I’ve had a stop and start fitness journey, and ever since becoming a dad, it has never been clearer that strength in FUNDAMENTAL to being a good and available and FUN parent for my kids.
Sure, there is a *slight* CrossFit vibe to Gowanus Fitness. But this gym is for the folks looking to build strength on strength and then go home FILLED UP, not Burnt Out.
Easy class packages, beautiful equipment, AMAZING TRAINERS ((Stephan Voice)) “This Place Has it All”. Come to Gowanus Fitness to be different - GOOD different, BETTER different, and you BEST different!

I can definitely recommend this gym! I am new to New York and had to do a lot of research to make sure I found something that was a good match. Based on the great reviews, I decided to give the $5 for 5 days offer a try, and I have now been a member for about 3.5 months. People are really non-judgmental, and there is a true community vibe where people cheer each other on. I also love the flexibility in the membership month to month, and the early classes. The trainers are incredibly nice and helpful to make sure you get your form right. As someone who is relatively new to lifting weights, my form has improved a lot and I feel a lot more confident doing so.

Looove this gym!! I signed up for the 5 day trial for $5 thinking it was highly unlikely I'd join... but I was hooked!! The gym itself is amazing - lots of space, high ceilings, amazing clear roller door which lets natural light in. Then the trainers are all A+. I'm loving learning all the correct lifting techniques and in the group classes, I'm pushed way harder than I can push myself on my own. The community vibe is also great, love seeing and getting to know the other regulars. Brad the owner is fantastic and super friendly too. Highly recommend!

I can’t recommend this gym enough! Brad and the coaches have curated an amazing environment for strength training without judgment yet enough of a push to be competitive with yourself if you want to be. I had never really lifted heavy weights (I’m a smaller, petite woman) before coming here and am now stronger than I ever thought possible after 1.5 years. I love that each day targets slightly different muscle groups and allows you to progressively build over time. Coming here has become a near daily routine - something I hadn’t been able to find myself doing with most NY gyms. The environment is very friendly and the space is quite big and clean!

Gowanus Fitness is great! I started going because I lived around the corner, but after moving significantly farther away, I now "commute" 3-4 days a week even though I have a Barrys and Equinox around the corner. It's really that good! We even considered moving into Manhattan, but Gowanus Fitness was a significant factor weighting against! Great staff, extraordinarily flexibility to change monthly according to my travel schedule, and motivating workouts. Highly recommend!

I signed up for weekly classes at Gowanus Fitness to improve my strength and conditioning to help me with my running. I have been surprised by how much I enjoy them. Though I am always the oldest person in the class, the instructors are patient and ensure that I'm keeping up and I'm definitely getting fitter.

I absolutely love this gym. The environment is so friendly and welcoming that I actually look forward to working out now! I’ve gotten so much stronger since joining, especially learning how to lift weights in an approachable and supportive way. The coaches put a strong emphasis on proper form, which makes me feel safe and confident. The space itself is big, clean, and never feels overcrowded. I've been going to classes and doing personal training with one of the coaches for several months now. The coaches are all very knowledgeable and supportive.
It's great place to train for all ability levels. I had never lifted before joining, and the coaches made it easy and safe.

I've been going to Gowanus Fitness for about 8 months now, and I've really seen a change in my strength and ability. The coaches are wonderful, and the gym's ethos as a whole is about developing anyone's ability to strength train effectively and safely while also pushing you when you need it! The atmosphere is welcoming and accessible and the workouts they plan are week by week but usually remain consistent for a few weeks based on the day, so you can choose to work on something over time, or try different things on different days. I love it here!

I've been coming here for a few months and can't recommend it enough! The classes are typically half strength training, half conditioning. The coaches do a great job of planning the workouts so you never get bored of doing the same thing. The space is great and they don't over crowd the classes, which is always a plus.

I have been coming to GF for about six months now, and it’s been such a great experience. Before joining, I was relatively active with things like biking, running, and soccer, but I never considered strength training because I was too intimidated. Once upon a time, I used to be the kind of person who would go and do barbell training by myself, so I sort of balked at the pricing of GF at first. But after several months, I will admit there are some key benefits of this place.
First, I actually go pretty regularly. Second, I appreciate that I am in and out of there in about an hour. There isn’t really enough slack time to get distracted with my phone or TV or whatever. There’s just something about the mix of light coaching and maybe a little positive peer pressure that works for me.

