I had a very odd first experience here a few months ago. I’d have left a review sooner, had I known other people had similar experiences so here is what happened. They put up a facade of an all inclusive space while actively punishing those who do not fit their frame of a perfect client. They want to force community and extroversion without any flexibility for those who come in to simply workout. They promote a safe space while actively ignoring the need for different learning styles and refuse (or don’t know how) to be flexible with their teaching.
Longer example of what went down when I visited this gym on two occasions:
My girlfriend used to go to this gym and I decided to take a class with her. When I was done changing, I came up to the coach and asked if my gf and I can be partnered up together, clearly stating that I am only visiting, am experienced in Muay Thai and some boxing, and that I came here specifically to workout with my girlfriend. I am a more experienced fighter but my gf and I are the same exact height, so realistically there shouldn’t be any issues with us working together technique-wise, especially if I came specifically to enjoy the class with her, but they ended up separating us for no seeming reason lmao. Not a big deal but odd. They excused it emphasizing that they’re trying to build community despite the fact that I was there to workout WITH my gf and was just visiting. During the class before we were separated, I guided girlfriend through some combos because the way they were teaching was very fast and there was no room for questions but one of the coaches came up and physically put a hand between us stating that they’re the coaches and will do the teaching and that my gf should let me do my combos. After the class, one of the coaches also made a passive aggressive comment “oh it’s cute that you brought your girlfriend or whatever, but we can’t have you distracting each other and those around you in class”.
I decided to come another time maybe a month later to finally workout with my girlfriend at her gym, but we were again separated.
In addition to that, my girlfriend was struggling with pain in her foot, likely caused by boxing. In the past she was told to raise a hand and ask a question, so she raised her hand to ask the question about that pain, but was met with aggression instead and was told that they cannot answer her questions because they’re in the middle of teaching the class, despite telling their students to do exactly that, raise their hand if help is needed. Meanwhile, as mentioned earlier when she didn’t ask them a question and I tried to help guide her we were told to not help each other because it was distracting to others. After the class, one of the coaches came up to us and tried to offer guidance about the previously mentioned pain but even that was done in a passive aggressive way. They basically said “I’m offering my advice now and you don’t want to take it?? Pffft” (not verbatim but close). My girlfriend has more to share but that was my first hand experience.
Their desire to forcefully build community and advertise a safe space is appalling. Using that desire for inclusivity seems to be their way of covering their own shitty behavior cause everyone’s welcome, yet they will only treat you right if you fit within their expectation of a perfectly social client who comes in, talks with everyone, understands everything immediately and has no questions, difficulties or concerns. I truly believe the only way I did not struggle with their directions was because I’ve been doing martial arts for years and was able to keep up with the pace, otherwise idk how you’re supposed to learn in that setting.

As a beginner to boxing, when I arrived, I felt so welcome in the space. I was never judged on whether or not I was being "perfect" in my form, or even rushed to keep up with others. I have taken Andrea's class and she has always shown compassion for my accessibility needs. I disclosed to her that I have fibromyalgia, and she was completely discrete about my medical condition, respecting confidentiality, and tailoring each exercise to be accessible for EVERYONE. The instructors have never made me feel bad for going at my own pace. I was never singled out when I needed to take breaks. They very kindly gave me and other students cues, varied options, and adjustments (with consent) to ensure we were all physically safe and felt included. They have truly cultivated a very community-centered space. I've seen it when students very graciously take time out of *their* exercise to help me and cheer me on (even though they paid for the same class as me / and even though it has meant matching my slower pace). This place is so special... and they play really good music!!!

I felt completely at ease and comfortable in being able to move at my own pace with the encouragement and support of the instructors and fellow class attendees. I am so happy to see a space like this thrive and create a space that is inclusive to all! It’s the only gym I will ever go to.

