This review is in regards to the trainer, Katt Carter. She is the only trainer I have encountered in this location who asks other gym members if her clients can weave in to share a machine and the way she does so is very mean girl style. She has done this to me on two separate occasions. She will loudly make her way over with her client by laughing and talking excessively loudly to make it hard not to notice her and her client. She stood very close to me while I am using one of the machines. When I was done with my set, she immediately asked if her client can take turns with me with the expectation of me saying yes by how she was motioning towards the machine and me as if I was going to get off the machine. I said I'd like to finish my last set and I'll only need about 30 seconds to break (since the weights were light enough). She responds with a very faint "oh" and her and her client go radio-silent. She either forgot or doesn't care that she solicited me once to be one of her clients. With this very last interaction I had with her, she made it very clear that she does not and will not care about you in any capacity if you don't take up on her services and perhaps you are finished training sessions with her. I'm really glad I never reached out to her, after she tried to do the whole "girl-power" scripted sales pitch on me.

I live in Miami. Club fraudulently signed me up for a membership in NYC. Called many times and left many messages for Manager - no one ever called back. Front desk has horrible attitude problem. AVOID Club. Avoid Equinox

This review is for the spa only-
I’m in NYC visiting (I’m an equinox member in Dallas) and got awful pain that seemed like plantar fasciitis 2 days into my trip. I booked a next day massage with Tatsianna. I will say, this locations spa is not as luxurious at the highland park (Dallas) location but I think this might be the BEST massage I’ve ever gotten. I am no longer in any pain and feel so refreshed after this deep tissue massage

I toured this location and had my trial pass during what I was told would be peak hours - Monday after work. I didn’t think it was too crowded and I asked about the cancellation policy and was informed that there was no commitment period and I could cancel at any time. I chose this specific location due to its convenience for my work proximity.
That is when I started my membership. I found the facilities quite nice for the first few months. Then the AC stopped working.
We would receive notices that the AC wasn’t working and that we could use any other location in the meantime. That’s great and all except I chose this location for a reason and going elsewhere was not ideal.

This continued on for months upon months. I don’t think a single month went by where I could consistently use this gym. Compounded with an acceleration of members. I am a runner and on my tour I asked if there was ever an issue with accessing the treadmills. I was told they never filled up. Well about 6 months into my membership I had to wait for classes on the treadmills to be done so I could access them due to the fact that all of the non class related treadmills were busy. The rest of the floor was awful as well. Every single machine was in use.
For strength equipment there is only one smith machine which I never found empty and all other machines you needed to wait for. If I had found that to be the case during my trial I would not have signed up for this gym.

Between the lack of access to the location, the overcrowdedness and the fact it closed so early on Fridays I decided it wasn’t worth the high price point. Even when they said the AC was fixed I would go to workout and with the overcrowding it was still incredibly hot and stuffy.

On to the cancelation request : It took weeks to process this cancellation and I had to really advocate for myself they were not wanting to uphold the cancellation that was verbally told to me as apparently you had to request an amendment at signing for a way out of the commitment period. This should have been told to me but wasn’t as I was told verbally that I could cancel at any time. I take accountability for that as well as I should have read the contract more carefully.

At any rate I cancelled my membership after 11 months.
I know several people who go to this location and told me after i left there was an issue with the hot water and they were told again to use other gyms and the AC still hadn’t been fixed. (Not sure how that’s possible after a full year of these emails and notices)

The locker rooms are nice and the cleaners are on top of things so they have that going for them. I can’t recommend this location to anyone given my experience.

Gym is ok, equipment is dated. Bathrooms are horrible, soap dispensers don't work, not enough stalls, shortage of toilet paper...

Industrial, lofted gym floor above an Earthbar with good lighting.

Lacking a sauna, on the warmer side, and early closure

I’ve been going back and forth with the people online FOR MONTHS trying to cancel my membership. I travel for work and have moved my main residence AWAY from the city. I have a place in NY but have spent most of my time away.

Despite submitting documents and my one year coming to a close not a single person will return my calls or emails and I am considering getting legal representation at this point.

This is by far the best and cleanest gym in NYC. I tried other gyms in the area, and I came running back here. I would like to thank Jaysan and the manager, Silvard, for going above and beyond to help me get signed up.

I had the opportunity to train with one of their personal trainers, and it was a pleasure working with Felix. He helped me realize how much more I’m capable of pushing myself. All the exercises were tailored specifically to my fitness goals.

