It’s always crowded here. The steam room in the women’s locker room smells off- like mold or mildew or something and has smelt this way since I became a member in February 2025. The music here (and all equinox’s) is blah. The pool is the only redeeming quality.

Swim class with Ester is truly a good time! She is an excellent coach! Not only do I love her class but she is direct, has a great selection of music every time and curates quite the vibe! One of my favorite hours spent each week with her swim TEAM…

One of the most ill run locations, employees are disrespectful to their own gym, some employees are taking selfies with gym members in the background and posting them on social media without consent, other employees are leaving towels on the crowded locker room floor, (being disrespectful to their fellow employees) employees are using two gym machines, alternating, occupying two machines at once.
Rude and arrogant behavior, in my opinion Leo Mongiovi is a bad manager or "director" how they call it.
The whole team needs to be replaced.

Great gym, it’s my second time. I actually like the 3 floors as it makes it fun to have different places. Went on a Sunday, a guy named Amaud I think made sure all was clean (people… take away your weights…) and had great energy. Will def come back.

Ps: some people who complain below should have simply asked for a trial session or to visit before joining the gym because he described exactly the equinox social superficial experience and yes it’s not for everybody :D

Ps: The meditation lady who is also sometimes at Hudon yards is very obnoxious, faking niceness and using too spiritual wording for a non religious place...

One of the nicest Equinox locations I've been to. It was recently renovated, and it shows. The locker rooms are very nice, albeit a bit crowded. Definitely well located, too. Right in the middle of all of the West Village action.

Least favorite of all the Equinoxes. Leah at The Shop should also pay attention at her job, she is, after all an employee of the brand.

To make matters worse, their manager promised if I pay with my card, he will later refund me and charge the gift card that Leah used for herself at the gift shop. And of course, that never happened.

probably one of the nicest gyms i’ve ever worked out at but sometimes the equipment isn’t cleaned to the point where your clothes will literally pick up dust (god forbid you wear all black like me) and stuff like that is really unacceptable for how much it costs to be a member here. Also the men’s locker room never has face wash or face moisturizer which is annoying because even the non destination locations have them

Pathetic place, travelling from London I wanted to grab a protein shake as a meal replacement... The shake bar is right inside the door (before any barriers) but the guy at the front desk went out of his way to block me from getting it because I'm not a member there... Surely just acting against the economic interests of the investors at that point. No high end gym in London would stop you buying food/drink if not a member, maybe they would have a different pricing tier at most. Really quite a pretentious and elitist vibe... For a gym... Not a gold vault.

I started working out again at this location on Greenwich Avenue after a long absence and totally loving it. The new design of the lobby and each of the floors makes it a really beautiful and energizing space for working out and the views are incredible. Also it is an incredibly interesting range of people working out and attending classes. I'm already making new friends and even went on a date. The classes are also almost always available on short notice and the trainers for the classes are incredible. And the pool is beautifully maintained. And the managers and staff are also incredibly nice and professional and always have a smile on their faces. It almost feels like a second home and I'm loving it.

Smarmy…

I signed up for swimming lessons with a trainer. Things were going good but had to cancel my session on the several days before leaving town because some stuff came up I had to take care of and they charged me anyway. They even charged me for the next week after that and the week after that even though the trainer never cleared it with me first that we would wven be having a session.

Unbeknownst to me I was signed up for a subscription service I didnt even know existed until I was rage going through the app to figure out how to unlink my card until I could find out what the hell was going on. I didnt even know a subscription training service was an option. I wouldve gladly used it quite frankly. I was planning to buy a package deal… but now not until after im refunded for those two sessions as an acknowledgment.

Im pissed off. Equinox is legitimately the best gym but dont sign up for training its a cash grab scam pure and simple. They will find a way to overcharge you for services you didnt recieve. Then when you tell them about it they dont refind the money. They say theyll make it up to you by giving you a session. NO. Put the money back in my account first. Then we can talk about moving forward.

Ill update this review if we are able to come to a satisfactory resolution. Be careful and make sure Equinox does not sign you up to programs without your expressed written consent.

Came to grab a juice but the man working there said it was only for members. LOL. Okay, I guess my money isn't green enough for their establishment. For the record, I am a member at Tracy Anderson which is even more exclusive than you guys and considering they charge more than you do, they would definitely allow a random person to buy drinks from them. Being exclusive and kind are two different things. They are the equivalent to Target and I wouldn't even workout there if you paid me.

