Since i was a kid i climbed here, competed with the climbing team, worked here and really grew up here.
It hasn’t changed much and i was delighted to see they had expanded since i last visited 10years ago.
Routes were marked well and equipment meets or exceeds my standards.
Staff is nice and it was great to see the climbing team coach’s working well with the kids. Brought back tons of great memories and wish i could have stayed longer.

Island Rock is a fantastic venue for a birthday party. We held a birthday party for our 2 children and many of their friends. The staff where incredible! One of the best bouldering gyms on Long Island with great lead/sport climbing routes. There's also top rope but most are for beginner climbers and are very good for younger children. The route setters are pretty talented and the gym gives a lot of variety in difficulty and in wall types for boulder problems, except slab walls. There are maybe 2 small vertical sections for slab, which tracks because no one likes slab and no one can convince me otherwise. Grading wise, I'd say they grade either spot on or a fair bit hard with plenty of V0-V4s, a handful of V5-V8s and 2-3 V9 onwards. They have two caves, a moon board, plenty of fingerboards and a decent gym upstairs with free weights, chest press, cable machine, pulldowns, pull-up/dips, and leg press. They have a continuous wall that's almost the length of the entire gym, so traversal warmups are fantastic here. Also, whoever is in charge of the music in the mornings, I love you.

Downsides:
- some of the arm aids and stretching equipment have been broken for a while
- the gym section seems to be cleaned only by the patrons who put in effort to keep things organized
- been going here for quite some time and I've noticed there's not a lot of slopers at this gym
- no auto belays

Huge, wide variety of climbs let you get in a well-rounded workout. Friendly, knowledgeable employees. I never had to wait to do some climbing during my membership's time here. As a complete climbing newbie, I was still able to have fun and get in some crazy workouts... but there are some technical courses that I'm sure only experts could even think of trying. Seems like any skill level would work here.

Their pricing is phenomenal! I came here and gravity vault nearby recently and ended up coming here for the bouldering. There’s a large selection of routes and very beginner friendly. Only thing is the smell of sweat at the entrance… It wasn’t very pleasant at first. However, that was quickly faded as I started my bouldering session. Since my first day, I purchased their 15 day punch pass and will continue to come. Maybe one day, I’ll get a membership as well. No where near can beat the price of Island Rock. Best value bouldering location!

Place looks small, but there are so many walls to climb. Staff was so patient with our small party of teenagers. We were there on Saturday early afternoon, and by late afternoon, there were a lot more people, but it never felt crowded. Talked to some regulars, and they were very insightful on how easy it is to get experience to belay. Will definitely look into this.

This is my home climbing gym, I’ve been coming here for a year and a half now. The community here is great and the route setting is way better than most other gyms, especially on the top ropes! My only gripe is that they don’t have a proper bar so I can’t do benchpress or squats. If they had that I could quit my other gym membership! A sauna would be nice too 😇

As a beginner in the climbing community I felt very welcomed at this gym. It was my 3rd time climbing when I visited Island Rock, I was greeted at the door and signed a quick waiver. I was taken on a tour of the facility, given some info on the level of holds and how to share the space safely with others. I went for the bouldering and spent 2 hours climbing around and I enjoyed it thoroughly! The routes were super fun, creative and had me intrigued the whole time. Great music choices btw!

We had our daughter’s 7th Birthday party here last weekend. All of the kids had a blast! We had about 5 kids per instructor and they were so encouraging and kind to the kids as they climbed. The staff were also amazing with setting up the party room, having everything ready for pizza/singing happy birthday/having cake. I would highly recommend for birthday parties or the Saturday morning kid climber’s clubs!

Everything was good. I attended a BD party here, but the staff was rude to my kid which I don’t like.( I understand kids walking around made staff frustrated, but it’s not a reason yelling at my kid ) my kid just wanted a piece of bd cake, he walked to a staff, I heard the staff was yelling at him: it’s coming! Go seat!! (Lots of ppl were walking and leaving) I was shocked and I went to talk to manager, the manager attitude was awful as well , he’s like’ I’m not there, I don’t see, and i apologize to you,.” Pulling me off. Great spot to climb but that parking lot needs a repaving badly ! There’s giant potholes and when it rains you can barely see them. Someone’s had to have blown an axel there. Limited parking since it’s in an industrial park but the spot is large and the community is welcoming. Rentals could use a refresh as some of the shoes Velcro’s doesn’t work anymore but yeah nice spot.

We had our daughter’s 11th birthday at Island Rock- it was amazing. The facility was clean and the staff- Ashley and Josh- were professional and warm. Despite having children with varying degrees of skill, they all had an enjoyable time and with minimal downtime. The manager- Ross- was amazing; he consistently checked in to make sure all was well and provided any necessary assistance. Great experience for our first time. Went with kids 12-17yrs old all had a great time and. Being it was our first time we had a staff member hold the rope for us which was cool he gave us some pointers on each wall.

I'm 250+ lbs and had no issue as they lower you down on the ropes. As long as you fit into the harness weight isn't an issue.

Fun gym in the middle of Long Island. It has fun and challenging routes. They have top-rope, lead climbing and bouldering.
Training and cargo area is also available. They have a small ninja warrior course and I believe they have classes for that.
As a first timer I had to take the Top-Rope belay test which was standard and staff was friendly and welcoming.
