Love, love, love Faust Karate! My focus was finding a place that would build my son's confidence as well as help him with his ADHD. Its been a couple years now and my son loves going there! I feel like Sensei Faust and the instructors are very understanding of his needs. It's the best feeling as a Mom to watch your child grow and learn and I'm so thankful we are part of the Faust Karate team!!!

I was looking for a place for my son to grow and make meaningful connections in the community when I stumbled on a Facebook advertisement for Faust's. I didnt know anything about Karate or what to expect but as he just finished his first 7 months all I can say is that it has been such an amazing experience so far. In the short time that he has been training he has become more in control of his responses showing restraint in difficult situations and making better decisions, his confidence has improved as well as his self esteem, he is as proud of himself as we are of him and he genuinely enjoys participating in the classes and moral lessons that he is learning. Sensei Faust and her team have made such an impact on my son and my family, the instructors operate beyond being just a business by providing a family friendly, positive, welcoming and diverse environment for children and adults alike because they actually care about each other and everyone who comes through the doors. The programs take you from beginner to leadership by providing a safe and inclusive environment for children to grow and I look forward to bringing my son each week and enjoy seeing the progress he is making and the progress that he will continue to make while having the supportive and positive role models he has here. Thank you Faust's for everything.

I highly recommend Faust's USA karate. My son has been attending classes in May and he loves going. He is always ready to go and reminds his father and I that it is time to leave for karate. Adam has learned about discipline, respect, and focus. His teachers have even written to us that they have noticed a change in him since the last school year. Thank you so much for all you do!!

Faust’s USA Karate
Growth, Maturity, and Determination
For nearly 30 years, I’ve been involved with a truly special place in our community—Faust’s USA Karate. This dojo is more than just a martial arts school; it’s a supportive “village” where children grow into strong, responsible, and respectful individuals.
When my son was seven, he wasn’t interested in typical sports, despite our best efforts with gymnastics, baseball, and soccer. Everything changed when he tried a karate class at Faust’s USA Karate, owned and operated by the remarkable Kathy Faust. With Kathy’s guidance and unwavering support from her staff, my shy only child blossomed over his eight years there—becoming not just physically confident but also considerate, respectful, and resilient.
Inspired by my son’s transformation, I later introduced two young girls to the dojo. One moved away, but the other—now age ten and entering her third year—dreams of earning her black belt.
If your children will have free time this summer, I encourage you to explore what Faust’s USA Karate offers. Their special introductory programs are a wonderful way to experience a close-knit community where teens mentor younger students and instructors lead with kindness while maintaining high expectations.
You can even meet some of the staff and students in person at Fairport Canal Days this weekend at the upper parking lot in front of the library. Give your kids the gift of strength, confidence, and the joy of accomplishing their goals—visit Faust’s USA Karate and see the difference for yourself.

We started our 5 year old in November looking for an activity to get him interacting with new people as well as a place to burn some energy. 2 months in and he is literally running out the door everyday to get to his next class. Great environment with great attention to detail. The school does a great job not only in instruction of the art, but also teaches the kids positive life lessons as well. Friendly and welcoming staff who always are checking in to see how things are going. If you are in the fence about starting your child into Karate, please don’t hesitate to check out Faust’s USA Karate.

I've been training for almost 3 years and I just earned my Brown Belt. Never in a million years did I think I would end up where I am today. I never thought this kind of community existed in martial arts. The teachers and STORM members are amazing and I'm proud calling each and everyone here my friend. They're open to questions, parents get involved too, and there have been many initiatives for charity, whether that is giving spare Halloween candy to veterans or promoting awareness during breast cancer awareness month and wearing pink belts in its honor. Personally, I have gotten so much more flexible and strong since joining, but I think the biggest improvement I've seen is my social skills. As a former homeschooler, I did not have regular exposure to people prior to this. Now I feel like I can strike up a conversation with anyone. I wouldn't give up this community for anything. :)

We were struggling to find an activity that would capture our son’s attention and were so happy we found Faust Karate. Our son is excited for classes, which are always engaging, fun and different, and we have really seen his confidence grow. The instructors are wonderful with all the kids. We are excited to continue with Faust and look forward to when our youngest can join!

It is a friendly place to come. My daughter wanted to take karate classes so she can learn self defense. She loves, they offered a free class for mom's and dad's on mother's and father's day. It is a real family environment that show they care about kids and their families.