Overpriced, Unprofessional, and Poorly Designed

I recently joined this gym, hoping for a solid place to get my fitness routine back on track, but it’s been a huge letdown. Between the outrageous prices, poor design, and an environment that feels more like a photo shoot than a place to work out, I won’t be renewing my membership.

First off, the design of the gym is terrible. The layout feels cramped and inefficient, -and its a 4 story gym... go figure!

The locker rooms are another nightmare. Instead of being a place to get changed quickly and move on with your day, they’ve become a social media hotspot. People spend hours in the locker rooms, sitting around, taking pictures, and recording videos for Instagram. It’s not just a quick snap here and there—these people are practically living in the locker room, blocking the benches and making it impossible to change or even have some privacy. The staff seems completely oblivious to this issue, which only adds to the frustration.

They are too afraid to say anything because of the "extreme progressive movement" or blasted on social media and being cancelled.

And let’s not even get started on the pricing. This gym is far too expensive for what it offers. it feels like you're paying for a lot of fluff rather than real value. I could find a much better gym for half the price, where the equipment is more spaced out, the environment is focused on fitness, and I’m not paying for the privilege of having to fight for space or avoid selfie culture in the locker room.

Overall, this gym is a total waste of money. Poorly designed, overpriced, and with zero regard for creating a serious workout environment, it’s not worth the hype. If you’re serious about your fitness goals, I suggest you save your money and find somewhere else that actually cares about its members.

“Terrible Experience – Adrea and Equinox Greenwich Ave Are a Complete Scam!”

I had a Hydrafacial done with Adrea at Equinox Greenwich Ave, and it was hands-down the WORST facial experience of my life. I informed her multiple times beforehand that I have sensitive skin and needed her to be cautious. Despite this, she applied way too much pressure with the suction wand, leaving me with severe redness, irritation, and even scarring. This is completely unacceptable for a service that is supposed to be gentle and marketed as safe for sensitive skin.

During the facial, I expressed my discomfort and brought up that my skin was becoming increasingly red and irritated. Instead of addressing the issue or adjusting her technique, Adrea dismissed my concerns and blamed my skin for being “too sensitive.” This kind of unprofessionalism is appalling, especially from someone representing Equinox, which prides itself on luxury services.

I have had countless Hydrafacials before at other places and NEVER experienced a reaction like this. It is clear that Adrea lacks the skill and care to perform this treatment properly.

Equinox, as a whole, is an outrageously overpriced scam. They charge obscene amounts for services and yet clearly don’t care about their customers. The level of disregard for my experience—both during the session and in its aftermath—is shocking. For what they charge, I expected far better treatment and professionalism. Instead, I was met with recklessness, dismissiveness, and damage to my skin.

I am demanding a full refund for this disaster of a facial. Equinox needs to reevaluate both its staff and its approach to customer service because this is unacceptable. I strongly urge anyone considering their spa services to stay far away. Equinox is all flash and no substance—you’re paying for their ego, not actual quality or care.

Equinox Greenwich Avenue is widely recognized as NYC’s top gay gym, offering an atmosphere that’s unmatched in inclusivity and LGBTQ+ pride. This isn’t just a gym; it’s a space where LGBTQ+ members can workout freely, relax in the immaculate locker rooms and steam room, and feel completely at ease among like-minded individuals. The vibe here is distinct and vibrant, a true community setting where members find both fitness and camaraderie.

Straight men, if you’re truly open-minded and comfortable in an environment where hot gay guys might flirt just as naturally as anyone would at any other gym, you’ll fit right in. Otherwise, there are plenty of other gyms in NYC! For those who value an inclusive, respectful, and fun vibe, this place is a true gem. 🏳️‍🌈💪

Experiencing Equinox for the first time on a guest pass was a memorable occasion. While I was inclined to award a perfect rating, I withheld one star due to the noticeable wear and tear on some of the equipment. However, this minor flaw was overshadowed by the overall excellence of my visit. The front desk staff exuded warmth and hospitality, creating an inviting atmosphere from the moment I arrived. Navigating the gym was seamless, even during peak hours, as there was ample equipment available, ensuring the space never felt overcrowded. I eagerly anticipate beginning my membership and making Equinox a regular part of my routine.

