About the Club

Karuna Yoga Buffalo has two locations:
The Body Essential location in the Georgetown Square plaza in Williamsville and
The Church Sanctuary/North French Rd. location in Amherst.
One Philosophy:
As a community we work towards balance, strength and flexibility: mentally, physically and emotionally. We self-study with compassion. We practice posture, relaxation, meditation and more, all influenced by the Ancient Himalayan Tradition. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged.

Absolutely love the yoga classes here. Both Jean and Joanna are wonderful and patient teachers. This is a judgement free zone, practicing the more slow and meditative movements from the Hatha Yoga tradition. I feel both stronger in my body and in my spirit since beginning this class. Highly Recommend!

I found Karuna Yoga Buffalo almost 7 years ago and I am so grateful! Jean is a wonderful teacher and gets to know each of her students personally and encourages everyone to go at their own pace. What happens on *your* mat is where your focus should be and don't do anything you are not ready for - if you are patient and do the work it will come with time and practice. That simple encouragement has spilled over to all areas of my life and I have felt that peace and yes, transformation, in so many ways. Jean embodies the spirit of yoga and I am so lucky to know her! Joanna is a great addition to the teaching team, her spirit and teaching philosophy is unique to her but also blends well with Jean's so you are getting the same experience no matter who is teaching class. Classes are suitable for beginners as well as those who have been practicing longer. Makeups are always encouraged. Thank you Jean and Joanna - you are both blessings in my life! Namaste!

I have been attending Jean’s classes since 2016 and it is the highlight of my week. Yoga has truly changed and enhanced my life. It has taught me how to deal with life’s stressors. It has taught me how to be comfortable with being in uncomfortable situations. She gets to know all of her students personally. It’s not just a class to her. It is hard to explain how truly fortunate I am to have discovered Karuna Yoga Buffalo. Jean has created so much more than simply a yoga class; she has crafted a compassionate and progressive community of truly wonderful people. I have been part of Karuna Yoga for numerous years now. When I first decided to try out yoga as a beginner, I was nervous and unsure of my capabilities, but within minutes of my first class, I felt extremely comfortable, completely welcomed, and wholly supported. I absolutely love this class and Jean the instructor! She encourages you to challenge yourself but does not push you beyond your capabilities.. She allows/encourages you to explore your inner strength, giving positive feedback throughout class. She is also very good about makeup classes and shifting from one class to another if needed. Other instructors that I have had in the past have not been so "flexible" when missing a class.

I asked Jean to join her classes while I was going through a very confused period of my life. Especially my mind was going in and out from trains of thoughts.

The first class I took, I noticed right away how my breath was not circular but it was stopping somewhere. And it was very difficult for me to keep mi mind focused. I still remember Jean's voice asking for our breath to be a continuous flow of breathing in and out. Jean's classes are not centered on physical exercise, as many think yoga classes should be, but on the development of healthy habits for mind and body. This is the third row of classes I am taking and I surely notice how the regular practice of yoga and meditation has improved my life, my body and my mind.

Jean is a fantastic instructor, compassionate and caring. I cannot recommend her enough.

I absolutely love Jean's yoga sessions!! She is an amazing instructor whose passion for yoga is clearly evident in the way she conducts her classes. The feeling of peace and serenity and balance that I feel after finishing one of her classes is one of the highlights of my week. I would recommend her class to people new to yoga and to those who have been practicing for years, as Jean goes above and beyond to make sure all of her students are receiving all of the wonderful benefits that yoga provides.