My son has been training at Faust's USA Karate for 8 years, and it's been an incredible experience. The instructors are not only highly skilled in karate but also wonderful with the kids and their families. They create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where students can thrive and reach their full potential. Thanks to their guidance and support, my son recently earned his black belt, a goal he's been working towards for years. Beyond karate, they also teach valuable life lessons like discipline and perseverance. In addition to developing his physical skills, my son has also honed his leadership skills through opportunities to help teach the younger kids at Faust's. I highly recommend this dojo to anyone looking for a top-notch karate program led by truly wonderful people!

My 9-year-old son has been training at Faust's karate for two years, and he loves it. Their youth program is extremely well-structured, and the lead instructor (Jason) is phenomenal with the kids. Over the course of my family's time at the dojo, I have gotten to know Senseis Faust, Cooper and Jason fairly well, and I can attest to the fact that they're not only great martial artists, but great people as well. They legitimately care about everyone they're teaching. Highly recommended.

There’s seriously something magical about this place!
You might never win the raffle during the summer.
You might not get the red belt for weeks on end, but you WILL come outta class feelin like a champion and BETTER than you were when you first went in.

Here’s a further breakdown of this place;

F: family vibe
A: authentic you is welcome
U: unparallel instructors teaching kiddos
S: skills will be obtained
T: teamwork during class

My son started when he turned 5. My only regret is that I didn’t know about this place when he was 3 or 4 so that I could have joined sooner. They really work with kids here, even those who are neurodivergent, adhd, autism etc. Faust understands that kids are essentially kids and they welcome all types of kids as well as instill some sort of helpful knowledge with each class. They are part of the village that raises our kids and I feel lucky to have them in my life.

Sensei Faust,
It’s hard to put into words how much you have changed my life. You were a voice in my formative years and pushed me to go beyond my perceived limitations. Your teachings instilled so many life lessons and so many moral values that I can point to in my adult life. I know several others that started with me feel the same way that you were more than a coach, you were an additional parental figure in our lives – a part of the family. My family grew even larger going through the grueling challenge of black belt testing as a teenager with other kids my age.
Losing my mom was devastating – I found an unexpected support group in 2 other alumni black belts who also lost their mothers the same year (one even lost both parents ☹) Training with you and Sensei Jason has been a therapy I didn’t know was possible and I am exceptionally grateful for the opportunity. It allowed me to pour myself back into both a physical and mental challenge that is immensely positive and nostalgic in a time when current events over the past 4 years had been pushing me to depression and anxiety.
Watching you and Jason go through the training classes with the fresh eyes of a Sensei with a Dojo of his own, I was picking up on things that won’t be found on any YouTube video. Far more than just drills and class structure but some of the ingredients to the lessons and values you instilled in me as a child – the requirements of random acts of kindness, the commitment to community service, the wise aphorisms, the insightful famous quotes and even the good natured ribbing of the students and peers. I saw the seeds of hope being planted in the teenagers I trained alongside this year in 2024 and am so happy to know that a not-so-little dojo in Fairport NY is still forging high quality humans under the purview of one Sensei Kathy Faust.

Thank you!

I immediately felt welcome, and I have benefitted greatly from very attentive support from staff and students. Both my son and I have had a great time and a great experience at Faust’s. For my son martial arts has been a great way to keep active and learn to stay focused. He had an interest in taking classes and at the recommendation of a family in our community we came for a free trial class. He started training about a year ago and has now started sparring and loves it even more. I started taking classes a few months later after “mom’s train for free promotion” and have stayed on training ever since. For me, it has been a wonderful way to share an activity with my child, where he gets to teach me something new as well as a way to do something for myself both physically and mentally. I can go take a class and forget about the stresses of my workday and learn self defense techniques. As someone who has never enjoyed group workouts, it was hard to feel comfortable initially, but from the youngest students to the most experienced instructors, I have been welcomed and encouraged- and it’s a great work out as well!

I took classes at Sensei Faust’s dojo for a few years when I was a young kid in the early 90s. I have a lot of fond memories of the experience, and it makes me very happy to see that the dojo is still around and going strong! Faust teaches you not only martial arts techniques, but the importance of showing respect and self-confidence. In other words, not only will your kid learn how to do a wicked round house kick, they’ll also learn the importance of looking at adults in the eyes when talking to them as a show of respect.