Drove over to get a açaí bow. I then learned that the juice generation that was previously open to the public is not private for all members. I was surprised and asked when did this happen. The very rude girl at the front desk said since the renovation. Then asked since we drove here out of our way without the knowledge of the change can we get a smoothie. She certainly very condescendingly and rudely said oh no but you can go to another one. Ok then my friend asked about shopping in the store. She said oh you can go shop there. Management, Shame on how your staff treat locals. Major training required. Both girls were equally rude in their demeanor.

Update 02-03-24

This place has really gone off the rails. No climate control to keep the place cool when needed. Like today. Open a door on the roof and let these people breath again. The humidity is always high inside here. Turn the AC on to remove the humidity in the air. Simple. It's always crowded now too. All the machines are full all the weekends and afternoons from me asking other friends who visit more often. The price you're charging is rediclous for what's happening. Cold showers all the time. You need bigger water heaters. People sitting on phones at machines not working out. Like do somtjing people be motivated!! Get an updated app that tells me how many people are in the club at any given time too. Please make changes to this location. You are in desperate need of this. Look at your recent reviews. Not good.

Original post was a 5 star review few years ago.

Update, things have changed. Trash outside not been picked up for weeks now. Broken glass and cigarette butts by the back door haven't been cleaned up. Got kicked out of the steam room at 10am and the guy says I don't care to me about it? Bad day? There is better ways to deal with needed to clean without hindering the use of the room. Idk what's going on but things have declined recently here. Hoping that they can figure it out.

This place went so downhill, despite all their reconstruction and “upgrades”.
Given this location is now a destination club, they could at least listen to their members feedback sometimes & actually improve few simple things. Such as:

Have face wash available by the sinks - that antibacterial soap in the dispenser is soo harsh and ultra drying!!! It’s making things worse, by compromising the skin barrier, this is well known fact..

Clean the water fountains!!! I would never ever refill my water bottle in any of these (across ALL EQ locations!), as they are gross, covered in mildew and no one cares!!! Mentioned this multiple times, with no effect

Actually clean the mats with disinfectant after classes…you know how many times I’ve seen the cleaning staff to roll up sweaty mats and put them neatly back on the shelf?? They yet replaced the ones that are used in group fitness studio, and those can’t be rolled up, thank god

The music in classes is soo obnoxiously loud, most instructors turn it up to unhealthy levels (above 90db, as per my Apple Watch)

So, I’ve got a sizzling tale from the sauna for you. It seems every time I head into the steam room to get my glow on, I’ve unintentionally turned it into a flirt fest – and trust me, it’s not my dazzling double-towel look that’s catching eyes!

The mustachioed gentlemen, with their debonair charm, can't resist dropping a line or two. While I’m all for making friends and getting to know fellow members, the steam room might not be the ideal place for that kind of...heated exchange. 😉

I’m all about embracing our fabulous selves and letting our true colors shine, but maybe we could add a pinch of decorum in the sauna? A playful sign, perhaps? “Steam room: Where we keep it hot, but not too hot to trot!”

Keep rocking and let’s keep the steam room saucy in the right ways!

Stay fabulous.

I've been a member of Equinox (UWS) for over year now and in general have been pleased with my experience. Julie at the 76th St. location was so helpful and accommodating when I transitioned to the club. I'm a public school teacher who works in the village at a school just a block away from the Greenwich Avenue location, and I recently inquired about upgrading my membership since it would be very convenient for work. I don't get any corporate discounts but consider this a splurge worth taking since I'm dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and have had such a great experience in the UWS locations. I was informed I'd have to pay $250 to make this upgrade because of the "summer rush." While I'm happy to pay the extra fee to use this club, I was really taken aback by this superfluous add on and their refusal to work with a public school teacher in the community (especially when it seems that many people in that neighborhood actually leave town during the summer). I expected a more welcoming/accommodating approach, and it really leaves me questioning the values of this club and whether it's time move on.

Just moved to the area and tried out many gyms. This Equinox location charges $300 per month but has the same janky "Life Fitness" equipment as the Planet Fitness on 14th St ($10/month)... Is this a joke? Equinox was also totally overcrowded, I don't know who can work out in these conditions.

Don't waste your money at Equinox. If you want a real luxury gym, Life Time on 23rd is the place to go: much bigger, less crowded, super modern equipment with touchscreens on every machine, sauna, steam room, and price is only $200/month.

