Never any towels in the mens' locker room, steam room is not working and sounds an alarm every five minutes making it impossible to use steam room/ sauna facilities because of the noise. More than half the showers are not working. Terrible conditions. Not worth the extra membership fees for this supposedly "higher tier" gym. Should be downgraded.

I both work and work out at this location, and while there are definitely some strong points, the recent experience has become increasingly frustrating.
⸻
The Good
• Gym facilities: The workout areas are solid and well-equipped.
• Crowd: Generally decent atmosphere, not overly chaotic.
• Bistro prices: Surprisingly reasonable compared to typical Equinox pricing.
⸻
The Issues
• Renovation chaos: The ongoing renovations have become borderline unmanageable. At times, you have to wait around completely unclothed just to get a shower spot. Last night, there were no towels in the men’s shower area, causing everyone to walk upstairs dripping wet to find some. It felt like a complete breakdown of basic operations.
• Elevator problems: One of the elevators is out almost daily—either the building entrance elevator or the one leading to the workout floors. A few weeks ago, members had to enter and exit through the emergency exit because both were down. That’s unacceptable at this price point.
• Spa / wet area:
• The jacuzzi is fine, but some members use it fully naked, which makes the space uncomfortable for others.
• The steam room feels outdated and overdue for a full upgrade.
• The sauna is decent but nothing special.
• Workspace crowding: There’s very limited seating throughout the day. Many people seem to hold memberships primarily to use the club as a coworking space, but even they are starting to leave because the environment has become so inconvenient.
⸻
Bottom Line
This club is significantly overpriced for the current state of operations. With the scale of the renovations and constant service disruptions, Equinox should consider offering additional guest passes, membership credits, or other concessions to acknowledge the inconvenience members are dealing with on a daily basis.

Sports and space? Yes. Ugly office-style overhead lights and segmented weightlifting rooms? Also yes.

I do like this gym overall, but to pay over $300/month and half the showers are broken and the steam room is down is kind of crazy. Showers have been broken for literally MONTHS. The Manager should see this as completely unacceptable. You can’t be a luxury gym and not keep your basic facilities in tact.

The equipments are good but the staff are not so great. The costumer service is one of the weaknesses of this place. My husband and I signed up a few months ago and at the time nobody including the person who was signing us up told us about their promotion rate.
Also A few times I needed the staff to open the locker for me since for some wired reason they lock sometimes and after so many back and forth and tolerating attitudes it takes them half an hour to open the locker.
Overall not so happy. Should be better especially with the amount of money that we pay every month.

I had an experience that left me angry to be honest.
I was told to leave multiple times at 9:45, the club closes at 10 pm.
The guy won’t move from besides me until I leave the floor, I told him that the closing time for showers is 9:45 and the club at 10 (wasn’t taking shower today, I didn’t even bring backpack or anything) I was just planning on finishing my workout and he out of the gym at 9:58, I never stay later than the close time, ever.
Anyway I couldn’t finish my workout I only had one set left to end it, so I left angry but I had to follow the “orders” and I was never disrespectful, but I felt disrespected. When coming I told the girl in the front desk my dissatisfaction and she told me “it’s always been that way, we close at 9:45”, which is a complete lie, and if that’s the case just put in the google opening times that it closes at 9:45, this never happened to me before in almost 5 years of membership.
I understand it’s a weekend and they want to leave early, but I’m not paying a cheap membership fee to be told to leave 15 min early.

(edit: somehow they got even worse since I posted the first review)
Absurdly overpriced for the quality of equipment and facilities. One of the elevators (only way to get into the club) is almost always broken. Equipment is old. They literally hide resistance bands for public use (what type of gym charges $365 a month but hides proper resistance bands??) There are infinitely better gyms (Vital, Grind House, TMPL) at half the price point throughout the city if you’re serious about fitness. On top of all that, management are absolutely terrible human beings and should be ashamed of how they treat their staff.
Left this terrible institution for something far better.