Our son has been thriving in the Lil Champs program at Faust USA Karate. We knew it was a special place from the first day we met with Mr. Cooper, and he saw our very wiggly son as not just a potential student but as a whole person, with lots of potential and lots of room for growth. We are so impressed with the level of respect, emphasis on focus, and yet constant atmosphere of fun in the classes with Sensei Jason. The holistic approach to martial arts, teaching not just the movement and fitness aspects but focus, courage, respect, accountability, confidence, and so many more values and prosocial qualities, is amazing to witness in action, especially with young kids. There are few parenting decisions that I have never questioned, but taking my son to karate class at Faust is one. We are so grateful to have this resource in our community and the influence of the Senseis and other students in our lives.

Since my original post, I have joined the Dojo myself and taken classes for the last 6 months. It has been amazing for my confidence, my mental health, and my physical health. It is intimidating to start as a White Belt in your 30's, but there is nothing but support for participants at every level. I look forward to class (a first for me, in terms of exercise) and always leave feeling better than when I arrived. I look forward to training with my son in the future when he is old enough to participate in the family or juniors classes.

My 6 year old daughter began classes shortly after school began this September. I am very happy with the way the instructors build skills and bolster confidence.

School interactions with other students took much of the joy from her day to day. She has always been kind and caring. Lately more introverted. Recently, a younger child on thee bus was being teased and was unable to get the others to stop it. She placed herself between them and boldly told them to stop. It stopped.

The teachings reinforce standing up for yourself and others. Great step forward.

Since starting my martial arts journey I have been in love with everything I have gained from my training. When my old dojo closed unfortunately due to Covid I was devastated at loosing the family I had come to love and enjoyed training with. I was hurt and angry but understood it all at the same time. That’s when my old Sensei recommended Fausts USA karate and I have never looked back. Myself and a few of my old teammates joined this awesome team and were welcomed with open arms. Not only were we welcomed by the awesome staff but other students alike. It has been an awesome journey learning new things in a new style, learning new things about myself and being pushed in ways I couldn’t imagine. Great instructors and students alike that have welcomed me with open arms. I’m enjoying this new journey and I am excited to see where it takes me. I’m hoping to earn another Black Belt to add to my resume. Thanks for allowing me to join your team.

Sensei Faust and her team are fantastic. Throughout all of the Covid shutdown, karate kept running, at first via Facebook classes, and then small Zoom classes for each belt level. Now they’re back in person (with masks on, lots of hand washing, and social distancing between students). And throughout it all, Sensei Faust, Sensei Jason and Mr Cooper checked in on all of the families. We received several calls and emails asking if we needed anything, and asking how both of my kids were coping (even though only one does karate). Sensei Jason even surprised my daughter by dropping off a pair of Harry Potter socks he knew she’d like. The caring that everyone at Faust’s shows was evident during the shutdown and is always obvious during classes where they tailor the training to each kid (or adult) and really get to know their students. I highly recommend!

I studied karate with Kathy Faust for two years in the early 1980s. Now, 38 years later, I’m back studying karate in Colorado. After a bit over 3 months of training here I am deeply grateful for the foundation I gained from Faust’s USA Karate. (If only I’d stayed fit, too…!) The fundamentals I learned in Kathy Faust’s school have served me very well. All these years later I am keenly aware of what solid basics I learned at Faust’s USA Karate.

You and your family will benefit from the solid training at Kathy Faust's school. If you’re seeking fitness, self defense or just fun training … check out Faust’s USA Karate. You will love it!

Started with Faust's USA Karate when my young children began training in 1990. They earned their Black Belts, and I still train! Faust's USA Karate is a great place to be with wonderful people who are another family to me.

Sensei Kathy Faust and her staff are doing a wonderful job keeping us Covid free by offering classes on Zoom, Facebook Live, and even outdoor classes as well as indoors in a socially distanced environment. After training for many years, I appreciate the many options now available during the pandemic.

We joined during COVID and Faust Karate and the experience has been phenomenal! In-door classes with tape on the floor for social distancing with masks required and Zoom / Facebook live sessions. Instructors are great with kids and our 5 year old is loving it so far.

My daughter has been attending Faust's USA Karate for almost 1.5 years and we love everything about it. As a parent, what I like most is that she is learning to respect herself and others, as well as gain confidence. During the pandemic, Faust's USA Karate has been incredibly accommodating. They have offered several outdoor classes, indoor classes, as well as Zoom classes each week. I feel as though my daughter has not missed out on any progress and has adjusted well, learning to be flexible and appreciate her time in the Dojo. They have also gone above and beyond to make sure everyone feels safe and stays healthy during the pandemic with extra sanitizing and distancing measures.

