I don’t write reviews often because people have to earn them from me. My Equinox coach at Orchard Street, Jason Ihli, earned this testimonial from me.
I’m not someone who likes sales pitches. When I did my Equifit and the CPT session with Jason, I was cautious. I didn’t want to be just a statistic. If I’m paying serious cash, I expect real quality and effort. In that first CPT, Jason proved he knew exactly what he was doing. Nothing gimmicky, just skill, attention, and intention. I left thinking he either knew exactly how to coach or he just hypnotized me with that big confidence. I don’t know, maybe he just has impressive charm, maybe he really was telling the truth about his knowledge, or maybe it’s Maybelline. Whatever it was convinced me to sign up for two sessions a week.
I’ve always wanted to gain weight and get stronger, but I never pushed myself to start. Last year I was in a car accident, and that made fitness more complicated. I didn’t just want to get bigger anymore, I wanted to recover my shoulder and finally build the body I wished for before the pain got worse. The sharp pain in my right labrum made me think the gym would only make things worse. I signed up anyway because I wanted to see if I could rebuild myself through my own version of physical therapy. That didn’t happen.
Instead, Jason made me a program to incorporate strength training with shoulder recovery. He found safer angles, smarter movements, and alternate ways to hit the same muscles without irritating the injury. He paid so much attention that I joked he knew my shoulder better than any doctor I saw, which is funny because none of them ever diagnosed my shoulder correctly. I ended up understanding my own injury through Jason, and for the first time since the accident I felt like getting stronger was possible because I finally understood what precautions to take.
And just so it doesn’t sound like I’m hyping him up without proof, I have the numbers to back it up. My first InBody scan had me at 127.7 pounds with 64.8 pounds of muscle. 96 days later, my next scan showed 135.9 pounds with 68.8 pounds of muscle. That’s over 8 pounds gained with 4 of those being pure muscle. Jason told me most beginners only put on 1-3 pounds of muscle in that time frame, and that’s without an injury. I managed 4 because of him. He kept my body fat steady, guided me through clean weight gain, worked around my shoulder limitations, and programmed training that made my metabolism rise as my lean mass climbed. The progress is real, measurable, and it happened fast because he knew how to get me there.
Three months from when I started, I’m stronger, more confident, and understand how to train the right way. Jason taught me real form, consistency, and how to push myself safely. He teaches with intention and patience. He notices every detail and reads the way I’m moving before I even say anything. He also survives my dramatic commentary during workouts, especially when I start spiraling about not measuring up to the attractive people around me. He always shuts it down by telling me I’m already there and only getting better. He coaches with a focus you feel even when he’s just adjusting your position, and it makes you want to push heavy and hard.
I can confidently work out on my own now because of everything he taught me, but I still choose to train with him because there are still times where I feel like I’m just a boy trying to figure out how to play with the toys in the room despite everything he’s taught me. But he’s not just a coach. He’s personable, reliable, easy to talk to, and makes you feel like you belong in the room. He shows up every time, pays attention, and genuinely cares about your progress. Twice a week with him is something I look forward to, despite how damn expensive it is, someone should change that.
Overall, I enjoy being his client and hope he gets the recognition he deserves. If anyone is looking for a trainer who understands real goals, limitations, and growth, Jason is the one.

I had a great experience with the Aescape robot massage. It was super relaxing and I was pleasantly surprised how close to a human massage it felt. The screen guides the experience so you don't feel unsure about what is coming next, and you have full control over music, massage focus areas and massage pressure. I'll definitely be doing this again and would recommend it!

Really enjoyed my experience with Equinox from their needs assessment to the cleanliness of the location itself. Stand outs are the robot massage (unique to this location apparently?) , the view for people watching when stretching, the friendliness and helpfulness of the membership person Sean (I even recommended some friends). Overall this gym tries hard to create a great experience and the classes are some of the best I've taken in my life . Extremely skilled instructors and personal trainers quickly demonstrate the value as well. The sauna and option for laundry service really sealed the deal. And for those skeptical of a robot massage, at least try it before you write it off...