+1 to comments about the quality of this gym. You can’t go wrong with the them! I’ve been to several gyms in New York, from equinox / crunch / blink to a few smaller gyms of a similar style to Gowanus Fitness.
None of them come close to the quality of equipment and coaches offered here. If you can afford the up front cost, you definitely get your value!

Awesome gym, great setup, equipment and coaching. I live in the neighborhood, and have had a membership at most of the gyms in the surrounding neighborhoods, this is by far the best. The classes are great, and very well taught. If you're looking how to learn to move, lift weight and get fit, this is a great place to start.

I’ve been a member at Gowanus Fitness for nearly a year now, and I gotta say: it may be the best gym I’ve ever gone to in NYC. It’s chill. It’s flexible. I came to Gowanus fitness for prenatal fitness classes, one on one postnatal coaching, and eventually group fitness when I was ready. All three experiences were great, pregnancy classes and postpartum sessions were coached by Ivana. She was super knowledgeable about specifics needed to train safely during pregnancy and postpartum, and would check in each session to see if I had any particular issues. When I moved to general classes, she helped me ease into the new routine, the general group classes are great for all levels. I wish I wasn’t moving out of state, I will miss coming here!

I joined Gowanus Fitness last winter, as an injury-prone runner with no prior weightlifting experience. My goal was to incorporate strength training into my routine, and what a great decision it has been! The coaches and community at GF are amazing, they provide supportive and individualized attention during group sessions, while designing and leading challenging workouts that build on one’s fitness level (also, they’re genuinely nice humans!). I rarely write reviews, but feel compelled to compliment this gym. The team does a fantastic job with the workouts, and--more importantly--somehow create that extra spark that makes me actually show up. In fact, they just gave me handwritten "congratulations" note for completing my 100th workout since I joined last summer!
Anyway, I highly recommend joining if you're on the fence. The gym offers a great intro special, so little downside. In all, great gym, and great community.

Gowanus Fitness has become a huge and important part of my life since I joined a year ago. I usually make it to about 2-3 classes each week (though this has varied with my schedule). I am 32 and also a runner — along with the strength training and conditioning classes at GF, I feel (and am!) more physically fit than I have ever been in my life. The classes at GF — which are taught by trained, experienced, and knowledgeable coaches — have also given me a lot of confidence in 1.) taking control over my own fitness and strength training and 2.) feeling like a gym is a place that is accessible to me and a space where I belong and feel comfortable. To that last point, I would also say that the friendships I have made with other gym members and with the coaches — all of whom are universally kind and interesting people — has made my experience with Gowanus Fitness far more valuable to me than it would be if it were just the place where I went to work out. It is a place where I am genuinely always excited to go. I highly recommend this gym to friends and neighbors, and am always speaking to them about how great it is! I have been living in New York for more than ten years and have belonged to many different gyms in Brooklyn and Manhattan, but none has come close to Gowanus Fitness in their offerings and in the community that have been able to build.

I have been going to gowanus fitness for a year now. Its a great local gym for those who want to get into more strength based training. The trainers are knowledgeable and helpful no matter your experience level. If you have some weightlifting experience, I found it especially helpful for targeting muscle groups which you don't typically work on your own (i.e. my legs). They also typically mix in 20mins of cardio and conditioning per class as well.

I'm writing to review my experience working with Ivana doing prenatal personal training during my second pregnancy.
I started working with Ivana about a month before I learned I was pregnant. She eased me back into a training regimen, then once I learned I was expecting she was able to pivot seamlessly into a challenging yet safe prenatal training program. On days when I felt particularly nauseated or unwell, Ivana was able to easily modify our program. On days when I was ready to go (which was most days, thankfully) she taught me new things (I loved using kettlebells with her guidance) for the entire duration of my pregnancy while making me feel safe yet empowered to build strength. Ivana's ability to make you feel challenged yet safe was exactly what I wanted during my pregnancy. I also appreciated the close attention she paid to me during our sessions.
I credit the training I did with Ivana for how good I felt during my pregnancy, including gaining an ideal amount of weight, and how well I am recovering now postpartum. Ivana is also just a lovely person to talk to and be around which makes working with her all the more fun and easy. I recommend her without reservation.