They are amazing here! We love it and became a karate family! We started with one kid and now myself and 2 kids do it! The baby can’t wait to start!! This place has A family atmosphere, and is small enough that everyone gets to know each other. They truly care about our family, which you don’t see too much these days anymore! You choose when you want to go, during the week and when it works for you! So you don’t have to plan ahead, and if something comes up and you need to change days around, it is ok! They are so so accommodating! There are times when my spouse is working late and I have to do karate with my 16 month old next to me! The atmosphere is very positive and they work on building everyone’s self-confidence! Even the adults! It isn’t just self-defense, it is a whole new better you! They are always giving back to the community! I could go on for days, why this is the most amazing martial arts place in all of Monroe County! Sensai Jason is amazing with kids! Mr. Cooper teaches some great classes, that will give you a great workout, and if you can accept the challenge, Sensai Faust’s classes might make you want to puke, the workout is so great! (These are adult classes) Lol. But, really you get out, what you put into it! As an adult you can take classes with your kids or the adult classes! Didn’t I say they are amazing! Classes are available, just about everyday!

I am a 33 year old mother of 2. I started bringing my 4 year old daughter a few months ago and immediately saw the value in it. I decided to join myself and have found it to be very valuable “me time”. I don’t always want to go to class but the people there are so supportive and encouraging that I find myself continue to go, week after week. I am gaining strength I’ve always wanted and can do a lot for than one push up! The students range in all levels and there are classes for everybody so beginners can learn from those more experienced. Our adult Wednesday morning instructor (Mr. Cooper) keeps you laughing during the planks and the children’s teacher (Sensei Jason) keeps it fun with the patience of a saint. It has been great. I look forward to many more classes.

My son has been coming here since December, and we love it! His confidence has increased dramatically, and he has shown more respect to others around him. He’s also become more responsible, and I know it’s because of karate. The dojo has plenty of fun events for the kids, and my son looks forward to coming every time. The sensei’s who work at Faust are great! Very patient, fun and engaging. Would highly recommend coming here!

I began taking martial arts at the age of 14 at Faust’s USA Karate. Almost 15 years later I can honestly say that my life has been completely changed in a positive direction because of the instructors and fellow students here. Not only did training at USA Karate give me the opportunity to become more fit and learn physical skills to defend myself, but it has also given me the gift of being able to learn side-by-side with my brother and my sister and bring us closer together. It has helped me to grow from a shy teen who had few friends and turned red whenever I had to speak in front of people into a confident person who thoroughly enjoys leading groups of 50+ people. Last, but definitely not least, Faust’s USA Karate, the instructors, and the students, have provided me with a consistent, positive place that has been there for me through thick and thin. Taking class has never failed to put me in a better mood after class than I was when I walked in!

I joined Sensei Faust's team with the simple goal of learning a little self defense. Three years later, I am quite confident with my self defense skills as well as my life skills. In the last few months I have also begun training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am in the best physical and mental shape of my life at 40 and I am certain that Sensei Faust has helped me in that journey. She provides a safe, fun and positive environment where you can train hard to be a better martial artist and a better person in general. They are very focused on the community and often promote opportunities to volunteer. It feels like a family there and I always enjoy my time spent at the dojo.

I was getting so much out of training at Faust's USA karate that I enrolled my kids in the juniors program. They have progressed in so many areas. Their self control, respect and confidence continue to improve every day. The dojo has also hosted a few birthday parties for them. The instructors make it fun for the kids and also very entertaining for the adults.

I have and will continue to recommend this dojo to anyone looking for a great martial arts program.

Completely appalled by this place! I was looking online on Groupon for martial arts centers for my 5 year old son, when I first called to ask what martial arts they offer, I couldn't understand the person on the phone at first because they were mumbling. So I asked what they offer and i didn't know what style it was when she said it on the phone, they then asked if I knew anything about martial arts I said I do not but my hubby knows a little. They then said "oh wow then he should know what that style is! Guess not.." um ok. So I decided to call back thinking there was miscommunication, nope! The second guy I talked to was even more rude!!! I asked what types they offered and tried this o explain the previous person was rude and his response was "ok I asked what I can do for you?" and I responded with telling him I was looking into purchasing a Groupon for classes for my son as a perspective customer to which he cut me off saying, " no you're not a customer you're buying a Groupon you want to try it not buy classes for real" ummm yeah that's what Groupon are for! I will never send my child to this place they're so beyond rude and I wouldn't want them handing that down to my son!