Frauded me. Worst customer service I’ve ever received. I was gifted a month of free laundry as an incentive to sign up. I never received the laundry service after asking multiple times and then when I ended my membership I was charged for the laundry service. I called and emailed several times asking for help and no one ever got back to me. I expected better customer service from Equinox.

Stopped in to check out this new Aescape Robotic Massage everyone is talking about . Found it at the closest Equinox to me . You book it on their website for $60 for 30 mins and you have full access to the gym as well. I decided to do the Full Body and Glutes and it was so worth it. The first ever all robotic massage , AMAZING!!

Very bad experience, not really sure what is supposed to be the appeal of this company.
They rely on lies to get you to sign up for a membership, then make it nearly impossible to cancel. When I signed up I was told I would get a free month because of the referral I signed up with, that was a lie. I was told that I would have multi gym access because the locker room was under construction, that was a lie.
The equipment is worse than the $10/mo planet fitness I used to go to in michigan and it is inconveniently crowded most of the time. Also, men frequently cruise in the steam room--really gross and unsanitary.
They are refusing to cancel my membership now, it's really weird and this place in general seems like a scam. Sometimes things that are more expensive are worse, eh?
I recommend staying away from this company and gym and going literally anywhere else.

Another member (middle age middle eastern woman) here constantly harasses me, accuses me of stealing her belongings and makes indecent comments about my clothing, and is always staring when I’m just trying to work out. Mind you, I dress like every other woman there. This has been happening since March, and I’ve reported her to management (specifically Anthony and Robert) several times yet there has been no progress on the situation… given I pay so much, the disregard is absolutely insane to me.

I’ve heard good things about this location before and I can now confirm — this is a really nice Equinox club with tasteful decoration and cool little details. I particularly like the large windows on the 2nd floor, the ones at the corner of Orchard Street and Houston Street. Good spot to people watch while stretching or doing your core exercises. Locker room is spacious and clean. Hoping to take a class here at some point to check out the studio space, and to see if the instructors are good, but already an awesome location to add to my rotation.

I’m not sure whose idea it was to close down the Women’s locker room at The Orchard Location for 10 weeks and not tell anyone until a day before. This is a terrible, TERRIBLE inconvenience Equinox has provided and really sucks - and having all access to some clubs isn’t the way to handle the situation. Shame on you Equinox.

The only reason you should get this gym is locational convenience of having multiple locations in manhattan. There is no other reason for this gym. I've worked out at almost every equinox in lower Manhattan. This one is by far the worst with unprofessional staff and men's locker rooms that are almost never clean or properly stocked in the evening. Their p.a. system for announcements has been broken for months and this is a gym that charges 300$ a month.

I like this gym, but man the front desk girls are mostly (not all) rude and extremely stuck up, the people at crunch or planet fitness are nicer, someone teach these stuck up girls to smile. It’s almost they hire the most frustrated bunch, when there is a guy at the front desk once in a while they are usually nice, always gets me in a bad mood when I see these girls at the front desk and how terrible they are

The gym itself is fine, however the membership management is terrible. I have been trying to cancel my membership for over two months. I have gone in person and sent several emails on this subject and stopped receiving responses. I’m outside any contractual agreement and should be able to cancel my membership at anytime.
I have referred several friends to join this club but will not be doing this in future.

This Equinox is great with its amenities and awesome trainers. For me, the trainer that stands out the most is Bret. I appreciate her skillset and her abilities. She really is knowledgeable and she has helped me improve my form and flexibility. One of the highlights of working with her is that she will help you with assisted stretching, which really prepares me for a workout and helps my muscles recover. I just moved to the city and was referred to Equinox Gym on Orchard Street by a friend of mine. One of the workers Bret, is one of the employees who’s a personal stretch assistant, and is dedicated to all her clients that request her and will make you feel refreshed and energized prior working out or after. Bret was very detailed oriented with what stretching techniques she was gonna perform so i don’t get a muscle strain. She’s one of the best employees who helped me save money with her recovery stretch courses compared to the spa prices and I look forward to going to her before or after my workout routine.

