We absolutely love coming here. We’ve been taking our daughter here since she was about 1 and we started in the mommy and me class, and she is now in mini 3. The entire staff, from the front desk to all of the instructors always are happy to help in anyway possible. When our daughter first transitioned from mommy and me to being in the class on her own she really struggled without us being in the pool. All of the instructors, especially Alex, gave her extra attention and helped in many ways to make her and us feel comfortable. We always love coming here and our daughter has developed lifelong skills.

Take your fussy toddler here! So happy we found this swim school. My 2.5yo did swim classes at a rec center for almost 2 years and barely made any progress and often didn't want to participate. Did a trial at a different swim school close to home and he still wasn't interested. Then we did a trial at Goldfish Garden City, and in one class I think he "swam" more than in 2 yrs of other lessons, enjoyed it and began learning techniques. I want him to be able to save himself first and foremost, and of course to also enjoy swimming. The science of play (did I get that right?) is a game changer as is the heated pool, small classes, and instructors focus on each individual child's needs. 4 classes in now LO is improving more than I've ever seen and I think he can almost do a little stroke on his own. He looks forward to class, wants to get right into the pool, and is laughing and having a ball more than half the time. He's still feisty and not always listening but the instructors have creative ways to keep their interest. I've never seen him participate so much. So we drive 30 minutes to and from class, for a 30 minute class, because it's worth it. Just try it.

We’ve been members of this swim school during two separate periods—In 2018 and then again starting in 2024. Over the years, we’ve had multiple children enrolled, from the infant classes all the way up to the “swim team” level.

While the program does help children learn to swim and most of the staff are friendly, our overall experience has been mixed. One of the biggest issues we've encountered is the inconsistency of the coaching staff. There is frequent substitutes, which makes it hard for kids to build trust and continuity with their instructors. One of the substitute coaches held our 3-year-old’s head under water repeatedly as part of a lesson which scared him so much that he didn’t want to return for over a month. It then took a month of 1:1 lessons and lots of reassurance to get him back into the pool. That instructor is no longer with this company.

We’ve also noticed that classes often end early—our children are regularly released around the 25-minute mark, despite paying for a full 30-minute session. Additionally, the pool staff often seem unsure when asked basic questions, which contributes to a lack of confidence in the overall organization. This has been our case every time we schedule a makeup class, the coaches are always confused, even though it was scheduled a week in advance and part of their protocol.

All of these concerns we've raised with management have been addressed at the time. However, improvements don’t always seem to last, and the issues tend to recur.

In the end, we do believe this school will teach your child to swim, and we appreciate the staff’s friendliness, however, given the premium pricing, we hoped for a more consistent and high-quality experience—something that, unfortunately, has not been our experience.

We recently had our first swim lesson here and I can’t say enough nice things about the staff and facility. Julie at the front desk and Alex the manager went above and beyond to accommodate us and make us feel welcome, even helping me with a shirt because I forgot a change for my son! It’s rare to find such exceptional customer service these days so really said a lot about the place. The facility is very large, clean, and had extra touches to make the kids feel special. Second update: they charged us for yet another month as if we had subscription. They are relying on you not paying attention to see what they can get away with. Disgraceful.

Update- updating to 3 stars because they reached out to allow me to book the rest of classes. If he actually gets to swim for survival afterwards I'll update further.

Paid for a pack of classes, they don't tell you in advance that:
- you can only reschedule classes you miss/they cancel and floaters(included in package) within the time the original classes were allocated or you will lose them.
- they automatically will start charging you for monthly classes even if you only agreed to a set package.
We just lost a bunch of classes and got extra charged. It's insane they are in business.
On top of that.. my kid after almost 900 usd doesn't know how to even swim for survival. There is a 4 to 1 kid ratio in classes so for 30m they barely get any practice time. They do the same thing over and over even if it isn't progressing the kids.
Please go somewhere else!

My 3yr old is on his 6th lesson. His confidence, and comfort have improved TREMENDOUSLY. Dustin has been an amazing instructor. Every time we walk in the door we are greeted with a big smile. Alex (whom I assume is a manager) goes out of his way to make sure we are well-informed, happy, and most of all that everyone is SAFE!!! Very happy with the school. The place is clean, the staff are courteous, and the instructors are patient and kind. My daughter has made tremendous progress during the time she was here. It took her a little bit over a year and a half from not knowing how to swim at all into swim force. She was 7 when she started. And this was with her taking some time off (about 2.5months) because she unfortunately broke her arm. I can see the difference in her swimming compared to her friends who casually swim and are not goldfish trained. She is stronger in swimming and has better form. These guys will rip you off with monthly subscription. They said in the beginning that we can have makeup classes if we can not attend. But later they would charge us to take the makeup class if it ran into another month. I ended my memberhip for the month of January but still they charged us for the month of February without even letting us know. It is wrong that just because they have our credit card information that they can keep on chaging us without even letting us know. Trainers in general are very good but the management is terrible.