My son used to take karate from another dojo. I never felt as much a part of a family as I do here. I had always wanted to take karate however I prefer to workout during the day because I work from home. Here they offer Mon. Wed mornings at 9 am & Sat at 9:00 am. It is a great workout, very empowering for me as a woman to know how to handle myself if I were ever attacked & the philosophies and values are in line w/mine & as a consultant for MaryKay cosmetics. Treat others as you want to be treated yourself. Everyone at the dojo is very welcoming and it is a positive environment. As you move up in belts there are positive affirmations you will memorize. They are very involved in giving back such as: National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, Willow Domestic Violence Center, Causely just to name a few. In order to earn your black belt you have to pick a charity and collect donations for it too. If you have ever thought about giving Karate a try for yourself, your kids the whole family I highly recommend it.

My son has been a student for almost 2 years and hopefully will continue for many more years to come. Children learn much more than karate moves, they learn about respect for others, self discipline and being a good friend and helper. Faust's USA Karate also has many other events and camps throughout the year that provide the children with great opportunities for fun. Its also a great place to have a birthday party, as we had my son's 6th birthday party last year and all the guests had a great time. There is a real family-feel in the dojo that is very welcoming and encouraging for all. The Senseis go out of their way to make each child feel proud of their accomplishments. We have enjoyed our experience and would absolutely recommend Faust's USA Karate!

Now that I’m nearing the middle part of my life, I look back, and see with great clarity the foundation to my success; the root of my joy and happiness, learned virtues, the breath of confidence that has never left my lungs – since the age of thirteen – when the eight transformative years of hard work and dedication culminated in the most magnanimous moment of my youth, earning and receiving my blackbelt, before my family – before my support unit. The accomplishment never fades, and the built character through this process of training – through the setting, reaching, and achieving of goals – is a type of character that everyone should pursue to emulate.
As a child, adolescent, and early teen, I didn’t quite understand the totality of my training until I became a young adult. Beyond the confidence in knowing that I was physically able to meet any challenge – with fists of defense if needed – it was the embodiment of such practiced terms like: perseverance, respect, humility, and courage, that guided me strong and safely through the everyday turmoil, high school, college, and beyond.
I have been able to swim through life – as if were one long kata – a fluent and orchestrated sequence of movements. I have been able to make the right decisions concerning my actions and behavior. I have been able to go deep into the center of my chest and smile upon the bliss that resides. I can walk a straight a line. I can punch through a board. I am honor. I am compassion. And I am just one of the many fortunate blackbelt club members – one of the many living, moving, breathing examples – that can all pridefully bow, and recite the same sentiment: Thank you Sensei Faust. Thank you for your guidance.
With a lifetime of gratitude,
Junior Blackbelt, Sensei Jeffrey Aaron Stubits

My wife, 3 children and I joined the Faust Karate family in March. It was the best decision We have ever made. The entire team is amazing and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and like part of the family. The change I have seen in my children is astounding. My daughter has gained so much self confidence, my 2 younger sons are becoming more focused and helpful around the house. The team has taught me a lot and have helped me grow as a leader also. The fitness aspect is great, but it is all the other intangibles that you will walk away with that matter the most.

There are so very many reasons we have loved Faust's Karate - the emphasis on respect and positivity, the effort to know both family and child, the welcoming environment and fun programs. Now we have a new reason: awesome birthday parties!! Our son held his 8th birthday party at Faust's and I cannot say enough about how much fun they all had! This was an ACTIVE group and Sensei Jason and Mr. Cooper handled them like the pros they are - keeping them busy with fun games, lots of activities, chances to learn, practice and kick the big bags! The birthday boy even got to break a board at the end of the night, his highlight for sure! My highlight? Enjoying this party full of positive messages and ample activities for rambunctious, excited kids - and knowing it wasn't at my house! Thank you, Faust's, for everything you do.

My bride just joined Faust's karate and I had a chance to watch a full class advance last night. A few things really struck me. One, there is a strong emphasis on fitness. This is not a place to learn the moves and simply advance. People will get fit as well. Second, the students worked very well together and had great attitudes. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the attitude was positive and they strive to transfer the lessons learned at karate to real life. I'm so glad my bride chose this atmosphere in which to learn!