I've been going to this location for 2 years. I love the facility, how spacious it is, and the fact that it's got a great sized sauna. I think Equinox as a brand can start to invest in the culture it'd like to promote to really provide a great experience. I pulled my pac major muscle this morning on the 5/F and gotta lie on the floor for about 5 min as the pain was severe. Surrounded by trainers and other customers, not a single one came to see if I was ok. And that's the consistent experience there. A shame that that is the missing piece, while all the hardware is impeccable.

The gym itself is amazing, the locker room is clean, the lounge near the entrance of the gym is nice too. One thing that is a tiny bit annoying is how loud the people at the front desk are sometimes. I was trying to get some work done in the lounge, and I kept on hearing the two people at the front desk talking and talking. The basketball court is very nice, and they come with basketballs that you can use. Overall a pretty good gym.

I love Equinox, but for one overriding, and scary, factor.
The lifeguards and management that enable them don't care about your safety. The lifeguards are preoccupied with their own entertainment; they sit on a chair amusing themselves on their phones, heads down fixed on their screens, rather than looking at the swimmers they are paid to watch.
Some of them sit and do their homework. Others sit and read a book. One weekend lifeguard was transfixed on his screen, streaming what appeared to be a movie.
At least two wear AirPods, or other ear pieces which all but ensure that they don't hear swimmers. This means that the employees whose job it is to guard swimmers don't see them because they are not looking at them, and they don't hear them because their hearing is compromised.
Management has been alerted to this repeated times, but the problems persist.
Even new lifeguards seem untrained for the task. One new lifeguard sat gabbing away on his phone while swimmers swam in the wrong direction in their lane.
It's as if the guards start their shift and say to themselves "great, now I have time to sit here, go through my emails, write texts and otherwise have fun." They are getting paid to guard against potentially fatal accidents, yet they fail to do their job and leave swimmers at risk.

Equinox Sports Club is absolutely top-notch! The facility is spacious, immaculately clean, and packed with state-of-the-art features, including an incredible rock climbing wall that’s a must-try.
A special shout-out to Alexander, who works on the climbing wall. He’s quick, attentive, and incredibly kind, making the climbing experience smooth and enjoyable for everyone.
Also, a big thank you to David for his expert stretching sessions—they’ve been a game-changer for my recovery.
This is hands down my new favorite fitness destination. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a premium experience!

Very disappointed of this what called‘Luxury gym” they don’t value honesty or integrity. I have contacted them hundreds time for refund since I wasn’t able to practice,, they asked for doctor note and even after I did provide it , the manager in NYC told me that she will be contacting team in LA. However, they email me like they don’t know anything, and then when I respond I only receive auto messages . They all care about how they could charge for anything,, but they have no integrity,,it’s really not classy or luxury when it comes to customer service. Very cheap CS honestly. If I could do zero stars, that what I could give.
Thank you!

I entered Equinox, which I have been a member of for a long time, thinking that I could go to this branch at the same time, and the employees at the reception told me that you do not have access to this location, but you can go to other branches. In fact, they could have made it easier and let him in just once. But of course I didn't mind, I asked for a glass of water before leaving and they told me there was no water. They said, "It's very interesting, we can't give you water." I showed the cafe there so that I could at least go and get it from there because I was really thirsty and the staff told me that it was a private area and you couldn't even get water. Now I'm asking you; I am an equinox member, it is different from other gyms. It is really great that it provides good service, especially that it is clean. But I just say a glass of water, it is not difficult to give a glass of water. And what was even worse was that the employee there did not look at me while talking to me, and made me feel like leaving here as soon as possible. It's really a shame for such a big company to have such employees. I went and froze my membership today. And I will probably end it... I call out to those who go there, especially for that location. Do not interact with the people you meet

I am shocked with the customer service of this location.. We wanted to upgrade to the destination membership and arrived to the location when no membership advisor was present. Instead of just letting us use the location for the day they wanted to charge the abusive fee of 45 dollars per person to people that are already member and were ok with updating. That shows the lack of care of this company that is supposed to be “exclusive” but is always full and give referrals bonus as shopping credits (as if we would ever shop on their overpriced shops). Can’t wait for my contract to be over to cancel it.. that is why there is no month to month membership.. everybody would just run away quickly..