We love Goldfish Swim School in Garden City! Our older child learned how to swim here, and now our younger one is learning. All of the instructors are kind and patient, as are the staff at the front desk. Sure, there can be turnover with instructors, but we've never had an instructor that we haven't been pleased with. Subscription service model meant to rip you off. Forgot to cancel monthly subscription and despite my daughter not going for months at a time and not realizing my subscription was active, i was never contacted or emailed which is what good customer service would do versus just cashing in on their rip off model. When I approached them for a refund, they would only allow credits for additional classes. When my daughter did actually go, The instructors changed every week so they never knew the actual progress of my daughter in hopes of helping improve her swimming overtime. My daughter had some good instructors but the majority of them didn’t seem to care about the kids or the progress of them improving their swimming skills. I also approached goldfish about this concern and they basically washed their hands of it. In my opinion, it was a true waste of time, money, my daughter got nothing out of it and I would definitely not recommend them to others.

I don't usually leave reviews but this was needed.
I enrolled my daughter in their mini one from March 2024- April 2024. We didn't have the same instructor at all. In which they said they try to keep the kids favorite teacher. I get it people quit and don't show up for work. Lack of unreasonable employees.....
So two times I've had to miss the class because I'm a mother with cancer. Many times people told me I can make up the classes later in the year so I didn't think anything of it.... until her last day (4/30) we couldn't make it for unforseen circumstances they advised me I couldn't make up the classes as the classes has ended and I'm considered no longer a member of their school. I've asked to speak to a manager/ supervisor since then and it's now 5/3 and nobody has called me. I will NEVER RETURN OR ADVISE FRIENDS OR FAMILY TO COME HERE. It's costly as hell and they teach you the same things at EVERY CLASS.
I'm very upset. I need some refund for their lack of unreasonable employees and not even accommodating.

Facility offers amenities such as hair dryer, swim suit dryer, enough changing rooms and restrooms, snack bar and cubbies that other swim academies do not typically offer. The most important aspect is the cancellation policy which is most flexible compared to any other schools.

I have seen a lot of progress for both my kids within 2-3 lessons. The instructors pay a lot of attention to each child and very specific feedback at the end of each session which is very helpful. I had an issue with a class one time and the manager - Alex was very empathetic, spent time to understand the issue and helped resolve the situation right away so that we had the best experience. We’ve been going to Goldfish since almost a year now. The staff, the instructors, facility is top notch. But today was special because we had the best experience ever. Shout out to Jordan, my daughter’s instructor for today’s class. We made the mistake of bringing a bath toy that my daughter would not let go of. She had a major tantrum going into the water when the toy was taken from her. Jordan worked with her and managed to calm her down by talking to her and drawing her attention away from the toy. I have 2 sons that have been members of your school for the past 2 and a half years. One is 6 and the other is 5. They are confident swimmers, even jumping off of the diving board and swimming at the beach. The peace of mind this has given me is priceless. The staff make you feel like family. I absolutely love this place. My 13 year old daughter started there years ago and now my 3 year old son is starting lessons.
On my second day there, Kwesi ( not sure of spelling) recognized my son and greeted him by his first name. This was such a welcoming sign to me as my son is non verbal, and is usually glued to my leg as we walk around the place.
My son has autism, and he has great fear of the pool. The patience and skills shown by some of the instructors melt my heart. After the first lesson I really thought they would return my money and send us home lol. I thought that there’s no way they will keep him. Instead I was meant with understanding, patience and so much love for my baby.
Shoutouts to : Junior, Jonah, Angelina ( the first to get him to kick on his own,; I could hug her), and Jonathan. They have all shown so much patience and skills in getting him comfortable in the water. When we come for family swim, Jonathan is always there offering me tip to help my son. What a wonderful young man.