When I was looking for a karate school for my son, I wanted one that had longevity, history and experienced instructors. I found that at Faust USA Karate. I drive past 4-5 other schools to get there. Shortly after my son started training, his school teachers would comment on his great focus in class. Now high honor roll is the norm for him. Since this is a family school, I started training with my son, and saw my strength, balance and cardio increase very quickly. Since I've been training I've lost 40lbs. We have both earned our black belts now and continue to train. This dojo also holds workshops with some world renowned martial artists. This dojo has a culture second to none. The staff and members are not only interested in your journey in karate, but your personal growth as well. Respect, honesty, self-control and perseverance are as important if not more important than the physical training.

The respect between the members can be experienced during every class. When we train we train as a team to improve our own techniques as well our fellow team members. I owe my advancement in the art to not only the staff but to the various members who have taken their time to help me before or after class to hone the various techniques and katas.

Whether your 5 or 50 (or older) and have ever thought about martial arts for exercise, personal well being or self defense, (my personal favorite), USA Karate is the place to train.

My family has been training with Faust’s USA Karate for 2 ½ years. Our experience has been nothing but amazing. You can be having a horrible day and then you walk into karate, take a class, and walk out a better person for having done so. The environment of the dojo is very accepting. Everyone moves at their own pace with time and opportunities to hone their skills. The instructors are aware of each person’s strengths and sets individual goals for each person. This allows for maximum growth within each person.
The most beneficial parts to our training, among getting a great workout, have been learning confidence, standing up for yourself, and character traits which make you a good leader. These skills are amazing for any child to be taught and it’s amazing to watch your child grow within these areas. Our daughter was extremely self-conscious when we began training; she would never participate in her classes at school and had difficulty making friends because she was so shy. Now, she participates without hesitation at school and is making new friends easily. As a parent, to see your child grow and succeed is pretty awesome.
Being a teacher, the training that is provided for the STORM (Special Team of Role Models) training is better than any education I received in order to become a teacher. The skills learned in this training are skills that can be applied to my own classroom. I find myself using these skills daily.
Our lives have changed for the better with karate. We have a 20 minute drive each way, and it is well worth the time for the experience we are getting. I can’t say enough about Faust’s, it’s been a life changing experience for us all!

Best workout you can get! As a student at Faust's USA Karate for well over 10 years, I can truly say that there is no better workout available. The energy created by a class filled with motivated students cannot be duplicated in any gym, and the self-development and positive growth is not just for kids. Instead of the same routine at a gym, why not apply your effort toward a goal? At every level, from a beginner white belt to a seasoned black belt and beyond, there is the right amount of personal challenge and staff support to keep you interested without becoming frustrating. The sense of accomplishment and confidence that students gain cannot be matched, and with other classes and special events such as Tai Chi and yoga, every night is a fresh and fun experience.

The classes are huge, there is no one-on-one attention. They make up rules on the fly, and are disrespectful, thus they don't practice what they preach. It makes you feel as though they are in it for the money and they are definitely not The Best School in Rochester. They are really good at marketing not teaching Karate. Many parents complain but have no way out because they make you sign up for 3 years, so parents have a choice of using up time or quit and still pay for their 3 year contract. These are unfair business practices which leave customers with no choice but to attend the classes or loose money. The contract that they make you sign is not legal, and they don't give you a copy of it. Steer clear of Faust USA Karate, there are better high quality alternatives.

Thinking that karate is only for the younger crowd or that's it's only about learning self-defense? Let me share that I started training at Faust's a few months ago at age 56 and even though I sit at a desk all day (so I didn't start 'in shape'), the folks at Faust's have guided and encouraged me in a supportive and intentional manner every step of the way. Yes, I am learning self-defense (hey, you never know) and at the same time, I'm growing stronger and regaining flexibility, balance, endurance and physical agility. I've got plenty of excuses to not do this (karate) - yet the folks at Faust's USA Karate remind me all the time of the reasons I need to do this. It's my journey and these folks make it a lot of fun! Take just one step and visit Faust's to learn more. I'm grateful everyday that I did.

It has been such fun these last 6 years moving from white belt to earning my black last May. I had amazing support at home through it all, and everyone at the dojo helped to make the journey successful, meaningful and one I will always remember. Just like with scouts and robotics, the dojo is almost like a second family to me, and it is thanks to every person who trains hard, teaches, and pushes us to find every bit of strength we have in every way. I will be sure to stop by for visits and to come in during breaks like the other college kids do. Again, thank you all so, so much!

