I do agree with other reviewers that because it's underground and it doesn't get natural lighting, despite the lights being turn on, it seemed dark. It's pretty small too so it also gets crowded.

My husband LOVED going but he got so much anxiety from the personal trainer guys always bugging him to ‘try their orientation’ he ended up canceling. It really took away from the relaxed experience - he was constantly avoiding eye contact with them and felt pestered. I think Equinox is great so I hope you take this feedback onboard.

Hate that this gym is in the basement of the Columbus circle mall. But the staff is great. Awesome equipment and great amenities.

THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT GREETED MY NEPHEW AND I WAS VERY WELCOME, VERY HONEST,THE GYM IT SELF TO ME FELT BLAND, I DON'T GO INSIDE A FITNESS GYM TO PARTY BUT THE AMBIANCE WAS BEYOND DULL, THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS GYM WAS THE CONVERSATION FROM OUR REPRESENTATIVES /TOUR GUIDE...

I've been coming to this gym for a few years and wanted to leave a positive review/recommendation. The location and accessibility options for this large Equinox are great (albeit its in the lower level and no natural lightning). Place is always clean and has plenty of equipment/weights.
Cons: Does get crowded and hectic during peak hours.
I also wanted to give a shout out to Fernando! Who's one of best and is always willing to help

Probably my favorite location because of convenience. All locations are great but not so great when they are absolutely packed on some hours. I wish they would be open 24 hours as I prefer to workout later in the evening.

The manager is very cute. Easy on the eyes.😜 I've finally found out how much membership costs. I haven't met anyone else besides the sweet front desk person and the manager. Did I mention how cute he is. Lord. I don't want to be crude here. Ok. So disappointed however to not see the juice bar operational. I've yet to experience that. But would love to see more of the club.

SLOWEST SERVICE EVER. I’m in the cafe. It took them 20min to make me a smoothie. Neither person who works behind the counter is wearing a mask (they both have their masks down below their chins … WHILE they prepare smoothies/bowls and talk to customers.)

Not the best when comparing it to other locations but it's clean and has a lot of equipment. Classes could be better and the hot water hasn't worked the last 2x I showered there. Very expensive and the prices keep rising.

Love this equinox! One of the best in the midtown area! Tons of classes along with well-trained front desk. Probably because of the pandemic, all classes and the training floor are not crowded at all! The equipment used for main studio can be a bit more clean though.

I decided to check out this gym and see what it’s about. I didn’t like the fact that the people who worked at the front desk acted like bouncers at a club. You pay more for this type of gym for service and cleanliness among other things. The staff was enough for me to be turned off. While the bathroom was clean, the equipments and the machines are always being occupied after work hours 6-7pm. It’s crowded and most of the people just sit around and do nothing. It’s a gym in the basement. No natural lighting and there’s no separation between the weights and the cardio equipment. I expect better if I’m paying for an elite gym. Will be taking my business elsewhere. Please train your staff on customer service and limit the amount of people who workout in the gym at certain hours.

Nice facility. Staff is great. One Covid-related warning though: in general, members are mask-free throughout the locker room. (Gym floor is fine.) Guys shave in the open area in blatant violation of the rules. Cleaning staff claim they don't have the authority to enforce the rules. No other Equinox location seems to have this issue as far as I can tell.

This is not my “home gym” but it is closer to home so I come here regularly for quick workouts before work. The staff is friendly and the equipment is immaculate. Class offerings are abundant and instructors are energetic and knowledgable. Women’s locker room is clean. I was initially deterred to join equinox due to the previous reviews of this location but the experience had changed my mind. I love this place and the chain!

My journey with equinox started with an email. One day after going online and searching for the benefits to equinox I received an email from an equinox rep that worked at the Columbus circle location.
After chatting back and forth with her and reviving a free 3-day pass I was able to go and visit the location. Upon arriving everything was a mess, the front desk was overwhelmed with members (why does such an expensive gym lack members?) and they were not allowing me inside without speaking to the person that had been emailing me. After numerous calls to her phone they decided to let me in and I was thrilled to finally start. Only one problem- I didn’t know how to maneuver around this new gym. So after asking a couple people where everything was at, i asked a front desk to help me around. She really gave me a hurried tour and then told me to just “find my way around”. That’s when I was like you know what ? I’m going to pay 200 for what ? To be in an overly crowded, dark, expansive gym? If it wasn’t for a rep from the Wall Street location (see my review on the equinox Wall Street google reviews) I would have never reconsidered this gym. The location lacks efficiency and mannerism. I’ve never gone to the gym and had my mood plummet.