Since reopening from the pandemic shutdown the gym has gone downhill in terms of maintenance and cleanliness. Equipment is often out of service or falling into disrepair and paint is chipping from the ceilings in the bathroom. There are often towels and water bottles that are left around the facility for consecutive days on end. At least the staff are friendly.
Additionally, I don’t like the tracking of personal data that occurs on the Equinox+ app. When you use the contactless check-in method Equinox tracks your location throughout the facility using the Bluetooth beacons built into the Cisco wireless access points. This is creepy. Additionally if I turn on ad blocking on my iPhone the app will not load. For $200+ a month Equinox should be paying me to harvest my data or at least give me an opt out feature. 🤡

This LES Orchard St. location is great. Very clean, great workout equipment / classes and the women's lockers/showers are always clean. LOVE THE STEAM ROOM, wish they had a Sauna at all locations. Staff is very professional and kind. I do wish some of the MEMBERS there were more respectful of others and cleaned up after themselves. Too many leave their used towels laying around on benches and floor, when there are bins in several places to put them, forcing the already busy associates to have to also clean up after them. Their staff is always on top of it.

Still in shock that Rachel, the manager, called me after I tried to get a day to check it out again since I hadn’t been in more than a year (see how crowded it gets now, etc. before becoming a member again), and then she called me being rude to try to get me to sign up for 2 months. It was so weird. Like is that a technique at Equinox, to get people to sign up by being plain rude? I wanted to hang up immediately but I let the woman speak and it only got more hostile and annoying. Why would I sign up? There are other beautiful gyms in the lower east side that treat their potential customers and customers with respect. Worst sales person I’ve ever talked to.

Rude “greeting” staff. I’m an all access member and by far this has been the rudest welcome I’ve experienced across NY and SF. I checked in and walked up to this lady at the front desk. And she asked me a blunt “what”? Not “you’re all checked in”, or anything of the sort. Gave less than helpful directions to the locker though the lady at the store was way more helpful and courteous (which is why I gave 2 stars and not just 1).

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME/MONEY HERE!!!!!!!
As someone who has visited multiple Equinox locations in New York, I have to say this particular location lacks the quality that you would expect for a gym that costs over $250 (and increasingly more...) a month. There is constantly a lack of towels available during peak hours. The lockers are not always clean. The soap is sometimes watered down as a means to reduce their costs. The steam room isn't always turned on as a means to reduce their costs. The machines are not maintained, as many of them show clear signs of aging. Yet, they're raising their rates every year, claiming to be "committed to delivering exceptional experiences". In reality, they're just doing the absolute bare minimum. Avoid going to this gym at all costs!
P.S. See below for their automated response to any negative feedback.

EQUITOX Orchard will do a vacuum-cleaner trick on your credit card. DON'T SIGN UP IF YOU EVER PLAN TO TRAVEL. They messed up my membership freeze / re-activation, so I ended up pre-charged while STILL being denied entry. They wouldn't adjust or even allow me to speak to a "manager". Contract allows them to deny that they did anything wrong, while still charging for months. This location is overbooked and terribly mismanaged, constant staff turnover, and zero managers at the helm. Only salespeople.

Have to agree with some of the other reviews about rude staff at this location. I am looking for a gym and decided to trial this location after checking out Bond Street, which has friendly staff and a beautiful facility.
The receptionist was shockingly rude. At $265+ per month you’d think the least they can do is hire qualified staff. Do yourself a favor and go to TMPL or walk further to hit Bond St.

As a long-time member of Equinox, I can confidently say that the Equinox Gym on Orchard Street is one of the best fitness facilities I have ever been to. I have been attending this location for a year and a half now, and the quality of service and amenities has only continued to impress me.
One of the standout features of this gym is the front desk staff. They are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making every visit a pleasure. Their professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond are a testament to the high standards set by Equinox.
The group fitness instructors at this location are also exceptional. I have had the pleasure of taking classes with David Robert, Stephen Bel Davies, Bransen Gates, and Natasha Ross, and they are all top-notch. They bring energy and expertise to every class, making the workouts challenging and enjoyable.
One thing that sets this gym apart is how clean and well-maintained it is. Even during peak hours, the facilities are always spotless, thanks to the hard work of the cleaning staff. It's clear that the staff takes great pride in keeping the gym clean and hygienic.
Overall, I highly recommend Equinox Gym on Orchard Street to anyone looking for a world-class fitness facility. As a long-time Equinox member, I can attest that this gym lives up to the high standards of the Equinox brand. The friendly staff, exceptional instructors, and pristine facilities make every visit a pleasure.
HOWEVER, it would be nice to have some 17.5 weights in the group fitness room, the jump from 15 to 20 lbs can be a bit too much for some people!!! Safety first!