Before I came to my first class at Haven, my only experience with fitness had been mostly working out in male dominated gyms. It was always a battle with anxiety and most of the time I was disassociating just to cope. Haven was the first place where I felt like I belonged at a gym, where I felt truly comfortable, supported, and safe. Not once in all my time here have I felt out of place or unwelcome.
I’ve been part of this gym for over two years now, and in that time I’ve not only grown stronger and more skilled at working out and boxing (I could barely punch my first few classes) but I’ve also gained confidence and resilience in my personal life. Gaby and Andrea put an incredible amount of care and intention into every class they program, and it SHOWS. I’ve felt it in each of the 200+ classes I’ve taken, that’s not even counting open gym. I’ve never felt as good in my body as I do today.
It genuinely hurts to see people tear down a queer owned space that means so much to so many of us. To leave such harsh, unsettling reviews, sometimes a year later, feels like a disservice to the community this gym has built. Haven isn’t just a place to work out it’s a place where people like me finally feel safe, seen, and supported.

Gym or gem? The hype is real. The name doesn’t lie. I’ve never found a community as welcoming as the one that Gaby and Andrea have cultivated. All bodies and skill levels are welcome if not celebrated. All of my classmates have been lovely. It’s very clear that Gaby and Andrea have put an immeasurable amount of energy and effort into creating this inclusive, wonderful space.
I appreciate the thoughtfulness that goes into each session. They check in before class starts and have always prioritized my needs whether it’s adjusting workouts to accommodate injuries or simply answering questions about combos and footwork. That said, they know best. Having an open mind and responding to their feedback will help ensure that everyone is having fun, everyone is safe, and you improve your skills.
I came here on a whim, but I didn’t expect to leave feeling like a better person. Boxing is my new therapy. As a trans femme, I’ve spent a lifetime avoiding my body. Well here I am feeling more confident, resilient, obsessed with boxing, and actually eager to be in my body. I leave class feeling empowered, affirmed, stronger, and connected to a community I adore. This place could change your life as it did mine. I love it here. It’s a privilege to learn here. The private sessions are truly magical. UPDATE: I have been coming to the functional classes 1-3 times a week religiously for the past 2.5 years and I have never felt stronger and more connected with my body. Prior to Haven, I had a fair amount of experience with Pilates, barre, yoga, and light weights, but after taking functional with Gaby and Andrea, as well as privates with Gaby, my knowledge of how the body moves has empowered me. During my time at Haven, I had some really intense joint pain, fatigue, musco-skeletal issues. Even with this, I was still able to come and safely workout. I always communicated my issues to the instructors prior to class and they would show me ways to modify to do the exercise safely for my body. There were times when I couldn’t do the whole workout and I never felt judged or pressured to ‘push myself’ to keep up with others.
Beyond the workouts, the Haven team has cultivated an amazing community space. They have installed the fridge outside with the ONE LOVE team to distribute food to the community, organize a massive coat drive every year, have hosted fundraising classes for clients surgery funds, offered scholarships, fun themed events, the list goes on….
This place has truly kept me going despite all the chaos in the world. Highly recommend coming in and trying out Functional even if you are focused on boxing! Would also like to call out the affordability - it is so rare to see classes at this price especially in Williamsburg. It makes working out so much more accessible.