If you don't want to share your locker room with straight thieves avoid this place. Still can't believe I had my apple watch stolen from my locker when I went for a quick shower in a 320/mo gym. I understand the gym holds no responsibility for stolen goods but the dismissal I got from staff members when I reported theft certainly didn't make my day any better. I feel like nothing short of a clown being a a member at this 'prestigious gym' so if you're gym hunting here's your fair warning.

I have been a member here since 2022. I do not understand the negative reviews. I love this gym. I have tried Crunch, New York Sports Club, Blink, and they are all horrible. Equinox is an amazing gym. I love the wide range of group fitness classes which is free with the membership. The gyms are immaculate and the staff is friendly. Equinox helped me lose the weight I gained during the pandemic. I am healthy, fit, and I feel good about myself. Equinox helped me regain my self confidence; that, in itself is priceless.

I've been a member on-and-off since 2004 (when it was the Reebok Club) and a member of various gyms (including other equinox clubs) since I was a teenager. I have NEVER seen filth or mismanagement on the level I've seen since rejoining the Sports Club in 2023.
The locker rooms are filthy and unstaffed. Previously there was always one person upstairs and another 2 downstairs during busy hours. Now maybe there is one person for 3 floors. There are always dirty towels everywhere. On one occasion, a dirty pair of underwear was on the floor for at least an hour, another a large, dead cockroach lying by the jacuzzi. The hairdryers are so weak they couldn't blow out a candle. Several hairdryers have been "out-of-service" for months as has at least one shower.
Then, there was the day TWO MONTHS ago when I opened a shower door to discover dirty takeout containers, utensils and towels in the stall. The same day dirty, wet towels were also all around the locker, steam room and sauna. I complained to the front desk and in writing to management. Still waiting to hear back.
I've emailed the GM multiple times with NO response other than a AGM thanking me for "policing the locker room since he can't". Wait, they have no female employees able to enter the locker room to see it's filthy and lacking towels??? Are they unaware that they have nobody staffing the locker rooms.
There are also frequently people in the spa area who are clearly not members (you can tell because they have all their belongings including their purses and phones nearby and sleep on the lounge chairs). This in addition to people talking on speakerphone in the locker room. Of course there are no attendants to tell them that phones are a no-no in the locker room and spa.
The club's hours were so truncated Thanksgiving weekend that it was impossible to get to the gym for a workout. This was unlike every other gym in the city that had holiday hours on Thanksgiving and normal ones the rest of the weekend. When I arrived, the locker room was filthy, there were no towels, dirty/wet towels were everywhere including the steam room, sauna, benches in locker room. The lifeguard (is he even a certified lifeguard?) was unaware that since the club closed at 4, the pool would be closed a half hour earlier and offered me a lane reservation at 3:30 (when the pool would be closed). I gave up and went home since without towels, I couldn't even take a shower.
If this were a one-time issue, I'd be upset, but it's ongoing. I rejoined because I had fond memories of the well-kept facility, loved the classes and instructors and was able to swim. That is a distant memory.
Now there are significantly fewer classes, they aren't consistent (no more same class, same instructor 2 or 3x/week at the same time) and none in the afternoon (in ye olde days there was at least a mid-afternoon yoga class). The classes aren't very good and don't create the community that I enjoyed previously as a member. The few that are worth taking fill up within 2 minutes of opening in the app.
When I told an instructor that I was just getting back in shape after an illness and asked if I needed a mat, she nastily replied "only if you need it for emotional support." Another class had truly awful sped-up muzak. When I asked about it, the instructor said she doesn't listen to it, only picks out playlists that have the right beat.
A terrible experience. Wildly expensive ($350/month). Total ripoff.

I am surprised that amongst all other locations on UWS, this one is the most expensive one but the least taken care of. Someone has mentioned this already here and I confirm and agree.
Every time I go to take a shower - I have to look for the cleaner shower room. They look like they’ve not been cleaned through the day with all hair laying around and soap, and left on the floor towels. Always lack of clean towels too.
Also, kids club is available for kids until they’re 7years old, or after 15 when you can bring them as a guest. But for 11 year old to hang out in the lounge to read a book while
Im exercising for 1 hour - it is a no.
Some classes are difficult to get into or they get overcrowded.
This all doesn’t fit into the “luxury” of the price we pay for the membership. If you make us pay expensive, please, give us what we pay for.

