this location doesn’t allow you to use your husband’s credit card to buy physical gift card and they don’t tell you in advance when you call before coming. same worked last year.

You'll have a staff member literally walking around but not actually upkeeping the facility. The toilet seats are stained with pics and tissue. I had a staff walk right behind me as I was walking out to voice the concern. Worst gym experience. But that is their standard for the day

This EQX feels like a public pool. You can’t sit in the locker rooms to do makeup or whatever, no eucalyptus spray in steam room, no music, the shower I was in was messed up , the cleaning lady for some reason was staring me down as I was naked, yuck. Didn’t like the experience or design. Not what I signed up for, I’d rather commute than go to this one which is 2 mins from my appartment

Honestly I don’t understand the low ratings of this place! I’m from DC and was in for the weekend, got a guest pass from a friend. This gym was super clean, well stocked, the machines were all very nice and new. The staff were friendly and my overall experience was excellent. I would recommend this gym to anyone, yes it’s on the smaller side but they have a lot of equipment. Don’t be bothered by the negative reviews go check it out! 💪

I’ve been using this location for a year and a half now. The gym is very well maintained, extremely clean, and the equipment is in very good condition with plenty of cardio machines and a stretching area.
The staff is super nice and friendly.
The location is great, right in the middle of Midtown with subway stations all around.

A cute, capsule gym for a luxury price-tag. But is it worth it?
Had a membership here for about 6 months, but I am discontinuing. Biggest pluses are that it is always very clean & the bathrooms come with more amenities than the average gym (hair straighteners, Kiehl's* bath/body/hair products, towels, etc.). This makes me feel comfortable taking my time & enjoying the aftercare experience of my workout. But the post-game is not the only thing that matters.
Biggest cons are that even with a single gym membership, which is hundreds of dollars, this gym is still underground: it has no natural light and is not very spacious. It also does not have lots of machines, or very specialized machines--they are very standard (e.g. hip abductor, leg extension). Of the muscle-targeting machines, there will be only one in the gym, not multiple. This is Manhattan, so limitless space can't be expected, but for the price I'd still expect it to feel more airy. Essentially, the workout side of my experience could be a more elevated for price.
So, if what you're looking for is a gym, I think there are definitely better gyms that better serve that purpose. You are paying for the experience, which is like a nice hotel. But this is not a gym where I think "this is the best gym I have been to". I will be looking for that more in my next gym! Bye, Equinox!

Abhorrent Customer service from the staff at this location. I spent $6k on training sessions and had 5 remaining sessions that expired this week. The GM and PT Manager (Elizabeth and Princess) REFUSED to extend my remaining 5 sessions so I could use them later this month, DESPITE knowing that I was just laid off last week and my priority is scheduling interviews!!! I think it's pretty common sense that if you have customers/clients willing to invest $6k in your training bundles, you want to keep them around. Rather, they yelled at me and threatened me on the phone in the most unprofessional manner, then dug their heels in and refused to budge. Apparently EQX needs the $500 more then me!

I recently moved to NYC to start a new job on May 1. First and foremost, I wanted to join a local gym that's either within walking distance from my apartment or office. Second, I wanted to take advantage of gym membership reimbursements from my company, American Express credit card, and health insurance plan. With that in mind, my first instinct was to tour Equinox. I walked in and approached their White male receptionist to inquire about membership. He completely ignored me and proceeded to browse his phone. I asked again, and he told me to take a seat. Approximately 25 minutes later he gave me an attitude after I asked him if there were any membership advisors available. So I left. It was reprehensible how he treated me. It was shocking to observe his failure to greet any members arriving or leaving the gym.

This is by far the smallest Equinox in NYC. There are limited free weights equipment and an abundant supply of treadmills and ellipticals on the main floor and basement. This is absolutely useless as 3/4 of the treadmills and ellipticals are never used. The men’s locker room is small. Most afternoon and evening front desk receptionists are rude especially to minorities like Asians and Blacks. They don’t even acknowledge these Asian and Black members entering or leaving the gym. If Asian and Black members say hi, they don’t respond. But they will gladly greet White and pale skin Latino members.