I attended an "all levels" class as a complete beginner. I specifically chose this studio because it is heavily advertised as an inclusive space, yet my experience was the exact opposite. I left the class in tears after being subjected to unprofessional and discriminatory behavior.
I informed the staff and instructor prior to the start that I was new to the studio and a beginner. Once the class started, I struggled significantly to follow the complex, quick-paced instructions—a common challenge for any beginner, but especially in a difficult class that was not beginner-friendly.
When the instructor aggressively approached me, annoyed that I wasn't following along, I privately disclosed my difficulty with the pace and my diagnosis of ADHD, explaining that it makes processing rapid instructions challenging.
Before the next exercise, the instructor stopped the entire class to launch into a loud public speech. She implicitly targeted me and the private information I had just shared, essentially yelling that "some people are ruining it for the whole class" and that being neurodivergent or having difficulty was not an "excuse." To be singled out and have my personal medical information weaponized and mocked in front of the entire room was terrifying, humiliating, and utterly unprofessional.
The teachers approached me after class because they saw I was visibly crying and distressed. I thought this might be an opportunity for an apology and an honest discussion, but they instantly doubled down on their behavior. They refused accountability and instead blamed my reaction on me, saying I had gotten into a "fight or flight" response. This is the exact deflection I see them use in response to every negative review they receive. Let me be clear: I was not in "fight or flight." I was a beginner who was treated deplorably, yelled at, and then singled out in front of the whole class.
The fact that this gym continues to use "inclusive space" as a core advertising term is offensive when there is a clear pattern of reviews—including mine—where customers report feeling scared, excluded, and targeted. I absolutely would not recommend this studio to anyone, especially beginners or those with accessibility needs.
I'll be awaiting their rude comment back (which they give to every bad review) where they completely shift the blame to their costumer, personally attacks them and with that shows yet again how this is not a place that values inclusivity or costumers feeling safe. Remember this is a workout class, people should not leave feeling this way. It's not that serious.

I've been going to Haven since March and I don't really say this lightly, it has completely changed my relationship with my body. I feel so much more aligned and present in my workouts. And when I am having a hard time getting there, both Andrea and Gaby find ways to help me reconnect with intention. They also really encourage us to find our voices in the moment and ask questions about the movements that have helped me so much. I cannot recommend this gym enough!!! <3 I wish them a long and abundant future!!!

I started going to HAVEN because of their inclusive, LGBTQ+ friendly message. I genuinely enjoyed the classes and thought it would be a great idea to bring my girlfriend, who was brand new to boxing, to one of their all-levels sessions.
Right away, we were split into beginners and returning members. I get it — structure is fine — but I wish I could’ve stayed with her to support her. The music was so loud, and with instructors wearing masks, she couldn’t hear instructions clearly. For something marketed as beginner-friendly, it felt way too fast and overwhelming.
What really upset us happened at the end. As we were leaving, Gabby asked my girlfriend how she liked the class. My girlfriend, trying to be positive, said she had fun and wanted to get better. Gabby then told her she had a “terrible attitude” and didn’t like the way she looked at her — when in reality, she was just trying to hear her over the music. That comment left her so embarrassed she cried afterward.
It felt like a huge misunderstanding, but instead of giving her the benefit of the doubt, they chose confrontation over communication. For a place that claims to be inclusive, that moment told us otherwise.
This happened about 8 months ago, and I wasn’t going to write a review — but after hearing from others with similar stories, I felt like it was worth sharing.
And yes, I know they’ll probably leave one of their usual snarky replies instead of just taking accountability. That seems to be the pattern.
I’ve gone back to my old gym. Disappointed, honestly.

Haven Boxing in Williamsburg is a gem. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear this isn’t your typical boxing gym. The space is inclusive, welcoming people of all backgrounds and fitness levels without judgment.

I usually don’t write reviews but another costumer one month ago describes a very similar experience to mine, suggesting a pattern.
In this studio that promotes inclusivity and open conversations you will feel unwelcome if, somehow, they think you do not belong with them.
Before the class I responded I had tried boxing before but apparently, they expected a much better performance from me.
I stepped out to get water and, once I got back, before I could even look ahead of me one of the instructors approached me and told me I had to follow and be more present. The scolding continued and at one point the same instructor looked at me and said ‘so crazy’ as I didn’t have my gloves on yet. At the end I was about to leave without mentioning anything (to somehow end on a positive note) when the same instructor comes up to me again to lecture me about how I shouldn’t have said I tried boxing before if my level was so low. As I try to explain to her that I was just tired she accompanied me to the door and told me I could leave and not come back.
People have busy lives, no one was there to become a professional and no one should be blamed for doing what works for them or for taking it slow. I was never rude or disrespectful, me joining the group a few seconds later did not disrupt the class. I didnt even ask them any questions so this was definitely NOT privileged behavior. I appreciate constructive criticism but this was rather an unnecessary personal attack and as the previous review said “I hope no one else is made to feel this way again.”
Again you just want to select people that for some reason you feel belong to the HAVEN family. But I did nothing to disrespect you so you have no right to disrespect me.