I have had the worst experience at this gym and I highly recommend you go anywhere else than this specific Equinox. I was in the locker room last week with my husband and I had my phone because I am self-employed and purchase through auctions. Out of nowhere, the assistant general manager, whose name escapes me, comes down with what looks like Security and screaming at the top of his lungs for me to get off my phone And put my phone in the locker room. I immediately start getting dressed and comply, but asked why am being spoken to this way and why I’m being followed back to the locker room like a criminal. for additional context, I’m a gay black man who has two people following him back to locker room to put his phone away. My husband hears still screaming and comes over and says why are you speaking to him this way and says that we’re gonna leave which we proceeded to do, I immediately call the front desk in order to try to get a hold of the general manager Joe and also call Equinox Corporate to file a complaint. I also call my home Jim at Hudson yards and inform them that I believe this assistant general manager is going to try to revoke My membership last night, my husband receives a call, saying that his membership is revoked even though he’s essentially not involved at all, and that they have videotape of him hurling abuse at the assistant general manager. I speak with the general manager who admits that they don’t have any tape because they can’t in the room And he’s decided to revoke my husband‘s membership based on the word of his assistant general manager. We have paid nearly $1000 a month for memberships at this gym only to be treated like common criminals. DO NOT COME HERE.

Despite being a member for the past 20 years since reebok, I ultimately made the difficult decision to leave the gym due to its consistently poor customer service, despite their claims of being the best. The overall experience has become artificial and poor quality. Even they won’t let me freeze account when I get pregnant, even I have a proof of pregnancy by my OB via email but demanded a particular letter format to delay my freeze. Finally a month later I freeze my account but I still received charges, and equinox explained “system error, no refundable”. All experiences, it no longer justifies the annual payment of 5k for the membership.

Wonderful Lifestyle Fitness Club with Everything you could imagine to suit your needs: Multi-Level club which includes its own workspace and a couple private remote working/study spaces, a deli/smoothie bar, and large lounge area - Pool, Sauna, Steamroom and separate mens/women's spa/jacuzzi hot tub. Amazing Staff and excellent location: Central Midtown Manhattan offers incredible connivence; Outdoor running track with Excellent city views; breathtaking scenery. Staff is always awesome - everyone is friendly and accommodating. Clean locker rooms and equipment is always in working order; space is so large that it hardly becomes crowded.
If you see fitness as a lifestyle and primary focus, the luxury and amenities offered here are worth the expense - being a Destination Member at Equinox with the ability to use the high-class facilities offered in some of the world's greatest cities is truly a joy; I always leave Equinox feeling incredible and eager to return! The Sports Club New York location is an absolute must-try; Day passes are available for a fee but I highly recommend the Destination Membership, especially for those who work and travel frequently to cities where Equinox resides; Los Angeles to New York, Chicago to London - making fitness a priority is easy at Equinox.

Regret joining. signed up with my spouse equinox promised $100 pp incentive if we visit 8 time in the first month.. they never paid!
raised to concierge - they just said check your account. $150 referral fee for my spouse never came through either. “It was not noted on my account. My wife had to send another email to confirm it. Not what I expect for an executive member service.
At membership advice was greeted with “what’s wrong” and not in a nice or pleasant tone..
Received promotional text addresses to someone else (they forgot to swap in my name)..
Neither of these are a huge deal, but it shows lack of professionalism at the club. It’s laughable..
Under the rubber floor cover on the 3rd training floor there are holes/deep unevennesses.. those are not identified in anyway.. so, watch out !