Fitness is important to me and in the past 30+ years I have belonged to several gyms. Having trained at USA Karate for about four years now I can honestly say there is no comparison. Never have I been more enthused about exercise and never have I benefitted more from my training. After enrolling my son and watching him for a few classes I decided to train with him. Admittedly I had some apprehension about participating in such a physical sport as an adult, but those concerns were quickly dispelled. That was four years ago and my son (now 11) and I are both physically and mentally stronger for it. (And not once have I ever had to push him to go to class!)

The fitness and martial arts training is excellent. Sensei Faust and Sensei Jason Lawniczak have exceptional ability as both martial artists and instructors. They are committed to helping me be the best that I can be given my “age and stage.” Every class is an opportunity to learn something new, improve on skills, and challenge myself to move out of my comfort zone.

But the training offers more than physical benefits. Throughout the curriculum, and at all skill and age levels, Sensei Faust incorporates subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) messaging about the importance of respect, integrity, honesty, self-control, and perseverance. Every student from white belt to black belt, regardless of age, understands that internalizing these traits and incorporating them into our lives is a crucial component of truly becoming a black belt.

Sensei Faust has built an exceptional dojo. All of the instructors are skilled and professional. The curriculum is structured, comprehensive, and always interesting. The martial arts techniques are challenging, practical, and safe (and pretty cool, too.) And all of this happens in a welcoming, family friendly atmosphere.

Her school is also community focused – particularly when it comes to the safety of children. Just one example is the dojo’s support of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Each year a group from the dojo participates in the Center’s 100 mile benefit bike ride (I am one of them.) In the past seven years we have raised over $80,000 for NCMEC in Rochester.

As many have done before us, my son and I are training together. Our journey to becoming a black belt is helping to shape the way we live our lives inside and outside the dojo – at school, at work and at home. It is an experience we will share for a lifetime.

If you are considering a martial arts school for your child and/or yourself, I encourage you to stop reading, pick up the phone, and schedule a visit to Faust’s USA Karate. Talk with the person that greets you at the door (that’s right – someone will be there to welcome you into the dojo.) Then go compare if you think you still need to.

We are fortunate to have a school of this caliber in our community and I am thrilled to be a part of it.

My expierence at Faust's USA Karate has been amazing. Everyone there is welcoming and friendly and as soon as you come in you feel like you've been there for years. All of the teachers are helpful and are there for you no matter what. Going to karate has made me more confident, and most certainly a better person. They teach you all of the correct components to be a great martial artist and certainly a how to have a positive attidue, confidence, respect, self control and more. Everyone tells me they see an improvement in many things, from my grades at school to having a stronger more open mind to things. Everything about Faust's USA Karate is great, I could go on and on for more pages about how excellent this karate school is. It certainly has changed me for the better.

What a terrific place! My family started training around 18 months ago. It first started with my 3rd child doing Little Champs. He enjoyed it so much my oldest son became interested as well and started training 10 months ago. My daughter not wanting to be left out of the fun joined too. Our youngest boy was so excited to watch the other kids train he couldn't wait to start! The minute he turned 4 he had to get signed up right away! While they all benefit immensely from the training received as USA Karate it's interesting to see that they all benefit in similar but slightly different ways. My youngest benefits from things like following directions and having an absolute blast in Little Champs. My 3rd child has grown up so much in Little Champs and seeing him progress and become stronger, more confident, and better disciplined has been a joy. My daughter gets a lot out of the core strength training that we do and it helps her be a stronger and bettter diver. (Her primary out of school activity is competitive diving) I think my oldest child has benefited the most. His increased flexibility, strength and speed has been very noticible. However it is the improvement in his self confidence and his willingness to put himself out there that has been the biggest change since he began training. The most obvious example of this was when there was a much larger boy threating to hit one of his younger brothers. He quickly put himself between this would be bully and his brother and looked him in they eye, put his hands up in defensive position, and said STOP. This quickly diffused the situation and did so without escalating the conflict. I'm 100% certain that this sort of thing would never have happened without his training. I started training around the same time as he has and can't say enough good things about the school, instructors, and fellow students. The higher ranking belts set a great example led by Sensei Faust and Sensei Jason. Everyone encourages each other to try their best without ever making us feel self conscious. I enjoy the training so much I go out of my way to get to as many classes as my schedule allows. I strongly recommend anyone interested in physical fitness, self defense, or the martial arts give USA Karate a try. You won't regret it!