I moved to the LES recently and was excited to find a gym close by to get back in shape. I spoke with an employee that works in memberships who offered me a a couple days trial to check it out. Right away I noticed how unprofessional it was that not all employees were masked. The front desk is downstairs though and I hoped that maybe they were the only people who were oblivious to the current trends in thé Covid spike. I kept my n95 on the whole time. The next time i went in, there were a couple of different employees not wearing masks, but I was already upstairs getting ready for a class. I had my mask on and had been recently boosted so I hoped I would be okay. Three days later I tested positive for covid. I had only seen three people that week all of which tested negative so I decided to call and let equinox know. When I got them on the phone i said « hello there i was at equinox on Wednesday and I wanted to inform you of my current Covid status » and the front desk person said « ok thanks » and hung up. I will never be back.

I signed up with a 'covid special' that meant I could cancel after three months. I insisted I got it in writing, so the sales rep sent me an email stating as such. The manager Danielle wanted me to sign a twelve-month credit card authorization contract; when I pointed out that it was twelve months, and I had only committed to three, she continued to pressure me to sign it -- even going so far as to deny that it was for twelve months (when it is clearly written in their two-page contract). Anyway, of course, when I try to leave the gym after nine months, they say I'm not allowed. I sent them an email revoking payment authorization, got no response, and they still tried to charge me for the next month. I'm pretty sure they'll send a credit collector after me. This company is totally unethical, and I would avoid it at all costs.

I’ve been coming here to lift early in the afternoon lately (1:30-3:00). It’s pretty empty even when I arrive. I’m used to there being lines for the showers at Midtown Equinoxes around 1:30. Not here. It’s small, especially the men’s locker room, so maybe there’s an early evening crush, but midday is chill.
The workout space is arranged over two floors, both with great natural light. What sets this EQ apart are two large stretching areas (take note, SoHo!!), eliminating the need to fart in someone’s face in order to stretch!

The staff is very nice. Though, not clean compared to other equinox clubs - locker room has dirt on the floors. They host classes on the treadmills in the regular workout area. Seen multiple trainers on FaceTime in the locker room. Very crowded in peak hours compared to other equinox clubs.

The Bond Street location is superior and worth the 10 minutes of additional walking.
This Orchard Street gym unfortunately suffers from inattentive staff, overcapacity, and inconsiderate members.

Out of all the Equinox locations in the city this is the worst one. The bathrooms are never clean and when you try to speak to the manager Melissa about it, she just blows you off. Thanks for helping me make my decision to cancel my membership, all thanks to your lack of customer service.

Very nice hotel gym but quite small and crowded. Not enough equipment for the amount of members that work out here during rush hour. Aesthetically nice and good for a quick workout but not as expansive or equipped for daily use.

Different layout than other eqx locations. But somehow I still come here, not a bad thing tho! Juice press at entrance, coat check available, everything is pretty close to each other but at a good distance. Staff is nice and friendly, clean too, never had any issue.

Tiny! Barely has the equipment you’d expect from an Equinox. More like a nice hotel gym than anything.

Staff works hard to keep the place clean and moving. I enjoy spending time here, there's a decent class offering, and there's all the equipment I need to work out. Gym is slightly on the smaller side but I don't have too much of an issue getting to the machines/racks I need to get a workout done in a reasonable amount of time.

One of the newest locations, can feel quite sterile at times. Yet wide variety of brand new machines, and gorgeous group fitness studios.

Great new Equinox, seems a little small but that's what you get for the LES. Very few squat racks.

It's a very nice hotel gym. Not enough equipment to be considered a high performance gym. I would recommend walking the extra few blocks to equinox Soho or Bond St. That said it is very clean with very friendly staff.