The people who work here are definitely worth the trip. Their kindness is contagious! After a long day of work then dragging two toddlers to a late activity, the Goldfish swim staff definitely help out. I have two active boys. One who swims and one who runs around. Q is always trying to make the experience pleasant for all. I gave them a 4 star rating bc it really is painful to pay the price increase after being a loyal customer. My son has been coming here for the past 2 months. It is about a 40 mins drive to and from but it's so worth it. With absolutely no previous experience in swimming- he is already comfortable going underwater. The instructors are very patient and kind. They're also very careful and I appreciate that. I cannot wait to see how much he progresses for the remainder of his time here.
I love the ribbons that are handed out everytime they achieve a goal. It's a great motivator.

My one-year-old absolutely loves going to swim class at Goldfish Swim School. Her instructor, Danielle, is seriously the best. She's so patient with the little ones and you can tell she really enjoys working with them. I've noticed such a big improvement in my daughter's skills – at just one year old, she's already comfortable going underwater. Honestly, I wouldn't want any other instructor.

My daughter is apprehensive of male instructors and this past week had a male substitute. I alerted the sub to the situation and he handled it amazingly well. He got the attention of his supervisor to help and they were able to add a female instructor to assist in order to make my daughter more comfortable. We’ve been to other swim schools and the level of empathy of all of the workers at goldfish far surpasses the others! I took my 5 year old to goldfish to learn to swim. The classes are short but in 3 classes he gained some confidence in the water and could semi float. We missed a class and were told we could call to schedule a makeup. However we went away on vacation and I was charged for an additional 4 classes. When I realized this while I was away I called the 1-800 number and canceled the recurring fee but was told that I would get 5 make up classes because I paid for them. THAT WAS NOT TRUE! I just called and tried to reschedule for the classes I paid for and was told I couldn't unless I paid for 4 additional classes. My advice to future customers is to read the fine print of what you are agreeing to when you go to goldfish. The 4 class sign up is RECURRING, they charge you continually.
Also, even if you pay for classes but miss them, you can't make them up unless you pay for more classes. Yes, it was my fault for not reading the fine print on makeups but I just can't believe that a company would charge you for a service and not let you have that service. So disappointed!

Goldfish Swim School Garden City is a great and pleasant place for kids to learn how to swim. My little boy loves it. Alex Sarbanes, one of the Managers of this place has an amazing attitude towards customer satisfaction. Alex knows what to do and how to do it. He listened to our observations and questions and organized the lessons very well. He is helping the little kids becoming better and better with every training session . My daughter has been here for over two months and in a half hour session shared with four kids she gets 10 mins with an instructor, this is not worth it if your child is new to swimming. The school should have more of a one on one session with smaller children until they have a full grasp of the water. This is my opinion as I've been here for her lessons.

Poor customer service . Front desk clerk Ryen had an attitude, I said good morning and she cut me off immediately saying I ain’t log in yet go to her. You ain’t log in , but you are on the clock . They need to learned how to talk to people majority of the staff got an attitude . If you don’t like your job quit .

This school and their customer service is the worst I have ever come across. My daughter took sick and could not go back to swimming and when I asked for my refund for the past 3 months I was told each time that 10 to 12 business days I will receive my money back. It is now two months and still nothing. Spoke with two managers thus far and was promised a return call and to this day no call. Totally disappointed in their service.
As for the lessons that is a waste of time. 20 minutes of instructions however because it's 4 to 5 kids your child only gets 5 minutes.

Excellent instructors, clean functional facility, great app! My 2 girls (2 and 3 years old) have made amazing progress at this swim school and look forward to it every week. They have the same instructor so they get comfortable and the ribbon reward system motivates them to progress and learn critical skills in the water. Overall we couldn't ask for anything more. Bit pricey but you get what you pay for and worth it for them to learn this life saving skill. Clearly being run the right way.

Our instructor today (Alex) was INCREDIBLE with our hesitant little boy. Our son has NEVER swam without puddle jumper or bubble and is terrified of the whatever but within 5 minutes with Alex he was no longer hesitant and willing to try anything- stuff he wouldn't do in his old swim school even after 1.5 years. Alex modified his lesson to gently scaffold and challenge him. We were blown away. The facility is spotless and so kid friendly. Thank you.

Friendly staff at the front desk and office. Morning instructors and guards are very professional. We have noticed some staff in the afternoons who are not really focused, their eyes wonder around, and are not very engaged. We have loved Delia, Thaina, and Melanie because they are always approachable, happy, and engaged in their lessons. We love the flexibility and accommodations when it comes to make ups and absences. However, we do wish they had more advanced level classes in the mornings such as junior and glider classes. Overall we would highly recommend this swim school.

