The gym is very clean, and members are generally respectful, which creates a pleasant atmosphere. There are plenty of treadmills for cardio, though the selection of strength machines is somewhat limited. Unfortunately, the front desk staff often come across as rude rather than just unapproachable, which makes interactions feel unpleasant. I understand they greet hundreds of people each week, but a little kindness goes a long way and would make the experience much better.

*Locker rooms, sauna, steam room and *showers are gender specific. Not co ed.
*Pools and whirlpool available alongside free WiFi, water station and basketball courts.
*No running track
*Cycle studio and classes available, including music lessons, art lessons and childcare.
*no obnoxious loud music playing overhead which can offer less sensory overload. Headphones or ear buds have a better chance to block out sounds.
* rehabilitation room is now an e-gym which will require a set up for a login.

The East Area Y was our family’s go-to for years. Since the pandemic, staffing, especially in aquatics hasn’t fully recovered. The current pool schedule is often extremely limited or not open at all, which makes it hard for families to plan.

I Used to go here but over the last year this place has became overcrowded and filled with intolerable people.
I cannot fathom paying $70 for my family when the non-working EBT communities pay $20 for their family of 9.
I don’t understand how this benefits anyone, the parking lot is literally full all the time anymore.
Overcrowded with goons now

My 10 year old LOVES Camp Evergreen. They do so much with the kids and it's fully outdoors so there's no electronics--what's better than that?! Plus, they provide bus transportation and the camp is all day so it's perfect for parents who need to work a full shift in between bus pick up & drop off. Worth every single penny!!

But I need to give you a friendly reminder, please bring a lock to the locker rooms to prevent your things (like goggles) from being stolen.

Hal Welsh YMCA is like being with a family who cares about you. I am always greeted by my first name and feel welcome to be there. The facility itself is spacious and clean. I enjoy my aqua water classes, and coffee time with friends after working out. I have found my second home here! It is more than just a gym - the Y gives back so much to the community and is a great place for children and teens to learn and grow. The atmosphere is always positive. I have made many new friends at the Y and also find it as a great social outlet. I could go on and on about how much I enjoy Hal Welsh YMCA in Fayetteville, NY.!

I joined the Southwest branch of the YMCA on the Onondaga Community College campus a few years ago. I really appreciate the facility because it has an indoor track and all the exercise equipment I might ever need. It's also close to my home. However, it doesn't have a pool, so recently when I needed to use a pool to rehab from an injury, I traveled the distance to the Fayetteville branch which is also covered by my membership. The facilities at Fayetteville are clean and inviting. And, particularly important to me is the fact that pool areas are separated so that those using the water to rehab an injury don't interfere with those swimming laps. They also have a higher temperature setting for the rehab pool area. Seems ideal!

Only reviewing pool area as that is specifically what we went there for. We have been to multiple other YMCA in the area. The draw of this one is their big slide; however, the big slide is almost never open. 😟. It was open when we went, and the slide is fun, but if it were not open, I don’t know that I would go here again for the pool. The family/activity pool is extremely small and shallow. Lots of lap lanes, which were very busy. There is a separate hot tub, but no one under 18 is allowed in it, which disappointed my 10 year old. There are not nearly enough family changing areas. The flooring in the walkway to the pool area as well as the pool area itself is extremely slippery and did not look well cleaned. I’m glad we had sandals. The other Ymca’s use floor air dryers to keep the floor from getting that wet and dangerous.

It is such a positive place that I always leave feeling happy and uplifted because of the people that work there.I love to go there and see their brilliant, glowing, smiling faces. I haven't been to the other branches in the Syracuse area so cannot compare but l like this branch. I just wish that there were more family showers with a changing section for helping kids.
Update: after COVID this branch got worse. Swim classes used to be free and now they charge a fee on top of the membership. Class times are not very convenient for people working during the week.
The building is old but also very filthy. The on ly reason I still keep our membership is the pool but as soon as I find a better option I will leave. The pool supervisor is rude. The pool closes at 7.30 but she starts chasing people around and even asked us how much longer we're staying before 7.30. Childrens section is mostly closed because not enough life guards. Pools are reserved mostly for swim classes.
I wouldnt recommend this branch to anyone.

