Best yoga studio in the city. I just wish they offered Yin more than once a week!

On a revitalized street on Buffaloβs West Side, a silent testament to the city's industrial past clings to the brick faΓ§ade of a handsome 1900 Italianate building. Faintly visible, the words "Gold Medal Flour" whisper of a bygone era. Today, however, the most transformative alchemy at 476 Rhode Island Street happens inside, within the serene, light-filled walls of Evolation Yoga.
This is not merely a place to practice yoga; it is a destination with a palpable sense of history, a studio where the echoes of a former life as a dance hall seem to infuse the polished hardwood floors with a unique energy. The owners, David Drost and Stacy Tuberdyke, have cultivated a space that is both a sanctuary from the urban hustle and a vibrant community hub, preserving the building's historic soul while instilling it with a modern, mindful spirit.
The studio is part of the global Evolation Yoga family, a brand born from a desire to create a more inclusive and accessible approach to the famously rigid Bikram tradition. The philosophy here is one of adaptation and personal growthβan βevolutionβ of the practice, as the name suggests. This ethos translates into a diverse class schedule that moves beyond the traditional 90-minute hot sequence to include Vinyasa flows and restorative Yin, catering to a wider range of bodies and temperaments.
Stepping inside, one is greeted by an immediate sense of calm. The studio is immaculately clean, with high ceilings and large windows that flood the space with natural light. Instructors are consistently lauded for their warmth and expertise, guiding students with precision and encouragement. There is a tangible feeling of community here, a refreshing departure from the sometimes-intimidating atmosphere of more corporate fitness chains.
The experience is not without its intensity. The signature βHot 90β class is a challenging, sweat-drenched affair in a room heated to 105 degrees, designed to detoxify and invigorate. Yet, even in the most demanding moments, the focus remains on personal exploration rather than perfect execution. For those seeking a gentler path, the βWarm 60β offers a less heated but equally rewarding practice.
Financially, Evolation makes a concerted effort to be accessible. An introductory month of unlimited classes is offered for $49, with subsequent options ranging from single drop-in classes ($20) to cost-effective monthly and annual memberships. While the overwhelming majority of feedback is glowing, a few practitioners have noted a desire for more quietude during classes, a minor quibble in an otherwise harmonious environment.
Evolation Yoga Buffalo offers a compelling proposition: a world-class yoga experience grounded in a deep sense of place. It is a testament to the city's ongoing renaissance, a place where history and mindfulness intersect, inviting you to stretch, sweat, and connect with something deeper than the pose. For the traveling yogi or the dedicated local, it is a worthy pilgrimage.

It is a beautiful vive and building. Very good place to practice and see your flow. My favorite is the projector lights of the moon and aura lights, wow! This spot is very comfy, cozy, and clean. Felt right at home, thank you!

Last time I went to Evolation Yoga, It was mid March 2020 before everyone started freaking out & closing businesses. This place opened back up recently under new management & there are next to no differences! Instructor & their flow was structured the same & the sweat was even better. Felt so good to be back. If you're questioning whether to come back or not, just do it!

Had decent experiences there in the past, nothing that ever wowed me. My biggest issue with this studio is that its not a good place for busy working professional who need consistency and reliability .. Just wasted 25 mins trying to "schedule" myself into a 8pm class on the website that prompts you to make an account and then trying to get me to pre pay online even though i have a package, does not give you the option to pay in person. Some times you get yourself there at 6 am and it turns out the instructor slept through class.... You call and no one answers, right now the answering machine is from Jan 31st. Meanwhile if you're .2 seconds late they will lock you out of a class.

I have seen them let people in late before, but was locked out once when I was five minutes late. Another time, I had stayed late to help clean up after a hard day at work. I rushed home, grabbed my mat, ran to yoga but no luck. I was exactly one minute late, everyone was still seated on their mats, door was locked. It was very snowy that day and I feel bad for the girl who drove there and was also turned away. Today, all classes appear to be canceled or are full, no explanation on the website. Maybe President's Day? (EDIT: Google says Washington's Birthday may effect these hours. Is this a day people have off?) Bummer because it's probably the only day I won't be working overtime and can actually attend. Maybe I'm being a brat, but my enthusiasm is dampened.
I like some of the classes (Susan is my favorite teacher) but I can't justify paying as much as they charge for what they offer. It just feels like another exercise class, not a community, and I haven't really found the welcoming home I was hoping for here. I'm going to try some other studios, maybe try Pilates or Crossfit or something.
They give a good first impression, and I hear you can do a cleaning day to offset the cost of attendance. The Groupon deal is also pretty cool. Give it a try, you might like it, but maybe start with the intro deal and if you like it, check Groupon. A lot of people really rave about this place so by all means, give it a try, but I don't fit here.
I also want to clarify that it's not a bad studio by any means. YOUR yoga home might be here, so if you're thinking about it, give it a try. Pretty sure they have some kind of dance class on Friday or Saturday night, which I have only witnessed through the window and looks fun and intense.

They should advertise that if you come βlateβ or during class they lock the door. Today I came in between classes... itβs amazing
Doing the Groupon now-but I absolutely plan on getting a membership

Energy here is amazing! Special shouts to Instructor Karen Dennis. Her classes bring smiles to the entire room. Her energy is peaceful, fun and uplifting. Each class I've experienced has been filled with laughter and love. 10 out of 10 i'll do it again...and again.

Atmosphere is nice but for $15/class they could at least provide facial towels. Beware that they do not accept reservations either and pack people like sardines in there. As far as I can tell their is no maximum capacity the more the merrier. It's okay though "we are welcoming people".

Love it! I bought a Groupon for 10 classes at $59 and went for the first time today. It was very nice and clean. The instructor was very welcoming and helpful. The yoga was challenging yet simple...and it helps that the instructor was very detailed in explaining each pose and helpful hands on. I can't wait to go again! Thumbs up!

Great Studio. What i really loved are the teachers! amazing and easy going. David the owner is really easygoing and welcoming. But everybody else does a great job too.
i found hot and warm yoga classes Bikram style (both 60 and 90 min long), and also cool Vinyasa flow classes heated and not.
the place has also a cool homy atmosphere which is a plus.