It's hard to imagine a scenario more fraught than a racially biased, illicit transaction going awry, but Equinox Midtown Manhattan has managed to create an environment that feels equally uncomfortable and unwelcoming. It's a scenario as bleak as a stormy night in a graveyard, a place where the ghost of what could have been a top-tier fitness center haunts the patrons with its insubstantiality.
Upon entering, one is instantly struck by the air of exclusivity, an exclusivity that feels less like a private club's charm and more like a dubious back-alley deal. The staff's attitude, rather than exuding the warm hospitality one would expect from a high-end gym, is reminiscent of a sketchy broker more interested in the color of your money than in your fitness goals or wellbeing.
The discrimination doesn't stop there. Race, it seems, plays an unexpected role in the level of service received. The stark difference in treatment between members of different races is as glaring as a spotlight in a dark alley, casting long, uncomfortable shadows over the entire experience. Such behavior is not just unprofessional, it's reprehensible, especially in a city as diverse and vibrant as New York.
The facility, while boasting high-tech equipment and luxe amenities, is tainted by an undercurrent of illicitness. The locker rooms have a distinct atmosphere that brings to mind a clandestine exchange gone wrong rather than a place to freshen up post-workout. It's unsettling, to say the least, and not conducive to the relaxation and rejuvenation one should expect from a premium gym.
The cleanliness, or lack thereof, appears to be an afterthought. It's as if they've intentionally set out to lower the bar, creating a grimy, uncomfortable environment that leaves you feeling more in need of a shower than after your most intense workout.
The classes, often praised as a highlight of the Equinox experience, fall flat as well. The instructors, while competent, seem disengaged and uninterested, like they're mentally elsewhere, perhaps contemplating their next deal rather than focusing on providing a stellar fitness experience.
All in all, Equinox Midtown Manhattan is a disappointment, a pale shadow of what a luxury fitness center should be. It's a poorly executed transaction, leaving you feeling short-changed and disrespected. This is not what you sign up for when you commit to a high-end gym. It's a failed deal, a broken promise, and a stark reminder that glitz and glamour can never compensate for a lack of integrity and professionalism.

People don’t need a lot to be a manger, here, they don’t need ANYTHING to be a manager. The staff are absolutely rude and unprofessional, particularly the cleaning lady in the locker room and the so called manager (the female one).
I came out of shower, wanted to get 2 pads. The cleaning lady was filling up the box, I walked over, she wouldn’t step aside, so I asked: “Can I have 2 pads?” She didn’t look at me or say anything, then took her a couple seconds to pass me one. I asked: “Can I have another one?” Again, she didn’t look at me or say anything, then took her a few seconds to pass me another one. I took it and walked away. She turned around and confronted me: “You don’t have to snatch it. You’re nasty. Don’t give that attitude.” I was shocked! First, I was being very polite. Second, there’s absolutely no reason for a staff to call a member nasty for no reason! I said: “I didn’t snatch anything. I asked for 2, so I was waiting.” She goes: “You’re only supposed to take one. That’s why.” Seriously?! Does she know how much I’m paying for my membership every month? How much does that extra pad cost? And what makes her called a member nasty and give me that attitude? She followed me to my locker and continue to yell at me and then went outside to gossip about me with her coworker, loud enough for me to hear in the locker room. I walked outside and requested to talk to a manager, this cleaning lady was already there complaining about me to her manager. What about me for her to complain about while she’s the one who’d been yelling the whole time. They made me wait while she’s complaining about me, a member of Equinox.
Finally when I got a chance to speak to the so called manager. She said she didn’t want me to feel I wasn’t able to use the amenities. (Really?! For an extra pad?) She asked if there’re other staff in the locker room while this happened. (Really?! Me as a customer need to proof what’s wrong instead of the staff herself?!) She then said she would definitely talk to the staff and find out what happened because she’s hearing 2 sides of the story now. (So, a member requested to talk to a manger without even drying her hair just for the sake of telling a “story”?!) She interrupted me in the middle of the conversation. I didn’t let her interrupt. She, the so called manager, confronted me too and said the conversation ended and asked me to leave the office. Really?! Because I wouldn’t let her interrupt me?! If you’re reading any of the negative comments here, they’re ALL real!
I came to this location 2 months ago and the same cleaning lady was miserable and acting with an attitude already. I didn’t care because I didn’t see myself coming back. The locker room’s floor was full of hair and dust and I didn’t want to step on it. When I was there today, there’s some brown pieces of items on the mat of a shower.
I have an all access pass, so I can go anywhere but this gym. If you’re looking to join only one Equinox location, avoid this location by all means. That’s because the staff are absolutely rude and unprofessional; and the gym is very small and dirty.