A Critical Review of Equinox: Unprofessional Management and Inconsistencies in Access Privileges
The primary source of my disappointment lies in the unprofessional conduct displayed by the management, particularly by Amber, a manager at Equinox. Additionally, inconsistencies surrounding access privileges, highlighted by the contrasting statements of Sherry and Amber, have contributed to my frustration. Explanation below -
Initially, my mom and her husband were attracted to Equinox by a promising deal offered during the COVID-19 pandemic. They were assured that this membership would grant them access to destination after Equinox had exited out of gympass. However, problems arose when my mother called with her husband and requested personal training services from Keston, a trainer recommended by me. Contrary to previous assurances, they were informed that access to these services was restricted due to the absence of destination privileges. This inconsistency in communication regarding access privileges caused confusion and dissatisfaction within the family.
Furthermore, during the enrollment process, I encountered additional inconsistencies. Sherry, a representative of Equinox, explicitly stated that I would not be eligible for the same deal as my mom and her husband because it was special detail they got after Equinox destination left the gym pass which they had, emphasizing the family's possession of destination access - as I had to pay more money then my mother and Sherry could not do anything to help. Fair , I paid more and did not get this deal, but my mother was promised it. This statement contradicted Amber's assertion that the reviewer's mother did not have destination access. Such contradictions erode confidence in Equinox's management and their commitment to transparent and equitable service.
The situation escalated when my mom and her husband's access to the gym was suddenly blocked after a phone call requesting personal training services. When the reviewer's mother visited the gym to sign up for training, she faced extremely unprofessional treatment from Amber. Amber's lack of preparedness and disregard for customer satisfaction were deeply concerning and not in line with the professionalism expected from a manager.
Additionally, it is crucial to address the aggressive behavior displayed by Amber, which further compounded the negative experience. Instead of actively listening to the customer's concerns, Amber repeatedly interrupted and disregarded both my and my mothers input and wouldn't let her finish a thought. This disrespectful approach not only escalated the situation but also left my mother, Regina, in tears. I had to step in to try to explain to him everything. Such unprofessional conduct is deeply concerning.
As a result of this negative experience, my mother has decided to escalate their concerns to Equinox's corporate management. Additionally, my sister, mother, and mother's husband have already canceled their memberships, with my planning to do the same at the end of the year. I firmly believe that paying a premium price should not entail being treated disrespectfully by management. I am now seeking a fitness club for next year that upholds principles of integrity, professionalism, and prioritizes positive customer experiences.
I tacked on an extra star because they keep their sauna at 180F + it's super nice and it's always really clean, the gym as well. The custodians do a great job

Rude staff at all levels! From the person that is at the front desk, sales representatives and management. I tried to get a day pass to see if I should switch my membership to this location since I’m unhappy paying $285 for the 76th street location (not worth my money). The didn’t want to provide me with a day pass even though I am already an equinox member and it’s on their best interest if I decide to change and pay the extra $50. No one was helpful and they were just rude and entitled like they are doing me a favor when we pay for the membership quite a lot for what these gyms are worth. Equinox overall used to have a better reputation, it seems now customer service is worst than if you were paying for Blink or Planet Fitness. After reading other reviews I see I’m not the only one complaining about their customer service. I wouldn’t recommend this place. I hope EQUINOX can train all their staff at all levels because we don’t pay for such an awful customer service and just lack of empathy with people.

I want to know why people with big jobs who make a lot of money and work with big companies get deals and only pay 50 bucks a month? And other people who make less money/freelance are the ones expected to pay 310+ bucks a month? It’s just way too expensive and really unfair.
Adding that I just was charged 348 for whatever reason? Randomly it went up? And I just learned my sister only pays 280 bucks a month. It’s the most unfair system you have ever come across..and they never tell you updates about contracts etc they just change fees constantly.

I love having the full suite of features here, but this location is not as well-kept as other equinox locations.
For those who don't know, this is a mega club. It is 6 stories-massive. Some notable features include the indoor saltwater pool, hot tubs, steam room, dry sauna, rooftop terrace, basketball course, rock-climbing wall, massive locker rooms with vanities, and a massive lounge where you can hang out and do work.
I love coming here on the weekends and spending an entire morning or afternoon since there is so much to do.
The only weakness of this location is that the locker room/showers are not cleaned as frequently as some of the other locations.
Overall, this is absolutely a workout junkie's paradise. You can even spend all day in the gym if that's your thing. Not as well maintained as my equinox, but still above average compared to other gyms.

You get 2 guest passes per year, not per month which is the most disappointing aspect of paying over $300 per month for a membership. Was asked to use the guest passes to show my family around who are visiting from India (we were not even planning on using the gym). The person at the front desk asked me to use the guest passes to show them around. Upon asking where this policy was written that I am supposed to use guest passes to even show friends/family around, the response I received was ‘it’s been a policy ever since Equinox came into existence’. Highly disappointing and embarrassing interaction.