My two boys (one is 18 other is 11) always goes to the ymca, my oldest trains my youngest for basketball they both work hard at it. Honestly good young boys that want to go to this facility instead of hanging in the streets playing ball. The last couple weeks my oldest that has a membership says they won’t let them in and when I asked why he says my 11 yr old has to get a membership so he brings the card to pay and they turn them away saying they can’t accept cards, then they bring cash and they turn them away and say they need exact change, now they turn them away again. I just called and the young lady that answered said again my youngest needs a membership I told her they have the money to get him one, she says oh he needs a parent they’ve been there together alone over a dozen times and my oldest is 18 so why is it an issue now. I asked her for the managers extension she transferred me I called her back and said I asked you not to transfer me I want the extension and she finally gave it to me. Don’t get me wrong I want to think that it has nothing with my son’s being Hispanic/ African American but how come she has an issue with my son’s going now when they’ve been there before. It’s so frustrating that an excuse after an excuse was made just to not allow someone in to a place that they’re paying and willing to add another membership for. If it wasn’t for my boys wanting to go here I would tell them to keep the membership but their Dad is on his way to settle this madness. Disappointing to think your children want to go to a safe place and still have to deal with negativity.

The lyrics to YMCA have the following lines: “…you can stay there, and I’m sure you will find many ways to have a good time.”

While this was true at one point, it no longer is. The employee with the initial MB is truly incorrigible and all around unpleasant. I thought at first that I was misreading this woman, but it looks like she rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

I will start looking for other venues to ‘…have a good time.’

My family’s experience was disappointing and disturbing. My son is a happy precious little guy w/Autism. Prior to registering for an “inclusive” child care program (end of May& June) as my husband and I work, we were required to submit my son’s “Medicaid” insurance info due to his disability. We were told this would ‘pay’ for the 1:1. After a couple of days, The “Inclusion Director” said that my son could no longer attend as planned, as he is “too much” she said we would receive a refund (the Medicaid waiver paid for his 1:1... not the child care program) She said he could attend a couple of days a week with multiple staff as his 1:1. I was shocked by her unprofessionalism and lack of empathy, but nothing prepared me for the call I received the following week. She stated my son could not attend the inclusion camp he was registered to attend for 2 weeks in the summer. He was quite excited about attending “camp Iroquois”. We were told he would receive swimming lessons, play games and most importantly be part of a group which he so desperately yearns for. She said it was her supervisor’s decision. I spoke with this woman as well, whom I believe identified herself as the “associate Executive Director”. She was condescending and had me on “speaker”. It was apparent she truly did not care about my son or family. She explained that my son ran into an unsupervised and unlocked pool area and staff had chased him. I explained the door should be locked for ALL of the children’s safety. Her response was “it’s locked now”. We share our experience and hope other families never have to go through this. My son repeats almost everything that is said to him. He is still (1 month later) reenacting his short time there.

I’ve been a member for 12 years. Mary Beth is extremely rude, unfriendly, and miserable. While working out during the busiest time, I had my bag with me as all the cubbies were full. Instead of politely asking me to move it, she aggressively interrupted me, told me I needed to move it immediately, to which I responded yes in a moment. She went on to tell me not to finish my set and move it immediately, or she would. I then articulated I did not appreciate the way she was speaking to me, which she ignored and moved closer to my face and continued telling me I could leave or move my bag. I have multiple witnesses to this event. I appreciate when people have a job to do but I have never been treated so poorly by staff, let alone a director.

Another piece of advice, as I myself have trained for four years and am an avid fitness participant, please request tangible ACE/NASM certifications before signing up for personal training at this facility.

I am so disgusted with the fact that you no longer allow day use fees. I travel a lot and I really value staying in shape. It seems like the YMCA, as a national organization should be committed to fitness and wellness. I have no idea why you no longer allow the use fees, but it’s a very bad policy and I am very disappointed. I am also going to complain to the national YMCA

Ive been coming to the YMCA for years. Everything was all and well, I would come in and play basketball as well as workout. The problem I have now is that the basketball courts aren’t even available to play basketball. keep in mind that they are BASKETBALL COURTS. They take up one and a half courts during Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to play badminton and it was all fine when they had one court for themselves but more than one is way to many. They are kicking off kids from playing basketball and kicking off grown people. There are spaces in the back they can setup to play badminton but they choose to take down half a basketball court instead and force kids in the back. I hope this ends ASAP or I might have to find myself a new gym to go to.

The staff is great BUT be careful in the women's saunas and steam room. My friend saw a leach in there one time.

Absolutely wonderful facility even better staff. This place is why I fell in love with working and taking care of my body. There basketball courts and pools are just the beginning they have a great weight section that allows anyone to target every area you desire to and succeed.

This location great for everyone especially families. They have a small but very popular kids pool area and waterslide, lap pool, gym, and weights and workout equipment.