Gowanus Fitness is an awesome community and very efficient workout to build strength. I started coming to classes about 8 months ago, worried it would be like Crossfit (overly intense, competitive, easy to injure yourself) and am happy to report that it is the opposite - a very chill and supportive environment with amazing coaches who take the time to teach you proper technique for the weightlifting exercises. It's also a highly effective and challenging hourlong class. The format is broken into two parts - strength and conditioning. If you've been consistently doing cardio and not seeing results, this is what you need. I'm feeling stronger and seeing more muscle definition than I ever have. I've made some cool new neighborhood friends, too! Couldn't recommend this place more. Awesome neighborhood gym with amazing trainers.

The prenatal class with Ivana is awesome. I was new to strength training and she takes great care of me. I had only ever taken yoga and Pilates classes but was eager to work with heavier weights now that I’m in my 40s…and expecting a baby! This has been a perfect addition to my workouts.

I started coming here over the summer to add weight and strength training to my workout. I was new to all the big boy weights, the instructors helped me ease into the workouts without feeling intimidated. This is a community driven gym. Despite a group class, instructors really do care about your form and making sure you dont hurt yourself while still push you to get a full body workout in. Gowanus Fitness is everything I was looking for in a gym and more. I always leave my workouts feeling strong as hell and have found the joy of going has motivated me to make it in the morning before work even while juggling toddler care. The facilities are expansive and super clean for a lifting gym. The coaches are all super knowledgeable and push me the right amount. I’ve been lifting for years and even still have learned a lot since joining.

For the first time in my life I actually enjoy going to the gym. My wife had been telling me for months that I'd love Gowanus Fitness but I hesitated to join, nothing really worked for me in the past and I thought this would be the same. I finally relented and joined in January and I'm so glad I did, this is the best I've felt since my early 20s. The coaches are truly amazing people, incredibly helpful, encouraging, and some of the nicest people you'll meet. The facility is clean, spacious, and has everything you need for a well rounded workout. The community is incredible, everyone is so supportive and welcoming. I could not recommend this place enough!

I thought this would be one of those one-off classes I would take and then stop attending, but I couldn't have been more wrong. They have cracked the code on three things that put them in their own category:
#1 - Providing personalized training in a group class setting.
#2 - Building a community that's inclusive of all fitness levels.
#3 - Putting the accountability on you to show up versus locking you into sneaky contracts.
If you are trying to get into a fitness routine, or tired of trying different gyms, or unable to afford personal training, or all of the above - give Gowanus a try!

I’ve been coming to Gowanus Fitness for about three months now. The staff and coaches are incredibly kind and interested in your performance. I feel such a sense of community going to classes and open gym here even though I’m a bit shy and introverted. I feel welcomed and leave with an awesome workout.
The classes focus on hybrid training, so I think if you’re new to that—especially the weight training aspect—the classes can be a bit intimidating at first. But for all new and old members, the coaches are fantastic. They give you individual attention where and when you need it the most. They have a sixth sense or something (I’m looking at you Victor and Lyndsey).
I’ve had so much fun doing all sorts of movements I wouldn’t have done by myself at the gym—handstands, ring rows, box jumps, crazy kettlebell exercises, sled pushes. The atmosphere is so motivating.
After weightlifting and doing the treadmill for years by myself I was looking for something different, something focused on athleticism and mobility, and the classes here definitely fit the bill. I always look forward to coming, and I highly recommend joining.

So happy my friend rec’d this gym in March. Always an athlete of some kind growing up, I missed the strength training that came along with it while pursuing higher education/my career - and only did cardio (god forbid :) ) for the last 14 years - lifting weights, HIIT, and plyometrics has changed my relationship with fitness, and the individualized coaching is amazing here - esp Victor, Ivana, and Mike. Great gym! If you're like me and realize that self-directed workouts devolve into doom-scrolling in meggings, this is the gym for you. Active HIIT classes. Great instructors. Solid community. You'll leave knowing this may be the most productive hour of your Zoom day. Do it. You'll see results after a few weeks. Your ass will thank you later. Just don't take my 6AM spot!