There is some level of service that is expected from a chain that charges >$330 per month that is just bare minimum. Example: you shouldn’t go back to your locker finding it either wide open or set to a different combo because locker room guy was sloppy in opening for someone who forgot combo. Example: if you say you are open till 11 pm, don’t rudely kick members off the workout floor at 10:45 pm, because that means that you are only open till 10:45 pm. Example: don’t run out of towels in the locker room, ever. Takeaway: If you are going to advertise a luxury experience, if you are going to charge for a luxury experience, for the love of god make an attempt to deliver it.

Through the years I’ve heard sooo many rude, impatient, unreasonable members speak to them in unpleasant ways and these front desk individuals are always sooo professional. Equinox, whomever hires your front desk staff at this location is quite astute; Leighton, Allsun, Katie, Monica and Geoff are all nice reflections of their superiors and amazing reflections of the Equinox brand.........this Equinox is incredibly special and the FIRST people to greet you are a large reason why.

In NYC space is a luxury. Hands down, Equinox Sports Club provides that sense of spaciousness by providing an enjoyable break from the city. The space comes at a hefty price tag, but it really depends on what you value. For me, having nice showers and a sauna is lovely. Having a clean space with room to move about is splendid. Having a nice lounge to go have a bite or do a bit of work feels almost like I have a WeWork and gym in one. We know that people's reviews on here are polarizing - you get the lovers and the haters. The haters feedback seems a little caddy if you ask me. No boxing gloves? Come on - bring them. This is a norm in NYC and to be honest I wouldn't want to share sweaty gloves. Crunch, NYSC, etc all feel like you're cramped in a basement. If you're no frills, by all means save the buck and hangout in a basement gym. But if you want a sense of openness, great views, clean high end equipment, and a variety of class options - this is worth the money.

Great gym. Even at peak time you don't have to wait for a squat rack, and it doesn't get very full, especially compared to other NYC gyms.
There are 7 squat racks, a ton of barbells and always enough space to setup and deadlift, including two olympic platforms. There are only 3 flat bench press setups, but you can always set up in a squat rack if needed.
The equipment here includes bumper plates, a safety squat bar, a huge quantity of various weight dumbbells, and basically everything you'd expect from a good gym. All the machines are high quality as well.
The only downside is there's not a ton of barbell collars, but I've never had an issue finding some after a bit of searching. Definitely minor compared to the upsides.

This gym is a good example of how bigger isn't always better. Very inefficient use of space. Only a few weight benches for the entire gym and not enough light weights such as 10, 12.5, and 15. Upon complaining at the front desk that my wallet had disappeared in the club I was told "OK". Then I spoke to several people who were a bit more sympathetic, but unfortunately neither wallet nor phone were recovered. For context, I had never had a personal item stolen in NYC before, I have lived here for 7 years. Not sure if this is a new problem given the current crisis or an existing one, but needs to be addressed.

This is the most beautiful gym I’ve ever seen - with a price tag to match. To justify, I just go more, gotta take advantage of their abundant class offerings from yoga to spin to anything else that I’m curious about. There’s a work space and lounge area with all sorts of reasonably priced healthy foods and drinks. Theres a track, a sun area, a pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, rock wall! I slather on my money’s worth in kiehls cause why not. Oh and eucalyptus mint towels. Oh man. I’m in love with this gym. The only con of this large, multilevel space is trying to find what you’re looking for. The yoga studio is at the far end of the lounge. Takes a few trips of exploration to get the lay of the land.