--Update--
1. Equinox Corporate turns out to be very unhelpful, keeps asking us to resolve the matter with Equinox Columbus Circle, where the incident happened and the GM doesn't care. Very unprofessional.
2. GM at Columbus Circle did not care, and chose to protect his lying/rude employees. The GM was supposed to contact us...but not until after 5 calls with Equinox Corp asking why no one was reaching out.
3. Issue was never resolved.
4. Assistant manager's name may not be Catrina, but is something that started with a C.
5. Avoid this place.
--Summary--
Front desk (Hanna) was rude and manipulative, assistant manager (Catrina) was extreme rude and lied to our face. Equinox Corporate (Corbin) was professional and helpful, but waiting for the general manager of this location to call us back to see if the issue can be resolved. Currently waiting for our refund and the status of our membership.
---Details---
I am not a member of the gym (although I was about to sign up since my gf is a member and I'm about to move), so I was using the gym with my gf's guest pass. Upon entering the gym, front desk (Hanna) right away gave my gf an attitude, claiming that she could have signed me up through her phone app, which would have been much easier (fine). We then realized that Equinox deducted us for 2 guest passes instead of 1, so we went back to Hanna for help. She told us (again with an attitude) that this is not her problem and she can't help. We asked her if she could speak with her manager, she agreed but just stood there and did nothing. Eventually she promised that she would speak to her manager and talk to us after our work out.
This is when the situation really turned south.
After our work out, we spoke with the manager, Catrina. Once again, we had to explain her the entire situation, and she simply said "call IT, I can't do anything", and of course with an attitude. She then pulled out my gf's guest pass history, noting that I've used her guest pass 4 times, and said "you've already used it 4 times in total, what do you want me to do? You are already taking advantage, because you are supposed to sign up after 2 times of use". At this point, we really got upset because we knew the "2 time use" rule was straight up just a lie (which was confirmed by Equinox Corporate afterwards, as long as you have a guest pass, you can give it to whoever you'd like). After calling her out by asking her to provide this rule in writing, Catrina became even more rude and aggressive, and said "you are not a member, so I refuse to talk to you". I later asked for both Catrina and Hanna's name, and said I would file a complaint against the both of them, Catrina simply responded with "I don't think this is necessary" and just walked away.
Catrina was rude since the beginning because apparently Hanna told her we had an attitude (Hanna mistreated us to begin with and we were a bit frustrated, but Hanna gave us an attitude ever since we walked in and throughout). I just think it's funny how Catrina believed a one sided story and labeled us as the bad people, and massively mistreated us by lying and disrespecting.
The next day...
We received a call from this location, saying that our membership will be canceled due to 2 incidents the day before. Management at this location only listened to the one sided story told by Hanna and Catrina, didn't care to find out what we had to say, and canceled our membership just like that. We are currently in the process of getting refund for 2 months, which they agreed to pay us back.
After filing a complaint to Equinox Corporate, they said the GM of this location would contact us and try to resolve this issue. We are still waiting for their call and they were supposed to call us yesterday. We hope that the GM will be professional (like Corbin from Equinox Corporate), unlike Hanna and Catrina.
---Aside---
After reading some of the comments below, it appears that this location can be discriminatory against minorities, not sure if our experience here was related, but just a thought.

I have a highly demanding job requiring me to work 12 hour days. So, Equinox at Columbus Circle is worth every cent. The staff at the front desk always greets me with a smile and humor. The music playing in the gym begins to get me motivated. The ultra clean locker room and gym floor makes it easy for me to find whatever I need, from towels to dumbbells. I was surprised at the negative reviews of this locations. Then I read them and realized their complaining about "first-world" problems.