I've been going to GF for over a year and I love it and couldn't recommend it highly enough. I was an absolute beginner to any kind of power lifting and the coaches are great at being welcoming, teaching the moves slowly so you can pick up each step, keeping an eye on your form throughout the workout, and helping you adapt around any injuries.
Weekday classes usually include some kind of barbell exercise as the main focus + other strength/conditioning, and Saturday classes are all conditioning workouts b/c they tend to be bigger.
The vibes of the community are lovely. It's the kind of space where you'll be lifting next to people doing triple your weight, but you'll still fist bump and cheer each other on and it isn't intimidating at all. There's music on the speakers but it's never too loud, and each trainer mixes up their playlists.
Plus it's dog friendly! It's rare, but always lovely to see a dog watching on.

It can be hard staying consistent going to the gym but Gowanus Fitness makes it easy. Not only are the classes well organized and a great workout, Gowanus Fitness has a clean open facility and creates a positive, fun and supportive environment. Brad and the team of instructors are the best in the business! The instructors take a genuine interest in you, your current standing and progress/goals. I've been doing CrossFit for about 10 years and have slowly grown more and more disillusioned with boxes who scrimp on coaching and equipment upkeep.
The team here are the real deal. You won't find a 22 year old "coach" scrolling social media instead of monitoring your form. Instead you'll get Victor, Arturo, Ivanka or Mike closely monitoring your progress and gently guiding improvements. The equipment is top notch and serviced regularly - though, there are perhaps far too many working assault bikes for comfort!!
Look, it's a more expensive gym, for sure. But, if you're serious about getting or staying well it's the best investment you could make.

I’ve been cross training for about 10 years and I couldn’t be happier that I joined Gowanus Fitness a couple of months ago. The staff and coaches are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and made he feel at home immediately. The coaches are thorough in their explanation of each movement and clearly state what you are required to accomplish depending on the athlete’s level, which all classes seem to have a good mix of, from beginners to the more advanced. As someone who had just moved to NYC mid winter this gym helped me find my feet. The app made it easy to create a healthy rhythm for me each week. All of the coaches are knowledgeable, engaged and quirky in their own way, making the classes fun and motivating to keep coming back. There's a good mix of strength and conditioning for each class during the week and the cycles of workouts go 4-6 weeks. The classes are spread throughout the mornings and evening, which makes it easier to squeeze into my schedule as needed. The gym is newer, so the equipment is modern and they do a good job on upkeep and cleanliness. The community of people are great too, with just a few who bite and everyone else welcoming and friendly. Last, but not least, is they are flexible in your class subscription level each month. As someone who travels and needs to adjust, it has been nice to be able to reduce or increase as I am needing. They have a great promotional (5 for $5) to start and see if it's a fit, so I highly recommend you come check them out.

I've been going to Gowanus Fitness for a few months now and love it! I used to do CrossFit and this feels like a much more friendly version adapted to my age and level of fitness. They are incredibly welcoming and really seem to know and care about everyone personally. I joined Gowanus Fitness 3 weeks ago after my previous CrossFit gym closed. As a lot of reviews mention, the facility and training staff are top notch. What I will add are:
1. Coaching & Form Correction: the coaches, especially Victor have been really helpful in correcting deeply ingrained form issues that I have from doing CrossFit. Feeling a noticeable difference in how I feel in recovery.
2. Workout Intensity: despite not being CrossFit, the workouts are higher intensity. Whereas in a CrossFit class, you may only be "working out" 20-30 minutes over a 1 hour class, you're moving 98% of the time here. The "weightlifting" half of class is usually combined with a secondary movement, and the "WOD" is usually a bit longer.
3. Endurance v. Capacity: while CrossFit was focused on capacity, i.e. figuring our your one rep max, GF workouts more focused on endurance, i.e. 4 sets of 5 of one movement

Love what they’re doing at gowanus fitness! Been going since January and have definitely felt stronger and better since going. Coaches are super friendly and knowledgeable. Classes are well designed and relatively challenging but I always feel motivated to go.
Open gym hours are a bit limiting (6-12 and 4-6pm M-F) but doing classes 2-3x a week should be good enough for your fitness needs. Would def recommend trying it out if you’re in the area!