I wanted to give a shout out to Kristin the coach for our daughter who is <3 years old.  Ou daughter arrived for her 2nd swim class and started crying and was not too eager to get into the water. Kristin was amazing. She gave our daughter a lot of attention and reassured her. She encouraged her despite the crying and engaged her in swim activities and by end of the class our daughter was loving it. Today, a week later, she arrived for her swim class and got right into the water with coach Kristin.

Horrific experience. My son was moved up to the next level (glider 2), and on his first day we witnessed an instructor scream at a child like a maniac, everyone was shocked. How was she not fired on the spot? Disgusting, shameful behavior- she is not fit to teach, let alone be around children. My son witnessed it as well and was then nervous to swim with her, leading this same instructor to then tell us he’s not ready for this level and should be moved back to the lower level. While his two previous instructors (he was attending two classes per week) were the ones that moved him up. How embarrassing. Shame on goldfish for hiring such unprofessional teachers, and for not taking corrective actions when they are completely out of line. This is not the first we heard of Goldfish instructors being “rough” and verbally abusive towards students. We immediately canceled our membership.

This swim school has worked wonders with my son who was so traumatized by a rival swim school. The swim instructor made him so confident and comfortable that he has quickly accelerated 3 levels in a matter of months. My daughter also goes there and has progressed as well. Some of the best instructors I’ve experienced are Jacob and Zoe. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. All the other lifeguards and staff are pleasant. The facility is clean and welcoming.

This place is an absolute joke. Very high turn over with instructors. Most of the instructors are horrible. Same exact class every single time. They will NOT teach your kids how to swim. The only benefit is a little bonding with your child in the very beginners classes when you go in with them. I’ve tried other levels. They are all horrible. Stay away from this place.

Pros: Clean facility, friendly staff, easy to use customer portal and flexible class makeup policy. Cons: Half an hour is not enough when there are 3-4 kids in one class. My kid would swim maybe 3 times in one class. Teachers also play favorites and give more attention to certain students in a group which further takes away swim time from other kids. Classes are not even a full 30 minutes in length as there are a few minutes at the beginning and end of the class when kids are leaving from the prior class and then they ask you to pick your kid up at the end of your class. So all in all, the actual class time is about 25 minutes and your kid swims perhaps 10 minutes of it. Absolutely not worth the money.

My child, family, and I love this place! Please please please if you’re interested in putting your child in a swimming school, go here! The staff and instructors are so loving, genuine and patient. The area where the school is, is also convenient and quiet as well. You have many shopping activities near by but most importantly, your child will be learning pool safety and other techniques in no time! My son started in July and now here we are in January he has shown Tremendous improvement in the water. He’ll soon be 2yo and will be ready to swim with the instructors alone without me having to be in the water. So this business is paying their workers up to $14 an hour when they are doing group lessons and making at least $352 an hour per lane.

They keep going up on prices but not going up on quality of lessons. Parents are paying $1.50 a minute for 30 minutes that isn't even dedicated to one child, it is spread out amongst 4-5 kids... The price is outweighing the quality of the service.

My son started here in March 2021 and is now in glider 2, which he’s been in since October of 2021. The instructors have turned over so many times and I’ve been told that he would be moving up and still nothing. The last instructor Mr. Wray said he would be moving up and that was in October. I always check the progress reports and it’s very inconsistent. One week he got every star and the next it went down by 3. So you’re saying he lost all of those skills in one week! Please do a better job with your evaluations. Today, he sat on the bench for 15 mins for his half hour class and probably swam 4 times. I’m not paying for this, my enrollment has been dropped and will be going back to the Y where my daughter learned and received an evaluation every 8 weeks. The facility is nice and the enrollment process is what I liked about this school but I’m not going to continue if I can’t fathom what I’m paying for.

I have had a golden experience at Goldfish, the teachers are all wonderful and friendly. My daughter's first instructor, Jacob, brought out the best in her. I like that goldfish has flexibility that works with busy schedule and life events. Will recommend Goldfish to anyone, the price is also reasonable.

The facilities are very clean. The staff is warm and friendly. The swim lessons are short but well focused! My kids (5&7 years) have been swimming with Dontae for only 2 months and both have made great progress and are now swimming independently in an extremely short space of time. Dontae is an absolutely fantastic instructor. He is very patient yet firm and has the knack for being able to communicate well with children. He is an asset to your organization.