The Whole Equinox Review:
Atmosphere & Amenities Will Bring You Higher

2 Minutes Read

Simply: It's Worth Your Health

Intro: Grew up in the city, have tried multiple gyms around the city (and world) and I care about my health. Equinox is my choice gym for anyone with the drive and time. I enjoyed every part of the experience, classes, pool, spa, gym, staff... I took it all in

Why Equinox:
- Multiple Locations Throughout City (usability depends on membership)
- Best Trainer's & Instructors in the city (Extreme confidence)
- Class Variety (Yoga, Pilates, Barre, Dance..........)
- Great facilities and ALWAYS clean
- Great customer Service
- Clientele will push you harder (some of the most fit people in the city)

Some baulk at the price. If you cannot afford it, it's not for you. I make no where near 6 figures, but I worked it out. My health is important to me and I made sure to go every single day, and often twice a day. If you can be pushed to your health goals given money spent. Argument is that the long term health benefits outweigh the yearly cost. Health is wealth.

Steps To Take:
- Tour Your closest equinox
- See if it's for you
- Go
To Classes, To The Gym, To the Pool, Spa etc.

Compared To Other Gyms:
- Blink - Sister Gym with significantly less benefits, no classes 1/10 price
- Planet Fitness - Trash gym 1/10 price
- Crunch - 1/3 Price, less benefits, crazy start fees
- YMCA - 5 year member in youth - subpar facilities 1/6 price

This gym is not worth it if:
- You just use the treadmill, or other machines
- You only lift weights
- Don't use the facilities
- Don't go >4 times a week

Avoid the ridiculous enrollment fees with what ever promos are available or simply ask for them.

Stay healthy

Absolutely not worth the $320+ monthly fee. Went there for a year and feel like I threw money out of the window: there's nothing in that gym that remotely justifies such a price point. I have no issue paying premium prices for premium services, but that's the thing: this gym is not premium, it's just normal at best (I would even argue that it's below average: gym is constantly overcrowded, classes are always full even when you try to book in advance, there's regular hot water shortages in the showers, one shower has been broken for over 6 weeks and still not repaired, razors are so cheap they leave red marks all over your skin, opening hours are very limited esp. on weekends, etc). Don't waste your money and go to TMPL a couple blocks away: a quarter of the price for a similar facility and better service.

My boyfriend got me a prenatal massage for Mother’s Day at the spa located at this equinox. Front desk was welcoming upon arrival. My master therapist was Danera (I believe her name is) and let’s just say….Amazing. She checked on me before hand to see what would make me more comfortable( I used the belly pillow which I highly suggest btw). She questioned me to see where exactly the pain was so she can target those areas and then got straight to it. It was an 80 min massage and she used all 80 minutes to get every nook and cranny. It was exactly what I needed. She was so kind and friendly and front desk was very helpful at checkout. I would recommend.

Management at this specific club is obnoxious and self-important, lousy customer service. I went to use the Greenwich Avenue location as my Equinox had a facility issue and was instead rudely told I could not use it because I did not have the “appropriate membership” even the communication from my Equinox club said we could use any neighborhood club.
The manager could not care less!!

I absolutely love this location. I like how the machines are organized as well as it makes sense when I do back to back super sets. I love the new machines and renovations as well. The staff is constantly striving for cleanliness and is very attentive of small details. It’s a very peaceful quiet gym, but like any location, it is to be expected to deal with many people especially in the lockers during rush hour. Over all, people seem to be in great spirits at this location opposed to others where I’ve experienced extremely rude entitlement by members.

I normally go to another Equinox but wanted to try out a new class here. The men’s locker room is closed for two months and their solution was to move to lockers to the pool deck. There’s nowhere for men to shower, change or shave save for the unisex toilet on the pool deck. Incidentally, the pool deck is moldy.

I liked working out here 4-years ago when I moved to NYC. This location is definitely a has-been premium brand in decline. Within the past 2 weeks all the lighting has been replaced with hard, white-hot fluorescent lights like you would find in a Wal-mart. It's horrible! Several times recently, way before closing, the surly floor managers turn off all the TVs in the cardio area to make members leave early, so the floor managers can go home. But, make no mistake, your $220/month dues go up every year. It's no longer worth the price. The value is gone.