I walked into Gowanus Fitness for the first time not knowing what to expect, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I made this year. GF has an amazing program that balances strength and conditioning. The program is designed to challenge you and make progress each week. By now, I have taken classes delivered by most coaches at GF, and all of them are fantastic. They pay attention to each one of us, keep us motivated, and help tailor the program if need be. During the strength work, the coaches help me correct my form, which has been particularly helpful since I am new to weightlifting. The conditioning work kicks my butt every time, and I feel the healthiest I have ever been. The group training format definitely keeps me motivated. Plus, there is a great sense of community at GF. I am so glad I found GF. This has been a life-changing experience. Highly recommend for any experience level (especially if you are a beginner, you should just go and try it out!).

Can’t recommend the prenatal exercise class highly enough! For much of my pregnancy I was searching for prenatal-specific exercise classes that could help me stay fit without worrying about hurting myself through improper modification at a standard class. Most classes out there are just for prenatal yoga, but I wanted something that gave me cardio and strength training. This class is great because it’s capped to 6 people and the wonderful coach, Ivana, closely watches your form. Exercises are tailored to be pregnancy safe and include cardio (e.g. sled pushes and bike), weights (e.g. deadlifts and overhead presses) and core stability (e.g. bird dogs and shoulder taps).

I have a background working out in a number of different fitness studios and practices, and Gowanus Fitness has quickly become my favourite. Each of the coaches is super knowledgeable and supportive, when both demo-ing and helping students through different exercises. The programming is created from a very thorough and knowledge based perspective. I've learned more in the past few months about strength training than ever before.

Quite easily the best gym experience of my life. It's not just that the coaching staff is superb, it's the fact that they do such a great job of creating community around fitness.
The programs push you to push yourself. The coaches push you to push, each other. Not aggresively - but in a supportive, friendlily competitive way. After 4 months I was stronger, and had shaken off the pandemic lethargy and attrophy. At 8 months I can feel and see the differences in my body.
But what's best is that each of the classes have their regulars, and they've become little communities in their own right. The 7ams are chaotic; the 6pms have the hottest guys (debatable); the 6ams have the most will power (cuz who can do conditioning at 6am!!!) We sweat together; support each other's outside hobbies; hell - we have group chats.

So happy I found Gowanus Fitness! It's been a while since I've felt this excited to go to the gym on a regular basis.
The group workouts offer an ideal mix of strength & conditioning, and are both challenging and fun. All of the coaches create a welcoming atmosphere and really get to know you so they can offer hands-on support. The gym is spacious, clean, and well maintained.

I've been going to Gowanus Fitness for about 6 months now and really enjoy it. It is a great community. The instructors are great and they go out of their way to foster a friendly, noncompetitive, non-judgemental environment. I am so appreciative that they are OK with my bringing my kids when I need to, there is an area near the door where I park them with activities.
The workouts are well thought out. I am starting to really appreciate how the workout sequence builds through the month and I can see progress in my skills and weights.
My 7yo LOVES the kids classes with Lynsey. A great class for any kiddo who is endlessly in motion.

I was looking for a gym that does a combo of strength and cardio like my old gym and I found it in Gowanus Fitness. The coaches are all excellent! They are so patient and push you to do your best to better increase your strength! I just wish I could take more classes. It's tough to find the time as a busy mom of two toddlers and a full time job. The community is also so welcoming and encouraging. Highly recommend this gym if you want a great workout and a great community!

I have been going to Gowanus Fitness several times a week for over 6 months and have found it to be consistently awesome. It has a great vibe and a real sense of community.
The coaching staff is extremely friendly and engaging and always highly motivational. They calibrate the level of instruction to the individual student making for classes that are accessible to beginners while still being challenging and rigorous for those with more experience.
The gym is huge with tons of space and the equipment is new and well organized.
The location is great as well.

Prior to joining, most of my fitness routine focused on distance running. No previous strength training regimen really ever stuck for more than a few weeks – I’ve been going to weekly classes at Gowanus Fitness for almost a year now!
The gym is spacious and accommodating with enough equipment for a variety of workouts. The instructors are friendly and are always providing tips on proper form and really care about seeing you progress week to week. I’ve really appreciated getting more formal instruction to strength training movements that are difficult to learn on your own. The classes focus on different muscle groups with a mix of strength training and cardio depending on the day. Each workout also has sensible adjustments to support all experience levels.