I have been to two drop in classes and every time I’ve been greeted by not only the owners but the community of people that take the class that day. The instructors are very attentive and checked on me multiple times after I told them about a previous injury I had on my knee a year prior and even gave me pointers I can take with me if I attend another gym. Grateful to have felt so cared for at a boxing gym no less. Thank you!

I’ve never had such a warm welcome to a fitness space in my life. The energy here is so great and Andrea, Gabby, Cam, and Joey were super supportive and gave great tips and adjustments to ensure my form was on point. I like the mix of boxing-focused and functional movement classes. As someone who’s torn both acls, this is a great mix for my body (and a wake up call for my coordination and lower body mobility/strength!). Looking forward to coming back!

It’s disappointing to write this review, but I feel compelled to share my experience. I attended a 5:30 PM ‘all levels’ open class for the fourth or fifth time this year. What initially drew me to this gym was its commitment to inclusivity for women, queer individuals, and POC. As a brown woman and co-chair of a DEI group called ACT, that mission resonated with me. I also appreciated their kindness in allowing my emotional support dog.
Unfortunately, today’s experience contradicted the gym’s philosophy that ‘anyone who has ever been made to feel excluded in a fitness space is welcome here.’
My friend and I, both beginners, were paired for partner drills. We called out numbers to help each other follow the sequence, which didn’t disrupt anyone, but the instructor, reprimanded us. She claimed we were misbehaving, but we were just trying to learn in a way that worked for us.
I’ve taken this instructors class before, Andrea, and respect that she pushes people, but her approach can come off crass at times. She often assumes mistakes come from inattention instead of recognizing different learning styles.
Rather than checking in, she scolded us in a way that felt dismissive. As we were leaving she approached us again, and I explained we were counting the sequence, she dismissed it and implied I should already be proficient since I've been to 4 or so classes.
When I expressed that I felt triggered by her tone, she justified it as necessary for ‘safety.’ For context, the music was loud, and we weren’t being disruptive—nothing we said was louder than the music. Another instructor jumped in to defend her, making me feel ganged up on for simply expressing how I felt.
I believe the people here mean well, but inclusivity isn’t just about who you welcome—it’s about how you treat every people once they’re inside. I’ve had positive experiences with other instructors who’ve been supportive in a way that resonates with me, but I won’t be returning. I’ll request a refund for my remaining classes, though I doubt they’ll grant it. What once felt like a safe space no longer does, and I hope no one else is made to feel this way.

This space is such a dream.
The owners, staff & community make this a welcoming environment created with intentionality. I have been taking boxing classes for a while and the difference at this place is that I'm now both challenged and supported. I leave every class with my ass kicked but some applicable lesson feeling clearer.
Haven embodies its' name: not just a welcoming space to learn boxing & strength training but a place of mutual aid, more inclusive community and radically rooted fun with respect for the community that it inhabits as well as creates.
It's literally helped me get through this year and I feel very grateful for all the work that goes into it.

I did not walk into this class feeling confident. I've never tried boxing, and I'm pretty out of shape. From the moment I walked in though I knew being there was exactly what I needed. Everyone was incredibly kind, motivating, encouraging - the works. I usually get really bad anxiety in work out classes, and I never felt that once - even with the partner exercises. I've already signed up for a second class which I'm not sure I've ever done!