After working with the same trainer for years, I wanted to try a new place with a new trainer and landed on this location of Equinox. BY FAR the worst training session I’ve ever had. My trainer’s name was Jay G. He is a newer hire and really needs to be trained on how to listen to a client’s needs and help work with those needs. He had never met me before but insisted that he knew best, does not give adequate warmup instructions, does not explain why the exercise he is showing would be beneficial for my needs, etc. He even told me, in passing, that he was a personal trainer for years, so that must mean that he is just really bad at his job. He is going to end up getting a client injured because of his lack of listening.
I’m hoping it was just a one-off with a bad trainer, but I definitely will make sure to tell my fellow equinox friends to avoid Jay G.

This equinox has gotten so bad. There’s never toilet paper in the stalls. There is 2 bench presses in the entire gym and they’re always full. They switched out the Kiehls products for a much worse product and are trying to convince the members that it’s just as good when it’s clearly not and nobody likes it.

Literally nobody around me and they're telling me i can't jump rope?

Remo Moten needs to work on his communication skills and professionalism.

No hairties in the men's locker room and no diffusers on the hair dryers. I honestly don't get why every equinox only fully stocks the women's restroom. We're literally paying hundreds a month but get less stock because we're men?

Don't ask me how I know, my gf has told me.

I went to the shop today around 635-645. The associate Christina “Selena” went above and beyond and then some to find me my Oliver’s Olive shorts! She took the time to find it, track it at Flatiron and then save it for me. Little things like this - details, customer service, responsiveness. I so so love this. Thank you !! It made my day.

I was a member here years ago then after the pandemic, I had to leave (unfortunately). I just came back and boy did I miss this gym. When the class instructor greets you again and remembers you had an injury from years ago, that’s something to cherish. So happy I’m back!!

I trained with Vanessa for over a year after planning on only a few starter sessions - she is the best! Made me feel amazing in my body and progress and motivated me the entire way even through rough patches. Could not recommend her more especially for people who feel intimidated by the gym environment. Will be checking in with her even after my last session and I can really tell she cares about my progress beyond our sessions.

The ugliest of the equinox gyms in Manhattan: low ceiling, too hot, terrible distribution of the few machines they have. Looks more like the cheap gyms that cost about 30 dollars a month.
Also, they close really early and are closed on Sunday. To be qualified as part of equinox, an extreme (impossible in such a small place) renovation and change of opening hours policy is needed.

One of my favorite gyms to visit whilst working in the city - always clean, all machines work, and classes start promptly.

I will also say, the cleaning ladies in the women's locker rooms are impeccable!!! They do an amazing job to make sure everything is stocked and clean! Highly recommend.

Wish I could get an honest rate without being put on hold to speak to an "adviser" first and have them take all my contact and employer info, all for them to tell me info they should've given me without the hassle. This is an NYC gym not a car dealership. I expected an NYC gym to move faster than that....

Membership 'advisors' will charge you erroneously, promise to fix it, and then not be able to convey what you're actually paying for or how you will be refunded/credited. It should not be that hard to join a gym.

Management needs to better train the 'advisors,' bc what I just experienced in order to rejoin is a joke. They charged the wrong amount before I even signed the contract and had no ability to clearly tell me how it would be fixed. Ridiculous.

I like this location and it was my main club when I worked in the area. Smaller than other clubs but they have everything you need. A bit of an odd layout over multiple levels due to expansion over the years. My biggest complaint is on two recent visits, the men's shower area smells like stale cigars! Blecch!!!

I like Equinox a lot and have used most of their Manhattan facilities and many in other cities. Compared to a NYSC, this would have 5 stars, but it doesn’t measure up to most Equinoxes.

It’s clean enough, but I notice dirt that I don’t see in other EQs. The cycling studio is crowded and has bad ventilation. It has two stretching areas, but they’re both small and under-equipped. It used to have a great salad and healthy hot meal bar, but they replaced it with a Juice Press. It’s the best Juice of any Equinox: there’s space for them to prepare food not available at other JP outlets, but it used to be so much better. There were lines for salads, now it doesn’t seem used nearly as much.

The two floors are windowless, but organized really well, especially given the space. Staff is great. It being Midtown, the midday/lunch hour classes are generally full and there are shower lines in the men’s locker room. Time your visit.

Very friendly staff, all types of equipment that you can possibly dream of, nice shower rooms.

The personal training program is very good as well. My trainer is Maurice. He is a true expert, very patient and friendly; can always count on him to correct my gestures; when I say that I feel back pain or something, he can adjust the gestures on the spot to fit my situation, can almost always find the proper weights; gives the right amount of push but not too much; knows tons of routines and stretches by heart; strong; perfect body shape; flexible for adjusting schedules; nothing to complain about.