I highly recommend Gowanus Fitness! I'm on my second month. They have a massive space, new equipment, wonderful coaches and very organized and professional. Their one-hour group classes are intense, full body HITT type trainings which build strength and stamina while maintaining a steady variety in exercises. You can even come in during opening hours and use the equipment, so super flexible. I love the casual and friendly atmosphere combined with a serious commitment to work hard.

Having been searching for years for a gym like this in Brooklyn. The workouts are challenging but they take the time to educate you on proper form when weight lifting. You will get stronger and improve your cardio here very quickly. The coaches are all very supportive and it’s overall a great community. If you are looking for a gym that's friendly and effective, Gowanus Fitness is where you should come and try out! The space is huge and fully equipped. Coaches are very attentive and patient to everyone in the class, no matter what fitness level you are at. Class size is adequate and there are classes running from early morning to evening. Very accommodating for people who have a 9 to 5 job. Class atmosphere is always so motivating, and it's not surprised to see people come back consistently. I'm a new member to Gowanus Fitness, and I've been super happy with my experience thus far. The classes are super organized, punctual, and the coaching is all-around fantastic. ALL of the coaches are really fantastic at working with injuries, modifications, and the technical aspects of the movements. You will get some movement in every minute of the hour class, which is not always true. I've found that some gyms have a lot of standing around time, and I like how structured the time is while I'm there. Highly recommend if you're in the area and are looking for Crossfit that isn't Crossfit.

Truly a gem of a gym and community that challenges and encourages you! The coaches are all so lovely—smart, knowledgeable, experienced, warm, and generous with their attention and guidance. Serious about their role, yet also fun and supportive.
The emphasis on strength training and proper form is super helpful for me who never truly worked out before. I feel more energetic than I have in years and am starting to see muscles 💪 . I try to fit as many classes as I can monthly, despite a busy schedule.
I also really appreciate the varied payment options and non-pushy sales format of how they run their business, which is such a change from other gyms modalities, and is helpful for someone like me who travels a lot for work and has young kids. The flexibility is great and actually makes me go more often! The gym itself is clean and well kept, I also like all the variety of music they play!

Gowanus Fitness is the absolute best! I was recovering from a knee injury and looking for a way to build strength. The coaches and entire community is so welcoming, not at all intimidating for someone entirely new to strength and group fitness. They also are amazing at truly coaching your form so you do everything correctly and accommodate for injuries or issues. I’ve been coming to GF since Jan 2023.
I was looking for a private gym environment with group classes. After years of doing private training around NYC I found myself missing the group training environment. I was specifically looking for group classes that incorporate barbell training & Olympic lifts, something I didn’t find at any gyms for under $65/session.
Introduce GF to the mix - not only are their group classes fun 🤩 - they introduce new movements about every month and include all of the functional movement that goes with the Olympic lifts. Even the stretching is so well thought out to include movements you’ll be utilizing later in class.
This may sound like “duh doesn’t every gym do this?” And I can safely tell you “NO. They mostly do not.”
I’ve seen immense progress in my lifts (GAINZ!) but also in my daily posture, my mental health and happiness. Lifting for me is as much a mental as physical workout and has helped me in so many positive ways as a 40+ cyclist.
Group fitness can be intimidating- but I promise we’re different at Gowanus Fitness. Please come join us! (And don’t forget to ask about the disco ball!) 🫶🪩🫶

Coach Kat is super helpful and keeps the classes small which makes it feel like a very welcoming and safe space. Besides that the classes are FUN and I can feel how they help my body (and mind) during this big transition in life. I’ll definitely continue with post-natal classes and regular classes later on. Gowanus Fitness has been a game changer for me. I’m someone who has never been into anything fitness-related or felt the desire to join a gym at all, ever. Ever. But I needed a change and stumbled upon their Instagram and the vibe seemed right so I thought, why not? Brad was so friendly and helpful when I reached out and he scheduled a quick tour right away. After talking to him and explaining my lack of experience, he gave me some options and recommendations, and I decided to start out with personal training with Kat, and from the very beginning she has been INCREDIBLE. I do not use these caps lightly. I’m basically yelling about how great she is. Her focus on form and injury-prevention over all else took my mind off of the more aesthetic-focused parts of fitness communities and helped me appreciate just feeling good and strong and healthy. I went from not being able to do one good squat to actually enjoying them! Eight months in and I’m now doing two group classes a week and I’m excited to try more with different trainers. Highly recommend Kat as a trainer for beginners and the gym in general. It’s a wonderful, supportive community, and I’m really happy I’ve added their classes it to my weekly routine.