Faust's USA Karate is a family oriented dojo with flexible training hours and supportive instructors that inspire and encourage karateka of all levels. The training environment enables students to learn and progress at their own rate earning their way to a Black Belt. Additional seminars are often held that feature guest sensei who train in multiple styles. In addition to training students engage in community service and work to maintain high academic standards.

My son is now a focused, confident, mature, high school senior. Several years ago we earned our Black Belts and continue to train to maintain our physical fitness and focus. Practicing martial arts provides a holistic approach to mental and physical training (cardio, strength, flexibility). I highly recommend Faust's USA Karate for people of all ages and abilities.

Since I’ve started training, I’ve noticed many different changes in my life.
First, since my whole family trains together, I’ve noticed that we’ve grown closer. We all have a common interest and goal now and we share it on the same level. The lines between adults and kids is blurred a little as we work on the same techniques on our way to black belt. I find myself asking the kids for help or clarification on the various goals I’m working on since they are the training veterans in the family and that’s pretty cool.
I have also noticed a tremendous amount of improvement in my own abilities. I’m becoming faster, stronger, and I feel healthier overall. Things are getting easier and more routine, but new challenges keep me on my toes.
The reinforcement of mutual respect and absence of judgment at the dojo has boosted my self-confidence both in the training environment and in my personal and professional life. Overall, I feel more self-confident and sure of myself and my abilities. Surrounding oneself with positive, like-minded, encouraging people has an amazingly positive effect on the soul. The folks at the dojo are like a second family. I find people are so willing to help and encourage and this causes me to want to do the same. There is a definite pay-it-forward mentality present.
As I get older, I’ve realized the need for more exercise in my life. I’ve never been one for the gym (pick stuff up, put stuff down) or organized sports and have always enjoyed solo sports (running and skiing) so Karate is a great fit for me. Progress can be measured, but progress can be made at one’s own pace…and its fun!
Lastly, I appreciate the positive effects that karate has had on my children and my wife. Seeing them all engaged and excited about something as positive as this makes me happy. Seeing the kids become more respectful and committed and seeing their self-confidence increase is great!
When I think about the positive changes I’ve seen so far, both in myself and my family, I feel energized and excited for what lies ahead.

My Heroes are Kathy Faust, Jason Lawinzcack and Mr. Cooper. They are the Instructors at Faust’s USA Karate. They have provided motivation, inspiration and given dedication. They are an outstanding group of role models. Both within martial arts and out of it.
What makes Jason my Hero is that he is always working harder to get to the next 110%. He is constantly looking at himself and thinking “how can I get better”. He is also always at the dojo from early to late. And takes time out of his day sometimes even when he doesn’t have to do things for others. Jason is also a good leader. He can handle kids of all ages, from babies to teenagers. It’s very easy to get along with him. He also pushes anyone who trains with him. He knows how to motivate. He is a good teacher and helps us get ready for tournaments. Even if he isn’t competing or refereeing he is always there to support us. Sensei Jason has influenced me to be a better person by making me bring my best and making me raise others to their best and above.
Kathy Faust is also part of the team. She started Faust’s USA Karate 25 years ago and has kept it running. In addition to running a top notch, clean and family friendly dojo, She brings in top class athletes like Royce Gracie, Royler Gracie and Coach Kearns. She has answers to a lot of questions and if she doesn’t she’ll tell you. She is also an honest person and will give you her honest opinion or thought. Kathy Faust also makes you think. If you go to her with a problem she will lead you into you coming up with a solution. Sensei Kathy Faust has helped me become a better person by teaching me valuable life lessons and skills as well as bringing in people that will help raise my level of martial arts and life skills.
Mr. Cooper is also another member of the team. He can handle a lot of problems without losing control of it or losing control of himself. He can teach classes that have both beginner and more advanced people in it. And ones that have both younger and older people. He is a friendly person and often spends time meeting with people and talking to them. He welcomes everyone that comes in with a welcoming smile. he is also a great person to train with. He raises the atmosphere in the room. Mr. Cooper has helped me become a better person by being an example of how to handle situations and greet and meet people.
These are just 3 of the amazing people on the Faust’s USA Karate team. All of them are outstanding men and woman who give their 110% and never give up at the first sign of trouble and will work with you to become a better person.
