I appreciate the structure, discipline and lesson plans they provide. My daughter has gained strength, confidence and built character throughout the last few years. If you want excellent training for adults or children go to bay shore heijoshin dojo. I've been going for 10 years, I'm 76 and I love it. The senseis are top notch. Members are like family. Great experience.

Great classes and instruction. Instructors are patient and tailor support/instruction to the needs of each student. I trained here for years as a teenager. When I moved away I could no longer train due to the distance. 10 years later when I moved back to the area one of the first things I did was sign back up. Training at the Heijoshin dojo is something you can do for life and at your own pace. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good workout, and a great community.

Review of Heijoshin Dojo – by Kristin Winter
In my life, I was searching for a discipline where I could be challenged both physically and mentally, while also developing a spirit of true kindness. So I began to investigate. What I found in Heijoshin Dojo, located in Bay Shore, encompassed all of that—and so much more.
Sensei Robert and Sensei Paula teach with a special uniqueness. Every member who enters the dojo is treated with the utmost respect and genuine care. Each person is seen, heard, and guided to achieve the best within themselves. They teach with deep intention and observe with the goal to serve.
Both masters are continually learning and growing, and they support you fully on your path toward self-discipline, self-reflection, and self-control. I have never experienced an environment like this one—where I feel like an important member of a community, regardless of where I started my journey.
Heijoshin Dojo is a place of acceptance, growth, and true leadership. It has been an invaluable experience to be part of such a meaningful and inspiring place.

I’ve only been training at Heijoshin Dojo for a short time, but it’s already made a big impression on me. Sensei Rob, Sensei Paula, Sempai Kelly, and all the students (too many awesome people to name) have been super welcoming, respectful, and genuinely supportive. The vibe is positive, professional, and rooted in real martial arts tradition. Really glad I found this place!

The best place to trust your kids if you want them to grow up being mentally and physically healthy, with respect to traditions. I myself go there for the adults program and can’t express how happy I am that I found such a genuine environment. I recommend this place with my heart. This is coming from the experience of a mother of three that went and go to many different activities.

Sensei Robert and Sensei Paula are not only incredibly skilled at their craft but they are also gifted teachers and truly care about the students' physical, emotional and character development. No matter your reason for signing you or your child up for martial arts, they will address it in a personalized way. I have seen an incredible amount of growth in my son who has been attending for two years.

Heijoshin Dojo becomes your extended family. Both my now grown children and myself have experienced “training with like minded” people in an encouraging atmosphere. Always learning new techniques in a supportive environment is the pathway to success.

Being a member of the Heijoshin Dojo has been a wonderful and transforming experience for me. Both Sensei Rob and Sensei Paula are outstanding teachers and consummately professional. They are a wealth of knowledge as it relates to the Ninjitsu form of Karate. From a personal perspective, my time at the dojo has changed me both physically as well as my outlook on certain aspects of life. The Senseis' motto at the Dojo is "Dedicated to you Success". They certainly exude this concept as evidenced in their commitment to teach.
Finally, I am extremely proud of the fact that both myself and my 9 year old grandson are students at the Heijoshin Dojo.

I can’t express enough gratitude for the incredibly positive impact sensei Rob and sensei Paula have had on my life. The physical, mental and spiritual growth I’ve experienced and have observed in other students at the Heijoshin Dojo is extremely profound. They are such selfless teachers and mentors, dedicating so much time and energy to empowering their students. Having known them for more than 20 years, I encourage everyone I know to explore this school at any stage of life. You can recognize one of their students by the way they carry themselves, respect others, and act in support of the communities they’re involved in

My kids´ experience with Heijoshin Dojo has been very positive. Both of my children have been taking lessons for two months. After one month of lessons, I started seeing a significant improvement in their balance, self-control, listening skills, strength, and self-discipline. The structured, respectful, and fun environment fostered by Sensei Rob and Sensei Paula make martial arts lessons a positive experience for children. I love the fact that the classes are small and that there are two instructors in each class, which allows for small group instruction. As a result, new students can learn new techniques quickly and feel good about their won progress. Sensei Rob and Sensei Paula complement each other well as instructors. While he incorporates some humor into the lessons, she gives positive feedback and encouragement to the students. This creates a positive learning atmosphere. Based on my experience in the last two months, I would highly recommend Heijoshin Dojo to those wishing to enroll their children in martial arts classes.

I could’t have anticipated what a transformative experience I was embarking on the day I walked into Heijoshin Dojo. My expectation was to lose a few pounds, get in shape, and learn a little about “karate”. Now 2 1/2 years later I’m in the best shape of my life, 15 pounds lighter and as strong as I've ever been . I have learned how to be thrown and fall with out getting injured. My balance , speed, coordination have improved immensely . I am learning to kick and punch and block a punch, evade and control an attacker - and that doesn’t come close to explaining the personal growth I’ve experienced.
What began as a fitness experiment has turned into studying a martial art, Theres a lot of surprises from martial arts and both Sensei Rob and Sensei Paula continually challenge you both physically and mentally and still make it fun The people I've met there are amazing and so supportive that class actually feels like a team sport. When you are continually challenged and working to improve techniques, form and speed you develop a type of discipline and confidence that carries over to all other parts of your life. This is by far the most unexpected benefit I’ve experienced from Heijoshin Dojo.
I walked past the dojo for decades and am so happy I finally walked in.
Do yourself a favor and don’t wait as long as I did.

This is a more western style of karate and jiu-jitsu. They don't focus on the chi as I am accustomed to. I prefer the easten style from China and Japan. They are more European.

I went here years ago and this place is great!!! Sensei Rob & Paula are really knowledgeable about the practice and take pride in their work. When my contract was up I did not know and they still allowed me to take the last class!! Wonderful people! I really like this place and the home they created they really care for people and want to help them. When you miss some classes they will even call you to make sure everything is good and you will be back soon which is great because it shows they really care and are not just in it for the money. I hope they continue to teach their wonderful practice helping people be their best self!!

I love love love this dojo. My children come to train here. My son is 8, started when he was 5. My daughter is 5 and she started when she was 4. They both love it. The price is fair. My kids can go and train from 2 days per week (requirement) up to 3-4 days (depending on how advanced they are).
Adults also go to classes. I'm not enrolled, but I did take karate many years ago and Heijoshin Dojo beats that place hands down!!
It's family owned and you get the feeling like you are a part of they're family. Everybody is very welcoming and warm.
The skills my children have learned is incredible. Not only do they teach them self defense but they also learn about respect, how to treat other people and how other people should treat them. My son had a bit of a bully. They helped him get through that situation.
They allow you to take a class at no charge to see if you would like to continue. Big plus in my book-I didn't know if my daughter wanted to do the ballet thing or the karate thing, we figured it out without dishing out $!
This is the place to go if you and/or your kids are wanting to have fun and learn alot!

I have been training with Sensei's Rob and Paula for over 20 years. They have a realistic approach to teaching and the diverse student base is a testament to the friendly and cooperative atmosphere at the dojo. Students progress at their own pace and this is definitely NOT a dojo where you simply pay a fee and get rank. Whatever rank you hold at this dojo is earned, for sure. You would be hard pressed to find a team more dedicated to their students success.