Over the course of 8 months Coach Victor at Gowanus Fitness worked with me as a personal trainer and nutritionist. Coach Victor was energetic, friendly, and knowledgeable (especially about movements that would be ok for my sensitive back.) He encouraged me to increase my weight lifting limits without pushing me too far. I noticed a massive improvement in my range of motion and my physical appearance. I was sad when I moved out of the area and had to end my packages at Gowanus Fitness.

I had just been getting back into my exercise routine when I started attending classes at Gowanus Fitness and have found the coaches be friendly for beginners as well as those who are more advanced. I am so happy I found Gowanus Fitness . The workouts are exactly what I’ve been looking for , a combination of cardio with an emphasis on strength training. The coaches are super friendly and non intimidating . They will happily modify exercises for you and advise you on what weights to use . They encourage you to go at your own pace but also give you pushes when you’re ready. It somehow also attracts the nicest gym members . Everyone from complete beginners to pro weight lifters are made to feel totally welcome ! If you're into the group fitness format, this is the premier location in the area. The programming is diverse and flexible, allowing you to scale up or down based on how you feel that day. I’m so glad to have found this gym in the neighborhood! Gowanus Fitness has allowed me to build confidence with my fitness journey, especially learning how to correctly move my body with weightlifting. All the coaches are attentive and know everyone on a first-name basis. The classes are not your typical cardio and strength classes (that you find at a generic gym or fitness studio).
This is a locally-owned gym with a team of coaches who are passionate with what they do. You can see for yourself with the body transformations and inclusive community as a result of an all-star team. The folks here are generous with their time and support, and they will not push salesy tactics on you as other places do.

Gowanus Fitness is a very welcome addition to the Gowanus/Park Slope area that is a good fit for people of all fitness levels.
What makes Gowanus Fitness stand out is how personal it feels to be a part of their community. Big name chains are happy to never encourage you to come back and take your $50/mo, while other class-based chains are constantly trying to upsell you. The owner, Brad, and the coaches never pushed me to buy more than I needed or spam me with product or promotional material. Other members are friendly and encouraging as well. You understand very quickly this is a space for people to focus on their health and fitness without intimidation.
I like that Gowanus Fitness takes the approach of a cross-fit gym without the competition aspect, incorporating in each workout components of strength, conditioning, and skills training. I feel like I'm learning something new while challenging my body each workout.
I had actually dislocated my shoulder early on in my time with GF, and they were incredibly accommodating until I could return. Once I did, they were happy to provide me with modifications to certain movements so that I could still participate as much as possible.
Fantastic instructors, compassionate ownership, a variety of class types and times, and a convenient location (5 mins from the Union St R, probably 7-8 from Atlantic / Barclays stop) -- I hope they stick around for a long time!

I'm so grateful I found out about this gym by chance from a random facebook comment. I've been a member here since March and as a petite woman who is physically weak, I have to say the amount of strength I've been able to build has been astounding. ALL the coaches are incredible and actually know what they're talking about when they lead the group classes.
As someone with a crazy schedule, I'm also really grateful for Gowanus Fitness's flexibility and multiple class offerings throughout the day. I can't tell you how many times I thought I'd be attending a morning class only to have to change to an evening class at the last minute. Not to mention, all the members are so kind and supportive and you really feel like you're working out with a community. I don't care if I move out of the neighborhood, I will commute 2+ hours to this gym if I have to.

Nothing new here that I have not tried or found in numerous other gyms at a fraction of the cost. All these so-called functional fitness routines using different modalities just amount to a rip off when it comes to membership fees. The layout reminds me of many of those gyms in Florida where they are essentially located within a large storage or garage space. The commercial sized ones. When will these trends end as the fitness industry especially in the US is catering to all these lazy out of shape, no incentive types where you need group classes to hold a kettlebell or do a burpee and push some racked weights across the floor while paying monthly for someone to hold your proverbial hand. Ugh. I can do that for free.