Haven will change your life for the better, there is hands down no better gym in New York. The level of care and attention that goes into the programming and execution of classes is unmatched, and you will get personal attention even in group classes because there is always more than one teacher.
The Haven team ensures that you leave feeling better—physically and mentally— than you came in: *if you are nervous or inexperienced in exercising, this is the place to go*!!! Functional Training fundamentally changed how I view exercise in a good way.
They also do a lot of good for the community, and truly live their politics.

Great team and great gym with all the things I’m looking for in my workout. Gaby has the IT factor you look for in an instructor, top-notch technique driven workouts, highly motivating, and fun as hell. No two classes are the same, so I never get bored! My goal is getting back in shape, being mindful of old injuries, and having fun with sparring and mitt work. I also love the functional training classes for building cardio and core to help build on your boxing skillset. I have done muay thai and boxing at several different gyms over the years so I appreciate what good instruction and good gym values builds.

Excellent gym. There is not a single wasted moment in class. The trainers know what they’re talking about and seamlessly combine focused bag work, mitt work, conditioning and meaningful stretching that incorporates yoga. I have been pushing myself and haven’t felt any pain (beyond usual muscle soreness) or injury (which happens!) and I really think it’s a testament to the thoughtfully planned workouts. I feel a sense that they are taking care of us. After learning fundamentals from my Dad in childhood, I have trained off and on throughout my life at Title gyms, “UFC” branded gyms, and Muay Thai gyms. Much of these have been glorified cardio kick box classes at capacity where instructors take you through combinations clients aren’t ready for without giving context as to how these apply in a fight. In most of these settings I have felt like just a body filling a slot and there has been zero direction in terms of leveling up. However, at Haven I feel more motivated than ever before. It’s evident the trainers at Haven have years of experience, so they can quickly make adjustments and meet each boxer where they’re at offering adjustments on the fly to make it challenging mentally and physically. Most of all it is refreshing to be in such a welcoming and sincere environment. I look forward to seeing how this community grows and how my boxing technique and fitness improves.

Before stepping into Haven, I had never taken a boxing class before, and I'm often intimidated by trying a new gym or workout class. Luckily, Nina, Gaby, Taylor, Andrea, and the entire staff are SO welcoming and supportive! My partner and I feel like we learn so much each class and that the instructors get to know everyone as an individual. We are hooked and even took our siblings who loved it just as much! Haven Boxing is a small "boutique" boxing studio that packs a big punch. Metaphor intended😁. I have trained at many different types of boxing gyms all over the country and just like restaurants or clubs they often have their own cultures. Haven Boxing is successfully nurturing a culture that is truly democratic. A fun, challenging workout with a positive attitude that welcomes all people at all levels. However they offer a lot more, mainly the "boutique" feel. Case in point Saturday: The gym is packed, music blasting, staff multitasking, energy high and the only place for me to start my workout is in the ring. Through the blissful chaos, I hear Gaby, one of the busy team members yell "Hey John, you see that rope in the ring? You can use that for a slip line". BINGO. Most people reading this will not know what that is, but GABY does and knew that it would enhance my work out by recommending it. Boxing Fam "Tay ( yeah I just gave you a nickname), Nina, Andrea are always engaged and high energy! Maya Angelou said it best "people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel" . Well done Boxing Fam!

Incredible gym!! Just opened up down the street from us and has been everything we ever wanted for a crazy affordable price. Neighborhood rate $99/month for open gym any day and includes 8 classes/month. I haven’t seen anything close to that in Williamsburg. The staff is amazing, friendly and passionate about helping people achieve their goals with years of experience. They have a rotating circuit workout that changes everyday and has so many fun dynamic exercises with battle rope, sled pushes, boxing bag, medicine balls, and the usual weights. I can’t recommend enough, I promise you will love this gym!

I went to my first class at Haven Boxing and absolutely loved it! The gym is women-owned and operated and the atmosphere is incredibly welcoming and inclusive. Gaby and her team are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly (they remembered my name on my first day!). Classes are challenging and fun. A great experience, I'm looking forward to going to class every week.