I like the gym. Always clean and the staff is friendly. The only issue is they have a very limited dumbell section which is always crowded (whenever I come) and I never got to do the workouts I planned for the day. It would be better if they could extend the section and get more dumbells and benches instead of cardio machines which are always empty.

Was a member for 6 yrs. Had a simple credit card issue (lost debit card, needs to get new card on file, and after 3 months they canceled the account and then make you resign up and pay an addition-@ $300 initiation fee. Crazy. 6 yrs of working out every day at the same 50th st location, managers there are little vipers that just want to separate you from as much of your money as possible. Even after charging $320 month, they still want that $300 fee that should never have been charged. Toxic little vipers. Will walk 3 blocks north to Crunch and pay less than $100 and deal with far friendly management. Good luck with that business strategy Equinox, won’t be winning you much new business. And I will personally be the cheerleader at my Employer (Large Investment Bank) to get as many folks signed up over at Crunch rather than Equinox. Cheers to 2023.

This is a pretty solid equinox. It's not as luxurious as the other equinoxes but it does the job and has everything you'd need- lots of free weights, benches, squat racks, cardio equipment, etc.
This location has the t bench for dumbbell tricep extensions and the foot rest for single leg split squats which none of the Lifetime's have, so I appreciate that a lot.
The cardio equipment definitely needs an update. The stair masters look like they were built in the 1950's...
Overall, it's a very dependable gym. Great location right in midtown.

Equipment is really good and clean, it's a real pleasure to come working at there.
There is a first free session with a personal coach which is useful if you have any question.
The price of the membership is too expensive though for what you get though right now as there are no more group class.
I would estimate the price at around $100/month vs the $190/month as long as group class aren't available.
(Note : good thing they are offering 1month + if you get referred you get $100 gift card 😁)

After 4 years of membership these leaders have failed me utterly.
That is to say, that after 4 weeks of emails with member services in an attempt to cancel my membership and doing everything they asked. I received a very nasty email from the general manager Steve canceling my membership and claiming I'll receive a refund, we'll see!?!
And they cancelled it on a day that was different than I had previously been told! They just keep getting it wrong and that's true across the brand, whatever club you go to... #fail
This place has gone to the dumps and this brand has lost all of its appeal for me.
For the price, which is high, one should get something more than a quick interlude in the shower or your wallet stolen from your locker. 😲
Skip this place, save your money, there's better.

I have been a member since 2017. On 2/26/2019, because of work reason, I needed and requested to freeze my account for a month from 2/27/2019 at Columbus Circle club. Front desk told me a manager would reach out to me shortly. In fact, no body has contact me at all for the follow up. My membership charge is usually paid by my husband’s credit card. He also had reached out to EQX few times for me regarding my request. Same answer: a manager will reach out to me shortly.
Nobody!!!!!!! NO ONE emailed or called me at all the whole time.
I am now back home in NYC. My husband just told me his card was changed as regular again.
I definitely notice how well EQX cares about their customers. I feel so disappointed because the customer service at EQX is unbelievable disorganized and bad. I am now receiving a silence treatment from EQX because all what Equinox wants is money.

My friend invited me to work out with him while I was here on vacation last week. It was definitely a mistake. How can you justify charging members an adsorbent monthly membership fee for such a small gym? There's water leaking from the ceiling which hampers the use of the abduction machine. Do you really think anyone wants water dripping on their forehead? One of the trainer, a Korean male with tattoos wearing a cap, was very rude and unprofessional. No. I don't want your outside nasty services! Stop following my friend and I around the small tight basement floor. Stop chatting up with the male receptionist to get my personal information. I am a former athlete and trainer. That is ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE! This gym doesn't respect the privacy of their patrons! Another trainer is slouching on the chair with his leg and feet on the coffee table next to the staircase. He was most likely asleep with a book almost falling off his chest. Would I join once I relocate for work? No!

Equinox @ 50th Street is extremely loud. It is so loud that when you're listening to your iPod, you can't hear your own music. To add insult to injury, the management says that they aren't allowed to adjust the volume levels at the club. I have even brought this to the attention of the Head Manager for 50th St and she says that corporate has set the volume level. The gym environment should feel like a gym, but when you can't hear your own iPod, there is a problem!