7 months ago, when I complained about the new harsh, overly bright LED lighting, Gregory Kershaw – General Manager said, “We’re currently in the first phase of the installation, then the team will walk the club and review dimming capability to ensure the correct balance is struck for space lighting”. The first problem with that reply is that LED lighting cannot be dimmed, unless electrical switches are also replaced. After 7 months, I went back to see if the “lighting adjustment” actually happened. Gregory lied. The only change was that the new harsh lighting has also been installed everywhere … lobby, locker rooms … everywhere. The club already looked dated before the new lights, but at least it had a nice balanced designer look (from the 90s). With the new LED lights all interior design has now been wiped out. The lights are so bright, the club now looks trashy, worn out and a relic of the last century. Some new equipment has been added, but without any thought about placement or workout areas. New equipment just dumped into any random area. The second floor has all equipment now crammed into one corner so tightly you are practically touching anybody working out nearby. The entire experience is gross. On a Sunday afternoon the club was surprisingly packed. Why do people pay $225 per month for this experience? The only reason the lighting was changed is so management can squeeze more profit out of your outrageously expensive monthly dues. You can join Crunch for $95 per month, with space to work out and good lighting. Or, the brand new David Barton luxury gym in the Village for less than $200 per month. Read all the negative reviews about Equinox Greenwich. There is not one decent response from management. They no longer care about the Equinox brand or the customer. It’s sad really. The decline of the brand is real and obviously management is just trying to milk it for cash while they still can.

25yard swimming pool, 3 lanes. Unfortunately the water is pretty murky, doesnt make the best impression. The life guards only sit around and dont help to enforce a bit swim etiquette or mediate for lane sharing the way they do it on the UES.
Rest of gym has natural light, its not newish but also not too dated yet.

Large equinox location. Has a pool at this location and tons of cardio equipment that are internet enabled. Nice studios, including a spin studio. In the lobby is a Juice Generation and a retail store. Plenty of helpful trainers but they don’t follow you around like in some gyms an try and insert themselves if you seem content. It’s always buzzing here but I’ve never had an issue finding space for my workout.

Save your money. I had a short membership but found this place to be a racket. It’s crowded and there is a sense of ‘gymitation.’ The front desk staff are somewhat nice but are superficial and never seem to really want to chat and get to know you. I feel like this place is just a status symbol. If I need to stroke my ego then I can just buy an equinox hat or shirt and say I’m a member of equinox!

The gym is nice, spacious and gets a lot of natural light. The problem is that it's always VERY crowded before and after work. Personal trainers and their clients use a lot of the equipment during peak times. They tend to use several pieces of equipment at once and some won’t let you work in. This makes it hard to workout effectively. I've been booted from equipment that looked free only to have a trainer or their client tell me they were using it. I emailed the manager about this 2x and never got a reply. That gives me the impression that they don’t really care. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This used to be my Equinox of choice, but it is probably the most crowded one. The locker rooms are nice, but it is practically a sardine can anywhere near rush hour.

The different floors of the gym are OK: the weight training is a little cramped and always have to wait. That said, it's still a beautiful facility.

The front desk staff don’t know the definition of the word customer or the word service. Atrocious doesn’t even approximate how bad the customer service is—even by Taco Bell standards. Avoid this location if at all possible. Go to High Line, Soho or Bond Street. For a pool go to Columbus Circle or 63rd and Lexington. All five of those locations are head and shoulders above Greenwich.

Equinox is a great brand, but this location could definitely be managed better. As many of the other reviews have stated, equipment is often not in the same place day-to-day, and the staff isn't always glad to see you. Because the issues are minor, I will keep coming here due to location convenience -- but they would certainly garner more customer loyalty by keeping an eye on the employee culture and the energy in the room throughout the day.

I've been a member for a couple of years, and even though its one of the most expensive gym memberships out there, the service lacks. I always need to look for jump ropes. They are never in its place! When you go to the 3rd floor office to ask for jump ropes, the staff just tells you where to look. For the price i pay, i expect to go to the gym and go through my work out sessions without delays. I shouldn't have to spend time looking for equipment. They have plenty of staff lingering around the floor looking at people. Also the jump rope quality is terrible.

Average facilities for equinox, arrogant and unhelpful staff, mediocre cleanliness. Go to Bond Street for a proper equinox.