I was so excited and put up with all the renovations, but after, the club changed. It used to be so quiet and nice. Now I find most people there annoying. The cleaning staff and the cafe staff are still great. Although they did try a different cafe thing for like a month and it failed spectacularly. They offer a wide range of awesome classes with exceptional teachers. The pool is salt water. They have so much variety in their machines and places to stretch. I cant run, but the running track outside around the building look so cool. Theyve a nice rooftop too. But now you have to book classes in advance. Most of the classes are packed and there arent enough weights or mats for everyone. Youve no personal space in the classes. The showers are sometimes very unclean and missing shampoo. Before I even get to the place I have a pretty embarrassing experience...for equinox of course. I waited 10 minutes with minimal information to be transferred to an incredibly rude “membership advisor.” I called to ask for membership information. I expressed that I live on the Upper West Side and wanted a gym with a pool. The “membership advisor” would not offer pricing information or a trial. He then said “he won’t apologize that equinox isn’t for everyone” and asked me if I gave free trials at the gym that I own. I mentioned that I owned a gym. He hung up the phone after repeating that “equinox isn’t for everyone” and it’s “a private gym” before I could ask again for membership pricing or agree to come visit a location. I am honestly dumbfounded at how terrible of a sales call it was, on a professional level as much as a personal one. To be clear, I didn’t ask for a free trial. I just said that I wanted to try it before committing to a membership. Is this how it always works?

I’m rating this club 1 star because of the difference between the club’s ’premium’ self-presentation and the quality it provides. Overall it’s surely a decent gym, large facility, new equipment, etc. But what should make a great gym is the quality of trainers. Equinox instead pours all money in the facility. A number of trainers and instructors at this gym are far from the top, majority are pretty mediocre. My assigned PT was not able to offer any comprehensive workout strategy for me, let alone show how to use any of the equipment. Cycling class was just plain cycling for 45 minutes with music: no intervals, no changes of resistance levels, no new skills or training techniques from the instructor... And I can go on. The club app doesn’t have functionality to rate the instructors and leave feedback. Very few instructors have a bio available. We do not even know if they are top professionals in their sport, or just people equinox hired from the street. The class variety is limited, classes are overcrowded. It feels like equinox is cashing out. Big dislike.

I have been an all access Equinox member since there were only 2 locations in the country, back in the early 2000s. I have had various memberships, some corporate, personal, etc...
I called the Equinox Sports Club NYC in summer to see if I could have a day guest pass to try the pool. I specifically said I want to only swim and not use the gym. I normally go to the Columbus Circle or Greenwich Ave pools but a friend told me that the pool here was great.
When I called I was told that I could try the pool for a day for a $70 fee.
WHAT? How do you expect me to join and pay a premium over and above the all access fee when you won't even let me try the pool one time?
I spoke to management and they reduced the fee from $70 to $35, seriously? Forget it. Your exclusivity is not that exclusive. You are a GYM, nothing more.
In my travels to Southern California, which are about 4 times a year, I called the Sports Club in Westwood and was told to come in and that they will give me a free day pass. When I arrived, they were SO nice, they gave me a tour and said anytime I am back in CA to call in advance and they will have my guest pass waiting, FREE OF CHARGE!!
NYC Sports Club guess what? you have zero sense of client service or business acumen. You would actually make tons more money if you used your brains and gave long standing equinox members a single day pass to check out the club. I was ready to pay the premium over the summer and so were 2 of my friends that were planning to join. Luckily for them, I steered them away from your club and toward other Equinox clubs:) Happy Holidays!!!

Waste of time. Went for tour yesterday and gym looked okay. Mostly wanted to join for the pool which they kept warm and the room was also warm/humid- not impressed. Said it was salt water but smelled heavy of chlorine. The equipment looked nice but it was kinda confusing how much I'd actually get out of the membership. I told them that I would like a day to think about it. They asked for my credit card number so they could hold my reservation. Before I even left, they charged my card over $400. When I questioned them, they denied it. I had to spend an hour calling my bank, missing my later dentist appointment. Equinox claimed the transaction was a 1 in a million accidental malfunction of their system which linked to another person's account and that they couldn't delete or cancel it. I feel like it was a scam. A good business would have offered me a week of free membership for my tribulations. They just said they were sorry and that the transaction will "fall off" today, which it has not. I'll wait until tomorrow, hopefully I won't have to file a formal dispute.
**They contacted me on Monday through email and asked me to send a screen shot of my bank statement on my phone. When I told them that Chase Bank doesn't allow screen shots for privacy reasons, they asked me to take a photo of it from my computer!!
The charge finally 'fell off' on Tuesday. Good thing I didn't need that money for anything before then...
